Episode 213 of The Adventure Podcast features French-born adventurer, horsewoman, and advocate for Australia's wild brumbies, Alienor Le Gouvello. A few years ago, Alienor travelled 5,000+ kilometres on a 13-month solo trek along the Bicentennial National Trail, a journey she completed with three wild horses she had tamed herself and her loyal dog, Fox. It starts as a tale of grit and endurance - surviving tropical fever, infection, and crocodile-infested rivers. But it unfolds into a story about connection, resilience, and purpose. Alienor and Matt explore her years working in remote Indigenous communities, her bond with the land and her animals, and how taming wild horses taught her trust, patience, and empathy. They discuss the ethics of animal management, and how the wilderness can reshape our sense of identity and belonging. This is a story of wild places and wilder spirits. Of what it means to find family, freedom, and purpose in the saddle. For extra insights from the worlds of adventure, exploration and the natural world, you can find The Adventure Podcast+ community on Substack. Rejecting the idea of “breaking”, in favour of gentle communication.28:30 – 33:00 | The year-and-a-half-long process of taming, training, and learning to live alongside her horses before setting out.33:00 – 38:00 | Gruelling early months through steep mountains, moments of doubt, and learning to work as one herd.38:00 – 44:00 | How Alienor's bond with her horses deepened into mutual trust and companionship, and the small, powerful moments that defined that connection.44:00 – 48:30 | Finishing the expedition broken but transformed, finding herself adrift between adventure and normal life.48:30 – 52:00 | Writing her book, becoming a mother, and finding her calling in equine-assisted therapy - helping others heal through the wisdom of horses.52:00 – 56:00 | Alienor reflects on motherhood, hope for the future, and why she believes the next generation, and their connection to nature, will carry the torch forward.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-adventure-podcast. We continue David Lynch: Between Two Worlds with a journey into the nightmarish echo chamber of LOST HIGHWAY — a film that fractures time, identity, and genre into something both terrifying and seductive. Released in 1997, LOST HIGHWAY marked a turning point for Lynch: a return to darker, more experimental storytelling after TWIN PEAKS and FIRE WALK WITH ME alienated mainstream audiences. With a pulsing industrial score, a story co-written by WILD AT HEART novelist Barry Gifford, and one of the creepiest villains ever put to screen, Lynch delivered a noir-horror hybrid that confused critics but inspired a new generation of filmmakers and fans. In this episode, we begin our deep dive into the making of the film. We explore how Lynch's growing disillusionment with Hollywood, a surprising creative partnership with Barry Gifford, and a growing interest in identity and psychological fragmentation laid the groundwork for what would become one of the director's most enigmatic films. From the film's origins through its complex casting choices, this is the story of how LOST HIGHWAY began.

People are feeling the trickster vibes this week all around! Cami is adjusting to vampire life and mostly spending time being a menace and tricking everyone into thinking she gaf. Klaus tries to keep her safe but all that does is piss her the hell off. Josh returns to town (!!!) and is immediately taken advantage of by Davina. But we forgive because we have to focus on the fact the Davina is definitely getting taken advantage of worse. Aya enlists Elijah to help gather information about the mysterious weapon that can kill him, with the help of a blonde witch and pool. The Mikaelsons do figure out what the weapon is, but someone just barely beats them to it…Remember to rate, review, and share, brothers!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @doppelgangerspodcast!

Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge is a Christian men's book first published in 2001. It explores masculinity, desire, and the unique role God designed for men to live. Eldredge argues that many men feel trapped, domesticated, or disconnected from their true nature, and he calls them to embrace a more adventurous, authentic, and spiritual life.Core Ideas from Wild at Heart:1. The Masculine Heart Has Three Core Desires• A Battle to Fight – Men are wired to seek purpose, meaning, and something worth fighting for.• An Adventure to Live – Life is meant to be risky, bold, and full of discovery, not safe and tame.• A Beauty to Rescue – Men are drawn to pursue, protect, and cherish beauty, particularly expressed in relationships.2. Wounds Shape Manhood• Every man carries wounds, often from his father or authority figures. These wounds can distort masculinity unless healed by God.3. False Self vs. True Self• Many men live in a “false self” shaped by fear, performance, or passivity. Eldredge challenges men to rediscover their God-given strength and live from their “true self.”4. God as a Wild and Adventurous Father• Eldredge portrays God not as a distant rule-giver but as a passionate Father who invites men into adventure and risk.5. Restoring Masculinity• Through faith, brotherhood, and embracing risk, men can recover the heart God intended for them.
