Apoie o RdM e receba recompensas exclusivas: https://apoia.se/rdmCITADOS NO PROGRAMA:Ninfomaníaca – Volume 2 (2013)O Sobrevivente (2015)Evereste (2015)A Cura (2016)O Segredo de Marrowbone (2017)High Life: Uma Nova Vida (2018)Suspiria (2018)Emma (2020)Mayday (2021)X – A Marca da Morte (2022)Pearl (2022)The House (2022)Piscina Infinita (2023)Maxxxine (2024)Frankenstein (2025)A Odisseia (2026)Star Wars: Starfighter (2027)Citações off topic:Melancolia (2011)O Chamado (2002)Mickey 17 (2025)Emma (1996)Rivais (2024)O Menu (2022)A Colina Escarlate (2015)Ilha do Medo (2010)Lars von Trier — “I understand Hitler…”EPISÓDIOS CITADOS:RdMCast #232 – Ilha do Medo: o Horror em ScorseseRdMCast #322 – Embate Horror Japonês: O Chamado X O GritoRdMCast #409 – 7 ótimos filmes de horror no espaçoRdMCast #382 – Saga Crepúsculo (feat. HORROR-IKONEN gesucht. Clayton Farris is an Actor. He's a comedian, a filmmaker, a content creator, a great guy… and… he most of all is an Actor dedicated to being the Best Actor he can possibly be. Clayton is a long-time member of the BGB Studio, and Risa has had the privilege of working with him here and watching him work hard and grow brilliantly. His fellow BGB actors adore him, as does she. Risa and Clayton talk about his path and his process here on The Acting Podcast.Ok, so more on Clayton's career… Clayton recently had a breakout role in Weapons, the new Warner Bros. mystery/thriller. The film opened August 8 to a box office debut that surpassed both Fantastic Four and Freaky Friday, following its ultra-rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score—a distinction only one other horror film has ever achieved. Clayton's standout performance has been making waves online, sparking strong reactions from viewers. In Weapons, he plays Terry, the husband to Andrew (Benedict Wong)—a pivotal, scene-stealing role that marks a defining moment in his career.Clayton's previous credits span standout genre projects across horror and comedy, including American Horror Story, Ratch-ed, The Morning Show, and most recently, the hit A24 slasher MaXXXine. He has recurred on Seal Team. Clayton has also built a robust digital presence through his witty, relatable sketch comedy—writing and starring in videos that consistently rack up millions of views. Fans have affectionately dubbed him the “Larry David of TikTok” for his dry delivery, social spiral moments, and knack for turning everyday discomfort into something deeply funny and deeply relatable. We love his videos and he's shot some of them here at BGB, where nobody is safe from wildly funny and ultimately affectionate spoofing, even Risa! Check a few out here on the website page/show notes!  A longtime Los Angeles–based actor and writer, Clayton has spent 17 years in Hollywood honing his signature blend of grounded performances and sharp comedic timing. In real life, he identifies as bisexual and is in a long-term relationship with actress Laura Schein. His perspective as both a left of center content creator and a working actor navigating the shifting entertainment landscape makes him a uniquely thoughtful and funny voice. Clayton is having a moment! And he has recently booked an exciting role on a highly anticipated new Apple TV show, which is no accident. Risa and Clayton talk about this moment and how it came to be. So have a listen, enjoy, and let us know how this sparks your own creative and professional journey! More On RisaMore On SteveSubscribe! Based in Los Angeles, California, F. Ron Miller has designed numerous movie posters and title sequences, as well as an impressive number of covers for The Criterion Collection, who releases important classic and contemporary films. Ron's always been a big fan of The Bad and the Beautiful, starring Kirk Douglas, Lana Turner, and Elaine Stewart. It tells the story of a ruthless producer played by Kirk Douglas, who works tirelessly to reach the top of the Hollywood system with no care for how others get left in the dust. We also talk about movies that are about making movies, David Lynch, Citizen Kane, as well as imposter syndrome, how designers work, design magazines, design culture, and design history.-F. Now that Adrien Brody has finally wrapped up his acceptance speech, we can bring you Episode 59 of Vintage Sand. And since it's March, and the Oscars just passed, we're right on time with our annual year-end review, which we call 2024: The Year of the Brutal. As seems to be the case over the last few years, we came away from the year in film with mixed feelings. The interesting thing is that we did not seem to agree on any of the major films of the year. Mike and I liked "Anora" a lot, and John did not. We also both liked "Emilia Pérez", which John actively disliked. John and I liked Garland's "Civil War", which Mike didn't like at all. John liked "The Brutalist", and Mike and I were underwhelmed. I was alone in loving both "Nosferatu" and "The Substance". Mike and John liked "Conclave" and "A Complete Unknown", both of which I found kind of conventional despite outstanding performances. And so on. It makes it difficult to come to a consensus on the year, but it makes, as you will hear, for an excellent episode; after all, what could be more boring than when the three of us agree? As for the Oscars themselves, we were pleasantly surprised at how good Conan was, and pleasantly not surprised how good the opening number from "Wicked" was. We were relieved at the absence of Malala vs. Cocaine Bear audience schtick (minus Adam Sandler), surprised at the politics-free nature of the evening, appalled at the James Bond “tribute”, amazed at how young Mick Jagger looks, and, as ever, disappointed in the In Memoriam section. And while we appreciated the Gene Hackman and Quincy Jones tributes, we were shocked that nothing special was done for David Lynch (something we plan to remedy in our next episode). Good on Sean Baker for winning four statuettes for "Anora", yet continuing puzzlement as to why Denis Villeneuve, among the greatest world-builders currently directing, can't seem to get nominated for films that all seem to get nominated for Best Picture. In considering our eternal question of which of these films will be watched by anyone in 25 years, let alone show up the Sight and Sound poll in 2032, I can only imagine that "Anora" and "Nosferatu", in the contexts of their respective directors' careers, might make the cut. It seems slightly possible that the Dylan film, "Conclave" and "The Brutalist" might have some legs as well, but it's less likely. For me, 2024 will always stand out as the year featuring women in films that were social commentaries in the context of the horror genre ("The Substance", "Maxxxine", and "Blink Twice" being among the best examples). It suggests that a kind of brutality, often directed at women though not exclusively, has crept into American film, as it seems to have done in American life itself. So we urge you, intrepid listeners, to support the arts and humanities, go to movies in theaters, and keep fighting the good fight.

