A podcast about free- and critical-thinking. We fuse topics such as entertainment, culture, politics, and current events together with valued and principled discussion. And we have fun doing it.
In this episode we talked about doing the right thing. We explored the question: Why don't people do the right thing? Doing the right thing is often hard, and therefore, it's easier to do the wrong thing, even if such an action goes against our best interest. We also talked about stupid news, because it's 2021 and the world is filled with stupid news.
In this episode we talked about the prosecutorial insanity that is the Rittenhouse trial. We also had fun talking about The Balloon Worldcup, Fluid Bonding, and toxic masculinity contributing to global warming.
t is good that our culture is always changing, but should everything change just because? This episodes explores the topic of wives taking their husbands' last name. Should wives do so? Should husbands take their wives' last name instead? While taking (or not taking) a last name may seem trivial to some, it speaks to the heart of our society and culture.
We are finally back together after a couple of weeks. We decided that it would be a good time to go over various news items we collected and spend some time giving our takes on current events. Enjoy!
A quick episode to review the newly released Dune film.
The show is back for some more fun. This episode is about Superman being bi-sexual and Jon Gruden being canceled from the Las Vegas Raiders.
This week I flew solo and I talked about teaching people to be resilient. We cannot modify the world to be "safe" for all people in all situations. It is better to teach people how to adapt to the world around them so they can be strong to face the world as it comes at them. I looked at a story from The Oberlin Review and the aftereffects of "Squid Game" and what people need to learn from these instances.
In this episode we talked about crazy news articles. It always amazes us how insane the real world can be. We are thankful for that insanity because its always worth a good laugh. We need to laugh more as a society. We also talked about thinking fallacies. It is very easy for us to get stuck in thinking traps that allow us, and often guide us, to make illogical conclusions about topics. We talked about some of these traps in the hope that it makes people better thinkers.
Last week I was in Seattle, a town I used to love. The town is now a disaster, and has really fallen into chaos since the last time I was there in 2019. In this episode we talked about Seattle and it's covid infatuation. We also talked about minimalism. A lot of people have asked me about minimalism so here we are. However, the conversation is made very interesting given Jason is a hoarder.
Ideological bumper stickers enrage Jason. This week we dive into such bumper stickers and deconstruct their meaning and intent. Of course, this isn't the only thing we talked about. We also talked about the recent Biden Mandate for vaccines and what the likely outcome of such a mandate might be for the Biden administration.
You may have heard that Texas passed a law banning abortions after 6 weeks. Well, that law has sparked a nationwide controversy with people lining up on both sides of the debate to lob volleys at each other. We donned our armor and decided to jump head first into the debate. Yep, two dudes talking about abortion. Buckle up because it's about to be a bumpy ride.
Well, we finished "For Men Only." To say we understood it would be incorrect. To say we were enlightened by it's stunning exploration of the female psyche is absolutely correct. In this episode we discussed how women approach sex in relationships. Man, was that a doozy. We also shared our thoughts on the recent debacle known as America's defeat to the Taliban. I promise, the vast majority of our time and energy was spent on the former rather than the latter.
In this episode we continued our journey into the mind of women. Remember, we're just two dudes giving our thoughts about something by which we've always been boggled. We discussed how women often appear (to men) to be acting crazy. What we learned is that there is often a very logical reason why women act the way they do. Their actions are driven by emotions and thoughts they carry with them. As men, we can learn to recognize these signs and show our wives / significant others that we love and adore them.
In this episode we started talking about "For Men Only" by Shaunti Feldhahn. This book pulls back the veil on how women think, feel, and behave in relationships. As men, we experienced numerous eye-opening revelations reading this book. We talked about some of these revelations and what those revelations meant to us as men.
In this episode we finished our discussion on "For Women Only." We cover the really big topics: sex and romance. We also talked about why the appearance of our wives/girlfriends are important to us as men; and no, it's not what you think.
Ladies, have you argued with your husband and wondered why he withdraws and wants to get away from you? Turns out that is normal man behavior. Not because we're immature, but because it's the way we are wired. We need time to think, and we need to dissipate our frustrations.
In this episode we started talking about Shaunti Feldhahn's book "For Women Only." Ladies, if you ever wanted to know how men think and feel in relationships, then this book is for you. We give an honest men's view of this book (or at least the first couple of chapters). We will discuss additional chapters next week.
What is domestic terrorism? How is it legally defined? Are domestic terrorists in the United States? If so, who are they? In this episode we tackle this issue.
