The horror genre exists to probe our latent fears, and the so-called "Duality of Man" has been a huge theme across so much film and literature. This week, writer and video artist Graham Williamson joins us to discuss a couple of interesting meditations on transformation and duality: Ginger Snaps (2000) directed by John Fawcett and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne (1981), directed by Walerian Borowczyk. Forget Duality of Man: what about the Duality of Woman? Or the Duality of Man and Woman and anything else we can be? We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Ginger Snaps by skipping ahead to the 1:00:09 mark, and for The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne by skipping ahead to 1:52:51. If you've seen Ginger Snaps (2000), you know it was a movie pretty much made for Spooky Tuesday — so it's kind of a shock that it's taken us this long to get around to it. But when it comes to ending the WW part of WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event), we just might have saved the best for last. On this week's episode, we're diving into the Katharine Isabelle cult classic, breaking down the social commentary exactly as Emily Perkins would've wanted, and calling out all of the cultural touch points past and future that this flick was in conversation with. This week we have a look at the 2000 horror film GingerSnaps. This is Episode #454! Ginger Snaps is a 2000 Canadian supernatural horror film directed by John Fawcett and written by Karen Walton, from a story they jointly developed. The film stars Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle as Brigitte and Ginger Fitzgerald, two morbid teenage sisters whose relationship is tested when Ginger (who has started her period for the first time) is attacked and bitten by an unknown animal, and then later, during the next full moon, slowly starts to transform into a werewolf. The supporting cast features Kris Lemche, Jesse Moss, Danielle Hampton, John Bourgeois, Peter Keleghan, and Mimi Rogers.Ginger Snaps received a limited theatrical release in May 2001. Despite modest box office receipts, the film was a critical success. It has since amassed a cult following and has been reexamined for its feminist themes. It was followed by a sequel, Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, and a prequel, Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning, which were filmed back-to-back and both released in 2004.This week's endorsements:Julia - Severance and The TraitorsTony - Warlung, Scorpion Child, Trick r Treat Non-Special-Edition Version, Gothic Slayers, Companion, The GorgeDrew - The MatronBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/castle-of-horror-podcast--4268760/support.

We're going to a land down under, as Shannon Leahy joins us to talk about her love for Australia. She reflects on growing up as a dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia and how it has shaped her life, with childhood summers in Melbourne, the unique family traditions that anchored her to the country, and the value she finds in regular, “mundane” family gatherings. Through family stories, memories of local foods, and Australian treats that hold sentimental value, Shannon expresses her gratitude for being part of a multicultural family and the joy she finds in revisiting and sharing these experiences. Plus, she also offers tips for visitors to Melbourne!Guest BioShannon Leahy (she/her) has worked at the intersection of words, strategy, design, and people for 15 years. On tonight's episode of the Apocalypse Video Gothtober Spooktacular, we travel to the Great White North, all the way to Bailey Downs, where two goth sisters have to contend with periods, horny bleacher boys, stupid cheerleader girls…and lycanthropy – it's Ginger Snaps! Ever wonder why werewolves are such a horror staple? On this episode of "The Bricked Pit," we're diving deep into the world of cinematic werewolves, exploring the myths, the movies, and everything in between. We'll trace the werewolf legend back to its roots in ancient Greece (turns out people have been afraid of turning into wolves for a long time!), and talk about how those stories have changed over time. Plus, we'll discuss how 20th-century horror classics like "The Wolf Man" shaped how we see werewolves today. Remember those awesome practical effects in "The Howling" and "An American Werewolf in London?" We'll revisit those iconic transformation scenes and talk about why they're still considered the gold standard . Of course, no discussion of werewolf movies is complete without talking about classic tropes like full moon transformations, the battle between man and beast, and those oh-so-contagious bites. We'll also dig into some of our favorite werewolf movies, including the feminist horror flick "Ginger Snaps" and the hilarious horror-comedy "Werewolves Within." So, grab your silver bullets and join us for a howling good time as we explore the wild world of werewolves on film!

“We're almost not even related anymore…” Fall is upon us and The Blind Rage Podcast is wrapping up A September of School Scares with John Fawcett's 2000 cult classic GINGER SNAPS! Sisters Ginger and Bridgitte (Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins) are teenage outcasts. On the night of a full moon, they encounter something that furthers their inclusion among their peers. Ginger is brutally attacked by an otherworldly figure and soon notices she's changing. The wounds she suffered—wounds that should be life-threatening—are already healing. Hair sprouts in the most unusual places. A tail extends from her lower back. At a time when Ginger should be transitioning from a girl to a woman, she's transitioning into something else entirely. Something very, very deadly.
