Mortal Kombat 2 It’s been 5 years since the last Mortal Kombat film was almost apologetically released onto our screens in a mid-covid streaming-first market. It was a moderate success at the time and folks were generally taken with the humour, the action beats and the relatively lore-accurate storyline. They were less interested in the new lead character Cole, who had never appeared in any MK story up to that point and whose main power seemed to be getting the seven shades of shit kicked out of him. Director Simon McQuoid has taken his licks on that one and has made the smart decision to follow up on that first story with a very different focus, and a lot of improvements. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation sits at the very top of the pile of worst sequels, and most crushing disappointments ever. Lets hope that this sequel doesn’t need the same tag line “Destroy your expectations”. It’s a 1 vs 1 match tonight with Dion in the red corner, and Quinny in the other colour non-descript corner (he can’t tell he’s colourblind!) we can only assume Peta and Jill are having their own knock-down drag-out fight in some other arena! Synopsis Johnny Cage joins other fighters in the ultimate, no-holds-barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a powerful tyrant who threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders. https://youtu.be/TaiIWS05TCw A huge shout-out to the Kombatants from all realms who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. The first sequel in the Mortal Kombat franchise, 1997's Annihilation, tries Jared and Adam's patience with a mixture of uninteligible dialogue, poor acting and a plot that doesn't make any sense. And why is everybody travelling via underground balls? The quick what we've been watching discussion makes more sense.

Dallas and Celeste just got back from seeing Mortal Kombat 2, and they have thoughts. The sequel brings Johnny Cage into the fold, raises the stakes with the actual tournament, and delivers some genuinely great fights and character moments. But does it stick the landing? In the spoiler-free half, Dallas and Celeste break down the pacing problems, the characters who got shortchanged, and whether the film earns its R rating. Then after the break, gloves come off, full spoiler discussion on movie spoilers, Kitana's story arc (the one that should have been the whole movie), what the film gets right as a Mortal Kombat experience, and why it left Dallas wanting to fire up the games all over again. Your favorite sleep-deprived monsters return this week to dive headfirst into Mortal Kombat (1995), directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and its chaotic little gremlin cousin Mortal Kombat:Annihilation (1997), directed by John R. Leonetti. What begins as nostalgic love for flying bicycle kicks, techno bangers, and flawless '90s vibes quickly mutates into a full-scale emotional fatality. We lovingly scream about how the first Mortal Kombat is still a beautiful, dumb, perfect arcade fever dream where every punch sounds like someone slapping a rotisserie chicken and every slow-motion kick feels like cinema history. Paul W.S. Anderson gave us glowing eyes, practical sets, unforgettable character entrances, and a soundtrack that could legally be classified as a controlled substance. This movie didn't just raise us — it babysat us while our parents were in Blockbuster arguing about late fees. Then… we willingly walk into the Outworld disaster zone that is Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a sequel that bravely asks the question: “What if we replaced half the cast, forgot how physics works, and spent the entire budget on Party City cosplay and unfinished CGI dragons?” We spiral into madness over:•Johnny Cage getting deleted faster than a bad tweet•Raiden turning into a dust cloud instead of, you know, lightning (sir???)•Random characters popping in like cursed Pokémon cards•Animalities happening whenever they feel emotionally ready•A centaur that may or may not be two American Gladiators sewn together in a garageAt some point the episode completely derails into debates about centaur anatomy, bad sequel trauma, why Scorpion keeps shooting demon snakes instead of a perfectly good spike-on-a-rope, and how this movie taught us — as children — that sometimes art hurts you on purpose.Through laughter, yelling, nostalgic joy, and light emotional damage, we celebrate what makes the Mortal Kombatmovie franchise endlessly rewatchable: insane fight choreography, iconic characters, wildly questionable creative choices, and the kind of beautiful stupidity only '90s genre cinema could deliver.CREEP-O-RAMA is: Store: CREEP-O-RAMAYouTube: @creep-o-ramaJosh: @joshblevesqueArtwork: @bargainbinblasphemyTheme: @imfigureAudio: @stranjlove

