Example: 28 Days Later will begin with the letter D.  We will not be including any films with titles made up of just numbers, like 1922.  Media Discussion Worst of A  Alone in Dark (2005) – Suzie  Amityville Clown House (2017) – Mike A Town Full of Ghosts (2022) – Lonely Best of A  As Above So Below (2014) – Suzie Alien (1979)  – Mike  American Mary (2012) – Lonely Worst of B Benny Loves You (2019) – Suzie Bad Things (2023) – Mike A Banquet (2021) – Lonely Best of B Black Christmas (1974) – Mike  The Bad Batch (2016) – Suzie  Banshee Chapter (2013) - Lonely Worst of C Cabin Fever (2002) – Mike Char Man (2019) – Lonely Cobweb (2023) – Suzie  Best of C Cape Fear (1962) – Lonely  The Conjuring (2013) – Mike Cloverfield (2008) - Suzie Worst of D The Devil's Rejects (2005) – Suzie  Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) – Lonely  The Disappointments Room (2016) – Mike  Best of D The Devil's Bath (2024) – Suzie  The Dark (2018) – Lonely Drag Me to Hell (2004) - Mike Worst of E The Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) – Mike  Eat Me (2018) - Suzie Eli (2019) – Lonely Best of E Exhibit A (2007) – Lonely  Evil Dead (2013) – Mike  Event Horizon (1977) - Suzie Worst of F Feardotcom (2002) - Suzie & Mike  The Flock (2022) - Lonely Best of F Friday the 13th (1980) – Mike Forgotten (2017) – Suzie First Omen (2024) - Lonely Suzie's Deep Cuts & Surface Wounds This segment highlights lesser known films based on their IMDB ratings. It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a three parter anyways. 2012 was for me, a little bit of a slacker for horror movies, some would say that not enough time has elapsed to make this assessment, I say, shnozwaddle! The highs are really high & the lows can be quite messy. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2012? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10.

Chained (2012), Honeymoon (2014), and Relic (2020) With over 60 episodes so far in our podcast history, we realized that in all that we covered, we had never covered anything by a woman director. We knew we needed to change that. Going through the history of women directors, we realized that not only wasn't something new, but have been working in the industry since the beginning of film. And in the last two decades, have really started to show their stuff. So to help celebrate Women's History Month, we figured it was well past due that we tackle three films that were directed by women, once again, picking three random titles, but amazed to find just how similar they were to each other, not to mention being very effective in their craft, and storytelling. Movies mentioned in this episode: American Mary (2012), Army of Darkness (1992), The Babadook (2014), Chained (2012), Cockney vs Zombies (2012), Coffy (1973), Dead Hooker in a Trunk (2009), Fear Street: Part One 1994 (2021), Fear Street: Part Two 1978 (2021), Fear Street: Part Three 1666 (2021), Ganja and Hess (1973), Ginger Snaps (2000), Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988), Honeymoon (2014), Humanoids from the Deep (1980), In My Skin (2002), Inside (2007), Invasion of the Body Snatcher (1956), Kids (1995), Look What Happened to Rosemary's Baby (1976), Maniac (1980), The Monster and the Girl (1914), Near Dark (1987), The Nightingale (2018), Pet Sematary (1989), The Pit and the Pendulum (1913), The Relic (1997), Relic (2020), A Serbian Film (2010), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Starry Eyes (2014), Slumber Party Massacre (1982), Street Trash (1987), The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014), Vampire (1915)

