When we think about how storytelling shapes our understanding of community, we often turn to historians, musicians, and other public commentators to help us make sense of our shared narrative. However, the role of policymakers and journalists in shaping this understanding is often overlooked. This presentation explores how two key institutions—the Lethbridge Herald and Lethbridge City Council—have shaped public discourse about local homelessness. The speaker will explore how their framing of this issue has influenced the community's ability to respond. Speaker: Yale D. Belanger, Ph.D. Dr. Yale Belanger is Professor of Political Science at the University of Lethbridge, and Member of the Royal Society of Canada, College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists (2017-2024). He has written numerous articles, book chapters, and reports about housing and homelessness.

Send us a textGhost stories unite us when everything else divides us. Jeff Belanger—author, podcaster, storyteller, and paranormal researcher—takes us on a journey from the haunted catacombs of Paris to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, revealing how our fascination with the unexplained transcends political, religious, and cultural boundaries.Belanger shares the moment he transitioned from objective ghost researcher to believer while exploring the Paris catacombs alone. Walking through narrow hallways lined with millions of human remains, he encountered what appeared to be a shadow figure crossing his path—an experience that defied rational explanation after six years of writing about others' ghost encounters. The conversation takes an unexpected turn as Belanger recounts his deeply spiritual experience climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to honor his brother-in-law who passed away from cancer. At 19,341 feet, disconnected from technology and watching the sunrise above the clouds, he experienced a profound connection that transcended death itself—a moment so significant it became his only tattoo. What makes this episode particularly thought-provoking is Belanger's philosophy on why ghost stories matter. "Ghosts exist because we, the living, have unfinished business," he explains. These stories represent our collective struggle to reconcile with history's tragedies, injustices, and unsolved mysteries. By acknowledging these hauntings, we might avoid repeating past mistakes. As digital media increasingly controls what information reaches us, Belanger discusses his return to print with Shadow Zine, a monthly paranormal magazine that can't be algorithmically suppressed or edited after publication. It represents a tangible connection to storytelling that doesn't require batteries, internet access, or corporate approval.Whether you're a dedicated paranormal enthusiast or simply curious about the human connection to the unexplained, this conversation offers a refreshing perspective on why we continue to be fascinated by what lies beyond our understanding. As Belanger suggests, perhaps a ghost story really could save us all.https://jeffbelanger.comhttps://shadowzine.comSupport the showFind us at: gxparanormal.com Watch On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@generationxparanormal Listen: • Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/generation-x-paranormal/id1661845577?i=1000666351352 • Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6zQmLQ0F78h8KRuVylps2v?si=79af02a218444d1f Follow us on Social Media: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GenXParanormal • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/generationxparanormal/ • Twitter (X): https://x.com/GXParanormal

EP 75: The Vanishing of Tammy Belanger: A Dark AnniversaryThis month marks the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of 8-year-old Tammy Belanger from Exeter, New Hampshire. Tammy's story is one that many in Southern New Hampshire know all too well, but the dark truth behind her abduction is still haunting. In this episode, we explore the mystery of what happened to Tammy after she was last seen crossing the street on her usual walk to school on November 13, 1984. Tammy's case is eerily linked to another young girl—Christy Luna, an 8-year-old girl from Greenacres, Florida whose circumstances mirrored Tammy's in disturbing ways. As we dive into the details, I make the case for the main suspect in these crimes, a deviant predator who is believed to be responsible for both disappearances.Through Tammy's story, we learn of the lost hours that passed before anyone realized she was missing, and how this case helped shape new protocols in the way schools respond to student absences. In 1984, when Tammy vanished, there were no calls home for missing children, no immediate alerts or search efforts. It wasn't until hours later, when her mother Pat noticed Tammy was missing, that anyone realized she wasn't at school, and by then, critical hours were lost. This episode uncovers the haunting details of that fateful day and examines how a missing child led to critical changes in child safety protocols.Listener Warning: This episode contains sensitive content and details about child abduction, abuse, and trauma.Updating sources at crimeofthetruestkind.comNew Hampshire Missing Children - NaMUShttps://www.namus.gov/missingpersons/search#/resultsBack in two weeks. 1975 - Washington, Maine. On a chilly November morning, just two days before Thanksgiving in 1975, 25-year-old Ludger Belanger kissed his wife, Linda, goodbye, and ventured into the snowy woods of rural Maine in search of a buck. He never returned. A devoted father of three young children, Ludger wasn't the kind of man to abandon his family—Linda knew that much for certain. As game wardens traced the tracks he left behind, clues emerged, weaving a haunting narrative of what may have happened that morning. The clues also pointed to two men who knew the truth, and told a story much louder than the silence of those who tried to keep it hidden. This holiday season marks 49 years since Ludger's disappearance, yet his family has never stopped searching. This is the story of the disappearance of Ludger Belanger.