This time on General Witchfinders, we're heading into deep space — and hell itself — with the notorious 1997 science fiction horror film Event Horizon.··Directed by Paul Anderson and written by Philip Eisner, Event Horizon is set in 2047. A rescue crew investigates the ship Event Horizon, which vanished years earlier and is now orbiting Neptune.··After Mortal Kombat (1995), Anderson was suddenly in demand, linked to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and even X-Men. Instead, he wanted a darker R-rated project. Paramount gave him Eisner's script, first about alien creatures, but Anderson reworked it into a haunted house in space, drawing on The Haunting and The Shining.··Filming was rushed when Titanic slipped its release. The first 130-minute cut was heavily trimmed after poor test screenings. One infamous scene, a Bosch-inspired vision of Hell using amputees and adult performers, survived only as brief flashes but fuelled the film's cult status.··The gravity drive began as a floating black hole but was redesigned as rotating spiked rings, echoing Clive Barker's Hellraiser and biblical Ophanim. Built to really move, it rattled so much that dialogue was re-recorded later. Eisner admitted Warhammer 40,000's “Warp” also influenced the idea.··At the time Anderson was credited as “Paul Anderson.” He later added the W. S. to avoid confusion with Paul Thomas Anderson. His later films include Resident Evil entries and Alien vs. Predator.··Filming took place at Pinewood Studios with visual effects by Cinesite and the Computer Film Company. The interior design was inspired by Notre Dame, creating a cruciform gothic cathedral feel. An early space station shot of Dr. Weir took 10 weeks, a third of the FX budget, and was redone more than 20 times. Composer Michael Kamen worked with Orbital for a hybrid score.··Laurence Fishburne plays Captain Miller of the Lewis and Clark. He later voiced the Silver Surfer, played Jack Crawford in Hannibal, and appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.··Sam Neill plays Dr. William Weir. Famous for Jurassic Park, he once auditioned for James Bond, losing to Timothy Dalton, and appeared in Possession and Omen III: The Final Conflict.··Jason Isaacs appears as D.J., the medic. Early credits include The Tall Guy. He went on to play Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and Harry H. Corbett in The Curse of Steptoe. He recalled Event Horizon as “genuinely disturbing,” especially the “hell set.”··Sean Pertwee plays pilot Smith. Son of Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctor, he appeared in Cadfael, horror favourite Dog Soldiers, and later Gotham as Alfred Pennyworth, reimagined as ex-special forces.··Event Horizon remains a cult 1990s sci-fi horror, combining gothic design, disturbing imagery, and a cast of future stars. Its lost footage and production stories keep fans returning to one of the most infamous horror films of the decade.·Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. Hosted on Acast. McBee has trained in karate at the Billy Blanks World Karate Studio, and hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship with Anthony De Longis. As an actor McBee has generally been cast in action movies, usually in roles which allow him to use his fighting skills to portray a villain. For example, in Enter the Blood Ring, he portrays the wrestler Gregor. His most notable film role is that of Motaro in the second Mortal Kombat film, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. In the DVD extras of The Killing Zone, McBee states that he has produced his impressive physique by abstaining from steroids and using a combination of prayer and faith. In addition to film, McBee has had many guest starring roles on television. Shat the Movies: 80's & 90's Best Film Review

Remember when we covered "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" and wondered why Christopher Lambert had be replaced as Raiden? This week, we got our answer: Shat The Movies' favorite Frenchman was busy filming "Beowulf." On paper, this 1999 sci-fi adaptation of the Old English epic poem sounds like a disaster. In fact, movie commissioner Emmet in Orange had never even seen "Beowulf" when he requested a review.  Filmed on a $3 million budget, this Mortal Kombat-style action-adventure is loaded with anachronistic dialogue, comically odd weapons, overcomplicated gadgets, incredible cleavage and combat that mostly consists of doing flips. This movie's plot armor makes "Game of Thrones" Season 8 seem reasonable. The soundtrack and bring-your-own-costume style feel like we've slipped into a 1990s Romanian rave, and watching poor Rhona Mitra seduce Christopher Lambert hurt our souls. In this episode, we discuss the monster who could have been beaten by Kevin McCallister, the succubus who stepped right off the set of a Whitesnake video and how Big D gained 24 pounds in just four days of hanging out with Gene.
