Patt shares how his pursuit of purpose and performance once led him to burnout — and how learning to say “no” became an act of worship. Together, they unpack what it means to live a life of holy ambition, to hear God's voice amidst noise, and to redefine success beyond productivity. This episode challenges listeners to examine their pace, protect what truly matters, and pursue a life of alignment over achievement.TakeawaysSaying “yes” to everything isn't obedience.True success is measured by alignment, not output.God's voice often contrasts with worldly ambition.Discipline means protecting what matters most.Health, rest, and family are spiritual priorities. You can't serve others from an empty tank.Obedience sometimes looks like slowing down.Productivity doesn't equal purpose.Growth without boundaries leads to burnout.God can do more with your obedience than with your effort.Sound Bites“Obedience almost ruined my career—but it saved my soul.” “You can't gain the world and keep your peace.” “God doesn't need your hustle; He wants your heart.”Chapters00:00 Introduction — Meeting Patt Barrett 02:45 Growing Up in Faith and Music 07:10 Discovering God's Voice in a New Way 11:20 Songwriting, Words, and Spiritual Connection 14:35 The Role of Health and Rhythm in Creativity 20:00 Learning to Participate Fully in Life 23:45 Redefining ‘Opportunity' and Saying No 28:00 The Difference Between Ambition and Obedience 33:15 The Hidden Cost of Success 36:40 God's Voice vs. Your Voice 40:00 Living Intentionally and in Tension 42:15 The Freedom in Limitation 45:00 “I've Got a Fire” — The Story Behind the Album 47:00 Closing Reflections: Success Is Different===========================Subscribe and Listen to the Own It Show HERE:➡︎ YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@justinroethlingshoefer➡︎ Apple Podcasts:https://apple.co/3KCyN3j➡︎ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3F58Ez4lbIKQ6kMu2pfpIG===========================Resources:⚡️CHECK OUR PROGRAMS: https://ownitcoaching.com/programs/⚡️BOOK: https://thepowerofownershipbook.com/=========================== Connect with Justin Roethlingshoefer on Social Media:➡︎ linkedin.com/in/justin-roethlingshoefer➡︎https://www.instagram.com/justinroeth/?hl=en

Judging Others 7Judge not, that you be not judged. 2For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 6Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. ... The Golden Rule 12So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

25Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 28And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? 32For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Giving to the Needy 6Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Lay Up Treasures in Heaven 19Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.[b]

Today, I am joined by author Joe Gagnon. Joe is driven by a simple mission: helping people realize they are capable of far more than they believe is possible. Over the years, he has led six companies as CEO, coached top performers, and pushed himself to physical and mental extremes—completing six Ironman races, running 100-mile ultramarathons, finishing Six marathons on Six continents in Six days, and completing the legendary Badwater 135 ultramarathon through Death Valley. As CEO of Raynmaker, he leads the development of an AI-powered sales platform designed to help small businesses grow smarter and faster. As a high-performance coach, he partners with bold, ambitious leaders to break through their self-imposed limits and lead lives filled with purpose and greater impact.Joe's life and his second book, *Living Intentionally*, are rooted in the belief that growth happens at the edge. It's in the uncomfortable, uncertain, and transformational moments that we find out who we truly are. The principles of grit, grace, and groundedness guide every step he takes. Whether he's building a company, mentoring a founder, or speaking on stage, his goal remains the same: to inspire others to live intentionally by design, not by chance. We talk a lot about finding our own way in life and how we do that with meaning, intention, and love. Love Your Enemies 43You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?47And if you greet only your brothers,[a] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Oaths 33Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn. 34But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37Let what you say be simply Yes or No; anything more than this comes from evil.

