In the summer of 2000, NASCAR faced one of its darkest periods. Just eight weeks after the loss of Adam Petty, the racing world was shattered again by the death of Kenny Irwin at the exact same track. In this episode of Firestorm: 2000-2001 -- The Years That Forever Changed NASCAR, we look back at the incredible talent, the intense pressure, and the tragic end of a driver who had been destined for greatness. We explore the details of that fateful weekend at the track then known as New Hampshire International Speedway, the eerie similarities to Adam Petty's accident and the devastating impact it had on mentors like Johnny Vance and Bob East. In this emotional “Kim on a Whim,” Kim St. Onge unpacks Candace Owens' explosive new docuseries Bride of Charlie, which targets Erica Kirk, the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Marc and Kim condemn Owens' attacks as cruel and self-serving, contrasting them with the faith-driven resilience of Erica and the movement's continued growth. The segment dives into media obsession, personal grief, and the surge in Christian revival following Charlie's death — while spotlighting reactions from Ben Shapiro, Meghan McCain, and others slamming Owens' “pure evil” campaign. He was the first fourth-generation athlete in professional sports history, carrying the most famous surname in NASCAR. But on a dark day in New Hampshire, the future of the Petty legacy—and the sport itself—was changed forever. In this episode of Firestorm, we look back at the brief but bright career of Adam Petty. Known for his infectious youthful exuberance and that signature Petty smile, Adam carried the weight of a dynasty on his shoulders. We go beyond the highlights to explore his hopeful start and the gritty reality of his development in the Busch Series (NASCAR's number-two national series), where he fought to prove he was more than just a name. We revisit the tragic events of May 12, 2000, at New Hampshire International Speedway. What began as a routine practice session ended in a heartbreak that shook the racing world to its core. But the story doesn't end in Turn 3. We also uncover the lasting legacy left behind: how Kyle and Pattie Petty channeled their unimaginable grief into the establishment of the Victory Junction Gang Camp. It's a story of loss, but also of how a family turned their darkest moment into a beacon of hope for thousands of children. In this episode: The pressure and promise of being the first 4th-generation Petty Adam's learning curve and struggles in the Busch Series The timeline of the tragic accident at New Hampshire How the racing community reacted to the loss of its "Prince" The creation and impact of Victory Junction Learn more about your ad choices. Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they react to a chaotic House oversight hearing on ICE operations, the federal government's sudden halt and restart of flights in El Paso, and California's controversial “jock tax” that reportedly cost Seattle's quarterback more than he earned for winning the Super Bowl.First, they break down the theatrics from Tuesday's House immigration hearing, where Democrats grilled ICE Director Todd Lyons over enforcement actions. New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver went so far as to ask Lyons whether he believed he was going to Hell for ICE's policies. Jim notes the absurdity of her questions and the massive double standard Democrats emply on matters of faith.Next, they scratch their heads as the Federal Aviation Administration orders a 10-day clearance of air space around El Paso, Texas. But a few hours later, the order was lifted. At the time Jim and Greg recorded, the official explanation was the incursion of a drone from a Mexican cartel. Since then the explanations have only gotten more strange. Finally, they comment on the insanity of California's "jock tax" which cost Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold roughly $71,000 more than he earned for winning the game. Jim and Greg discuss how extreme this policy is and how these sorts of laws could impact the success of certain teams down the road. Please visit our great sponsors:Upgrade your sleep with Brooklyn Bedding and get 30% off sitewide at https://BrooklynBedding.com when you use promo code 3ML at checkout.Find your way forward with BetterHelp when you sign up at https://www.BetterHelp.com/3ML to get 10% off your first month.Upgrade your wardrobe with Mizzen & Main — get 20% off your first purchase at https://MizzenandMain.com with promo code 3ML20.New episodes every weekday.

