Are we too left-brained for our own good? In one of the most powerful conversations ever on The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, John Eldredge unpacks how modern life has stripped us of mystery, beauty, and true refuge. We are being discipled—not by faith, but by the internet—trained to expect instant answers while losing our ability to linger, wonder, and believe. Eldredge shares how our screens shape our souls, why beauty is an essential balm for the weary, and the surprising reason why children instinctively build forts. This episode is an invitation to step away from the digital chaos and rediscover what truly restores. ** Get your copy of Experience Jesus Really here Learn more about John and what he has to offer here ** Download your free 1000 Hours Outside tracker here >> https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/trackers Find everything you need to kick off your 1000 Hours Outside Journey here >> https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/blog/allthethings Order of copy of Ginny's newest book, Until the Streetlights Come On here >> https://amzn.to/3RXjBlN Learn more about your ad choices. We live in an era where our attention is constantly hijacked. AI is replacing our ability to think deeply, faith is thinning out, and our addiction to instant information has left us drowning in noise but starving for wisdom. And in the midst of it all, trauma remains unhealed, relationships are fracturing, and many feel more disconnected from God than ever before. So, what's really happening beneath the surface? And how do we reclaim a faith that's deep, resilient, and transformative? This week, John Eldredge joins Win Today with one of his most urgent messages yet. He reveals: Why trauma won't heal through knowledge alone—and what actually works The hidden connection between shallow Christianity and the rising divorce epidemic How artificial intelligence is rewiring our brains and keeping us spiritually numb The critical practice that will restore your ability to hear God's voice today For centuries, the Church understood that deep transformation requires more than sermons and self-help tips—it demands practices that restore the soul, anchor the heart, and cultivate genuine encounters with God. But today, we've traded depth for distraction. We scroll endlessly, consume information without application, and wonder why we feel spiritually exhausted. If you feel stuck in faith, weary from digital overload, or frustrated by an inability to truly heal, this conversation is for you. John is here to guide you back—not to more information, but to the kind of faith that actually changes your life. Listen now.

This week on NAFC, the gang takes a cringe-filled trip down memory lane, revisiting middle and high school memories—specifically, the awkward realities of puberty and the extreme measures they took to hide their, uh, magazine clippings. Expect plenty of secondhand embarrassment and probably a few confessions no one asked for. Mox and Izzy then do a quick review of Memoir of a Snail, breaking down its charm before the crew dives headfirst into the absolute chaos that is David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Wild at Heart. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Text us your questions! This is a re-release of an episode from our first season: our first conversation with Kristin Kobes Du Mez, which happened to fall just after January 6, 2021. It seems fitting to revisit it now.=====In this episode, we chat with Kristin Kobes Du Mez about her book that's been making waves and is brilliantly titled Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation. This book is probably our favorite of 2020 and is a must-read. During the course of this interview, we chat about everything from toxic masculinity and power hungry religious leaders to Amy Grant and Tiffany. Seriously.Content note: this episode contains some mild profanity.=====Want to support us?The best way is to subscribe to our Patreon. This week, Jennie Allen is joined by our friend John Eldredge, and they're diving deep into the realities of spiritual attack and authority. Right from the start, John teaches us how to pray over our homes and lives, giving us practical tools. He also tackles a question that many of us wonder about: How do you know when it's a spiritual attack? In this conversation, we hope you're equipped to recognize the enemy's schemes and push back the darkness with the authority given to you through Jesus and the power of God's Word. One of the more harrowing films we've covered on the podcast (and the second film we've covered in 2024 with a memorable “gobble gobble” line), 1992's TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME was not the quirky, enjoyable plotline wrap-up fans of Twin Peaks wanted. David Lynch instead challenged the audience to identify with Laura Palmer's humanity and pain, making her a real person - not just a girl wrapped in plastic. THE FIRST OMEN director Arkasha Stevenson joins us to talk about how this film (and WILD AT HEART) inspired her to become a filmmaker, the uncanny experience of watching it without any prior knowledge of the Twin Peaks series, and the directorial choices Lynch makes that create the film's deeply unsettling atmosphere.
