Mitch Bach is back with an all-new episode of Blades Uncut, presented by Original 16, diving deep into Saskatoon's scorching hot start to the regular season. This is the first Uncut recording in two weeks — before the 24-game schedule began — so there is clearly a lot to look back on. Mitch's regular co-host, voice of the Blades Les Lazaruk, is bunking in Regina calling play-by-play for the team on 98 Cool FM, so Mitch was the lone host inside the recording booth. But not to be of disappointment to Blade City, Mitch rings up Les to get his two cents on the team's 6-0-1-0 start. After touching on a few topics, including a recap of last episodes trivia question, the guys welcome newcomer Blake Stevenson onto the pod. Stevenson is a new face in the Blades lockerroom, having spent his entire WHL career with the Tri-City Americans before a trade landed him in the Paris of the Prairies. The 2001-born forward is enjoying a tremendous start to the season, scoring four goals and four assists in seven games — sitting second in team scoring behind only Kyle Crnkovic. The guys chat with Stevenson about the chemistry the team has early on, how he's enjoying the change in scenery from south of the border, and what he's been up to in his downtime. After their chat with Stevenson, Mitch and Les present a new trivia question for listeners and preview Friday afternoon's contest against the Regina Pats.

Terry Ryan is someone you want to be around. He makes you smile. He makes you laugh. And he makes you feel good. I always enjoy my conversations with TR and I know you will enjoy this one. Terry was a child prodigy when it came to hockey. He grew early, he understood the game, he could finish, and at 14 years old – he also found out he could fight. Being a child star comes with a lot of pressures. Some just and some unjust, but you have to learn to navigate them either way and Terry discusses how he learned to manage and the steps his family took to provide the best opportunity for him. Ryan went on to a WHL career that included a 50 goal season as a 17 year-old with the Tri-City Americans, which earned him an 8th overall selection to the Montreal Canadians in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Along with a big signing bonus came big expectations and Terry was ready to tackle the NHL, but a change in management with the Canadians came with new bosses who didn’t see him in quite the same lens. Terry ran into problems with his coach, Michel Therrien, in the AHL and he couldn’t find his way out of the doghouse. Terry ended up losing his identity as a goal scorer and began fighting more than his 50 goal hands should have been. We reflect on Terry’s career. Some things he is proud of and some things he would have changed. But his journey has brought him to where he is today and he is proud of the man and the father he has become. That’s hockey, and that’s life. Keep learning and keep growing. Thank you Terry for sharing your story. Enjoy the conversation. If you want to reach out to Terry and get a personalized edition of his second book “Fights, Film, & Folklore” reach out on Instagram @terryryan2020

Dylan Ferguson and Eli Wilson, who Ferguson has worked with in the summers for many years, join us from camp in Edmonton where they are training together to talk development and the road to the National Hockey League. Whether you are a young goaltender looking to take your next steps or a parent looking to support your son or daughter, there is a lot to take in from this nearly hour-long discussion. Ferguson, the Vegas Golden Knights Prospect, got the call of a lifetime while still playing in the WHL for the Kamloops Blazers - he was needed in New York where the Golden Knights were to take on the Rangers. That call up led to his NHL debut vs. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers before he returned to finish his season in junior hockey. He talks to us about his road to pro, from Tier 3 Bantam to the best league in the world. Wilson has coached at all levels, including the NHL and has developed countless goaltenders for the top leagues in the world. This includes work with Carey Price in the summers, much of it documented at InGoal. Wilson is also the goaltending coach for the Tri City Americans of the WHL.
Guests tonight: Bob Tory, Governor and General Manger, Tri-City Americans, Western Hockey League. Patrick Cassidy, Gold Sports and Entertainment Group and Owner, Edmonton Prospects.
In this episode I chat with one of the biggest names in goaltending over the last decade, Eli Wilson. Today we chatted about how Canadian goaltenders stack up on the global stage. Our featured guest is Broncos alum Brett Lernout, who currently plays for the AHL's Chicago Wolves. He has appeared in 21 NHL games to date, all with the Montreal Canadiens.
The recent string of NHL coaching firings and hirings are prime examples that a career in coaching isn’t for the faint of heart. There are many that make life changing sacrifices in the long pursuit of a job in the NHL, which as we’ve seen, can offer little to no security. For Victoria Royals head coach Dan Price, the gamble is worth the risk for the game he loves. Equipped with a law degree and steady job at a Calgary firm, Price decided to enter the uncertain world of coaching. His first job would come in 2006 as an assistant with the WHL’s Chilliwack Bruins (now the Victoria Royals) for three seasons. After a three-year stint as head coach and general manager of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Drumheller Dragons, he would make the jump back to the WHL with the Tri-City Americans for two seasons as an assistant. Price would return to the Royals organization in 2016, taking over the reigns as head coach from Dave Lowry in 2017. Now in his fourth season with Victoria, Price has led the Royals to a winning record each season and has drawn praise for his ability to communicate with his players. Find out what it was like to give up a career in law, his teaching philosophy, and how he’s preparing himself for the next stage of his career in this week’s edition of the Glass and Out Podcast!