Jeff Hammond, Darrell Waltrip's longtime crew chief and former Fox Sports commentator, makes his debut as co-host of The Scene Vault Podcast as we drop news of the upcoming re-release of the 10-episode docuseries Firestorm: 2000-2001 -- The Years That Forever Changed NASCAR. Ben Leslie drops some bombshells when it comes to fuel cells and trick noses, one of which helped Mark Martin win the 2002 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. We then dig into the July 15, 1999 issue of Winston Cup Scene. Jeff Burton wins for the third year in a row at New Hampshire, but it's Tony Stewart who dominates the event until running out of gas with a couple of laps to go … and you just IMAGINE how well that went over with the fresh-faced rookie. Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon have a last-lap run-in, which leads to a bit of a POST-RACE confrontation between the two future NASCAR Hall of Famers. Kenny Wallace gets a second-place finish, the best finish of his Winston Cup career. Mark Martin guts his way through a series of injuries he'd sustained at Daytona the week before to finish sixth. We've got lug nuts … and talk of franchising … flying all over the place. Finally … a news story and host Rick Houston's column discuss Busch Series driver Jeff Krogh's career-ending injury and the reaction of his friends and family to the mishap. In a podcast interview, President Donald Trump pushed the idea that the GOP should control election systems in at least 15 states. The comments sparked swift backlash from lawmakers who called the proposal “outlandishly illegal,” raising fresh concerns about federal overreach ahead of the 2026 midterms. However, politicians and the media weren't upset when President Joe Biden tried to do the same thing. 2026-01-15 | UPDATES #100 | Sergey Karaganov appears on Tucker Carlson — it's a match made in hell – and they talked about nuclear blackmail, Europe as the enemy, and how the Kremlin may be forced to save humanity and civilisation, by wiping out Europe in a nuclear firestorm. Yes, he said that. Sergey Karaganov — a long-time Moscow foreign-policy heavyweight and nuclear-escalation enthusiast — sat down with Tucker Carlson and did what Kremlin ideologues do best: talk about erasing Ukraine, recasting the war as Russia versus “evil Europe,” and then floated an escalatory ladder that ends in nuclear strikes on European states. And yes, he said the loud bit out even louder: “Europe will be taken away from the map of the humanity.” Let's break down what he threatened, why Karaganov matters, but not in the way that he wants us to believe, and how this fits the Kremlin's intimidation cycle — especially as it comes on the day when Trump (once more) publicly blamed Zelensky for stalled talks while Russia and kept on hitting Ukrainian civilians and energy infrastructure.----------SOURCES: Tucker Carlson interview transcript (The Singju Post, Jan 2026): Karaganov's “map of humanity” line and UK/Germany targeting remarks. upday (UK edition, Jan 15, 2026): summary of Karaganov's threat framing (note: page labels itself AI-generated). A revelatory and searingly immediate report from the frontlines of the firestorm that consumed Los Angeles, from the MS NOW correspondent and New York Times bestselling author of Separated, who covered the fires on the ground as an LA native. On the morning of January 7, 2025, a message pinged the phone of Jacob Soboroff, a national correspondent for MS NOW. "Big Palisades fire. We are evacuating," his brother texted within minutes of the blaze engulfing the hillside behind the home where he and his pregnant wife were living. "Really bad." An attached photo showed a huge black plume rising from behind the house, an umbrella of smoke towering over everything they owned. Jacob rushed to the office of the bureau chief."I should go. I grew up in the Palisades."Soon he was on the front line of the blaze-his first live report of what would turn out to be weeks covering unimaginable destruction, from both the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, in Altadena. In the days to come, Soboroff appeared across the networks of NBC News as Los Angeles was ablaze, met with displaced residents and workers, and pressed Governor Gavin Newsom in an interview on Meet the Press. But no story Soboroff has covered at home or abroad-the trauma of family separation at the border, the displacement of the war in Ukraine, the collapse of order in Haiti-could have prepared him for reporting live as the hallmarks of his childhood were engulfed in flames around him while his hometown burned to the ground. But for Soboroff, questions remained after the fires were controlled: what had he just witnessed? How could it have happened? Is it inevitable something like it will happen again? This set Soboroff off on months of reporting-with firefighters, fire victims, political leaders, academics, earth scientists, wildlife biologists, meteorologists and more-that made him keenly aware of how the misfortune of seeing his past carbonize was also a form of time travel into the dystopian world his children will inhabit. This is because the 2025 LA fires were not an isolated tragedy, but rather they are a harbinger-"the fire of the future," in the words of one senior emergency-management official.Firestorm is the story of the costliest wildfire in American history, the people it affected and the deeply personal connection to one journalist covering it. It is a love letter to Los Angeles, a yearning to understand the fires, and why America's new age of disaster we are living through portends that-without a reckoning of how Los Angeles burned-there is more yet, and worse, to come..Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