Dhruv and Cris follow Laura Dern's Sandy (from "Blue Velvet") out of her cheerfully dreamy Lumberton suburbia into the -- at first, hellishly garish, then, coldly desolate wilderness -- of the American West, trying to make sense of how Sandy (now called Lula) tries to keep her passionate romance with Sailor (played by Nicolas Cage) alive as the reality around her threatens to burn down (another one of her) dreams. Listen to the full episode to hear Dhruv only being able to make sense of the part where the dream (and the film's combustible melodrama) is extinguished; Cris, on the other hand, argues that the film's most memorable bits are its most unabashedly fantastical and melodramatic.Major spoilers, of course, for "Wild At Heart."TIME CODESIntroduction : [00:00 - 02:41]"Twin Peaks" Announcement: [02:41 - 03:32]Wild At Cannes (Contexualizing the Film): [03:32 - 16:50]"Wild At Heart": [16:50 - 01:10:48]Outro: [01:10:48 - 01:18:30]TEXT REFERENCED REPEATEDLY"Room to Dream" (David Lynch & Kristine McKenna).Do hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.You can follow us on Instagram at:CRIS: https://www.instagram.com/prdscris/.DHRUV: https://www.instagram.com/terminalcinema/.You can also follow us on Letterboxd at -CRIS: https://letterboxd.com/crislim/.DHRUV: https://letterboxd.com/aterminalcinema/.

A new cross-community artwork has been officially unveiled near The Mill Wheel in Ennis, following a joyful launch, including members of The Men's Shed, Clare County Council, Ennis Tidy Towns, and the IPAS Centre. This creative collaboration brought together people across cultures, generations, and communities, resulting in a stunning permanent piece that lights up at night with solar-powered stars. For many of the thirty individuals who donated waste jewellery and coins to the project, seeing how their contributions were transformed has been a moment of real pride. To discuss htis further, Derrick Lynch was joined by Evelyn Sorohan, creative and environmental director and Paddy Tiernan, senior engineer whom facilitated the project.
We are kicking off Cage-A-Palooza 2025 with a movie that is not only Nicolas Cage, but also David Lynch. That's right, those two worked together once, and the result was 1990's Wild at Heart. Cage plays Sailor, fresh out of jail and on a cross country road trip with his girlfriend Lula (played by Laura Dern). It has Lynch surrealism, and Cage craziness. But are these two great tastes that taste great together? Or more like oil and water? Let's find out...Thanks go out to Audie Norman (@TheAudieNorman) for the album art. It only felt right to dedicate another episode to David Lynch. In February, I put out an episode documenting a Lynch marathon that I co-organized, but that wasn't enough Lynch in my book, and so I approached two bonafide Lynch experts with the goal of having a more in-depth conversation about the filmmaker. Bill Ackerman is a film writer and the host of the fantastic Supporting Characters podcast as well as a special podcast dedicated to Blue Velvet called From the Neighborhood. He's undoubtedly one of the best film podcasters full stop end of story. Courtenay Stallings is a film historian, the editor of the Twin Peaks themed Blue Rose Magazine and is also the author of Laura's Ghost: Women Speak about Twin Peaks. Her dedication to spotlighting Lynch and her access to Lynch's world is astounding. We discuss Lynch's persona, his career throughout the years, the importance of Laura Palmer, the life changing powers of Blue Velvet, and a lot more.Show Notes:Bill Ackerman's Podcast Supporting CharactersFrom the Neighboorhood – Blue Velvet PodcastSupporting Characters InstagramCourteney Stallings InstagramLaura's Ghost: Women Speak About Twin PeaksBlue Rose MagazineDavid Lynch's Unrealized ProjectsFestival of DisruptionRoom to DreamMark FrostMulholland Drive (2001)Brian De PalmaKimmy RobertsonSabrina SutherlandThe Shrouds (2024)Hotel Room (1993)Lumiere and Company – David LynchVideo WatchdogInland Empire (2006)David Lynch Keeps His Head – David Foster WallaceThe Sixth Sense (1999)The Straight Story (1999)Atom EgoyanDuran Duran: UnstagedAngelo BadalamentiThe Secret Diary of Laura PalmerPeggy ReaveyThe Alphabet (1969)The Grandmother (1970)Six Men Getting Sick (1967)Dino De Laurentiis Dune (1984)David Lynch & Mel BrooksAlejandro JodorowskyWerner HerzogBody Heat (1981)Blood Simple (1984)Crispin GloverBlue Velvet (1986)Wild At Heart (1990)Eraserhead (1977)Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)Cult Movies: v.3Cut! John Eldredge is back for our third conversation together. We talk about his latest book, Experience Jesus Really, and how to find refuge in the summer and restore the strength of your leadership. What I learned from John in our conversation:Why praying over your vacation is essential and how to invite others to pray with you in all seasons of life. God created us to enjoy life now, and how to pull away from being discipled by the internet. You cannot trust a vacation to restore of provide refuge for your soul. Your organization may flourish more with a four-day work week. Root your team in a "vine and branch" organization who have a real life in God. As the leader of a team, learn what triggers you and then invite Christ into those parts and receive his care and compassion. If you are facing a complex leadership decision, learn to invite Jesus into that place of fear or risk aversion and ask Jesus to heal your soul. The pressure of leadership will reveal the unhealthy places that Jesus wants more access to you in the journey of becoming a wholehearted leader. Leadership is lonely. Pay attention to addictions, even if the addiction is chocolate. God may be inviting you to find refuge in him from your leadership irritations. Learn to receive from God care, love, and leadership. Your position of receiving will open you back up to love. Receiving is about being loved. You are loved. --How is the health of your leadership?Learn more about working with Lantz as your professional coach at www.lantzhoward.com --Did you find this conversation useful and encouraging?Share it with a friend and leave a review for others to be inspired as well. --Follow Lantz on LinkedIn.