Lust 27You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. 28But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.29If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. Divorce 31It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce. 32But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Christ Came to Fulfill the Law 17Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Anger 21You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. 22But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother[a] will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[b] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, You fool! will be liable to the hell[c] of fire. 23So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.
Salt and Light 13You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a]they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
How you spend your life matters and you get to make the plan...do it on purpose! Ber Bolton is a natural at this and we're so thankful she's willing to share such practical advice to make life and ministry more productive, effective, and enjoyable!
10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
“Human potential really is infinite. Along the way, we created a whole bunch of concepts in fear-based thinking that got in the way of us turning the fire on that everyone of us has inside us. But sadly, if all we do is we sit on the couch and watch Netflix, you don't unlock it. You've got to do something. You are not here to live the life everyone's telling you to live. The world wants you to be who you are. I don't think that what we should be doing is taking input from the world. We should build ourselves first. It's never too late. It doesn't matter if you start when you're 57, you're 29, whatever age it is.” -Joe Gagnon What if the limits you believe in are just illusions? In this episode, Joe Gagnon — CEO, high-performance coach, ultra-endurance athlete, and author of Living Intentionally — challenges us to rethink what's possible when we trade autopilot for intentional living. From Ironman races to ultramarathons to six marathons on six continents in six days, Joe's jaw-dropping yet deeply human story is proof that growth lives at the edge of discomfort. He joins us to share how curiosity, courage, and grit can help anyone uncover their “why,” move through fear, and step into their full potential. What we discuss in this episode: Joe's path to living with intention Awakening from dormancy: discovering your “why” and purpose Why taking the first step matters more than waiting for the perfect path The role of curiosity in a purposeful life Embracing discomfort: how to move through it instead of avoiding it The surprising benefits of breathwork How to tell the difference between a meaningful risk and recklessness Joe's reflections on ego and the work of overcoming self One of the scariest moments he faced, and the lessons it carried His take on trauma, victimhood, and resilience Resources: Joe's book: Living Intentionally: How intentionality enables success, fulfillment, and growth Instagram: Joe Gagnon (@thehighperformancelife) YouTube: Joe Gagnon - YouTube Click the link below to support the FISCAL Act https://switch4good.org/fiscal-act/ Share the website and get your resources here https://kidsandmilk.org/ Send us a voice message and ask a question. In this conversation, Joe shares insights from his book Living Intentionally, a bold guide to finding clarity and resilience in a chaotic world. Drawing from his experiences leading innovative companies and pushing his physical limits across the globe, Joe reveals how embracing discomfort, building supportive habits, and balancing ambition with presence can unlock a more grounded and meaningful life. His story is proof that it's never too late to start fresh, to rewrite your narrative, and to push past self-imposed limits. If you've ever felt stuck, too old to start, or overwhelmed by the thought of change, Joe's wisdom will encourage you to take one intentional step at a time toward the extraordinary life God designed for you.Chapters:[00:00] Podcast Preview[01:15] Topic and Guest Introduction[03:32] Introduction to Joe Gagnon and His Journey[06:36] The Breakout: From Average to Athlete[08:18] The Marathon Challenge: Six Marathons in Six Days[11:30] Why Self-Care Must Come First[14:24] The Power of Mindset in Pushing Limits[18:22] Finding Your Why: The Importance of Purpose[23:32] The Five Pillars of a High-Performance Life[27:58] Embracing Discomfort and Reframing Life's Challenges[28:40] The Journey to Plant-Based Living[31:47] Understanding Personal Choices and Their Impact[36:00] Taking the First Step Towards Change[38:03] Building a Success Plan and Celebrating Progress[41:17] Curiosity and Lifelong Learning[43:41] Where to Find Joe's Book Living Intentionally[45:17] Fun Family Traditions & Giving Back[47:08] Final Thoughts and ResourcesResources mentioned:Book: Living Intentionally by Joe GagnonEmail: jgagnon232@gmail.comDaily Blog: joecurious.substack.comWebsite: thehighperformancelife.netInstagram: @thehighperformancelifeLinkedIn: Joe Gagnon on LinkedInVisibly Fit 7-Week Accelerator ProgramConnect with today's guest:Joe Gagnon is a CEO, high-performance coach, endurance athlete, and author of Living Intentionally. ✨ What New Orleans Taught Me About Living Intentionally ✨ New Orleans is a city with soul. Its rich history, resilience after Katrina, the music spilling into the streets, the food meant to be savored, and the magic of second line parades—all of it carries lessons on how to live life more fully. In this episode, I'm sharing my most recent trip to the French Quarter and the four powerful lessons New Orleans reminded me about intentional living: Presence is everything. Go with the flow. Say yes to the unexpected. Honor your roots and stories. Whether you've been to New Orleans many times, or have never set foot there, these lessons are ones you can carry into your everyday life. From savoring your morning coffee to saying yes to something new, my hope is that this episode inspires you to slow down, romanticize your life, and let the ordinary become extraordinary.

