Send me a Text Message! In John 3, a man comes to Jesus looking for something more. He sensed in his spirit that Jesus might show him the way to something more. But Jesus' words confused him just a bit. Jesus said, if you want something more, "You must be born again." What in the world does that mean? It means that in Jesus, God offers us something more that's so radically different that it's like being born all over again; like starting over and being delivered into a whole new world, for a whole new life. It's not just more of the same old, same old. It's not just like before only better. It's not cosmetic or marginal; you are on your way to a breathtaking, supernatural, eternally new life. Are you looking for something more?
Send me a Text Message! Here's a principle of joy on the Jesus-Way, it's so key. If we want joy, if we want tolive our one and only life overflowing with joy, don't miss this principle. It's found in the first of Jesus' miraculous signs; turning water into wine. Here's the principle. When the wine runs dry and you come to Jesus looking for joy, we can ask for anything as long as we are willing to surrender everything.Mary told the servants, "Just do whatever he tells you to do." Are you willing to do whatever he asks? This is an issue of surrender. Am I willing to surrender control? When we ask for a miracle we honor God's hand by the size of our request, but we honor his heart by our willingness to do whatever he asks. That's how we find joy on the Jesus-Way!
Send me a Text Message!Jon Ortberg writes, "God is the happiest being in the universe." God also knows sorrow, but the sorrow of God is a temporary response to a fallen world. The sorrow will be banished when the world is set right. Joy is God's basic character. Joy is God's eternal destiny. God is the happiest being in the universe." Perhaps few things are more essential for the life we long to live than the essential of joy. An unexplainable, uncontainable, contagious and outrageously overflowing joy that doesn't require a changing of my circumstances, or a looking away from pain. It's a joy that comes in spite of the hard.So perhaps throughout this episode and after it, our simple prayer would be "God give me that joy, overflowing joy!"
Jesus doesn't call us to play it safe — He calls us to love radically. In this week's episode we'll explore how Jesus calls us to a love that doesn't just meet the standard — it surpasses it.
Send me a Text Message! At the heart of every Jesus apprentice is a growing passion for Jesus. A growing certainty that there is none greater than Jesus. A Jesus apprentice, ultimately lives like everything is worth-less than knowing Jesus. Anything that comes between Jesus and me is a loss. No matter what it takes, I want to know Jesus. So ask yourself, "What's keeping me from following Jesus with all my heart?" As I will share in this episode, sometimes what we treasure most about ourselves is the very thing that's keeping us from the Jesus Way.So I want to invite you to come and see...
Send me a Text Message!Don't miss this one! It's a bit different because this last week was our CWOW Sunday and snowmegaddon! I know she's my wife, but Lynn has an amazing and authentic relationship with Jesus and in her conversation with Pastor Stacy, she shares about what that relationship "conversational intimacy" looks like. It's a bit different than my regular episodes, not a lot of scripture, not a lot of me, but a lot of Holy Spirit inspired story of a life lived, chasing after Jesus.Listen all the way through, the end is pretty powerful!
Send me a Text Message! As I was working on this episode, I couldn't get a song out of my head. It's a simple song that I learned in church as a kid. "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine..." In John 1 we find that Jesus is not only the Word of God, He is the light of the world. And when His light shine the darkness cannot win. But if you can get past the grand metaphors and visions of light battling darkness, at the heart of John 1 is a messy love story. In the midst of our darkness and our mess, he relentlessly pursues you. Even as you walk the Jesus way, His heart is relentlessly pursuing you.
Send me a Text Message! Ask yourself this question, "Whose words do I love? Who gets my ears?" I can't love Jesus' words if I'm never in His Word (the Bible). So how much of it have I read? How often did I read it this week? Do I treasure it? Do his words saturate my soul? Do I let His Words convict me? Guide me? Here's the deal, I can't be an apprentice of Jesus if I never listen to the word. In other words, the first step is as simple as, open the book. This may take a little planning. The good news is that God will meet you wherever you are at, whatever your plan. But you have to open the book. It's hard to walk in His ways, if I don't listen for His voice!
Send me a Text Message!I don't actually say those three words often in this episode. In fact maybe I don't say them ever. But as you listen to me describe the way of Jesus that we find in John's gospel. I hope you hear those three words over and over again, "You are invited." You are invited to follow Jesus. You are invited to become more like Jesus and do more like Jesus. You are invited to be with Jesus. You are invited on this journey of the Jesus way. You are invited by me, but more importantly we are invited by Jesus!I hope you join us!
Send me a Text Message! The Gospel of John is a masterclass in the Jesus way. It is not just a record of what Jesus did, but an invitation into how Jesus lived, loved, related, discerned, and moved through the world. If the other Gospels give us the story of Jesus, John opens a door into the inner life of Jesus—so that anyone who reads it can learn to live from the same center, with the same Father, in the same Spirit, for the same purposes. For this journey, think of John as an apprenticeship manual disguised as a story. And we start with the question, "What is my most urgent hunger?"