Buckle in, sit back, and relax--it's going to be a bumpy ride. This episode features the one and only Jason Morrett.
Happy 4th of July everyone! Flying solo on this one, hopefully it isn't too terrible. In this episode I recap Zuby's 20 things he learned about people from Covid. This isn't an episode about covid, but rather, an episode about how fragile liberty truly is.
We are back! After a month off we are back in full swing. In this return episode we kept it fun and talked about woke creators in pop culture. The upcoming Star Wars show "The Acolyte" has a writer who has never seen Star Wars (what could go wrong). We talked about the X-Men and the proper use of social metaphors. We also talked about the Fantastic Four and how a new storyline is built on woke gender politics. Note: The wine is called 7 Moons.
Many people don't really understand what is meant by "left-wing politics." In this episode we talk about what it means to be an adherent to left-wing politics. Left-wing politics is an ideology that feels good, but results in causing far more harm than good. We break down why it's harmful and why people feel obligated to accept left-wing thinking.
We always talk about the importance of having, and following, a framework of principles. In this episode we talk about how your principles should form your views on political issues. If you allow emotions to govern your policy standpoints, then you will fall for anything and you will struggle to stand for anything.
We've been piling up all sorts of oddities in the media over the last several weeks. Things we've wanted to share and laugh about with all of you. So in this episode we decided to talk about how dumb the media often is.
The world is a crazy and often scary place. To overcome the many challenges and perils of life, you need to focus your attention at the task at hand. How do you focus and live a moral life at the same time? To do so you must live intentionally. We talk about this concept and why it's important. We also talk about why this same concept is important for raising children. If you do not prepare your children to live intentionally within the world, then you are setting them up for failure.
We did something completely different for this episode. We invited some men onto the show to talk about masculinity in today's world. Each of these men are fathers who are just trying to do what's best for their families and raise children in a society that increasingly finds fault with masculinity.
In this episode we talked about nerd stuff. More specifically, games and gaming. No, not gambling. The social act of playing games (board games, video games, etc.). Playing games is not just something kids do, adults play games as well. We make a case for gaming by looking at the value playing games does for society.
Every one of us has the ability to see people as something other than 'human.' Sometimes this can help us perform a necessary job, like work in an ER. However, this ability can also have very drastic and evil outcomes, such as murdering people for the perceived societal benefits. We talked about humans' ability to compartmentalize the humanity of others and what that can mean for society.
This is a big milestone for us. We've hit 50 episodes! Wow! In this episode we continued our discussion about how men can start acting like men (and stop acting like boys trapped in a man's body). We also included some stupid news to keep you entertained.
In this episode we tackle how men can start acting like real men. We quickly realized this is a larger topic, and given we had a lot of things to touch on, this is only part 1 of this topic. We also talked about some stupid news.
No, we don't believe Jesus was a racist. Some people do believe he was a racist, and those people point to a specific passage in the Bible that they use as evidence. We talked about that passage and what it really means. We also talk about how Christianity is often used in the culture wars, by people who don't believe in Christianity, to get Christians to acquiesce. We also poke fun at a lot of stupid news. Sadly, the stupid news is real.
Our culture has been overrun with cancel culture. Wokeism is censoring speech woke ideology deems offensive. How should you respond when someone makes a, seemingly, rational claim about canceling something? Should you accept it because the request seems benign? Or should you reject the claim and tell the woke to "stop it?" We recommend the latter. In this episode we talk about how to respond to the woke mob, and why it is important to stop the madness.
We change gears with this episode and discuss something near and dear to our hears--Freemasonry. We've received a lot of inquiries asking what Freemasonry is. So this episode we talk about Freemasonry, why we think Freemasonry is needed, and why we chose to become Masons.
Our society continues to embrace narcissism. Many people throw caution to the wind and live for the moment--intent on maximizing everything they want to the detriment to themselves and their loved ones. We discussed how practicing temperance can change society one person at a time. After all, a self-disciplined society has little need for laws and regulations.
We inch closer and closer to that 50th episode! This is a slightly longer episode than normal, brought on because we talked about something that is near and dear to our hearts. The focus of this episode is leadership--more specifically, leadership at the highest levels. Too many people in upper management tend to lose focus between the difference of management and leadership. This isn't always the fault of the manager, it can often be the result of the organization and the culture within that organization. Often, managers simply don't know what they should know. In this discussion we talked about the Masonic fraternity--an organization that prides itself on building community leaders. Have we, as Masons, become managers in our attempt to manage our fraternity to new growth? Have we failed to actually lead? You don't have to be a Mason to follow along and appreciate the discussion on leadership.
