I'll do it this way. It's easier. I'll call these episodes notes. Just notes for now. It is not a shopping list, to-do list, or reminders. It's more personal, but not a journal. I'm talking with you. I also do some readings and reflections from the Bible or other books. So you might ask, who is Jan and what gets him up in the morning? What keeps him up at night? Who cares? For more context, I have been a pastor, an addict, clinically depressed, with three marriages and three divorces, not all in that order. I live as a Christian now. Of course then, we wonder, what does that mean?
A survey of Old Testament in New Testament text and support of the Seventh Day Sabbath as the only Sabbath recognized in Scripture. This is audio is extracted from a video on my YouTube channel, Voices in the Garden.
This is a full reading of Psalm 27 followed by some commentary and ending with a prayer.
Here are my notes on the book of #Daniel as a model, as a paradigm of all history and biblical prophecy. It takes up the themes of both in revealing God's sovereignty throughout history and into the prophetic future. Daniel is the foundation stone for what comes later in the Apocalypse, The Book of Revelation. It is essential to understand Daniel to understand the Apocalypse. These are notes to aid that understanding.
I just turned the recorder on and started talking, catching up from my long hiatus, offering some links to where I've been recording video, and then talking about spiritual things, about my life and some scripture. I want to do this more often, as I keep saying. Pray for me and I'll be praying for you.
This is a sermon I preached on Psalm 31 at the Richmond Kentucky Seventh-day Adventist Church, on July 29th 2023. I recorded this on my phone using a Rode lavalier mic as I was speaking from the pulpit. It has not been edited. I pray you find a blessing in Christ as you listen to God's word. O love the Lord, all you His godly ones! The Lord preserves the faithful And fully recompenses the proud doer. Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the Lord." Psalm 31.23,24
This is a sermon I preached on June 3rd, 2023 at a small Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kings Mountain, Kentucky.
Reading and comments on John 1:1-18. I hope you find a blessing in these Scriptures.
In this episode I'm reading from the text of Romans 12 and 13, along with some teaching from the scriptures and how they apply to us today. May the Lord bless you as you listen.
This is a reading of Psalm 37, a Psalm of King David. It is a reading, first of all for Sasha, a faithful listener of my podcast and my YouTube channel. A good friend, creative writer, artist, and trusted counselor.
There is a very brief glitch in this recording but I couldn't find a convenient way to cut it out. This is audio extracted from a video because of that glitch, which then desynchronized the sound with the movement of my mouth. With more technical savvy I suppose it could be fixed but I decided to save it this way, to save what I had to say about some early spiritual experience and how it relates to me today, about the presence of God in my life.
This is audio extracted from a video I made on my channel earlier today. It was about the simplicity of faith in the Christian Life.
Holiday blessings! In this episode I'll be reading from the books of Matthew, Luke, and the Book of Revelation on the incarnation of Jesus and the meaning of his birth for us. The reading in Revelation will give us an overview of the great controversy between Christ and Satan as it relates to his birth and the situation of his church today. #incarnation #jesus
In this episode I give a full reading of the book of 1st John, chapters 1 through 5. I follow that with some thoughts on one of the verses. And I close with a prayer for myself and for you. I hope you find this a blessing.

The resurrection of Jesus: Matthew 28 / A reading and reflection
This is Matthew's account of Christ crucifixion. I'm sitting in a park with this reading so there is the occasional background rumble of a vehicle and you can hear birds from time to time I think.
This is audio that I extracted from a YouTube video on my channel voices in the garden. It is an explanation of what I'm trying to accomplish on that channel that then moves into a reading and message from the Gospel of John chapter 6, a message and reading the supports the purpose of my channel and trying to reach two types of people specifically: those who are seeking for God and those who have strayed from him after having a relationship and knowledge of him. If you will have a listen I will explain myself. May the Lord bless you in the hearing as he was blessing me in the speaking.
And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; and they began to come up to Him and say, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and to give Him slaps in the face. Pilate came out again and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that I find no guilt in Him.” Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold, the Man!” So when the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him.” The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.” Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid; and he entered into the Praetorium again and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. So Pilate said to Him, “You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.” Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!” So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified. They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews'; but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.'” Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be”; this was to fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household. After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “I am thirsty.” A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. — John 19:2-30
What is love? Where is love? Will I ever be loved? How can I love like I want to be loved?
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. — Matthew 1:18-25
This is a reading from the book, Desire of Ages (by Ellen White), from the chapter, Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled. It is an exposition of John 15 and what Jesus meant by abiding in Him as the branch abides in the vine. This is full of spiritual truth that will feed the soul, old souls and young souls in Christ. It will also give meaning to the searcher of faith.
This is extracted audio from my YouTube video by the same name at, Voices in the Garden. It is a discussion of the morality to abortion from a Christian spiritual perspective, drawing inspiration from the parable of Jesus in Matthew 13, The Sower and His Seed
Another note to myself. Just a little after midnight and I'm laying in bed with some thoughts about my spiritual life, about what it means for me to be spiritual, trying to express something about Christian spirituality in my own experience.
Here is another general rumination with some thoughts added about the parable of the tenants that Jesus told.
Just a personal reflection about who I am and what I'm up to these days. Some thoughts about spiritual life and mine in particular. I hope you find it helpful. Grace and peace to you.
This is audio that I extracted from a video on my YouTube channel, Voices in the Garden. It is a 25 minute reflection on Romans 5: 1-2. I include some brief readings from the little book, Steps to Christ. May God bless you with his grace and peace.
This is a reading with some reflection on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and his walk to the village of Emmaus with two of his disciples. You can find these in Luke 24 and 25.
This is the audio version of a video from my YouTube channel, Voices in the Garden, so you will hear some reference to that effect. I'm publishing this for those who have no need to see me as they hear me. God bless.
This podcast begins with a few comments about passages I have been studying and setting of the scene for a reading which follows. The reading is from the book, The Desire of Ages, pp. 667-668. I close with a prayer.
As I was laying in bed listening to David Suchet reading in the Gospel of John I had some thoughts that I didn't want to lose. These are my notes to self.
The heart of Christian experience and theology in just a few words.
In this segment I'll be reading from the book Desire of Ages The chapter called "The Invitation", which is based upon Matthew 11:25-30. I close with just a couple of thoughts of my own. May the Lord bless you and listening as he blessed me in reading for you.
A meditation on the temptations and suffering of Jesus, the Messiah.
Here are some notes for my reading this morning in the book of Revelation regarding its overall theme and its meaning to us today.
My sister asked me to offer a few comments on the Lord's supper as she wants to have communion today. Her and her husband are having communion at home because of the restrictions of the Corona virus. I hope you each find a blessing, the blessing I found in offering these thoughts and more.
A friend has cancer. Some thoughts about dying, how some do it, and the dying goodness of the Church.
An introduction to me and what I'm up to here. Thanks for coming by and let me know what you think. A few things too about my addictions, depressions, spirituality, and occasional marriages. God had been involved.
