Movies neither of us have seen, one of us have seen, or both of us have seen but we want to talk about anyway. Every Tuesday, every week. Don’t be late!
Here it is. Jake took a bullet for this one. And it wasn't as bad the second time. This is just a fun light-hearted movie, and it is super fun to trash too, much to the chagrin of the boys' girlfriends. Much discussion is made, and it goes down a few different avenues. Virgins beware, this episode will be a bunch of hocus pocus.
It's spooky season yall! We are doing a Dracula Double Feature Dawg! Dracula (1931) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), suck it, Jon. Reviewing the old spooks with the new spooks. And just saying, Jon wasn't a huge fan. But you decide what you like as the listener. Watch these movies, and then listen to the podcast. You might chuckle, you might giggle, and you may suck out the blood of living things for sustenance.
A movie highly anticipated by Jake leaves Jon homicidal. What..? This is a first in a while of movies neither of the boys have seen. It's too bad neither of them liked it all that much too. Great cast, great setting, great ideas, but this movie was, to be honest... Why don't you just listen to Jon and Jake talk it out.
B A B Y, Baby Driver. What a neat little flick, huh? This was a great watch. Jake's first time, Jon's third. A little miscommunication and misunderstanding is heard but it never hurts the movie. They discuss Kevin Spacey, tunes, and air guitar. This is an episode you will want to turn your headphones up for.
Gee golly! This is one of Jake's favorites. You can tell because the podcast is coming out a week late!!! Sorry, the producer here at Late To The Show really sucks. Anyway, the boys don't even have to discuss if the movie was good or not, but just focus on what makes the movie so good. A lot of style and uniqueness packed into one two-hour 1970s TV remake by Guy Ritchie; and for some reason nobody know about the movie.
Wow, A lot of reading for this movie. Good movie though! It's hard to believe that sweet mama's boy would become a Nazi someday though... Jake and Jon jump on this German film that takes place from 1989-1990, and have a decent discussion about it. Diversions are made, but what do you expect. It can be unusual deep diving on a foreign film, because there is a little nuance lost when you don't understand the language. You do what you can with subtitles and even then the boys both enjoyed this movie. They hope you enjoy the podcast.
Woah! Double feature dude! Check out this podcast. Funny times. No playing around. Okay, a little.
Finally did it. Jake finally watched the god damn movie. Not like he was supposed to two weeks ago. But whatever, Jon's not mad. Here they go, finally talking about this weird, unusual, interesting film. The talk covers Snowpiercer's origin, comments about the film, where they thought it was going to go, ideas for how it could be different and also, gmail? Step up Google, you don't have that much on your plate! Anyway, here is the episode that was promised.
Well, Jake f*cked up. You were supposed to be listening to a Snow Piercer episode, but Jake couldn't make it happen because he is a garbage person. Now Jon and Jake are just going to talk about themselves instead. It may not be entertaining but it is content. Jon and Jake also talk about their short film they are working on and some of the previous versions, as well as what they would like to do for the podcast going forward. Sorry again but give this episode a listen if you're curious at all about what makes the children tick.
We spent all week cooking up fun shit, little fun events for you listeners and we came up with a Superbad podcast. Twelve years... This movie is twelve years old. IF you watch it for any reason just watch it and try to comprehend the ages of all the actors when the movie came out. Still a great movie by the way and one of Jake's favorites. Even Jon is a believer now. Its an original movie based on an unoriginal premise, that is still hilarious twelve years later. The only thing that doesn't hold up is flip phones.
Are you watching closely? No stupid, you're listening. Unless you are watching on YouTube, but that is just a still frame so go do something else while you listen you apes. Where was I? Right! The Prestige. Hot dog this was a neato movie. Jake hadn't seen it because he is lame but Jon invited him to the show. The conversation is about magic, cinema, lost fingers and fan theories. Give it a listen. Or sacrifice your twin brother and kill your rival and proceed to raise your daughter.
Here's Part 2. Check it fools. This is officially our longest episode. Enjoy! Back to the norm next week, Don't Be Late!
Sometimes you just need a change of pace. This week Jon and Jake get refreshed by only talking about the stuff they like. On This episode Jon and Jake talk about what they consider to be a perfect movie and they list some of their perfect movies. It's not as douchey as it sounds. This episode was so much fun recording it had to be recorded into two separate parts. Have a listen and stay tuned next week for the second half. The boys may try to do more list episodes like this in the future if you enjoy it.
A week off for this? Yep. We have brought you a podcast for Evil Dead 2. Why the second one? It's a long story that we talk about on the podcast. We have special guest Nick Rosenbloom on once again, and someone almost gets slapped. This was a fun talk that, as a typical LTTS episode would go, strays from the movie we've watched. You gotta listen to this one just because it's... groovy.
Good morning. In less than a couple of seconds, you and others from around the world will be listening to our Independence Day podcast. And you will be laughing at the longest rambling in this history of mankind. Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps its fate that tomorrow is the 4th of July, and you will once again be listening to bullshit, not a Ted talk, philosophy, or high-level content -- but our voices. We're fighting for our right to listen, to enjoy podcasts. And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: 'We will not forget to rate and review Late To The Show Podcast! We will not vanish without a 'Like'! We're going to listen on! We're going to subscribe!' Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!
A happy coincidence that we watched this movie in Pride Month, this was a great new find. The Birdcage starring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Gene Hackman is a hilarious movie from 1996 that takes place mostly in and above a drag-queen nightclub in South Beach, Florida. It's hard to believe we had never heard of this one before, but luckily we had special guest and Jon's girlfriend Molly Markely. This podcast was a lot of fun and only went off the rails a bunch of times. Hope you enjoy!
