In this sermon from Genesis 3, we explore God's beautiful design for creation and marriage and how Adam and Eve chose desire over God's plan. From the deception of the serpent to the shame and separation caused by sin, we see the devastating effects of disobedience. Yet, we are also reminded of God's mercy, His covering grace, and the hope we have in Christ.

In this passage of scripture we learn that God put man in dominion and Satan's desire to turn man from God. When man failed and as he continues to fail the consequences imposed by God were and still can be very severe.

Genesis 3:20-24 Given that the man (particularly) is guilty of treason against the LORD Most High (to whom he owes his entire life & being), how is it that the full weight of God's wrath & justice does not immediately fall upon Adam? Today's message explores the doctrines of "original sin" and "Christ's propitiatory life & death".
Last week, we celebrated THE LAST MEAL WE'LL EVER NEED -- Jesus, the Bread of Life. This week we go back to the beginning, to THE FIRST BITE that changed everything. In Genesis 3, a simple act of eating becomes a doorway to sin, shame, and separation from God. But even in humanity's fall, God's grace was already at work. Join us as we explore the story of the first meal -- and the Savior who came to make things right.Recorded live at Word of Life Church in Le Sueur, Minnesota, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Pastor Nick Olson preaching.

Genesis 3:16-19 After cursing the serpent and promising Satan's ultimate demise, the LORD God pronounces consequences upon the woman, and then upon the man, for their sin — but note, the "image of God" is not cursed. They will still have the capacity to reflect God's image, though imperfectly -- something like a broken mirror.

What makes temptation so compelling? In this episode of Thinking Christian's Prepped Series, Dr. James Spencer takes us deep into one of Scripture's most foundational passages—the fall narrative in Genesis 3:1-7. Far from a simple story of disobedience, James reveals the sophisticated dynamics at play: the serpent's calculated ambiguity, the woman's thoughtful but tragic reasoning, and the recurring biblical pattern of "seeing good and taking." Exploring the Hebrew nuances often lost in translation, he shows how the serpent systematically undermines God's sovereignty, wisdom, and benevolence—turning paradise into perceived prison. But James doesn't stop with ancient history. He challenges listeners to recognize these same patterns of doubt and self-determination in their own lives, while pointing to Christ as the one who reverses the tragic cycle of seeing, declaring, and taking through trusting, obeying, and giving. The sermon for this Sunday is titled "Creaturely Life and the Fall". In this sermon, we will uncover the meaning of what it means to be a creature and what our relationship to brokenness and sin is. By looking at Genesis 3, we will find that though humanity was made for relationship, we have experienced fracture and disconnection in our relationship with God, one another, ourselves, and creation. It is only until we see that part of our role on earth is to seek repair, reconciliation, and restoration of our broken relationships, we will continue a relational cycle of fragmentation, harm, and rupture.
In this podcast, I begin a series where I deeply explore key lessons and themes from Genesis Chapter 3. Listen and be blessed. Shalom! Audio Download