The Mindful Healers Podcast with Dr. Jessie Mahoney and Dr. Ni-Cheng Liang
“Aging isn't just about getting older; it's about growing more evolved each day. More nuanced, more enriched. More beautiful. More ourselves” - Emily Dickinson How do we age with softness? How do we approach a birthday—or a fertility milestone—with compassion instead of judgment? In this rich and heart-forward conversation, I join Dr. Erica Bove, my birthday twin, to explore what it means to see with the heart, especially in moments of uncertainty, grief, and growth. Dr. Erica Bove is a reproductive endocrinologist and integrative fertility coach for women physicians. She is a beloved retreat participant who shares candid reflections about her experience at not one, but two of my retreats. This podcast episode was recorded for her podcast, Love and Science Fertility. We recorded it in celebration of our upcoming birthdays. This is what she has to say about the episode – “With the growth of the Love and Science community, it feels like we are constantly navigating a birthday in the group. Birthdays are often fraught with many complexities-- grief for where we thought we would be by now, cognitive dissonance of people wanting to celebrate us when we feel sad and angry, and also the sheer fact that our ovaries are getting older. I've known Dr. Jessie Mahoney for a long time; in fact, we share the same birthday. July is our birthday month, so we decided to team up and share our wisdom about birthdays. We hope to share a fresh perspective on birthdays. I look to her for wisdom and guidance, and I'm sure you will feel the depth of her presence when you listen.” In this episode, we discuss birthdays as soulful markers of time and growth, how expectations can shift into intentions, and what it means to return to yourself with tenderness, especially in the face of challenges. This episode is a mindful invitation to pause and reflect on how far you've come, what you've learned, and who you're becoming. Pearls of Wisdom: Replacing expectations with intentions opens space for softness, peace, and joy, especially around birthdays and timelines. Fertility journeys can feel like a relentless race against time, but when we pause to look through the lens of growth and wisdom, we find we are never moving backwards. Self-compassion is not optional—it's essential. Learning to see with the heart invites healing, clarity, and grounded decision-making. We are not meant to carry everything alone. Being part of a loving, mindful community changes everything. The nervous system responds to intentional calm. Creating space for reflection and stillness isn't indulgent—it's medicine. Reflection Questions: What do you know this year that you didn't know last year? How are you not alone in your current journey? What would your future, wisest self wish you had done more of this year? If this episode resonates with you, I invite you to explore how Pause and Presence retreats can offer you a transformational reset. Whether you're seeking grounding, clarity, or simply a breath of fresh air in your life, you'll return home with renewed energy and wisdom that lasts. Let us know what you enjoy about the show! What happens when a creative powerhouse learns to embrace all facets of herself? Kristen Anderson-Lopez—the brilliant songwriter behind Frozen's "Let It Go," Coco's "Remember Me," and WandaVision's "Agatha All Along"—opens up about the delicate dance between artistic ambition and motherhood, revealing how these seemingly opposing forces have actually nourished each other."Having children gave us both, as artists, a lot of structure," Kristen shares, reflecting on how parenthood transformed her creative process with husband Robert Lopez. Far from limiting her artistry, this structure provided a framework that enhanced their work. The lullabies she created to comfort her children during work trips later inspired pivotal moments in Coco, while her personal experiences with anxiety directly informed Elsa's journey in Frozen.Kristen speaks candidly about navigating the dizzying heights of success—particularly after Frozen became a global phenomenon. "We're going to try to enjoy the ride but not get addicted to the ride," she recalls deciding with her husband, describing success as "peeking your head out of the water for a little while, and then going back into the water to do your work." This grounded perspective allowed them to maintain their creative integrity while processing their newfound fame.As she looks toward the next chapter of her life, with her children growing older, Kristen contemplates expanding beyond her established collaborative partnership. Whether directing an animated feature or creating a one-woman show, she's learning to embrace all her layers—not just the confident, take-charge energy she's known for, but also the "wise goddess" who finds renewal in quiet moments in nature.Ready to discover how one of entertainment's most accomplished creators thinks about authenticity, creative collaboration, and intentional living?
