Time and again he makes terrible decisions, particularly when it comes to helping his unreliable friend Worm, played effectively by Edward Norton. Their relationship never quite makes sense, and the film asks the audience to invest in choices that feel increasingly frustrating.The movie also leans heavily on poker terminology and insider lingo, often assuming the audience understands the details of the game. Instead of pulling viewers deeper into the world of high-stakes poker, it creates distance from the central premise.By the time the story wraps up, Mike's journey feels hollow. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay are all-in on telling wild stories as they talk about a movie that set off a poker boom, 'Rounders.' Bombay is the first one in the pot, as he recalls how going on an epic poker run helped get him out of serious money troubles in his youth. Then the boys discuss the classic sports movie disguised as a gambling movie. Featuring a memorable villain portrayed by John Malkovich, who decided to make some of the most gonzo acting choices imaginable, and we love him for it. Along with a rising Matt Damon, the film also stars Edward Norton as Worm, the type of friend you can't leave alone for more than two minutes. That character reminds Andy of when he picked up a buddy from jail, and the lessons he learned. On top of the top tier acting, John Dahl also showed off his noir-sensibilities behind the camera, as the movie is not only filled with specific poker detail, but also flourishes of late '90s New York. It not only taught a generation how to play Texas Hold 'Em, but also taught that in the game of life, women are the rake.

What we're doing this week is not a mystery. We eat mini tacos with hot sauce, veggies, pineapple juice, and kombucha before we discuss Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022). Is it really a whodunit if you know who the bad guy is from the very beginning? The movie is different enough to be unique to its genre, but we don't all agree that that's a good thing. It could be an inexplicable conundrum of disruptor drivel. We do agree that Janelle Monáe's portrayal of Andi and Helen and Edward Norton's performance give the film's story the puzzling twist it needs.

Along the way we get robot attack dogs, poison sushi, hacked kill-switches, and a haiku that brings a dictator to heel.We talk about Wes Anderson's unmistakable style even in animation: the hyper-detailed sets, deadpan framing, fight scenes rendered as swirling dust clouds, and dogs whose fur moves like living sculptures. Twenty years ago, director Ridley Scott returned to the historical epic, the same genre that won him an Oscar in 2000 for Gladiator. Swapping the Roman colosseum for the Middle East in the time of the Crusades, Scott assembled an all-star cast including Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, and an uncredited Edward Norton. A post-9/11 movie about Christians fighting Muslims would have seemed an easy win at the box office, but the film performed poorly stateside while doing well in Arabic-speaking countries, especially Egypt. Scott blamed the failure on studio meddling; he has since disowned the theatrical cut, and claims instead that his director's cut is the definitive version.
