Jables was so excited about cinemas reopening, he started a podcast with his sister! Join Jables and Our Kid for film reviews, news and opinions, as well as insights from Producer Ben. Recorded straight after viewing for an immediate reaction. We are based in North West Norfolk and for screenings you can normally find us at the Majestic Cinema, King's Lynn.
A little late to the party but we're hanging out with the Thunderbolts* this week, which is...err...fine. Our Kid also catches us up on her recent Regency Revival, whilst Jables starts in on series 2 of Andor.
It may be third time we've talked about Hellraiser, but there are still plenty of fresh thoughts to note as we catch it on the big screen for the first time.
It's Purge Week in King's Lynn (also known as the school holidays), so we're staying in to watch something that's been on our watchlist for a while. Also Our Kid is catching up on The Outrun and Producer Ben is taking us back to the 90s with Event Horizon.
A game of Statham Bingo ensues this week to ensure A Working Man hits all the right beats (it does!). We're also talking about Alan Moore's The Show and looking forward to Retro Reels Hellraiser.
A slow burn spy thriller that's not quite as action packed as the trailer suggests, but may be the better for it. Plus Producer Ben finally gets his hands on Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Just No Jables this week as we head to the Corn Exchange for a dose of 80s feelgood fantasy.
Despite being a bit too long and a bit too bloated, we quite enjoyed this week's offering. We're also talking about Series 3 of Reacher (so far), British indie-horror Stop Motion and revisiting last year's Civil War.
We're streaming again this week and Jables finally learns how it all got so quiet. We're also taking about the Oscars 2025 and, if you're a Jerry Maguire fan, Our Kid would like to know why.
Can comedy and horror co-exist in a smart indie film that says something about the nature of life and death, or will it always just be schlock? We can't quite agree this week. We've also finally got round to watching Conclave but Jables wishes he'd missed out on You're Cordially Invited.
A likeable cast can't save this messy multi-sequel, but at least Producer Ben was spared. We're also talking about Elevation and Your Monster on Amazon Prime and Jables finally gets round to watching Gladiator 2.
There's a slight retro-ness to this week as we review what we missed in the recent past with Twisters, Venom: The Last Dance and finishing the latest season of Strike. But we do have one eye to the future with trailers for the new Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*.
A slow burn ghost story that's probably not for everyone, this week's choice is a good counterpoint to last week's Retro Reels. We're also comparing music biopics with Better Man and Back to Black.
We're back in the light for another 80s classic, probably the first horror film we ever saw - though it's much funnier and more heartfelt than we remember.
An enjoyable throwback to last year that makes up in visuals what it lacks in narrative subtlety. Also enjoying our latest DVD purchases and reviewing the new series of From.
We're back, and so is the classic vampire flick! We're also looking back over our festive wish lists to review our Christmas viewing and Producer Ben is going old-school British drama with Smiley's People.
It's that time of year again when we grab a Radio Times and talk about what we'll be watching over the festive break. Enjoy and see you next in 2025!
Another short episode this week as we're Just No Jables, so Our Kid and Producer Ben review the programme of the 2024 King's Lynn Film Festival and talk about some of the films they watched.
A short episode this week to talk about what we've been watching, including Ready or Not on Netflix. Also looking forward to the King's Lynn Film Festival, info via https://www.klfilmfestival.uk/
A likeable oddity this week, not quite as funny or coherent as we would have liked but still a decent night in. Were also talking about Paddington in Peru and Last Night in Soho, as well as reflecting on Late Night with the Devil. Again.
A theological game of cat and mouse divides the team and leads Jables to a couple of rants. Which is worse - talking in the cinema or misplaying classic songs?
With Our Kid and Producer Ben off on their Halloween holidays, Jables has roped in Barney for a film that might even be too scary for Jables. Also Barney is catching up on True Detective and Jables resuscitates Bubba Ho-Tep.
That's what we want to see, a nice big smile! Mixed views on this week's horror sequel, though there's no doubting it's a well acted, beautiful spectacle. We're also talking about series 2 of The Devil's Hour and Netflix' It's What's Inside.
Ahoy mateys! Back to the Corn Exchange for a viewing and a chat about one of our favourite underrated classics, plus a visit from a special guest.
