We do bemoan the lack of a single on the album in a nu-metal era that demanded singles, and felt like that could've been the one piece the band was missing to truly catapult them to stardom. That and maybe that they admit they were drunk almost all of the time and they certainly were not smart, as Jonny Santos gives us one of the funniest quotes in the show's history. En este 2025, América Latina ha virado a la derecha: Bolivia puso fin a 20 años de gobiernos de izquierda al elegir a Rodrigo Paz como presidente; Chile votó por José Antonio Kast y Honduras por Nasry Asfura, candidatos que gozaban del beneplácito y el apoyo de Trump. Daniel Noboa fue reelegido en Ecuador y Javier Milei logró una importante victoria en las legislativas argentinas. Analizamos este fenómeno con Alexis Medina, profesor de Asuntos Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Franche-Comté. Rodrigo Paz, José Antonio Kast y Nasry Asfura son algunos de los políticos de derechas o de extrema derecha que han llegado al poder en este 2025 en Latinoamérica, una región que ha experimentado un marcado giro a la derecha en las urnas. ¿A qué se debe este cambio de dirección? Alexis Medina, profesor de Asuntos Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Franche-Comté, sostiene que para explicar este fenómeno hay que evocar el alza de las tendencias populistas a nivel global, teniendo en cuenta, no obstante, las situaciones específicas de cada país. "Por un lado, hay una tendencia global de un giro no solamente hacia la derecha, sino incluso hacia la extrema derecha. Es algo que se observa también en Estados Unidos y en varios países europeos. La atomización de la sociedad y, por lo tanto, la búsqueda de chivos expiatorios, por ejemplo los inmigrantes, las minorías étnicas, los indígenas, etcétera. La acción colectiva se ve sustituida por un voto castigo a favor de la extrema derecha". Bolivia, autodestrucción del MAS y triunfo de la derecha Dicho esto, este profesor de la universidad francesa de Franche-Comté resalta que existen circunstancias propias de cada país, "factores internos", que explican este giro. "En el caso de Bolivia, por ejemplo, la victoria de la derecha se debe en buena medida a la autodestrucción del Movimiento al Socialismo, el MAS. En otros lugares, las fuerzas de derecha o de extrema derecha llegan al poder en un contexto en el que la izquierda estuvo gobernando, pero no estuvo a la altura de las expectativas que había despertado. Ese es el caso de Chile, por ejemplo, con el gobierno de Gabriel Boric: muchos chilenos consideraban que no estuvo a la altura y que no cumplió con esas promesas". En algunos casos, como el de Asfura en Honduras o el triunfo de Javier Milei en las pasadas legislativas argentinas, el presidente estadounidense Donald Trump estuvo presente, incluso supeditando su apoyo económico al país a que se cumplieran resultados que le complacían. ¿Cambiará esta postura la política internacional de Latinoamérica? El mandatario estadounidense tiene buenas relaciones con el presidente de Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, con Milei en Argentina, y las tendrá seguramente con el nuevo presidente de Honduras, con Kast, etcétera. En cuanto a la relación con China, es posible que estos gobiernos de derecha o de extrema derecha sean reticentes a profundizar la dependencia económica que tiene América Latina con ese país. Pero yo no estoy tan seguro de hasta qué punto sean capaces de romper esa relación con Pekín, porque la presencia china en América Latina ya es relativamente antigua. China lleva varias décadas construyendo su influencia en la región. Va a ser difícil que países como Honduras, Ecuador o Argentina se distancien a nivel económico de China", concluye.

José Antonio Kast won the December 14 runoff by a commanding margin — a stunning reversal in a country that in 2019 experienced a massive social uprising over the unaffordability of life and extreme inequality. The social revolt ended with the pandemic lockdown, but the following year a broad leftist coalition swept into power, electing the 34-year-old former radical student leader Gabriel Boric, whose government promised to bury neoliberalism once and for all. How did Chile move so quickly from an anti-neoliberal social rebellion to the return of the hard right? Was this a vote for authoritarianism — or a vote against insecurity, inflation, and political stalemate? What does Kast's victory tell us about the global resurgence of the far right, from Latin America to Europe and the United States? Buenos días. La agenda del Presidente electo, José Antonio Kast, no se detiene. Ni en la antesala de Navidad. A las 13:00 horas, se reunirá con la expresidenta Michelle Bachelet. Si bien se trata de un encuentro de carácter protocolar —similar al que ya sostuvo con Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle—, será difícil eludir la conversación sobre si el republicano respaldará la postulación de la exmandataria a la Secretaría General de la ONU. Antes de viajar a Ecuador, donde mañana tiene agendada una reunión con el Presidente Daniel Noboa para abordar la crisis migratoria, desafíos en seguridad y el desarrollo comercial entre ambos países, Kast sostendrá hoy una serie de encuentros clave. Entre ellos, con la contralora Dorothy Pérez, la presidenta del Banco Central, Rosanna Costa, el fiscal nacional Ángel Valencia, y el excanciller Roberto Ampuero. Anoche, Canal 13 emitió su primera entrevista como Presidente electo. This is part of a broader deterioration of religious freedom in the Central American nation. Religious leaders often face arbitrary detention, and officials generally prohibit public religious events. The authoritarian government has also shut down over 1,300 religious groups since 2018. Anna Lee Stangl with Christian Solidarity Worldwide said, “The Nicaraguan government's efforts to restrict the entry of Bibles, other books, newspapers and magazines into the country are highly concerning given the current context of repression. We call on the government of Nicaragua to lift this ban immediately.” The country is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult places to be a Christian.  