Villains are an important part of the equation for becoming our best authentic selves. Sadly, pop culture has been watering down the veracity of villains to our detriment. We talked about villains and why they're important. We also wrestled with the idea of the Internet and why it's bad (and good) for society. Come listen and tell us how we're wrong.
In this episode of the Fusion Underground we talk about friends. We reminisce about our own friends, why we pick certain friends, and why it's important to not have everything in common with your friends.
This episode got off to a rocky start. The first quarter of the show we ran into Internet issues. We made some adjustments, while we were recording (!) and overcame our technical issue. Once we were back on track we talked about the danger of ideologies. We also talked about the virtue of humility and how being humble is a (the?) core component of self-improvement.
Wow! Our 40th episode. Time flies when you're having fun. We had a lot of fun in this episode. We talked about the two things you're never supposed to talk about: Politics and religion. In this episode of the Fusion Underground podcast we talked about the Trump rally on the National Mall that ended when a group of idiots forced their way into the capitol building. We wrestled with the questions: Why can one side riot and commit acts of violence but the other side cannot? Why can one side call for establishing socialism, but the other side cannot call for the return to Constitutional principles? We also talked about religion. More specifically, the purpose of religion throughout human history. Did you know the vast majority of armed conflict was not caused by religious differences? Probably not. Come listen, think, and laugh.
Freedom takes many forms. Freedom can mean physically free from bonds. Freedom can also mean the freedom to think. In this episode we start a discussion about freedom and how small freedoms impact larger societal freedoms. We also talked about some ridiculous news items. 2021 is certainly starting off with a bang and lots of lulz.
In this episode we discussed the importance of "Man Psychology," that is, a mature masculinity. Far too many people equate "Boy Psychology" with being a man. It's true that most adult males exhibit Boy Psychology. This leads to societal complaints of masculinity being "toxic." What the world needs is more masculinity, not less, but that masculinity must be in the form of Man Psychology. We talked about this concept and what Man Psychology looks like when manifest in the world.
We kick off this episode with a look at some dumb news (yes, it's all real news). We also talked a bit bout Cyberpunk 2077, because, well, it's Cyberpunk! We then talked about Epictetus and his Enchiridion. Epictetus was a stoic philosopher and we talked about some of his writing and how stoicism can be used in today's hectic world.
On this episode of the Fusion Underground podcast we talked about leaders and the importance for lifelong learning for leaders. If you're not learning, then you remain stagnant in ideas that may be leading you down a wrong path. We also just had a lot of fun recording the episode! We hope you enjoy it.
This is our 35th episode! While that is still a 'baby number' when compared to other podcasts, it's an indicator that we're keeping at this podcasting thing because we're just having too much fun doing it. In this episode we talk about the cultural response to Vanderbilt's new kicker and Elliot Page. We also talked about that old question, "Are you happy?" What does that question mean? Is happiness the right thing to pursue, or should we focus on something else.
Happy post-Thanksgiving! In this episode we analyzed a new covid study, talked about leftists trying to cancel careers of people guilty of wrongthink, and we talked about society's fall from grace. What happens when we abandon religious (read: mythological) thinking? We create a void in our lives and then we try to fill it with ideologies and external validation. We're also amazed that this is our 34th episode...
So NOW people want unity. Well what does unity mean for the country? How can unity be achieve? Can we be unified in politics? Should we be unified in politics? We talk about these questions and more in our latest episode.
In this episode we talked about cults. We looked at why cults are bad and we discussed the 'line' where self-help moves into the realm of cult. We also talked about how many women don't know about their own bodies.
In this episode we discussed election fraud and what it could mean for our country going forward. We talked about ideology and why people should be mindful of ideologies.
In this episode of the Fusion Underground podcast we discussed the upcoming election. We give our thoughts on polls and the growing Trump energy that's sweeping the nation. We then discussed adaptation. We explore what adaptation is, why it's important, and how we use values to adapt to chaos in our lives.
Are you spiritual but not religious? That's our main question this week. We debate why taking the stance of "I'm not religious, I'm spiritual" is a path to narcissism. We also congratulated Amy Coney Barrett on her confirmation to the Supreme Court. Plus, as always, we had a lot of fun pretending people actually listen to anything we say.
This week has been insane! I was able to record a quick episode on the road from Salt Lake City. My apologies if the recording isn't all that great as I did it on my phone.