Recognize these voices? It's Jon and Jake and this week they are talking about the documentary I Know That Voice written by and made about Voice Actors. All the familiar voices we all know from our childhoods and anything animation we all hold dear. Take a listen and watch this movie. Is bueno. Both of them. Do it. NOW!
K-i-i-i-i-i... M-a-a-a-a-a... P-o-o-o-o-d... C-a-a-a-s-t... Friday the 13th Podcast. DOUBLE FEATURE. For us anyway. This week we get Jake's girlfriend and resident Friday the 13th savant, Kate Johnson on the podcast and we look at the original Friday the 13th, as well as the 2009 Friday the 13th. We though about waiting until the next Friday the 13th to do this one, but hey, its time for summer camp. Pretty mellow conversation but fun for sure. Check it out.
The Godfather. Some regard it as being the best piece of cinema, but Jake hadn't seen it. Until now. Special guest on the Podcast this week is Jordan Reader or @grizzlybeardman on Instagram. The discussion was pretty loose but a lot of fun. Reach into the fridge, get some gabagool, sit back, and listen.
Well, guess what. We actually did it. You can call us maniacs, but we sat down in this madhouse of a recording space, and damn it all to hell, we went to the forbidden zone to do a Planet of the Apes podcast. 1968 really feels like 2000 years ago doesn't it? Hope you enjoy it. Believe me, there are plenty more "ape puns" in the actual movie, but we're sorry for abusing them ourselves. You know what they say: "Human see, Human do."
Getting back in the stride of things with this podcast folks. A very natural and enjoyable conversation between Jon and Jake this week. This week, is Stranger Than Fiction. This is a movie most people may be Late To The Show for, but it happens to be one of Jake's favorite movies. Jake actually recently spoke about it a little more briefly on another podcast called "The Scene That Got You" with friend Dillon Hatcher. Listen to that here: https://spoti.fi/2K1loU2. Will Ferrel, Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, and... the guys from the Sonic commercials? Lots to unpack, lots to listen to, and lots to love. Little did you know, not listening to this episode may result in your imminent death.
What We Do in the Shadows is a movie.
We're back! And without any request. Sorry for the sick day last week, but we've recovered and we bring you Men In Black. The 1997 hit which started the series, based off of a comic written by Lowell Cunningham. This was a first see for Jake, and he did not hate it. We talk about the actors, the Oscar winning makeup, the CGI, but most importantly, what too Jake so long to see it. Have a listen and enjoy.
We welkome our sekond guest ever, Nick Rosenbloom, to diskuss the abomination that is Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. And like Happy Gilmore before this, we have another beautiful koincidence in that Mortal Kombat 11 launches today, so what better way to celebrate the newest installment in this franchise, with what is quite possibly the worst moment in all of Mortal Kombat history. In addition to our wonderful guest and the inkredible timing of the release of this podkast, we are also debuting our new theme music. Pretty kool, huh?
In honor of the Masters Tournament, we discuss that greatest of golf based movies, Happy Gilmore. We're just kidding about this being in honor of The Masters by the way, it just happened to work out that way. But it is our 10th episode! So that's something to celebrate!
This week, Jon and Jake discuss the Coen Brothers classic The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges as the Dude, as he navigates the world's most bizarre case of mistaken identity. Once again, it's one Jon hasn't seen, but that running theme really ties the show together.
Special Episode! In light of the MK11 Beta koming out, we decided to release an episode where Jon and Jake hook up with special guest Nick Laudicina and talk about an ideal Kast for a new Mortal Kombat movie. Big ideas, big actors, and big Kombos. Who you you put in a Mortal Kombat movie. Anyone can be Korrect.
Clerks! The first feature film by Kevin Smith. A classic and a need-to-see by film fans. A comedic "day in the life" film surrounding a young adult lost in his own life, coming into work on his day off. Why did Jon and Jake miss it? Maybe they were somewhere they weren't even supposed to be that day. Get it?
This week Jon and Jake talk about their first documentary. An LTTS first. "The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?" is a film about a film that never was. Is that meta enough? There was an idea... for a Superman movie to capatalize on a popular comic book where Superman dies in the 90's. And just as the boots were getting put on, the cape had to be hung up. No Superman movie. This documentary goes to the people responsible for every facet of the film, good and bad. Do you wish this movie was made? We sure do. Have a listen.
Holy flashback. Today Jon and Jake look at a movie from their childhoods, Pokemon: The First Movie! This is one both have seen, but definitely required some revisiting. If you aren't going to catch 'em all, at least catch this episode, because the nostalgia is real.
Ready? FIGHT! This week Jon and Jake discuss the Mortal Kombat movie. Probably one of the biggest video game spawned films! Looking at the art, casting, characters and plot, it's hard to see why this movie hasn't held up over the years... then again... This is an old favorite for Jon and a new experience for Jake, so listen to their discussion. It's bound to be "toasty".
This week Jon and Jake discuss Creed. The seventh sequel in the Rocky franchise. This is a bit of a departure from the point of the podcast but hey, Creed II was topical when we recorded it. Creed II will be out on bluray here shortly though, so there's that. Have a listen!
This week Jon and Jake look at Primal Fear. An early movie in Edward Norton's career, also starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, and the #Late, John Mahoney. This was a film favorite for Jake and Jon had only just watched it. Lets hear what Jon had to say about it.
Jon and Jake discuss the 1978 film Halloween. This recording predates the release of the sequel in 2018. An interesting look back in time to what film making was and the way horror was portrayed on the silver screen. An Iconic slasher flick is rediscovered by two who seen it a little later in life.
