Metal metal everywhere and not a drop inside my body cuz it's Tetsuo time. This week we're inspired by a new arm to finally dive into the 1989 classic experimental film Tetsuo: The Iron Man. Can we parse its mysteries? Actually, maybe yes! Maybe? But also we chat body horror, experimental film making, and mostly gush about how much we enjoyed this one. From the last video store in the universe, we're diving headfirst into the fleshscape. This is the episode where skin melts, bones twist, metal fuses, and the human form becomes… negotiable. We're ranking five of the most nightmarish entries the genre has ever produced: 1. Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989): Industrial noise. Screaming metal. The body as weapon. 2. Society (1989): The shunting heard 'round the world. 3. Body Melt (1993): Wellness culture taken to its liquifying extreme. 4. Thanatomorphose (2012): Slow, rotting decay as an art-film endurance test. 5. Possessor (2020): Cronenbergian mind/body invasion for the digital age. We break down the gore, the metaphors, the transgressions, and the sheer cinematic audacity of filmmakers who dared to ask, “What if humanity was just… obsolete?” Press play and prepare for mutation. Only one of these atrocities will survive the ranking. Credits Host: Jason Produced by: Binge Movies Franchisees: Heather, Dan, Jason, Matt, Pete Support: patreon.com/bingemovies

Today on the 5: Way WAY back in episode 35 I review the 2001 film Electric Dragon 80000v, but I had not revisited the movie since then and we selected it as one of our commentary films for the week. It ended up being a perfect pairing with Tetsuo: The Iron Man. It's an excellent example of how style over substance isn't always a bad thing!
Today on the 5: For our commentary films this week, Lando and I watched a pair of movies that feel like live action anime films. First up is a movie I couldn't believe I'd never reviewed for the show before, 1989's Tetsuo: The Iron Man. For the right viewer, this movie can feel like a belt sander to the brain in the best way.

OG co-host Carlos Cooper is back for All Horror October, and this week we're diving into Japanese horror with two wildly different films. First, Tetsuo: The Iron Man throws us into a nightmarish, industrial spiral as a man begins transforming into a grotesque fusion of flesh and metal. Then, Cure (1997) takes a slower, chilling turn, following a detective unraveling a string of murders connected by a mysterious, untraceable figure. On the beer side, we stick with our tradition of enjoying one Oktoberfest each week during All Horror October, starting with Odell Brewing's Oktoberfest. We also visit Lazarus Brewing for the first time to enjoy their Black Pearl and their Rice Lager with Maqaw Peppercorns.
It's finally time to talk about one of the most influential cult classics of all time, Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo: The Iron Man. One of the very first films we ever put on the list of episodes to cover on the show, this fever dream disguised as a movie explores themes of gender identity, sexuality, and societal expectations. Shot on a minimal budget, using practical fx as well as stop motion, this truly is a spectacle that needs to be witnessed in order to be believed!TW: self harm, violence/gore involving the human body, phallic imagery Article used in the episode by Evan Benner "Finding Racial Queer Pride in Tetsuo":https://horrorpress.com/editorials/6576/finding-radical-queer-pride-in-tetsuo-the-iron-man-1989/Be sure to sub to our Youtube channel for video episodes!Watch PsydeShow on Twitch!Join the discussion on Facebook (The Devil's Work Podcast) and Instagram/TikTok @thedevilsworkpod Email us your own reviews about the films or your thoughts on episodes at: thedevilsworkpodcast@gmail.com

In this episode, we dive into the nightmarish world of Tetsuo: The Iron Man, a groundbreaking 1989 cyberpunk horror film by Shinya Tsukamoto. Blending industrial noise, body horror, and surreal visuals, the film follows a man's grotesque transformation into a twisted hybrid of flesh and scrap metal. Join The Dale, Cea, and Twan as we discuss the movie's disturbing visuals, hyper-sexual themes, and why it remains a cult classic decades later.

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Jonathan returns in the guest seat to discuss 1989's Japanese experimental sci-fi body horror movie "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" directed, written, produced, and edited by Shinya Tsukamoto in his first first feature length film with Spoop Bois Aaron and Derek. They get into the themes or lack thereof, personal interpretations of what's happening in the movie, and how it assaults the senses. They also talk about Tsukamoto's journey to making this, the brutal experience shooting it, the practicality behind the metal prosthetics, the industrial soundtrack and many many other aspects of the film. Derek's brain will soon be metal. Aaron's future is metal. Jonathan will turn the entire world to rust! Strap in for an aural assault because we're checking out Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) for its 35th anniversary. C/W: the cat dies. This 67 minute black and white, nearly dialogue-free film is a wild and intense experience. It's also surprisingly queer! From a sexually dissatisfied hetero couple to men checking each other out during sex to M/M assimilation to jizzy fluids, it's not a reach to say the salary man and the metal fetishist are into each other. And that's without even getting into the metal dick drill of it all! References: > Evan Benner. "Finding Radical Queer Pride in ‘Tetsuo: The Iron Man' (1989)." Horror Press > Tom Mes. Michael and Abe are joined by Gamefully Unemployed's Tom Reimann to discuss the 1989 sci-fi body horror film, Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
