Original Release Date: Monday 16 June 2025 Description: From a secret location somewhere in America (actually a rooftop high atop the historic village neighborhood where Phil resides): Dean and Phil got together IN PERSON, and Phil's better half, Lily Holleman, joined them, first to see an experimental film from 1990 (All the Vermeers in New York) at the American Cinematheque, and then to discuss it (over cocktails). You have probably NOT seen the movie, but the discussion is both interesting AND sets up many later conversation strands that prove hilarious! In fact, if this is not the funniest episode of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour, it will do until the funniest episode gets here! Partway through, Steve the Turk (who last joined the festivities at a bar in Helsingør, Denmark, when Year 18 Episode 45 was recorded during Dean's bachelor party) joins the trio. Steve regales with information about Turkey, Denmark and Hamburg, Germany. Personalized license plates, the “No Kings” protests and who Steve the Turk's “best friend” might be are just some of the hard-hitting topics the team delve into before opening the Chillpak morgue and getting down to the brass tacks of a VERY competitive round of “Celebrity Deaths”!

I've faced physical suffering that leaves me asking why God created us so weak. My pain has taught me compassion, but I still struggle to understand its purpose. I've read Salvifici Doloris, but I need help connecting Theology of the Body to my suffering. Why does God allow this? What meaning is there in our bodily weakness? After our fourth child, my husband wants to space the next pregnancy and avoid contraception—but he's unsure about relying solely on NFP. He suggests abstinence for a while, but I'm worried about the impact on our relationship. How can we honor Church teaching, respect my need for rest, and stay close as husband and wife?I struggled with the idea of hell after college. How could a loving God allow eternal punishment? Then Theology of the Body opened my eyes: what if hell is the eternal ache of separation from the One who made us for love? Could the torment of hell be like the anguish of losing our truest beloved?Resources:Click here if you'd like to make a gift to the St. John Paul II Legacy FoundationGOOD NEWS ABOUT SEX & MARRIAGEFamily of the AmericasCouple to Couple League---Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II's beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body.Questions answered this episode:---Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II's beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body.---

Welcome to the last week of the mini-season on our attention and where we put it (and where we give it away). I am back with Thekla Brumder Ross, clinical Psychologist and addiction specialist and today there are three things Thekla said in particular that are sticking with me. I want to share them verbatim so they can sit with you too. (Might I invite you to take a deep breath between each one and read them slowly?)Social (media) is observational, real life is participatory.Boredom is the space where creative energy flows.Like food, we are going to coexist with technology for the rest of our livesIf these are all true, then there is SO much to be said for paying attention to our attention NOW and not letting anyone (or any platform) steal it from us.Listen in as Thekla gives practical advice on how to break from screens, what to expect and how to combat the cravings with self-compassion and awareness. PLUS - newsletter subscribers get a special invitation to an IN PERSON meet up in Milwaukee on June 9th - so be sure to sign up HERE if you want the link in next week's letter! Support the show
This week we cover a topic that is DESPERATLY needed right now. We need to get back to IN PERSON meets. Covid messed it up and it's up to use to bring it back. How do you do that? Easy! Listen to this episode and Dewey dumps a pile of knowledge on how to make it happen!
Andy Crouch gives readers a plethora of ways to put technology in its proper place in his book, The Tech-Wise Family. "To be a child, teenager, or young adult these days is to navigate a minefield of potentially life-altering choices." His daughter wrote in the forward explaining "...the best part of tech-wise parenting is focusing on something older and better than the newest thing. The key word is better." This better way involves choosing: Character, Shape Space, and Structuring Time.Character develops slowly, daily, as we painstakingly overcome problems. Shape spaces are places in our homes that are device free and packed with supplies to create or practice a skill which could include everything from books to board games and paints to a piano. Structuring time is intentionally setting time aside to rest from devices such as spending intentional time being grateful without instantly scrolling.Change is challenging but worthwhile. "We will have to teach our children, from early on, we're not here to make their lives easier but to make them better."Andy's Ten Tech-Wise Commitments1. We develop wisdom and courage together as a family.2. We want to create more than we consume. Fill the center of the home with things that reward skill and active engagement.3. We are designed for a rhythm of work and rest.4. We wake up before our devices do and they "go to bed" before we do.5. We aim for no screens before double digits. Avoid tethering to the glowing screen as long as you can.6. We use screens for a purpose and we use them together.7. Car time is conversation time. It takes 7 minutes to get a 'real' conversation going.8. Spouses have each other's passwords. Parents have total access to kids' devices.9. We learned to sing together. (Powerful picture book, Christmas in the Trenches, shows the power of song. A German soldier started singing Silent Night, and both sides sang together in different languages. They also shared what little treats they had been sent from home)10. We show up IN PERSON for big events in life. (weddings, births, & funerals)Interesting point, "...the quest to cure boredom with entertainment makes the problem worse, the more you entertain kids, the more bored they will get." When we choose the easy way, we miss cultivating patience. The first people to be bored were the first people who did not do manual labor. Frederick Douglass said, "Without struggle, there is no progress." The last thing learners need is for it to be too easy. Difficulty and resistance press learners forward and make the learning stick. We hope you glean much from the pages of this little jewel to bring your precious family closer together as routines are established and memories are made. Screens are probably here to stay, but our children are with us for but a season, may we live life well preparing them for the road ahead.

