As you can tell by the title, we have some major life updates that will affect the show moving forward. All will be explained in this episode. We're gathered here again with Susan (who is now pretty much a co-host of the show) to discuss a film that is described as a campy, satirical homage to late 60's technicolor B-movies: The Love Witch. It's a very fitting film for the time we're living in as it dissects heteronormative relationships and gender roles/dynamics and how they affect women. We also catch up on some other movies we saw over this past month such as Audition & Neptune Frost. Plenty of things to discuss in this episode, so don't skip a second! Hey everyone. As you can tell by the title, this is not our typical programming. You may have noticed that we have been quiet for the past month or so. You may have also noticed that some episodes have been taken down. Well friends, we have been dealing with a lot of personal matters in our lives to say the least. Over the last couple of weeks, we have learned that a close friend of ours who was a recurring guest on the show did some terrible things and really hurt some people over the last few years. We absolutely do not stand with that and felt uncomfortable giving him a platform, so as a result we took those episodes down out of respect to those affected by his actions. We were also going to put out a review/discussion of the American comedy classic Idiocracy, but life has just been real chaotic not only to us but our special guests we invited. They too have had to deal with some serious personal matters in their lives and as a result, the episode will be put on hold for the time being. We sincerely apologize for everything. We'll be going on a break to recuperate and reflect. Follow us on Instagram @videotapespodcast so you can stay updated on what happens with the show. On this week's episode, we plunge deep into the madness that is the live action Super Mario Bros movie, which was the very first ever video game film adaptation. Coincidentally right after our last episode, a fan restoration of the movie with 20 mins of deleted scenes made its way onto the internet which is the version we all watched. I guess the universe was in our favor of watching this underground cult hit. This episode features special guest Julian aka Jules, the designated Nintendo boy in our friend group. He joins us on our journey to point and laugh at (and simultaneously praise) the insane liberties the directors and writers took with the source material. Is this film really as bad as people make it out to be or is there truly something unique and special about this once in a lifetime adaptation? Strap in folks because this is gonna be a long bumpy ride. This film truly fried our brains and as a result, this episode ended up being a bit of mess. Next episode we will be discussing yet another beautiful & insane film called Face/Off (1997) with another special guest and friend of the show, Archie! That will truly be an episode you don't want to miss! On this week's episode, Jo & Armand discuss the 2012 documentary "Jiro Dreams Of Sushi". The documentary centers around Jiro Ono, a now 95 year old sushi chef who has devoted pretty much literally most of his life to sushi and his restaurant in Tokyo. Is this just a tale of one man's extreme love and dedication to his craft or does something darker lie within? Like most things at the end of the day, it all comes back to capitalism. How fun! (Due to some slight audio drops, a text-to-speech robot had to replace some of the words that cut out. Apologies in advance if its weird and catches ya off guard. It's kinda funny tho lol.) On this episode, we briefly reminisce about hurricanes Rita and Ike then gush over and praise the unexpected classic of it's time, Napoleon Dynamite. We also talk about the stupid Elon Musk episode of Saturday Night Live that aired recently. Jo's recommendation for next episode: Jiro Dreams Of Sushi (2011) Music featured in this episode is from the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/videotapespodcast/message
