Any purpose or end goal of education requires one to have an understanding of what it means to be human. Etymologically, the word “curriculum” means to run a course. The Apostle Paul says in his second letter to Timothy that he had “run the race” in fulfilling what Jesus created and called him to do. Jesus Himself tells us that He is the way, the truth and the life, the only way to the Father. We are created in God's image, for His purpose and glory, to walk in the works He has prepared for us before the world began. Our guest this week and next on the Profile is Dr. Louis Markos, an advocate for classical Christian education. He discusses his new book Passing the Torch – An Apology for Classical Christian Education. Markos shares his insights as to how a deeper understanding of the culture and literature of the Greco-Roman world enhances and complements a virtuous Christian education. Dr. Louis Markos is an authority on C. S. Lewis, apologetics, and ancient Greece and Rome. He lectures widely for classical Christian and classical charter schools and conferences. The author of twenty-six books, Markos currently serves as the Robert H. Ray Chair of Humanities at Houston Christian University in Houston, Texas. Today's meditation is Psalm 8. This Psalm reminds us to look up. To stand for a few minutes in awe of the skies and nature. To realize the Creator of it all, made us to rule with Him! He entrusted us with this world. It should make us stop and wonder – who are we that the God of the universe would care, would bother with us! Dear Father, forgive us for not paying attention; for not noticing the intricacies and details of life around us. Give us wisdom to know we need You to teach us how to care for creation, how to care for each other – how to care about what You care about…Daylight Meditations is a daily podcast from CFO North America. We live in a world that tells us everything is about you — your goals, your success, your platform. But what if that's exactly why so many of us feel anxious, restless, and burned out? In this message, Pastor Mark Clark unpacks Psalm 8 and shows how shifting your focus from yourself to God's greatness can bring real peace and purpose. When you realize that life isn't about control, but about awe — it changes everything. If you've ever felt small, unseen, or overwhelmed, this Psalm reminds you: you were made for something bigger.

Psalm 8:1 reminds us of the unmatched splendor and authority of God. His name echoes through every corner of creation, in the skies, the mountains, and the hearts of those who worship Him. It's a call to pause, reflect, and stand in awe of the One whose majesty cannot be measured. Truly, the earth declares His greatness.
Discover the meaning behind calling God the Maker of heaven and earth. This message shows how seeing Him as Creator shapes the way we understand the world, our purpose, and our place in it. Through Psalm 8, we're reminded that creation declares His power and beauty, humbles us, and reveals our worth as His image-bearers. Even in our brokenness, Jesus, the perfect image of God, is restoring us and giving hope and dignity to our everyday lives.
In this powerful message from The Avenue Community Church, we're invited to see the heart of God in a whole new light—His majesty revealed through meekness. Drawing from Psalm 8, this sermon walks through the awe and wonder of creation, the smallness of humanity, and the breathtaking reality that God wages war through weakness. From David's psalm of praise to Jesus' humble triumph on a donkey, and finally to Paul's reminder that God chooses the lowly to shame the strong—this episode weaves together a story of grace, strength, and divine reversal. Discover how worship doesn't make God greater—it makes our hearts bigger. Learn what it means to see “majesty through meekness” in your own life, to trust God in the highs and lows, and to find peace in knowing that the One who hung the stars also hung on a cross—for you.

DATE: 09/14/25 SPEAKER: Rev. David Zavadil TEXT: Psalm 8 https://www.evergreentn.com/
In this sermon, Pastor Christopher shares with us from Psalm 8. He breaks down the four types of parallelism, and how it is a Psalm of praise, or a Creation praise. He talks about our position, God's care and skill in Creation, and man's wonderings. Finally, Christopher talks about our responsibility over creation while still being under the authority of God. What does it mean for us to rule? What is the first blessing we have? Listen to learn more!LAKEVIEW MISSIONARY CHURCH810 S. When teaching on Psalm 8, Spurgeon tells us; “The first and last verses are a sweet song of admiration, in which the excellence of the name of God is extolled. The intermediate verses are made up of holy wonder at the Lord's greatness in creation, and at his condescension towards man.”In Matthew 21, Jesus quotes this psalm to the Pharisees, declaring to them once again His identity as God;...when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise]?” When we take time to read these words slowly and consider the depths of their meaning, we are left in awe of the grandeur of God, His work among us, and His attention towards us. How majestic indeed is our Lord's character magnified throughout all the earth!Prepare for this week's teaching by reading Psalm 8.
Human beings have dignity and significance because they are created and redeemed by the majestic God of the Universe.