The Tell Me More crew kicks off a new semester at First Baptist Arlington with Luke back in the studio, a fresh staff structure, and a renewed focus on “the path of life”—the narrow road of discipleship to Jesus. After some light banter and life updates (including a whale-watching trip to Monterey and a memorable Pebble Beach outing), the conversation turns to heavier, timely themes: cultural polarization, how everyday decisions can escalate or de-escalate conflict, and why the church's most urgent work is still making disciples. From there, the group unpacks Sunday's sermon emphasis on formation: the world is constantly shaping people (often through “spooky algorithms,” surveillance capitalism, and parasocial online influence), so following Jesus requires intentional counter-formation through spiritual practices and community. They explore what “flourishing” means biblically—distinct from prosperity or ease—highlighting that faithful discipleship can include suffering, persecution, and sacrifice, while still being a life marked by God's presence, purpose, and fruitfulness. A vivid story about “Umaru,” a persecuted evangelist in West Africa, anchors this definition of flourishing. The episode closes with practical next steps for listeners: Midweek programming is starting (kids, students, Perspectives, care groups, and more), and the church is launching daily Bible readings/devotional guides delivered by email to help members stay rooted on “The Jesus Way.”
Ever feel like God is a distant mystery rather than a personal presence you can actually know? This sermon kicks off a new series exploring how the Holy Spirit is a person—not just an impersonal "force"—who serves as your daily advocate and teacher. Discover how opening your life to the Spirit can lead to a total transformation and a peace that you can't find anywhere else.
If you have ever felt like your New Year's resolutions were just temporary fixes, this message explores why we often look for answers in "hidden places" when the truth is right in front of us. Discover how Jesus is more than just a great teacher or showman, but the "main thing" who invites us into a life-changing relationship that can truly transform who we are. Join us to learn how staying rooted in him can lead to a year of overflowing gratitude and a deeper connection with the community around you.
Matthew 26:52-54Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

Jesus' words, “My kingdom is not of this world,” form the theological foundation for this discussion. In what ways is the Kingdom of God fundamentally different from worldly governments?Professing Christians profess that their political involvement is an expression of their Christianity, like Shane Claiborne on the Left and Charlie Kirk on the Right. All of us, at one time or another have missed an opportunity that could have altered our lives, maybe for the better. There are also many famous moments in history that were squandered. Here are just a few: • A Kodak engineer invented the first digital camera, but the company suppressed the technology, fearing it would hurt its “film business”. • The telegraph company Western Union famously rejected Alexander Graham Bell's offer to buy the telephone patent for $100,000, calling the device "idiotic". • A committee of the British Government rejected Thomas Edison's light bulb, stating that it might be “okay for our transatlantic friends…but unworthy of the attention of practical or scientific men.” • Decca Records famously turned down the Beatles after an audition, because one of their executives stated "guitar groups are on the way out". In JESUS' great “End Times” teaching found in Matthew 24 and 25, He employs a Parable to warn His disciples of the eternal tragedy of squandering our lives. This Parable is most often called the “Parable of the Servants & Talents”, and we'll explore its poignant message this Sunday. In this message, Pastor Joe Still leads us to discover together how to “Maximize our Lives” the JESUS Way!
This week on Tell Me More, we welcome a dynamic duo—Curt Grice and Luke Stehr—for a thoughtful and energizing conversation about Sunday's sermon, “The Engaged Church.”Drawing from Acts 11:19–30 and 13:1–3, Curt and Luke unpack what it means for the Church to live as God's global community—His new temple—and how we're called to step into His Great Plan of Redemption with availability, faith, and purpose.Together, we explore the inspiring example of the Church at Antioch, highlighting the characteristics of a truly engaged church:Centered on the GospelMarked by God's presence, grace, and gladnessDiverse, relational, and welcomingGrowing and disciple-makingResponsive to teaching and the Spirit's leadingGenerous, adventurous, and full of faithCurt and Luke also reflect on how God's power shows up when His people say “yes,” and how our own church—since 1871—has been stepping into its potential by remaining faithful to The Jesus Way.Whether you missed the sermon or want to dive deeper, this episode will encourage you to consider what engagement looks like in your own walk and in the life of our church family.

What can cause you to stop short of allowing Jesus' words to change your heart and life?
What does it look like to live The Jesus Way in a world that often follows a very different path? In Part 1 of Counter-Culture, Pastor Spencer lays the foundation for this new series by exploring the difference between the culture of the world and the culture of the Kingdom of Heaven. The Jesus Way doesn't blend in—it stands out. It doesn't conform—it overcomes. Discover how following Jesus transforms your way of life, reshapes your values, and calls you to be a carrier of Kingdom culture right where you are.
What if the Christianity we've been taught has almost nothing to do with what Jesus actually said? What if modern Christianity has less to do with the message of radical love from Jesus, and more to do with the zealous teachings of the ‘apostle' Paul?In this mind-blowing conversation, former pastor and biblical scholar Aaron Abke drops bombshell after bombshell about the REAL Jesus of Nazareth (and his brothers!)—and why the religion built in the name of Christ is inconsistent with His core teachings.