This week, the Junkies catch up and find that Nicole is still a Ride-or-Die for Law and Order: SVU, even though the romance between Stabler and Benson hasn't moved any closer to Smoochtown; Olivia binged a 55 part-TikTok series about a pathological liar, then tries to make Shauna think she doesn't know who Gordon Ramsey is; and Shauna humblebrags that she has layers, like an onion, or an ogre, which will come as no surprise to any government agency that's monitoring her Google searches. Then the Junkies explore the ‘Good for Her!' Cinematic Universe, a genre that has at one end the body horror flick American Mary, and at the other, the far less gory Legally Blonde, with Gone Girl being somewhere in the middle. It's a genre whose mascot is a Lucille Bluth meme and often involves some very specific kinds of revenge. And although some of the protagonists in these ‘Good for Her!' movies might not be able to convince a court of law that the bad guy had it coming, we in the audience are all silently agreeing: “Good for her.” Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pop-culture-junkie/id1536737728 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7k2pUxzNDBXNCHzFM7EL8W?si=6d2845539f0843c9 Website: www.popculturejunkie.com Facebook: PopCultureJunkiePodcast Twitter: @PopJunkies Instagram: @pop.culturejunkies Threads: @pop.culturejunkies Email: junkies@popculturejunkie.com Shauna on Instagram: @shaunatrinidad  Shauna on TikTok: @shaunatrinidad Shauna on Threads: @shaunatrinidad Nicole on Instagram: @nicole_eldridge Nicole on TikTok: @nicole_eldridge Olivia on Instagram: @livimariez Olivia on TikTok: @livyolife420

Jill ‘Sixx' Gevargizian is the director of The Stylist that first showed up as a short, in the 2018 anthology, Watch If You Dare. It was co-written by Eric Havens, who is also co-writer on Call Girl, Jill's debut film and this year is the 10 year anniversary! Jill talks her secret to success and why she surrounds herself with people who are good at what they do and who are better at it than she is. It's been her version of film school. She points to her having a good network to source from when thinking about a project and that project's success. Knowing people like Laurence Harvey (from Human Centipede) who she met at a convention and Tristan Risk (from American Mary) who she met through working with the Soska Sisters, knowing the right people just made it easy to execute her movies. Jill brought her years of experience in her trade as a hairstylist in her film, The Stylist, to make it as realistic as possible. So she created the first hairstylist slasher flick! She talks about other amazing films and franchises that also got their starts as shorts like Saw and The Babadook. Jill's film career really began with the creation of Slaughter Movie House where weird indie horror shorts are shown. She is producing on a film doing festivals right now (as of Summer 2023) called Black Mold, so keep an eye out!! Check out the Texas Chainsaw Massacre documentary, The Legacy of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jill is also on that as a super fan and contributor! There are some secret projects coming up including one produced with Ed Sanchez (Blair Witch Project) and written by Adam Cesare (Clown in the Cornfield book), so keep an eye out! More women! More horror! Directors. And movies. We're right in the middle of a three-part series on horror movies directed by women! This episode features very strong evidence that sometimes dead is better, a young girl who dreams of creepy storybook characters while rabbits run wild in Australia, western expansion and cannibalism in the 19th-century, and a promising medical student driven to pursue an unconventional surgical career. Stephen King should be ashamed of himself. He gave a perfectly respectful graveyard honoring animals such a bad rap. It's a place where the dead speak. But you certainly do not want to go beyond, to the place where the dead walk! Director Mary Lambert takes us there and back again, in the first feature film adaptation of Pet Sematary (1989).Political tension, and rabbit panic are running wild in Australia in 1957. A young girl struggles with forbidden friendships, the death of her grandmother, the threat of her pet rabbit being taken away, and even her own imagination. Childhood proves to be a very challenging experience for Celia (1989), directed by Ann Turner. It's manifest destiny time in the United States. But some of these characters are definitely not who you would hope to encounter if you were heading west in the mid-1800s. Director Antonia Bird serves up a darkly comedic adventure of gruesome cannibalism, with some truly unsettling music setting the tone, in Ravenous (1999)!Ah, Katharine Isabelle is featured in the role of Mary Mason. A promising young medical student, who uses her skill to perform underground body modification surgeries.  But why would she leave medical school for such a pursuit? Well, money. And revenge. The Soska Sisters invite you to spend a little time under the knife, with American Mary (2012).
