A new podcast episode of "Sound Speed Action," a review episode on the movie "In The Grey" (2026), is now available everywhere you get your podcasts!Episode 68 – Review: In The Grey (2026)Guy Ritchie movies are special. There is always something fun about them. I got hooked with the one-two punch that opened his career, "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch", and I have followed him ever since. The phases of Ritchie:The amazing start: "Lock Stock" and "Snatch".Veering off course (the Madonna era): "Swept Away" (yikes, not Ritchie).Finding his way back: "Revolver" and "Rocknrolla".There he is!: "Sherlock Holmes", "Aladdin", and "The Gentlemen". Now he is everywhere, also making shows like "MobLand" and "Young Sherlock". But spreading himself thin has recently produced fun yet troubled movies."In The Grey"Pros: Eiza Gonzalez is the most fun thing here, full of charisma, not phoning it in. The action and that kinetic, slapstick Ritchie energy are intact. The understated Chris Benstead score adds to it, and the locations are fantastic.Cons: Gyllenhaal and Cavill are dialed way down, so the tough guys never feel human. That ties into the bigger problem: the protagonists never feel in real danger, the third straight Ritchie film with that issue. The courts get manipulated so easily that nothing pushes back, so there are no stakes. The on-screen scribble text is overused to hide the gaps, and the ending, hurt by reshoots that never happened, just abruptly drops."In The Grey" hits rental everywhere June 2nd (it was in theaters May 15...

Because if movies have taught us anything, it's that people should really stop ignoring obvious warning signs.TV keeps the momentum rolling this week as the Yellowstone universe expands once again with Dutton Ranch. At this point, Taylor Sheridan might genuinely own more fictional land than some real governors, but DONMEGA checks in with first impressions to see whether this latest spin-off keeps the franchise momentum alive. And over on Netflix, The Crash enters the documentary conversation, digging into the story behind the headlines and aiming to become the latest true-story obsession for streaming audiences. DONMEGA breaks down whether the docuseries actually delivers the depth people are looking for or just rides the wave of internet curiosity.Action, horror, documentaries, spin-offs, and enough streaming content to destroy your sleep schedule, Grey Area Obsession delivers another week of sharp takes, veteran insight, and just enough sarcasm to keep things grounded.

Gyllenhaal e Cavill in perfetta sintonia.

IN THE GREY, Guy Ritchie's brand-new spy-action movie, just dropped—and Dan and Tom from SpyMovieNavigator are breaking it all down with zero spoilers. A covert team of elite extraction specialists is sent on a high-stakes mission to recover a stolen billion-dollar fortune from a ruthless tyrant. The question the hosts tackle first: is this actually a spy movie? And then they get to: Is it any good? The cast is stacked. Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill headline as operatives Bronco and Sid, joined by Eiza González, Rosamund Pike, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens, and Jason Wong. Ed Wild handled cinematography, reuniting much of the team behind The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Dan and Tom walk through storytelling, pacing, action choreography, casting performances, and set design. They weigh the strengths against the weak spots—and there are a few of both. Ritchie claims the movie is based on a true story, which adds an intriguing layer to the mission's premise. If you love spy cinema—from Bond to Mission: Impossible—this no-spoilers first look gives you everything you need before you hit the theater. FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ·       Directed by Guy Ritchie — the creative force behind Operation Fortune, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. ·       Claimed to be based on a true story — Ritchie says the extraction mission depicted in the movie is rooted in real events. ·       A tight 97-minute runtime — the movie moves fast, using narration and on-screen graphics to pack the story into under two hours. ·       Carlos Bardem steals scenes as villain Manny Salazar — brother of Javier Bardem (Skyfall's Silva), he delivers a standout performance. ·       Not connected to The Gray Man series — despite the similar title, IN THE GREY (with an "E") is a completely separate movie and franchise.   Tell us what you think: Is IN THE GREY a movie you'll go see? It's Friday, which means Adam Holtz from Plugged In is back to help you figure out what's actually worth watching — and what to skip. This week: Remarkably Bright Creatures, a quiet, thoughtful drama starring Sally Field as a grieving cleaning woman whose best confidant is a sentient, dying octopus named Marcellus. It's warm, it's mostly clean, and it is absolutely not a kids movie despite the talking sea creature. Then Adam breaks down In the Gray, the new Guy Ritchie thriller with Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and approximately 60 profanities — which prompts a genuinely useful conversation about how Plugged In thinks about relative versus absolute content standards, and why counting swear words actually matters. Plus a preview of what's coming to the big screen this summer, including the Mandalorian film on the horizon. This week, we review Snatch (2000), Guy Ritchie's frenetic British crime comedy set deep in the London criminal underworld. Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Benicio del Toro, and Vinnie Jones star as a chaotic ensemble of boxing promoters, gangsters, and small-time crooks in a story that explores greed, chaos, and the butterfly effect of criminality. With two intertwining plots — a priceless stolen 84-carat diamond and a bare-knuckle boxing fix gone very wrong — this film raises intriguing questions about whether luck, loyalty, or sheer mayhem is what really rules the underworld. Is Snatch a diamond in the rough, or just a rough diamond? Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes is a thrilling reimagining of the classic detective tale, blending high-octane action with sharp wit. Robert Downey Jr. delivers a captivating performance as the eccentric detective, while Jude Law's portrayal of Watson provides a perfect balance of logic and loyalty. The film's dynamic visuals and fast-paced editing breathe new life into Victorian London, making it feel both vibrant and dangerous. Although the plot can be intricate, it adds to the film's charm, inviting viewers to piece together the mystery alongside Holmes. This bold reinterpretation not only honors the original stories but also captivates a new generation of fans.

"A collector of obscure volumes" [EMPT]  Today we honor the enduring legacy of Vincent Starrett — the legendary journalist, bibliophile, and founding member of the Baker Street Irregulars — as we approach the 140th anniversary of his birth. To celebrate, the Torists International S.S. will host a landmark conference from October 23-25, 2026, in Starrett's longtime home of Chicago. The event's organizers, Jonathan Shimberg and Linda Crohn, share the inspiration behind the gathering and their own storied history within the Sherlockian community. They explain how the conference came together, and why Starrett's influence remains so vital to readers and collectors today.  Our "Learned Societies" segment kicks off with Sherlockian society activities coming up the last half of May. Then, it's a new edition of "Examining the Pictures," with the film critic, journalist, and author Christian Monggaard, BSI, as he reviews Guy Ritchie's new Amazon Prime series, Young Sherlock.  Finally, the Canonical Couplet quiz will test your Sherlock Holmes knowledge, with a copy of something from the IHOSE vaults for the winner. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by the fabulous actors HERO FIENNES TIFFIN & DONAL FINN!What with Young Sherlock premiering on Prime TODAY (at time of publishing, that is) - or for those listening later - March 4th, what better pairing than Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty (and our man Scroobius Pip who also stars in the show!). Guy Ritchie directed it, and it sounded like a very cool and very unique environment to be a part of... We catch Hero and Donal at the very start of the press run, but already they have their off-screen chemistry down to science as they let us all in on the process, which is one that embraces spontaneity while being fully prepared. Along with the blend of loose / tight, we also hear about the musicality of the script which includes meticulous cadence, having room to present ideas and creative input on set, the importance of careful scheduling and also how to portray the Mind Palace. Many have attempted it... What will this iteration look like? Enjoy the episode, and catch the show too of course!PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureHERO IMDBHERO IGDONAL IMDBDONAL IGYOUNG SHERLOCKPIP AT PRINCE CHARLES CINEMA!SPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDB Hosted on Acast.
