"The Very Day" If you're wondering if the Connecticut-born Grammyt Award winning keyboardist and composer grew up with music in the house, the answer is yes--his father Joe Porcaro was a renowned jazz drummer who played with everyone from Sinatra to Stan Getz to Madonna. He also played on hundreds of film and television scores including The Wild Bunch, I Dream Of Jeannie and Edward Scissorhands. He also founded the Percussion Institute of Technology and later the drum department at the Los Angeles Music Academy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_College_of_Music). So, yeah music was the lifesblood of the Porcaro household and at very young ages, Steve and his brothers Mike and Jeff went into the family business. How early of an age you might be wondering? Well, at 17 when most of us were finishing our last year of high school and thinking about who and who wouldn't go with us to the prom, Steve was playing with Gary Wright's band on his 1976 Dream Weaver tour. A year later while most of us were fumbling our way through our first year of college, Steve and his brothers were in Boz Scaggs's band. In 1978 Steve and his brother Jeff along with a few other session playing pals formed their own band called Toto. How'd that work out? Well, 50 million albums later, I'd say it worked out very well, thank you. From "Hold The Line" to "Rosanna" to "Africa" Toto had a procession of hits, became one of the biggest bands on the planet and went on to compose the music for David Lynch's Dune. Steve left the fold in 1987 and went on to compose and score for countless film and television projects, including From Dusk Til Dawn 2, Eddie Murphy's Metro and he did all the original music for Justified. This is just a partial list, by the way--he also wrote the song "Human Nature" which Michael Jackson recorded on his Thriller album, the beginning of several compositions he wrote for Jackson to record. Considered one of the pioneers of analog synths, Porcaro's inventive loops appeared on works by everyone from Elton John to Don Henley. When it comes to artists he's collaborated with, here's a list that's going to knock you out: Hall and Oates, Earth Wind and Fire, Sheena Easton, Diana Ross, Warren Zevon, Jefferson Airplane, Yes, and Michael McDonald. Also a partial list. And speaking of Yes, Porcaro was good friends with Yes's Chris Squire and played in his band The Chris Squire Experiment. Porcaro's second solo album The Very Day is one of 2025's real bright spots. Featuring guest appearances by Stan Lynch, Jude Cole, Michael McDonald, Gardner Cole and his Toto pal David Paich, The Very Day is a stirring song cycle of effortless pop melodies, rootsy grooves and insanely catchy hooks. It's pure magic. And this conversation felt the same. Can Trump's Gaza peace plan actually work? Sarah and Beth break down the 20-point proposal and why Netanyahu is finally feeling the heat. They discuss what's changed—from polling on Israel to Ukraine's drone warfare lessons—and whether this administration's transactional approach might accidentally deliver lasting peace. Why are so few panicking about the government shutdown? With funding lapsed and Congress in recess, Beth and Sarah explore the "giant shrug" response from those not directly affected and whether crying wolf has made actual shutdowns feel disminished. They debate Democratic strategy on healthcare protections, discuss the problem with shutdown threats, and propose what a genuine budget process reform could look like. What happened when Pete Hegseth called 800 generals to Quantico? Sarah and Beth dissect the defense secretary's retreat featuring Christian nationalism, complaints about "fat" people in the military, and Trump's "enemy within" rhetoric. They work through the tension of taking legitimate military critiques seriously while resisting the administration's trap of making everything a partisan thunderdome—and why the calm response from cities with National Guard deployments offers a better model. A couple weeks ago my friend Susan Randall came to visit. She's a private investigator and we've been friends for thirty years and every now and then we get together and compare notes on our lives, and on what the hell is going on. Sometimes we talk about her work, sometimes our kids, once we made a show about a dead owl. This has been a very difficult year for Susan. In this conversation, we talk about her health...and the federal government.

In this episode, we expose the lies surrounding journalists in Gaza and how the media twists the truth while covering for Hamas. Meanwhile, Netanyahu faces growing pressure from hostage families and nationwide protests demanding action to bring their loved ones home. At the same time, Trump signals the war may soon be over and prepares plans to end it—raising the question: will Israel emerge stronger, or will the pressure from within and abroad break its resolve? On today's episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're taking a hard look at Taylor Swift's new pornographic-themed album cover, The Life of a Showgirl. From the drinking and partying she parades as normal to her descent into porn culture, Swift has become a dangerous influence on young girls—and really, on everyone. We'll also address the cult-like following surrounding her, and why parents have a biblical responsibility to guard their children from this idolatry and from being exposed to Taylor Swift's sinful pornographic example. Darkness must be exposed, and the Word of God gives us the standard by which to measure it. We will also discuss how disgusting it is to excuse sin by simply labeling it “adult entertainment.” Unfriendly reminder: Civilization is currently collapsing. Let's actually do something about it?--https://www.thebrandsunday.com/
Ever wish you had a script for setting boundaries? Something more than just “I'm done” or “Please stop”? Well, grab your metaphorical megaphone and join Suze and Jenni as they walk (and maybe sprint) through a powerful 7-step process for setting boundaries that's clear, kind, and totally doable. Spoiler alert: It starts with a feeling... and ends with walking out if needed.

