NYC native Bobbito García is a visionary creative who has put an indelible footprint on multiple urban movements.During the 1990s, the legendary air personality was one-half of the “Stretch and Bobbito” program on WKCR. The duo introduced the world to an unsigned Nas, Biggie, and Wu-Tang, as well as an unknown Jay-Z, Eminem, and the Fugees. The total record sales for all the artists that premiered on their platform exceed 300 million. In 1998, the Source Magazine voted them as “The Best Hip Hop Radio Show of All Time,“ and in 2023, they were inducted into the NAB Radio Hall of Fame.As the progenitor of sneaker journalism, García penned his landmark Source article “Confessions of a Sneaker Addict” in 1990, then in 2003 became the critically acclaimed author of Where'd You Get Those? NYC's Sneaker Culture: 1960-1987(Testify Books). In 2005, ESPN's “It's The Shoes” series, hosted by Bobbito, became the first show on the subject in broadcasting history. A former professional basketball player in Puerto Rico, García performed in the ground breaking Nike “Freestyle” commercial. In 2007, the brand released seven co-designed Air Force 1 sneakers bearing his name. The voice of EA Sports' popular NBA Street video game is also a world-renowned DJ who has spun world, soul and jazz music at Lincoln Center, Central Park SummerStage, and the Smithsonian (DC). Bobbito was also featured playing his vinyl records in the 2022 NBA x Google commercial. As an award-winning filmmaker, García has directed Doin' It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC (PBS, Netflix), Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives (Showtime, Netflix), and NY Times “Critics' Pick" Rock Rubber 45s (Smithsonian African American Film Festival 2018 official selection). It's almost fall here in middle Tennessee and Nashville.  Summer is winding down and it's been one hot mothuh, and not in a good way.  The dogwoods have put out their little green pods which have grown into bigger red pods, and the season will change soon.  It's on the way.  Today's hour includes some songs about fall and there's also my statement about the mess in these United States with a lying evil fascist in our White House.  They bricked over the Rose Garden and there's so much gaudy fake gold nugget accents in the Oval they should offer barf bags at the door.  No more spray paint, ok??  And he wants a Nobel Prize and wants to name the Beloved Kennedy Center after himself or her.  What a flabby gas bag.  I can't stand this guy, the Russian asset, ruining not running the US.  He's the Master of Disaster, the dark lord (thinks he's God, more like the antiChrist).  The first set goes out to Capt Bonespurs.  That's my rant for today.  Mark Volman of the Turtles has entered the room next door, we remember him. and I've got a new one from Neil Young in this first set.  You'll like this one! Royal Dutch Shell Oil, Miss America PageantLencola Sullivan Verseveldt is a American news anchor, singer and former beauty queen who has competed in the Miss America pageant & the 1st Black Runner-Up ever in that Pageant. She was the first African-American to be crowned Miss Arkansas.The oldest of five children born to Richard and Macie Sullivan. She attended the University of Central Arkansas where she received a degree in broadcasting.Sullivan won the Miss Arkansas title in July 1980 and represented Arkansas in the Miss America 1981 pageant held later that year in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sullivan and Doris Hayes (Washington) became the first African-American women to win preliminary talent awards in the pageant. She was also the first to place among the top five, where she was fourth runner-up.Lencola became a news reporter on KARK-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas, and later moved to New York City. She has also worked for KTTV-TV in Austin, Texas, and sang with renown music artists Stevie Wonder, Kool & the Gang (for example on the album Unite) and Jazz Legend Lionel Hampton & his Orchestra, among many other things.She married Roel P. Verseveldt, a native of the Netherlands, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She and her husband have since been involved in international business activities. Matt BorlenghiTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know actor Matt Borlenghi. In this episode, we chat about growing up in Los Angeles and attending the famed Beverly Hills High School. Then we discuss his godfather Jerry Vale and Matt's thoughts on nepotism in the industry. Jerry could have helped Matt along in his career, very early on, with an introduction to Martin Scorsese; but Matt turned him down. So, I dive deep on whether Matt has changed his mind about favors from friends and family. Next, we talk about how Matt's best friend seemingly changed almost overnight, once the friend got famous. Matt was a breakout star on All My Children as Brian Bodine, after having delivered a well noticed performance on the cop drama Hunter. So naturally we cover his time on the soap opera, and how his leaving, led to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos marrying and building their empire. Then I ask Matt why he has personally participated in over 50 autopsies in Las Vegas. That's a wild story. Matt i part of the cast of the new film 'Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story'; which is generating a lot og buzz about the iconic female musician. We close the episode by touching briefly on a few projects that Matt has been working on lately, and then focusing on the skateboard culture themes streetwear clothing line that he has come up with, and why he decided to move forward with it.
