We often read the story of Esther as a beautiful tale of courage, but this week we discovered something deeper and more challenging. Esther's story begins in a dark place—with compromise, fear, and a world that looks eerily similar to our own.Mordecai and Esther were living in a culture hostile to their faith. They faced a choice we all face today: assimilate and blend in, retreat and hide, or stand tall for Christ no matter the cost. Compromise over-promises and under-delivers. It whispers that we can have all the glory without the suffering, but Jesus showed us a different way.The truth is, following Christ is getting harder. But just as God wasn't finished with Esther at the beginning of her story, He's not finished with us either. He uses imperfect people for His perfect plans. Ever wonder what holiness really means? It's not just a churchy word, it's God's call to be set apart, to pursue Him with everything we have. This week we wrapped up our series in Haggai with a powerful reminder: holiness isn't caught by just showing up. It must be pursued. The Israelites learned that building God's temple didn't automatically make them holy, God's grace did. And here's the beautiful truth: through Jesus Christ, God offers us His holiness. We don't earn it; we receive it. God told Zerubbabel he'd be like a "signet ring" — a seal of authenticity. And guess what? Zerubbabel appears in the genealogy of Jesus. God never forgot His promise then, and He hasn't forgotten His promises to you now. When we put God first, obey with the right heart, and pursue holiness, there's blessing in the here and now—and in eternity. What does true obedience really look like? This powerful message from the book of Haggai reveals a mathematical truth we often overlook: obedience equals right actions plus right attitude. We can be doing all the right things externally while our hearts remain far from God, just like the Pharisees Jesus confronted. God is not anxious, not surprised, not losing control. He reigns from His throne, steady and sure.The scoreboard may look tilted for now, but God's justice is real and it's coming.
