New North Church
Pastor Scott launched our summer series on the Minor Prophets by diving into the book of Obadiah. Each week, we'll uncover a unique message from one of these twelve minor prophets and see how it still resonates with us today. This week, we were reminded to willingly humble ourselves before God rather than face the painful consequences of pride. Let's take time this week to reflect on how we often try to reign as kings over our own lives, laying down our pride and remembering that we are beloved sons and daughters of the ultimate King.
How do we, as strangers of this world, navigate through this land with hope? This week, Pastor Jeff preaches from John 17:6-19, where Jesus intercedes for us in His High Priestly Prayer and reminds of what living out our faith looks like. Watch this week's message for practical ways to live out our walk with Jesus and practice true discipleship.Jeff LouieMay 25, 2025John 17:6-19Both/Andwww.newnorth.church
We are so glad you've joined New North Church for service today! How do we navigate through this land, or kingdom, in between? This week, Pastor Rob continues to explore the Both/And tension from Luke 17:20-21, as Paul tells us that the kingdom of God is already here, is not here yet, and is coming. Watch this week's message for the five ways God shapes how we live now.Rob HallMay 18, 2025Luke 17:20-21Both/Andwww.newnorth.church

Life is full of tensions—moments where two things that seem to be opposites are both true. The Bible is no different. It's packed with mysteries that can stretch our understanding, like how Jesus is both fully God and fully human, or how God is both perfectly loving and perfectly just. These tensions aren't contradictions; they're invitations to a deeper faith. In this series, we're diving into six of the biggest tensions in Scripture. Together, we'll wrestle with questions like: How do we live with joy while facing suffering? How do we embrace God's sovereignty while taking responsibility for our actions? And how do we live in the world without becoming like it?We want to explore these tensions because they're at the heart of what it means to follow Jesus. By holding these truths in balance, we grow in wisdom, trust, and maturity. Instead of trying to resolve the tension, we'll discover how it leads us closer to God and helps us live more faithfully in a complicated world.Join us for this journey—we're not promising easy answers, but we're confident we'll encounter the God who holds all things together.Rob HallMay 4, 2025Philippians 2:12-13Both/Andwww.newnorth.church

Pastor Rob continues our series: The Jesus Way: A Journey Through the Sermon on the Mount, preaching on Matthew 6:1-18. Jesus teaches that giving, praying, and fasting should be done humbly and in secret, seeking God's approval rather than human recognition. Jesus emphasizes that true devotion comes from the heart. As we give, pray, and fast, we should follow Jesus' example, ensuring that our heart posture is aligned with Him in humility and faith.Reflection Questions: Have you ever done the right thing with the wrong motives? This passage talks about 3 things: giving, praying and fasting. Which is easiest for you? Hardest for you? Matthew 6: 1-4Is there a current opportunity where you can be more generous with your time, talent and treasures.Matthew 6: 5-15What is one thing that has deepened or grown your prayer life? What's the heart and motivation behind your prayers?Matthew 6:16- 18What has been your experience with fasting? Is there anything you want to fast from during the season of Lent?Application: Pick a day this week to fast from a meal and use that time to draw closer to Jesus. Choose your own adventure:* Repent from doing things “for” God instead of spending time “with” God. * Pray for one another to have humble hearts in the practices of giving, fasting and praying. * Spend time practicing 5 minutes of Listening Prayer“God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.” Mother Theresa* Pick someone in the group to call this week and pray the Lord's Prayer together.Resources:Praying: https://praythebay.org/Fasting: https://www.cru.org/us/en/train-and-grow/
Pastor Zohary Ross continues The Jesus Way: Journey Through the Sermon on the Mount, exploring Jesus' radical call to love our enemies, reject retaliation, and reflect God's perfect love. Jesus doesn't lower the standard—He calls us to be transformed into His likeness.Matt 5:38-42Retaliation v Reconciliation. What would it look like to give more than is required? Read Romans 12:18. In what relationships do you need peace? Is there anyone around you to whom you need to extend “second mile” service?Matt 5:43-48We have a choice how we respond. When is it difficult to extend grace instead of holding onto being “right”?Jesus loved us - while we were his enemies (Rom 5:8-10). Who can you show Christ-like love to this week?Pray: For one another to surrender to the work of the Holy Spirit in making us perfect (mature and complete) and growing us into unoffendable peace-makers.Zohary RossFebruary 2, 2025Matthew 5:38-48The Jesus Way: Journeying Through the Sermon on the Mountwww.newnorth.church
