Asif and Ali are back! After their brief hiatus over August, they return with a new episode. They start off by recapping what they did this past summer. Then, they each discuss their favorite entertainment from the summer of 2023 (4:33) (MILD SPOILERS AHEAD). Asif heaps praise on movies such as Oppenheimer, The Flash, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He also discusses TV from this past summer including The Bear, What We Do in the Shadows, Harley Quinn, Fubar and Severance. Then Ali talks about what he caught up on over the summer including Succession, Never Have I Ever, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and The Marvelous Ms Maisel. He also praises the new novel ‘A History of Burning'. In the second half of the show, Ali asks Asif about melatonin (25:11). Asif talks about the hormone, how it was discovered, and the main uses (for which there is scientific evidence). He then talks about the increased use of melatonin over time as well as children being inadvertently exposed to melatonin. He then discusses how many melatonin products contain too little or too much melatonin or contain other substances such as cannabidiol or serotonin. Then Asif briefly discusses other methods to improve sleep without melatonin. The opinions expressed are those of the hosts, and do not reflect those of any other organizations. The Little Mermaid, FUBAR, Shazam, and even The Vanderpump Rules (much to Kevin's chagrin...) are up for grabs with a packed house this week. With a larger than usual cast of characters on the episode, the content gets... eclectic. On top of that we have a special addition this week, Jen's daughter Sydney. She joined to be a second voice to review The Little Mermaid, but she turned out to be an even better expert on Five Nights at Freddy's! The episode of course kicks off with The Little Mermaid before devolving into a tangent on movies releasing this coming month before returning to the next scheduled topic, FUBAR. Some comparisons are made to Citadel, but there is a lot of love for Arnold's first series. The conversation then shifts to the much maligned Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Knowing this bunch, you can guess it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. This leads them to another conversation around the much better film, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Finally, Pete sees his opening and jumps into a conversation around Vanderpump Rules with Jen. Is it a good and stimulating conversation? I suppose it is if reality TV is your jam! It's fun to see how that side operates, though. Sydney then steals the spotlight in schooling the crew on the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's film. There's a lot to learn here if you're curious, including information about the original games how this film, produced by Blumhouse, could differ from the games. The show finishes off with a quick discussion over some the recent trailers for films coming out the rest of the year, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Oppenheimer, and more. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! On the 25th anniversary of its release, the two guys who brought you phrases like "brain boners," "milady, you've got the chompers of a basset hound," and "Amy want night tickle" are here to talk 1998's critically acclaimed World War II film, Saving Private Ryan. And who better? Your gnarly boys not only breakdown the technical aspects of Steven Spielberg's direction, but somehow break into a Kantian dialogue pitting Jeremy Benthem's philosophy of Utilitarianism against classical Deontology. I'm serious. Filmshake is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get, and we don't even care if that's the wrong Tom Hanks movie. You also get, very briefly, discussion about our punishment film, 2005's The Great Raid, and of course, as always, an episode-ending trivia battle to the death.Filmshake: We're FUBAR...but in a good way!Music Heard This Episode:"Hymn to the Fallen" -- John Williams"Omaha Beach" -- John Williams"High School Teacher" -- John Williams"Revisiting Normandy" -- John WilliamsSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
Not too many bigger celebrities, especially ones that have struck it big on the big screen, would take the risk on the smaller screen. Not only that, but take the risk on a TV show that happens to fall on the more silly side of the road. That doesn't mean that FUBAR is bad, at all, because silly, especially in this show, is good! Arnold attempted to take a fun swing, and it was definitely not a miss! "Premise. Luke Brunner and his daughter Emma have lied to each other for years, with neither of them knowing that the other is a CIA operative. Once they both learn the truth, they realize that they do not actually know anything about each other." The addition of Gabriel Luna sent this series even more over the top than with only Arnold and his crew. He makes a really good bad guy, to Arnold's good guy! If you like an action comedy, this is definitely a series that you should be taking on! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! A lot of people don't want to volunteer. Who wants to give up a Saturday and not get paid for it? But what if volunteering and being of service to your community could not just improve the world, but also your mental health? Join us as today's guest, Travis Van Winkle, talks about how being of service led him to a profound emotional transformation. To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page. Travis Van Winkle's career has seamlessly transitioned between both television and film for over two decades. He can currently be seen as one of the leads in the Netflix/Skydance action-comedy “FUBAR,” which premiered on May 25, 2023, co-starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. Most recently, he played Cary Conrad on season 3 of Netflix's acclaimed “You.” The hit series, which began streaming season 3 on Friday, October 15, 2021, quickly became the #1 program on the global streamer, taking down “Squid Game.” For his role as “the King of the cul de sac,” the actor received both critical and fan acclaim. Previously, Van Winkle had a starring run on Michael Bay/TNT's high-concept drama “The Last Ship” for five seasons and a series regular role alongside Alan Cumming on the CBS drama “Instinct.” Some of his previous memorable television roles include recurring on CW's “Hart of Dixie” and ABC'S “Happy Endings.” Feature film roles include a lead roles in Paramount's Friday the 13th remake, “Transformers,” “Meet the Spartans,” and Universal's comedy “Accepted” with Justin Long, Jonah Hill, and Blake Lively. Van Winkle has been a proud mentor within the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles youth empowerment organization since 2011 and hosted two of their galas that raised just over $1 million. He is also currently a member of their Junior Board. He serves as a Global Ambassador to the nonprofit organization buildOn. Through his work with buildOn, he has engaged and inspired his creative network to help raise over $470,000 and has led on-the-ground teams to build eight schools: three in Malawi, two in Senegal, and one in Haiti, Nepal, and Nicaragua. Travis Van Winkle was born in Victorville, California; his parents' Air Force responsibilities would bring him to both Michigan and Georgia before he eventually made his way to Hollywood at the age of 20. Our host, Gabe Howard is an award-winning writer and speaker who lives with bipolar disorder. The Ultimate Home built Show stopper!! FUBAR if you don't know what that stands for Google it. But that's the story and the name behind Lyndon Creamers 1964 bug. He's owned this bug twice in the first time it was featured in Volksworld was around 2003 he sold. tichanged hands several times. It was wreckled and changed up from when he owned it. He later and re-purchased the car back in 2013. He decided to put it back in the show circuit but this time No holds barred. It was going to be an all out assult on the show circuit. He infact made quite the splash when it re-surfaced. Debuting it at Volks World show and requesting a indoor spot based on a single picture. Lyndon did it. In this episode, Nick and TV critic Dan Fienberg, from The Hollywood Reporter & The Fien Print, talk about the 2023 Tony Awards telecast (which was the first awards show to be conducted without writers), the series finales of HBO's "Succession" and "Barry," and the new controversial HBO show "The Idol." Mr. Fienberg also reviews a new documentary about Dan Rather, and the wacky action-comedy with Arnold Schwarzenegger, "FUBAR." Then, Esmeralda Leon and Nick fulfill another Magic Megaphone message from a teacher on the day of her retirement, they listen to a voicemail from a subscriber with an interesting request, and talk about the early careers of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the casts of "Reno 911" & "The State." Oh, and these things happen while Nick bleeds all over the place because he cut himself shaving before the recording of this episode. And, of course, Nick's Dad Tells a Joke....while Nick bleeds.
