The Long Island native had an interesting hockey career that started on the ice rinks of Long Island & concluded on the Sport Court of the Nassau Coliseum. In between Phil played in one of the toughest era's in hockey history, the IHL & AHL of the mid-80's. Later he went overseas to Italy & capped that period off by playing for Team Italy in the Lillehammer Olympics. The third chapter of his career was back home on the east coast playing & coaching in the RHI. We cover it all right here. There have been many tough dudes who've donned the crest of the New West Bruins yet none put up a single-season PIM total higher than Steve Jaques. The former Kings draft pick became an IHL mainstayin the 90's providing a physical presence on the blueline for multiple teams, including the Salt Lake Golden Eagles who in 1993-94 were the primary minor league affiliate for the New York Islanders This is part two. Hayward is ranked 2nd all-time in IHL history in PIMs with 2,712 in 512 games. He trails only Kevin Evans in that department. After a stellar high school career in hockey-mad Minnesota, "Turbo" went to the University of Alaska Anchorage and later turned pro. Dean spent part of his first pro season in Troy, NY playing for the Capital District Islanders where he amassed 65 PIMs in 22 games. His professional travels would take him to such places as Salt Lake City, Richmond, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee and back to Anchorage. Trboyevich left a lasting impression wherever he played, there's no doubt about that. Olson spent parts of two seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers & attended Islanders training camp in 2011. Protecting people is in his blood as he followed his brother Glenn into the world of hockey & post hockey, Benn is a firefighter in British Columbia. While not the biggest guy on the ice, he always played like a giant. If you've never seen him play, think of a style similar to Kevin "Killer" Kaminski. Joey worked his way up through the Long Island hockey scene to one one of the biggest college programs in the country to playing pro with several teams including the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Joey did something most Long Island kids could only dream of, signing a contract with the New York Islanders & seeing his last name on a Islanders jersey hanging in the locker room. Thanks for tuning in everybody! Today I welcome Ken "Bam Bam" Belanger to the Penalty Box. Kenny played parts of three seasons with the Islanders organization & battled all the big boys. In 71 games he scored 8 points and accumulated 260 PIMs. Overall, the former AHL All-Star is a veteran of 248 NHL games, totaled 695 NHL PIMs and he doled out a boatload a beatdowns. Ken has also done very well for himself post-hockey which you'll hear about as well. Later Rod spent several years in the Islanders organization and was a key contributor on the Springfield Indians 1989-90 Calder Cup championship squad.