What do you get when you take a quietly powerful, successful film about a tragic descent into chaos, strip it of plot, character, and empathy, and replace it with a few lacklustre musical numbers? A tragedy for all the wrong reasons.
While we can see all the flaws, this latest attempt to reboot the lovable Hellspawn is really a good B-movie horror that would benefit from better marketing. We're also talking about the BBC comedy Ludwig, plus this week's 'DVD from a charity shop' is In the Name of the King (which no amount of good marketing could have saved!).
The snarky hosting and terrible artwork can mean only one thing - it's time for the third annual Jables Awards! Join us as we discuss the highs and lows of the past year in cinema.
It's showtime! Back to Corn Exchange for the original and best, because there's just so much to love about the disgusting Ghost with the Most.
Not nearly as fun or exciting as we needed it to be, the sequel to the 80s classic falls decidedly flat. Fortunately we're looking forward to the original Beetlejuice for Retro Reels next week, as well as hitting the 70s with Harold and Maude and discovering Kaos on Netflix.
A little late to the party this week as we get to the latest film in the sci-fi horror franchise. Not a surprise party, though... Jables is also reliving his time in The Village through 60s series The Prisoner and we're looking forward to the original Beetlejuice for Retro Reels.
Just No Jables again this week so we're bearing Longlegs in mind to choose something from the writer/director's back catalogue. Also Day of the Jackal and One Life.
In a change to this week's plan, we've gone for the Arthouse option at the Corn Exchange. We're also talking about Arcadian and series 4 of Emily in Paris. 0.36 Recap last week (Deadpool & Wolverine, plus Sky Peels) 4.31 What we're on about 10.42 Initial thoughts on Longlegs 16.17 Review of Longlegs 39.23 Next week
It's Just No Jables this week as Producer Ben and Our Kid take a trip to Curzon Bloomsbury to see the debut feature of local filmmaker Moin Hussain.
Everyone knows there can be only one. Except for the sequels. And a possible remake. For now it's back to the Corn Exchange for Retro Reels so that we can talk all things Highlander.
Back from our summer holidays with a bang this week as we try to get to the bottom of why Producer Ben doesn't find Deadpool as funny as everyone else does. 0.43 Recap last week (Maxxxine) 4.00 What we're on about/Looking forward to Retro Reels (Highlander) 7.40 Initial thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine 19.44 Review of Deadpool & Wolverine 45.00 Trailers and next week
We're much more excited for this week's X follow-up having watched prequel Pearl at the weekend. We're also talking about Immaculate, Supacell and the little known phenomenon of ass twins. 0.40 Recap last week (Two Tickets to Greece) 3.10 What we're on about (Immaculate, Joker/The Batman, Supacell) 10.32 Initial thoughts on Maxxxine 21.04 Review of Maxxxine 37.33 Trailers and next week
You know why we're here? To talk about Pulp Fiction of course. We happy? Yeah, we happy.
We're going all cultured this week with a film that we didn't all realise was in French until quite late on. There's also a bit of Shakespeare and some Freud but, don't worry, Jables can always lower the tone! 0.46 Recap last week (The Watched) 3.42 What we're on about (Chinatown, Macbeth, Freud's Last Session) 16.25 Initial thoughts on Two Tickets to Greece 21.48 Review of Two Tickets to Greece 33.11 Next week
Called The Watchers outside the UK, this week's film has a lot to like but can't quite break out of the box. We're also looking forward to Retro Reels Pulp Fiction. 1.00 What we're on about (300, Retro Reels) 11.35 Initial thoughts on The Watched 23.53 Review of The Watched 45.29 Trailers and next week
With no new films on at the cinema and nothing we fancy on streaming, we look ahead to what's coming up over the summer 2024.
Back to disappointment this week as two Mad Max fans and a reluctant fence-dweller dream of what might have been. 0.58 Recap last time (In the Land of Saints and Sinners) 4.10 What we're on about (Watchmen, Fallout recap, The Fall Guy) 9.48 Initial thoughts on Furiosa 19.33 Review of Furiosa 44.57 Next week
Following couple of weeks' break we're back at the Corn Exchange for our favourite 80s space panto, and it's even funnier than we remember!
