Ela se instalou definitivamente em Nova York em 2024, mas a relação com a cidade remonta a 2014, quando começou a explorar novas oportunidades na cena artística internacional. Luciana Rosa, correspondente da RFI em Nova York"Sempre quis ilustrar para a The New Yorker, mas nunca imaginei que minha estreia seria logo em uma capa", conta Camila. Seu primeiro contato com a publicação ocorreu em 2023, quando a revista a convidou para desenvolver esboços para uma possível capa comemorativa dos 98 anos da publicação. O projeto não foi adiante, mas o interesse permaneceu. Um ano depois, Camila decidiu retomar o contato e, em junho de 2024, enviou um e-mail à editora. A resposta veio em dezembro: "Vamos retomar". O processo foi rápido, com ajustes e definição de cores até que, finalmente, a confirmação chegou: sua ilustração faria parte da histórica edição do centenário da revista.A capa comemorativa teve seis versões, sendo a original de 1925 acompanhada por outras cinco ilustrações contemporâneas. A obra de Camila Rosa foi uma das selecionadas para circular na edição especial e traz um olhar singular e representativo sobre a figura feminina.O ativismo como raiz do trabalhoA trajetória de Camila Rosa na arte tem suas origens no movimento punk e na cultura alternativa de sua cidade natal. Desde muito jovem, participava de eventos onde se discutiam feminismo, direitos das mulheres e questões sociais através de zines e manifestações. "Foi meu primeiro contato com a política e com a necessidade de expressão", lembra.Mesmo sem seguir uma militância formal na fase adulta, sua produção artística manteve-se como um espaço de discussão e representação. "Meu trabalho é minha forma de continuar falando sobre aquilo em que acredito", afirma.A descoberta da identidade latina"Eu nunca tinha parado para pensar sobre ser latina até vir para os Estados Unidos", conta. A experiência de morar em Nova York a fez perceber diferenças culturais e estéticas entre seu trabalho e a produção americana. "Passei a olhar mais para o Brasil, para outras regiões da América Latina e para a comunidade latina daqui", explica.Seu estilo passou a refletir mais diretamente essa identidade. "As mulheres que desenho têm traços latinos, uma força e uma expressão que remetem às pessoas que vejo ao meu redor. Isso aconteceu naturalmente, sem ser algo calculado."Murais e arte urbanaAlém das ilustrações editoriais, Camila também se destaca na street art. Influenciada por amigos da cena do grafite em Joinville, iniciou-se na arte urbana por meio de coletivos de lambe-lambe e posteriormente expandiu para murais de grande escala."A rua tem essa questão do acesso, qualquer um pode ver. É diferente de uma galeria. Fico feliz em ver meu trabalho em formatos grandes e acessíveis", diz. Entre suas obras, destaca-se um mural de 20 metros no Rio de Janeiro, de 2021, e projetos no Brooklyn, em Nova York, onde já participou de iniciativas como o Underhill Walls e Washington Walls. Capas de livrosCamila também tem uma trajetória significativa na ilustração de capas de livros. Um dos projetos de maior sucesso foi a capa de Daughters of Latin America: An International Anthology of Writing by Latine Women, de Sandra Guzmán. A editora HarperCollins identificou seu trabalho e entrou em contato diretamente para utilizar uma ilustração já existente. "Eu já tinha essa ilustração, e eles olharam e falaram: 'A gente queria usar essa ilustração na capa desse livro.' Eu finalizei e mandei para eles, e depois de um ano, quando foi sair, a autora veio falar comigo. Ela disse: 'Camila, a gente vai ter o lançamento do livro, eu queria muito te conhecer.' Fui conhecê-la pessoalmente, super querida."Outro projeto marcante foi o livro 5 Júlias, de Matheus Souza, publicado em 2019. Neste caso, Camila não fez a capa, mas ilustrou partes internas do livro. Ela também colaborou com a coleção Rebel Girls, uma iniciativa europeia traduzida para diversas línguas, que celebra histórias de mulheres inspiradoras ao redor do mundo.Além disso,Camila ilustrou o livro infantil Pelé, escrito por Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, parte da coleção Little People, Big Dreams.