On this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're addressing the troubling reality of the Epstein list and Donald Trump's failure to bring it to light, holding it up to the standard of biblical justice. Hold the Line by NoLimits Church - Sunday Messages
I've said for a few days now that Donald Trump's goading of Texas to "find" five new safely GOP congressional seats in a highly unusual mid-decade gerrymander could spark something akin to a civil war. Perhaps not a literal "military" rift between red and blue states, but a fraying of the threads that keep them "united" as a nation. Well, it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks that. Bloomberg's Ronald Brownstein sees what I see, too: blue states matching what Texas does to counter-act their stifling of "we, the people's" ability to elect representation vs letting the representation choose us. Where does that lead us as a nation? It's ominous to consider, and more importantly, it's anti-democratic. Perhaps the silver lining in all of this is that Texas' egregious actions could be what finally convinces enough Americans and House members to pursue making gerrymandering illegal - no matter the state doing it. Texas state representative James Talarico - I think of him as "white Obama" - is a pastor, former teacher and rising star in the Democratic Party. He's everything scumbags like Ted Cruz isn't: courageous, decent and lives his morals and values. He's among the handful of Democrats refusing to give Governor Greg Abbott the legislative quorum required to pass the Trump-ordered gerrymander. Do keep an eye on him if you aren't already. Meanwhile, Donald Trump thinks he has the power to have the Commerce Department "re-do" the 2020 census to remove undocumented people from the count. Never mind the unconstitutional nature of the order (buy when's that stopped him before?) but say he does it: doesn't that also mean Texas loses three U.S. House seats when 2.1 million immigrants aren't counted? Derp. ------Closer to home, Georgia's still fighting the Civil War in a court battle with the Sons of the Confederacy. You see, Stone Mountain Park, just outside Atlanta - the birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan - had long been a magnet glorifying the Confederacy. After civil rights protests in 2020, the state drew down a lot of that, and the SOCVs are throwing a judicial hissy. Here again, a Kemp-led Georgia (a broke clock being right occasionally) steered from pandering to Confederate fetishists, and Trump's recent emboldening of said fetishism has them itching for a fight. ------Lastly - and this is rich - Georgia attorney general Chris Carr is howling like a scalded dog because his 2026 GOP gubernatorial combatant (Burt Jones) has the benefit of a state law giving him cover to fundraise using a "leadership committee" only state legislators or governors or lieutenant governors can use prior to winning party primaries. Here's the funny part: AG Carr has been defending the law that created that unfair advantage in court since it became law. Also, a Republican whining about there being "too much money" in campaigns when his party's done everything they could to let as much big money sicken the process for decades.

The foundations of our democracy are being torn apart and organizations like the ACLU are showing up every day to hold us together. As their president Deborah Archer says, this might be the work the ACLU was built for but we know they can't be left to fight alone. We have been divided on purpose, but the time has come to come together. We can't just have justice by geography, or gender, or sexual orientation. We, the people means everyone. Everyone deserves due process and civil rights. Everyone should have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and it's up to everyone to bridge the gap between the America that was promised and the America that is. In this re-release of my conversation with Amy Waninger, we're revisiting a topic that's even more urgent today than when we first recorded it: the vital role middle managers play in building inclusive, psychologically safe workplaces—and the real cost when they're left out of the conversation. The Reality Behind the RhetoricIt's easy to talk about inclusion at the top. Executive teams set strategic priorities, launch statements, and announce new initiatives. But the real test of whether those values translate into everyday action? That falls to middle managers. They're the ones leading the one-on-ones, navigating interpersonal tensions, and trying to keep teams engaged—all while fielding pressure from above and burnout from within. And when they aren't equipped or supported to lead inclusively, the gap between what's said and what's done starts to widen. The Disconnect We're Not Talking AboutAs Amy and I discussed, the DEI goals that sound good in the boardroom often miss the mark on the ground. Middle managers are expected to deliver results, keep their teams motivated, and somehow embody organizational values—without a clear roadmap or the breathing room to figure it out. No wonder so many feel overwhelmed, unclear, or caught in the middle. And now, with formal DEI programs under scrutiny or disappearing entirely, many organizations are quietly shifting the burden of inclusion to people who are already stretched thin. That's not a strategy. It's a setup.Empowerment ≠ Expectations Without SupportIf we want DEI—or more broadly, inclusion, safety, and belonging—to take root, we have to stop treating middle managers like afterthoughts. Instead, we need to empower them with:* Practical, action-focused training that helps them build inclusive habits into how they lead—not just what they know.* Clear expectations and aligned incentives so inclusion isn't treated as "extra" work.* Ongoing coaching and peer learning to normalize the messiness of leading people through real-life challenges.* Resources and tools that take the guesswork out of hard conversations.* Recognition that reinforces that people leadership is culture work—and it matters. This isn't about turning middle managers into DEI experts. It's about helping them become the kind of leaders people trust. That's what psychological safety looks like in practice. What This Means for the Work AheadThe middle manager burnout I've been speaking about lately? It's tied directly to this gap. We keep asking managers to do more without giving them the conditions to do it well. If we want accountability, we need alignment. If we want impact, we need investment. And if we want culture change, we need to start with the people holding the line.Amy's insights remain incredibly relevant—and if anything, the stakes have gotten higher. Let's not keep putting the weight of inclusion on the shoulders of people we aren't willing to support.✨ Want to dig deeper into this conversation and learn how to support your middle managers?