Chile elects conservative, pro-life president Chile elected José Antonio Kast, a conservative former lawmaker, as their president on Sunday, reports NBC News. He won 58 percent of the vote, defeating communist rival Jeanette Jara. Kast is a practicing Catholic, the father of nine children, and a pro-life activist.  He said in his victory speech, “But nothing would be possible if we didn't have God. And that's something we can't fail to acknowledge.” He added a prayer for “wisdom, temperance, and strength” in the challenges ahead. Kast campaigned on dealing with growing crime and illegal migration into the South American country, primarily from Venezuela.  Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” America seized a Venezuelan oil tanker related to terrorism The United States seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela last week. It's the first time the U.S. has seized Venezuelan oil since imposing sanctions on the South American country in 2019. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X, “For multiple years, the oil tanker has been sanctioned by the United States due to its involvement in an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations.” U.S. oil production hits historic level The U.S. oil and natural gas industry set production records last month, reports The Center Square. Crude oil output reached about 5.9 million barrels per day, the highest ever recorded in U.S. history. Texas led the production of crude oil and natural gas. So far this year, the Lone Star state's production increased by 5.8 percent despite operating 20 percent fewer rigs. Two Texas cities outlawed abortion Two Texas cities outlawed abortion last week. The City of Springlake, Texas became the 90th city in the nation to pass a Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance last Thursday. And the city council of Tira, Texas became the 91st city to pass such an ordinance on Sunday. Both ordinances passed unanimously.  Tira Mayor Allen Joslin and his wife, Councilwoman Tami Joslin, shared, “We believe this to be the most important item that has come across our forum to vote on, which truly empowers the residents of the Tira community in the battle to protect the unborn.” 60 percent of Americans identify as Christian Pew Research released a new survey on religion in America. The study found that the religious composition of U.S. adults has remained steady over the past five years. During that time, over 60 percent of Americans consistently said they identify as Christians. Previously, affiliation with Christianity was declining, but it appears to be plateauing now.  The study did not find a widespread resurgence of religiosity among young people. Indiana quarterback gives glory to God And finally, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. He's the first Indiana Hoosier to take home college football's top individual award. Mendoza led the Hoosiers through an undefeated season. José Antonio Kast, candidato del Partido Republicano, ganó este domingo las elecciones presidenciales chilenas con una ventaja contundente en la segunda vuelta. Obtuvo el 58% de los votos frente al 42% de Jeannette Jara, de la coalición de izquierda Unidad por Chile. Esta diferencia de más de 16 puntos representa una de las mayores en una segunda vuelta desde el retorno a la democracia en 1990, lo que convierte a Kast en uno de los presidentes más votados de la historia del país. La trayectoria de Kast ha sido ascendente: en 2017 quedó cuarto y no pasó a segunda vuelta; en 2021 llegó al balotaje pero perdió ante Gabriel Boric por 11 puntos. Esta vez, tras quedar segundo en la primera vuelta del pasado 16 de noviembre, arrasó en la segunda. Lo ha conseguido gracias a que supo entender las principales preocupaciones de los chilenos: la delincuencia, la inmigración ilegal y el estancamiento económico. Chile, tradicionalmente uno de los países más seguros de Hispanoamérica, ha asistido en los últimos años a un incremento notable de la violencia que se atribuye a bandas criminales asociadas a la inmigración ilegal, básicamente la venezolana. Los extranjeros representan ya el 10% de la población. Kast prometió en campaña mano dura. Una mano dura que se traducirá en deportaciones, el endurecimiento de la vigilancia fronteriza con Perú y Bolivia y medidas punitivas contra el crimen. Para superar la crisis económica ha propuesto reducir impuestos, suavizar las regulaciones, recortar el gasto público en 6.000 millones de dólares en solo 18 meses y fomentar la inversión extranjera. En su discurso de la noche electoral insistió en la seguridad y el crecimiento, asegurando que "sin seguridad no hay paz, sin paz no hay democracia y sin democracia no hay libertad". Adoptó también un tono inclusivo y conciliador. Se presentó como presidente de todos los chilenos, renunció a la presidencia de su partido, rindió homenaje a ex presidentes de distintas inclinaciones políticas y reconoció la valía de su rival, Jeannette Jara. Ha evitado radicalismos y el populismo fácil tratando de hacer ver a los chilenos que los cambios requerirán tiempo y perseverancia. Aunque algunos lo etiquetan como ultraderechista por su pasado, Kast no representa un regreso al pinochetismo nostálgico. Es un conservador clásico, católico practicante (padre de nueve hijos), opuesto al aborto, al matrimonio homosexual y al divorcio, pero todo indica que priorizará agenda económica y la mejora de la seguridad ciudadana frente a la famosa batalla cultural. En este aspecto parece que se inspira más en Giorgia Meloni que en Trump o Bukele. La victoria de Kast consolida la ola de triunfos que ha ido cosechando últimamente la derecha hispanoamericana.