In a landscape littered with bad sequels and reboots, it was a challenge to seek out the very best end movies of a series. Often times, a successful series only ends because the films stop making money, usually because the quality has diminished dramatically and the audience moves on. In the best scenarios, filmmakers have a defined vision that is completed or they don't want to repeat themselves and dilute their own art. Jerry & Matt look at two films that closed out series and did so on a high note with Army of Darkness from 1992 and MaXXXine from 2024.

MaXXXine is the ending to a trilogoy we welcomed but didn't ask for, and it almost took the director from Ti West to You Tried West.   Luckily, Pearl and X are just so strong that it pretty much makes MaXXXine the 3rd Back to the Future film.  A film that's just as far from worthless as it is from worth it, mainly due to a nothing new here story, an unearned reveal, but still somehow a variety of perfectly casted supporting role performances.  MaXXXine gets so many things right yet still does nothing to push the genre forward.  Streaming now on Youtube, Apple TV, FandangoAtHome, Amazon Video, etc ♦♦   Director:  Ti West Writers:  Ti West Starring: Mia Goth, Kevin Bacon, Sophie Thatcher, Moses Sumney Runtime:  1 Hour 44 Minutes Synopsis: A porn star lands her first big Hollywood break while being black mailed by a dirtbag PI who knows her dark X past, and stalked by an L.A. serial killer murdering everyone close to her.    Like what you hear? Sophie Thatcher Interview: Making A24's Heretic & What to Expect from Yellowjackets Season 3

What Sophie Thatcher's managed to accomplish in recent years, in general, is downright phenomenal. But, as someone who proudly dubs horror her #1, I can't help but be especially excited about how Thatcher's solidified herself as a dominant force in the genre. Soon after Yellowjackets proved Thatcher was an all-around powerhouse when it debuted in late 2021, she scored the lead role in Rob Savage's big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Boogeyman, became a part of Ti West's X trilogy via MaXXXine, and now she stars opposite Hugh Grant and Chloe East in A24's latest release, Heretic. The wickedly sharp and chilling feature stars Thatcher and East as Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, two young missionaries who are busy ringing doorbells in suburban Colorado. Trouble is, on this day, they ring the wrong one. When Grant's Mr. Reed welcomes them inside, they think it's an opportunity to get out of the rain while also telling him all about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, little do they know, Mr. Reed is well versed in their religion and others, and he's determined to rock their beliefs to the core. With Heretic hitting theaters nationwide, Thatcher joined me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to chat about her wonderfully horror-heavy path in film and television thus far. She looks back on that heartbreaking Yellowjackets Season 2 finale and discusses how it impacted her Season 3 performance. She also breaks down her experience working opposite Grant and East in Heretic to create a pitch-perfect lead trio for the film. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Need a break from political programming? Well, today we have a special treat: It's The Free Press's scary movie Halloween special! It's that time of year: changing leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, animal costumes with sex appeal and, of course, gory, bloody, nightmare-inducing horror movies. We all remember the first horror movie that we were allowed to watch—or maybe that we weren't allowed to watch, but saw anyway: Silence of the Lambs, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, The Blair Witch Project, Jaws, Carrie, Halloween, or The Shining. For today's host Suzy Weiss, it was 20 minutes of the movie It—the TV miniseries from 1990, not the 2017 remake. Suzy remembers seeing Pennywise the Clown on the screen and thinking, This will take me years to get over. She still sometimes checks the drain! Year after year, horror movies are consistently profitable—more so than dramas—but they are snubbed when it comes to award shows and critical acclaim. But here at The Free Press, we value and love horror, so much that we've gathered our scariest FP writers—Suzy Weiss, River Page, and Kat Rosenfield—to analyze four new horror movies. River, Kat, and Suzy will review MaXXXine, set in grimy and glamorous 1980s Hollywood, about a night killer who targets a porn star who herself is targeting big-screen stardom. Apartment 7A, a prequel to Rosemary's Baby, about a woman taken in by an unassuming family. Longlegs, a serial killer story about an FBI agent trying to crack the case. And The Substance, about a woman who takes the latest anti-aging elixir, but at a harrowing cost. They talk about what they loved, what they hated, and how they think each movie relates to our current social ills. We'll also note this episode has spoilers, so let this be a warning! Happy Halloween, folks! If you liked what you heard from Honestly, the best way to support us is to go to TheFP.com and become a Free Press subscriber today. Learn more about your ad choices.
