Acts 2:1-36 Acts 2:1-36 - The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” 13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.” Peter Addresses the Crowd 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' 22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him: “‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope, 27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay. 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.' 29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”' 36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

1 Corinthians 2:1-5
"To do anything involves the body. ²And if you recognize you need do nothing, you have withdrawn the body's value from your mind. ³Here is the quick and open door through which you slip past centuries of effort, and escape from time. ⁴This is the way in which sin loses all attraction right now. ⁵For here is time denied, and past and future gone. ⁶Who needs do nothing has no need for time. ⁷To do nothing is to rest, and make a place within you where the activity of the body ceases to demand attention. ⁸Into this place the Holy Spirit comes, and there abides. ⁹He will remain when you forget, and the body's activities return to occupy your conscious mind.8. Yet there will always be this place of rest to which you can return. ²And you will be more aware of this quiet center of the storm than all its raging activity. ³This quiet center, in which you do nothing, will remain with you, giving you rest in the midst of every busy doing on which you are sent. ⁴For from this center will you be directed how to use the body sinlessly. On the day of Pentecost, God didn't give the church a battery pack, He gave us Himself - the Holy Spirit. Wind, fire and language miracles announced that the new era had begun and now the Spirit lives in God's people and equips them for witness. Hear Rob preach as we pray together: "Lord, pour out your Spirit on us."
(This podcast was previously published on January 21, 2021) Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... The Holy Spirit of God, given to the children of God today, searches the heart of God to reveal to us the will of God in the specific areas of our life, so we can know what God wants us to do in situations of this present life. (I Corinthians 2:9-14) Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as being the Spirit of Truth and The Comforter. John 14:26 Jesus says ... But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY name, HE shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 16:13 Jesus says ... Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE will guide you into all truth: for HE shall not speak of HIMSELF; but whatsoever HE shall hear, that shall HE speak: and HE will shew you things to come. The Holy Spirit lives in the believer.(I Corinthians 3:16; I Corinthians 6:19; II Corinthians 13:5) The Holy Spirit never makes us do anything, such as roll on the floor as the "Holy Roller" churches did in the early 1900's. This was another spirit, not the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit brings ideas and scriptures to our mind to show us truth in the situation and also to show us the will of God as we deal with issues of this life. The Holy Spirit is a great benefit to us and a great gift to us from God. But some in the churches today do not understand these things about the Holy Spirit so they miss many of the blessings of God available to us, the believer in Christ, The Word. And some believers pray but then fail to understand how they can know which idea that comes to them after prayer is from God. James 3:17 tells us how to recognize that idea which is sent from God. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. The power of God is given to us through the Holy Spirit of God who dwells in us today. ***** Jesus said: John 5:30 Jesus says ... I can of MINE own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and MY judgment is just; because I seek not MINE own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent ME. Jesus always heard from God the Father so HE knew that which God wanted HIM to do as HE walked on this earth. *** The Holy Spirit lives in each person who believes in Jesus. I Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? *** The Holy Spirit of God searches the heart of God to show us the will of God by bringing ideas and scriptures to our mind. I Corinthians 2:9-13 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love HIM. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by HIS Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. *** A human cannot understand the things of God by his own natural mind. I Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. *** The Holy Spirit does 4 things for the believer: He teaches us all things; He reminds us of scripture and godly concepts; He guides us into all truth; He shows us things to come. *** We can recognize the ideas that are from God by the following: James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Have you ever felt like something was missing? You might have the dream job, a beautiful marriage, even more than enough money—but deep down, there's still a gap you can't explain. This Sunday, as we continue our Unstoppable series, Pastor Scotty walks us through Acts 2—the moment that marked the true beginning of the church. Building on Acts 1, he'll show us how what feels missing inside of us is actually found in the Spirit of God, who launched a movement that couldn't be stopped and is still changing lives today. Come and be reminded that you're not alone in your faith. The Spirit still works in mysterious and powerful ways, and God wants to fill what's missing in you and use your life to change the world.

On today's episode, we look at how Jesus prepared his disciples for persecution by promising the Holy Spirit. He describes him as the Comforter, an indwelling presence for believers. This episode explores the Holy Spirit's role in sealing salvation, guiding into all truth, empowering believers for victorious living, and partnering with us in evangelism.

Pentecost Sunday 2025 6-8-25 "The work of the Spirit is to impart life, to implant hope, to give liberty, to testify of Christ, to guide us to all truth, to teach us all things, to comfort the believer, and to convict the world of sin.” D.L. Moody Acts 1:4-8 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized withwater, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Acts 2:1-4 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Creation Exodus Jesus Pentecost When the Holy Spirit Comes: 1. You Will Receive Power "The Christian life is not meant to be lived dryly or wearily, but to be a life of overflowing water and rushing wind, filled with the presence of God." - Jon Tyson & Suzy Silk "God's Spirit continues to hover over the chaos of the world's evil and our sin and shapes a new creation and new creatures. Pentecost means that God is not a spectator, in turn amused and alarmed at world history; rather, he is a participant. Pentecost means that the invisible is more important the the visible, at any single moment and at any single event we choose to examine. Pentecost means that everything, especially everything that looks to us like wreckage, is material God is using to make a praising life." - Eugene Peterson When the Holy Spirit Comes: 1. You Will Receive Power 2. You Will Be My Witnesses "Many Jews longed for a new event in which the divine glory would fill Israels's Temple once more... The wind and fire of Pentecost answers to this expectation, indicating that now the Temple is a community, not a building. The church, as the spirit filled Temple of God, goes into the world with the fresh wind and fire, living out its vocation to be a light to the nations, burning ever more brightly. " - NT Wright "If I were to define what for me makes up the core Pentecostal identity it is the lived conviction that everything, absolutely everything, in the scriptures is livable. Not just true, but livable. Not just an idea or a cause, but livable in real life. Everything that is revealed in Jesus and the scriptures, the gospel, is there to be lived by ordinary Christians in ordinary times." - Eugene Peterson

In John 14:26, Jesus promised, ‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.' No matter where we are the Holy Spirit is our constant companion, our Advocate and Helper. He empowers us to understand God's truth, comforts us in uncertainty, and reminds us of Christ's love and wisdom in every season. In a city that never sleeps, let's pause and invite the Holy Spirit to ignite our hearts. We are never alone; God's presence is with us, teaching, guiding, and connecting us to His unending grace. From our series "Acts." Acts chapter two is one of the most well known parts of the Bible, and for good reason. It's the moment the entire Old Testament was longing for: When God's personal presence comes to rest within the hearts of everyone, from every nation and culture, who pledges allegiance to Jesus as king. But when the Holy Spirit comes, what's the first thing he compels the first Christians to do? The answer is just as shocking to us today as it was to those who witnessed the first events of Pentecost.
When the Holy Spirit comes Jesus is exalted, a response is inevitable, and everything changes. In today's podcast we'll continue our study of Acts chapter 2 and learn more about the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Do you long to know Him? Are you hungry for His voice in your life? Are you ready to yield to Him with all of your heart? This episode is for you!