Today is a special episode, as it's only the second one ever recorded IN PERSON. Rick and Charles are the charming inn keepers at The Hideaway Inn in Camden, Maine. We got to visit during our last trip to Maine, and it did NOT disappoint. After falling in love with New England during their first visit in 2021, this couple made the bold decision to leave their corporate careers on the West Coast and purchase a historic inn in a town they'd only visited a handful of times. What started as a romanticized dream quickly became reality when Charles arrived alone on Valentine's Day to begin renovations on a 1990s-era property that needed significant updating. From running between two separate kitchens during their first season to creating a space that blends the best of Airbnb's independence with an inn's personal touch, Charles and Rick share the realities of their "Hallmark movie" life change. We'll explore how they transformed the property while building deep connections in a tight-knit community, their approach to hosting that deliberately avoids the traditional front desk, and how they navigate working together 24/7 after 18 years as a couple.Whether you're dreaming of your own hospitality venture or simply curious about what happens when two corporate professionals trade boardrooms for breakfast service, this conversation offers both practical insights and heartwarming moments from their journey of creating a space where guests become friends and a house becomes a true hideaway.Website: https://www.hideawayinnmaine.comBooking Site: https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/fXr5m3?currency=usdIG Handle: @hideawaymaineCozy Rock Cabin: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311027Cozy Cabin Boone: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311026Cozy Camp Sebec: https://staycozycabin.holidayfuture.com/listings/311051Cozy Rock Website: http://www.staycozycabin.comYouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_FgMwAgvORd1IwlH1nlC9g

Pamela breaks down the four types of narcissistic parents (grandiose, covert, malignant, and communal) and explains how growing up with narcissistic caregivers creates hypervigilance that extends beyond scanning the environment to scanning the body internally, amplifying pain perception and contributing to conditions like fibromyalgia, IBS, and migraines. She discusses why many high-achieving adults don't recognize their childhood experiences as traumatic, how complex PTSD manifests in successful people who come to therapy for seemingly unrelated issues, and why addressing the underlying trauma through therapy can significantly improve both emotional well-being and physical pain symptoms. Pamela emphasizes that healing begins with repairing the relationship with oneself and recognizing that you deserve care and are worthy of good things, rather than existing solely to benefit others.MEET DESTINY: Website / Instagram / BlueSky / YouTube / TikTokMEET GUEST: Website / Instagram / FacebookPamela is the owner of Sea Change Therapy, where there is a variety of specialties in the office with accessible building and easy parking access. What happens when biblical theology collides with racial essentialism? In this episode of The Think Podcast, we break down the heated exchange between renowned apologist Dr. James White and Corey Mahler of The Stone Choir, who argues that race plays a role in sanctification. Is sanctification truly colorblind? And does Mahler's view veer into theological heresy? We dissect this controversial debate with a sharp biblical lens—evaluating both sides, exposing flawed presuppositions, and reaffirming the gospel's power to sanctify every tribe and tongue. If you're serious about Christian apologetics, cultural discernment, and standing on Scripture in the face of post-Christian ideologies, this analysis is for you.Watch my whole Apologetics Answers playlist here: • Apologetics Answers Men, get real accountability and knowledge to help you become the worldview leader your family and church need. There are a tragic number of Christians who have been deceived into believing that they can live their Christian lives WITHOUT attending Church. I meet them all the time. I have friends who have been taken in by this LIE. We were baptized INTO A BODY, and BY DESIGN we need God's people. To fulfill our mandate we must be gathering IN PERSON with God's people. There are things that God only supplies in the gathering. This is short message but an important one. APOLOGIES for the quality of the recording while I was driving

Chicagoan Pope Leo XIV has been elected—and in this video, Joel Settecase of the Think Institute critically examines the office of the papacy through the lens of Scripture, history, and worldview analysis. You'll get a breakdown of Pope Leo XIV's Chicago roots, progressive alignment with Pope Francis, and the controversies surrounding his record. Then, Joel turns to the Bible to assess the legitimacy of the papal office, showing why Jesus—not Peter—is the true Rock of the Church.