The next installment in our series on David Lynch was made shortly after the booming popularity of the premiere of Twin Peaks. WILD AT HEART, based on a book by Barry Gifford, tells the story of Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern), two exuberant and impulsive lovers who set out on a cross-country trek fleeing an array of strange characters who are all trying to kill Sailor on behalf of Lula's mother Marrieta (Diane Ladd).Although carrying some key signature aspects of Lynch's work, Wild at Heart was unconventional as a subject for Lynch. Its merits remain widely debated to this day, even by us this week as we're joined by Lindsey Dunn and new friend of the FoG Steve Barnes. There's a reckless quality to this story, fitting for its main characters, that paints a difficult picture of a world that's "wild at heart and weird on top."We have a blast talking about this truly unique film and we really hope you enjoy our conversation.4:07 - Two Questions with Steve Barnes11:35 - WILD AT HEARTSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Are we too left-brained for our own good? In one of the most powerful conversations ever on The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, John Eldredge unpacks how modern life has stripped us of mystery, beauty, and true refuge. We are being discipled—not by faith, but by the internet—trained to expect instant answers while losing our ability to linger, wonder, and believe. Eldredge shares how our screens shape our souls, why beauty is an essential balm for the weary, and the surprising reason why children instinctively build forts. This episode is an invitation to step away from the digital chaos and rediscover what truly restores. ** Get your copy of Experience Jesus Really here Learn more about John and what he has to offer here ** Download your free 1000 Hours Outside tracker here >> https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/trackers Find everything you need to kick off your 1000 Hours Outside Journey here >> https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/blog/allthethings Order of copy of Ginny's newest book, Until the Streetlights Come On here >> https://amzn.to/3RXjBlN Learn more about your ad choices. We live in an era where our attention is constantly hijacked. AI is replacing our ability to think deeply, faith is thinning out, and our addiction to instant information has left us drowning in noise but starving for wisdom. And in the midst of it all, trauma remains unhealed, relationships are fracturing, and many feel more disconnected from God than ever before. So, what's really happening beneath the surface? And how do we reclaim a faith that's deep, resilient, and transformative? This week, John Eldredge joins Win Today with one of his most urgent messages yet. He reveals: Why trauma won't heal through knowledge alone—and what actually works The hidden connection between shallow Christianity and the rising divorce epidemic How artificial intelligence is rewiring our brains and keeping us spiritually numb The critical practice that will restore your ability to hear God's voice today For centuries, the Church understood that deep transformation requires more than sermons and self-help tips—it demands practices that restore the soul, anchor the heart, and cultivate genuine encounters with God. But today, we've traded depth for distraction. We scroll endlessly, consume information without application, and wonder why we feel spiritually exhausted. If you feel stuck in faith, weary from digital overload, or frustrated by an inability to truly heal, this conversation is for you. John is here to guide you back—not to more information, but to the kind of faith that actually changes your life. Listen now. One of the more harrowing films we've covered on the podcast (and the second film we've covered in 2024 with a memorable “gobble gobble” line), 1992's TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME was not the quirky, enjoyable plotline wrap-up fans of Twin Peaks wanted. David Lynch instead challenged the audience to identify with Laura Palmer's humanity and pain, making her a real person - not just a girl wrapped in plastic. THE FIRST OMEN director Arkasha Stevenson joins us to talk about how this film (and WILD AT HEART) inspired her to become a filmmaker, the uncanny experience of watching it without any prior knowledge of the Twin Peaks series, and the directorial choices Lynch makes that create the film's deeply unsettling atmosphere. If we told you this was the first time we'd covered a Nicolas Cage movie on the podcast - would you believe us? Well, baby - it's true. And what a movie it is! The luminous Tatiana Maslany returns to talk about David Lynch's smokin' hot outlaw romance WILD AT HEART - a film that won the Palme d'Or and took Lynch away from the set of Twin Peaks. Get ready for lots of Cage career discussion (a favorite topic of Griffin Newman), a bunch of actor speak, and multiple “hey, did you know David Lynch was a fan of the Wizard of Oz?” asides.