- The show examines the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good during an ICE operation in Minneapolis and repeatedly asks why the confrontation escalates to deadly force. - Video footage is analyzed frame by frame to argue the shooting is justified self-defense after Goode drives her vehicle toward a federal agent. - Gerry accuses Democratic leaders and media figures of exploiting the death to create a political “martyr” and inflame anti-ICE protests. - The episode connects the incident to broader claims of corruption, lawlessness, and political radicalization in Minnesota and other blue states. January 7 marks one year since the Palisades and Eaton fires ignited in Los Angeles County. MS NOW senior political reporter Jacob Soboroff reported on the fires, an assignment he pursued because he grew up in Pacific Palisades, despite the emotional challenges of the task. As he writes in his new book, “Firestorm,” “What are you supposed to say when the entire community you were born and raised in is wiped off the map, literally burning to the ground before your eyes?” Soboroff joins us to share how he found the words, where recovery stands in LA and why we're now in “America's New Age of Disaster.” Guests: Jacob Soboroff, senior political and national reporter, MS NOW (formerly MSNBC); author, "Firestorm: The Great Los Angeles Fires and America's New Age of Disaster" and "Separated: Inside An American Tragedy" Learn more about your ad choices. Happy New Year, and welcome back to the Outdoor Minimalist podcast. After a much-needed hiatus, I've had time to reflect on where this show is headed—and how I can better manage the energy and care that go into producing it.With that in mind, I want to share a few updates you can expect as we move through 2026.First, our Monday episodes aren't changing. We'll continue releasing weekly expert interviews on a wide range of topics, many of which come directly from listener requests. If there's a topic or guest you'd love to hear on the show, I'd genuinely love to know. You can reach out to me on social media or through theoutdoorminimalist.com.Our Friday episodes are where you'll see a small shift. We'll continue covering public lands policy, but in a more focused way. There are incredible organizations—like Western Priorities and the newly founded Re:Public—doing dedicated, in-depth public lands reporting, and we want to help support and uplift that work. Producing two episodes every week, with one being a news-focused show, isn't sustainable long-term, so moving forward, Friday episodes will be released every other week. The good news is that public lands coverage isn't going away—it'll just be less frequent on the podcast. For more regular updates, you can follow us on Instagram and TikTok, or subscribe to our weekly newsletter. And when those Friday episodes do drop, I hope you'll continue tuning in.So, to recap: Monday episodes will continue weekly, just as they have for the past three years, and Friday episodes will now be released every other Friday. Now, onto the show.In episode 205 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, we are talking about wildfire—but not in the way it's usually framed. So much of the public conversation around fire focuses on catastrophe: dramatic footage, scorched landscapes, and endless debates about forest thinning or suppression. But what often gets lost is the science—and more importantly, the solutions that actually determine whether homes and communities survive when fire inevitably arrives. My guest today has spent years working at the intersection of wildfire science, film, and public understanding, pushing back against misinformation and tragedy-only narratives in favor of something more constructive: community resilience.Connor Nelson is a Los Angeles–based cinematographer and documentary filmmaker whose work centers on wildfire, mental health, and addiction. Connor recently shot Inside the L.A. Firestorm, a NASA-supported documentary examining the Palisades and Eaton fires, and he's currently working on an eight-part documentary series focused on wildfire, solutions-based storytelling, and what actually protects communities. Across his work, he challenges the media's tendency to chase tragedy and misinformation, asking a harder—but far more useful—question: What would it look like if we told stories that changed outcomes instead of just documenting loss?Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/outdoor.minimalist.book/Website: https://www.theoutdoorminimalist.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@theoutdoorminimalistBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/outdoorminimalistListener Survey: https://forms.gle/jd8UCN2LL3AQst976------------------Connor NelsonWebsite: https://www.connornelsondp.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/connornelson.dop/Inside the LA Firestorm: https://www.pbs.org/video/weathered-inside-the-la-firestorm-l31r0b/

The Firestorm and Civilian Horror — James M. Scott — The March 9th raid generates a catastrophic "tidal wave of fire" that overwhelms Tokyo's primitive air defense infrastructure and emergency response systems. Scott recounts the horror through survivor testimony, including Shizuko Nishio, whose family flees to a school only to discover absence of protective shelter from the advancing firestorm. Scott documents the intense heat literally melting glass embedded in concrete building structures while the firestorm creates its own weather system through violent convection, generating hurricane-force winds that transport oxygen toward the fire center while simultaneously drawing human bodies and debris toward the conflagration. Scott incorporates eyewitness documentation from photographer Koyo Ishikawa, who visually documents the firestorm aftermath, describing a wall of fire advancing across the urban landscape like an ocean wave consuming everything in its destructive path. 1930 TOKYO