Hitting Netflix for something new this week. We're also on about Retro Reels and pondering Dead Boy Detectives. 1.30 Recap last week (Abigail) 4.10 What we're on about (Retro Reels, Glass, Dead Boy Detectives) 11.17 Initial thoughts on In the Land of Saints and Sinners 16.14 Review of In the Land of Saints and Sinners 32.53 Next week
We wish we'd known a bit less about this week's offering going in (Marketing Team, take note!), but overall we all enjoy this gory romp. We're also on about Expendables 4 and Jables gives his final thoughts on Fallout, as well as announcing the next Retro Reels. 0.33 Recap last week (Civil War) 06.10 What we're on about 12.17 Initial thoughts on Abigail 18.38 Retro Reels announcement 20.02 Review of Abigail 38.23 Trailers and next week
Despite its visual highs, we find it hard to care much about this week's surprisingly weightless offering. At least we have Producer Ben scaling Dante's Peak in his 'DVD from a charity shop' segment, whilst Our Kid explores a time loop with River and Jables praises Fallout. 0.43 Recap last week (Monkey Man) 4.13 River 6.27 DVD from a charity shop 11.15 Fallout 14.54 Initial thoughts on Civil War 24.21 Review of Civil War 47.42 Trailers and next week
We can't agree on everything about this film, but the general consensus is overwhelmingly positive - go and see it! We're also talking about all the classic DVDs we've watched this week. 1.16 Charity shop DVD classics 4.57 Recap last week (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) 11.47 Initial thoughts on Monkey Man 17.00 Review of Monkey Man 37.45 Trailers and next week
All right sweethearts, what are you waiting for? It's time to invade the Corn Exchange for another glorious day in the Corps. No timings this week, it's all about our favourite sequel.
Can the latest in the Ghostbusters franchise bring the same surprising charm as Afterlife? Hmm... Jables is also talking about Gladiator in anticipation of the sequel and Our Kid is excited about the teaser trailer for Beetlejuice 2. 0.33 Recap last week (Spaceman) 3.09 Looking forward to Retro Reels Labyrinth 4.57 Gladiator 7.56 Beetlejuice 2 trailer 10.25 Initial thoughts on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 15.17 Review of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 42.27 Trailers and next week
With nothing new on the big screen we hit the small screen for Netflix's Spaceman and find ourselves surprisingly charmed. Also Our Kid reviews Scrapper and Producer Ben has a good old fashioned rant about Ford v Ferrari. 0.49 Recap last week (Imaginary) 3.30 Ford v Ferrari 7.10 Looking forward to Retro Reels Aliens 7.57 Scrapper 9.47 Initial thoughts on Spaceman 16.55 Review of Spaceman 34.27 Next week
Some flawed fun this week as we follow Chauncey Bear into the fantastical world of a child's imagination to find it looks more like an Elm Street dream sequence. We're also reviewing this week's Oscar winners and hitting Producer Ben's vintage DVD collection. 0.51 Recap last week (Dune Part 2) 4.15 Yes Minister 5.32 Oscars 2024 Review 8.20 Looking forward to Retro Reels (Aliens) 9.04 Initial thoughts on Imaginary 15.21 Review of Imaginary 29.02 Trailers and next week
No one is more excited than Producer Ben to get the second instalment of his favourite franchise, and it's more good news! Also, Our Kid announces the upcoming Retro Reels title and Jables has a grumble about talking in cinemas (if you do it, please stop). 0.47 Recap last week (Madam Web) 3.09 Retro Reels announcement 4.28 Freelance 6.27 Wicked Little Letters 10.55 Initial thoughts on Dune Part 2 17.26 Review of Dune Part 2 47.59 No trailers (but Jables has a grumble) and next week
Our hopes of a good swim against the tide are dashed when we find that the latest Sony Spiderman Universe feature really does have very little to redeem it. At least we have our mini review of independent found footage folk horror DAGR (even if Our Kid didn't fare so well with it...). 0.38 Recap last week (The Iron Claw) 3.12 DAGR 8.52 Avatar: The Last Airbender 11.36 Initial thoughts on Madam Web 18.34 Review of Madam Web 39.46 Trailers and next week
