A podcast for new real estate agents that provides the best strategies, tools, tips, and advice for getting started. Getting into real estate can be challenging, I should know! I received my real estate license on January 31, 2020, about a month before Covid-19 blew up. I created this podcast, Youtube channel, and website to help out and support new real estate agents. There are a LOT of variables to juggle from the types of lead generation strategies you're going to implement to staying organized to keeping a winning mindset. Check out newagentmindset.com!
Wow, can you say breaking promises? My apologies for the long absence (again) even though I promised I was going to be more consistent. What is trust...promises kept over time! Anyhoo, in this episode, I'm going to talk about the 1 question that I think new real estate agents ought to ask themselves when choosing a broker.
Hello fellow agents or soon-to-be agents! In this episode, I'm going to talk about how difficult it's been to pull off my 'Year 2 Reset' and how stressed and exhausted I've been lately. All of this failure and turmoil has helped me come to my new favorite tattoo slogan of 'Optimize or Die.' This episode marks the start of my second year with EXP Realty. While I've actually been a real estate for a year and a half, the first 6 months of my career were consumed by Covid and trying to figure out how to pivot and start making money! Those first 6 months were with Keller Williams before switching to EXP on June 23 of 2020. The reason that I'm calling this a 'reset' is that I have decided to make some necessary changes in myself and my business. We all need to constantly assess what's working for us and what isn't. This episode is a preview of some of the changes that I'm making in my business and I hope that they provide insight and value for you as well! If you are finding value in the podcast, I'm on Patreon now as 'John Pena'
Are you a control freak? If so, reconsider your profession as a real estate agent! In this episode, we are introducing a new segment called 'Story Time' where I'll routinely share stories that new agents might never have heard of or even considered could happen. My goal is to help new real estate agents be better prepared for what they might encounter. This particular story is about coincidences, conspiracy theory listing agents, and doing your best to handle situations that are completely out of your control.
In this episode, we are going to talk about a trend that I've noticed lately in some agents. Everybody knows that a real estate agent is supposed to be able to competently negotiate on their client's behalf. However, when was the last time you received training in this skill or learned anything about it? I'm going to talk about a very unprofessional way that many agents approach negotiation from the very start.
In this episode, we are going to jump into the book by Dale Carnegie called 'How to Win Friends & Influence People.' This is a great book that was written back in 1936 and has been read over and over by the world's most successful people. Interestingly enough, the first chapter of this book is VERY similar to the first agreement in the book by Miguel Ruiz called 'The Four Agreements.'
Hello new real estate agents and I hope that you are all doing great! I thought that I was going to shelve the podcast but I just couldn't stay away. It's been a little while but I've decided to come back and try to be a resource for new agents looking for advice, strategies, and general discussion regarding the life of a new agent. It can be pretty tough out there and I'm hoping that this podcast will be a place where you can find value. In this episode, I'm going to tell you about the biggest mistake I've made so far. If you like, please send an email to john@newagentmindset.com with your biggest mistakes or questions that you'd like answered. All the best!
Well, folks, that's it! I am retiring from the label, 'new real estate agent.' Thanks so much for going on this journey with me. I truly hope that you have found VALUE here. Email me anytime at john@newagentmindset.com Reach out at 915.355.3477 Check out the YT channel for updates.
This episode is about the first agreement from the book, "The Four Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz. You'd be surprised how powerful your word can be! Also, I couldn't help talking about Grant Cardone joining eXp.
This episode is all about a listener to the podcast who is working a full-time job AND doing real estate part-time. He is looking for advice and a "better strategy" and I do my best to provide him with exactly that. At the same time, one of the 'Four Agreements' comes into play in his situation and we start to explore that as well.
I've found myself saying, "Don't leave money on the table." I'll explain what that means to me and how I'm trying hard to take my own advice. Also, I've been saying that sellers are preferable to buyers, even though I haven't had any yet. I had a couple of recent experiences that helped me see that buyers aren't that bad after all.
In this episode of New Real Estate Agent mindset, we are going to answer a listener's question about how to decide on content. It is very easy to have an unfocused message that wanders. In my humble opinion, you want to identify the target audience and craft a message or story that resonates directly with their story!
This episode is all about getting started as a new real estate agent. A listener recently asked me how a new agent should get started. This is exactly what I've been thinking about and what I would like NAM to become over time. This particular episode breaks down my advice for new agents into 3 very important steps from making sure that this career is for you to generating and converting leads. Welcome to 2021 friends! In this episode, we introduce you to the book by Don Miguel Ruiz, called "The Four Agreements." The author is from the Toltec lineage and his book, in my humble opinion, is hands down, the best book for people looking to embrace a new mindset. I am very excited to start talking about his ideas and how they can help new and existing real estate agents find more clients, have more successful interactions with others and generally find peace and contentment.
This episode is all about goal setting for the new year. Typically, we make annual or yearly goals at this time of year. However, I recently came across a different idea that I believe has a lot of merits.
This episode is all about my experience with my mentor. As a new agent with eXp, I was automatically enrolled in the mentorship program. This episode will break down my thoughts about the importance of having someone that you can go to with all of your newbie questions. We also discuss the amount of money that I've made since my last fiscal update!
In this episode, we are going to talk about the book, "The Millionaire Real Estate Agent" by Gary Keller. This legendary book is full of great advice and a very specific and detailed plan to become a millionaire real estate agent. Also included are some thoughts about getting organized when the clients start rolling in and working with other agents.
This is the final lesson from the book by Og Mandino entitled, "The Greatest Salesman in the World." We will sum up all of the previous mindset lessons and go over the final lesson. This is a great book for anyone in the sales business, especially new real estate agents!
This episode is all about a lesson from "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by Og Mandino. There are a total of 10 lessons in the book for salespeople and this is lesson 9. Many people do all of the legwork or research-gathering of a task, career, or idea BUT never start! This lesson is for those who are willing to start.
Here is our first annual Thanksgiving episode! Best to everyone.
When I talk to real estate agents, I usually ask them why they got into real estate? While I do believe that you should have a big WHY that is meaningful and resonates with you, most of us also have a pragmatic why. The two most common answers I hear to this question are wealth or lifestyle. In this episode, we are going to explore the Wealth Quadrant. Most real estate agents are focused on the short term, finding clients. It is worthwhile to consider the long term every once in a while and these wealth-building strategies are key. If you are hoping to build wealth or have a lifestyle of time and money freedom, you do not want to skip this one!
How do you define trust? It's a key part of any real estate agents' business and we are going to touch on a great definition of it. Contact management is another aspect of an agents' business that needs to be well thought out as well. If you don't have a system in place to stay top of mind with your sphere and clients, you are running the risk of losing business and leaving money on the table. Additionally, we are going to take a look at 8 mistakes that new real estate agents make!
This week's episode covers what I might be doing that's different than what you're doing, duplication, iBuyers, and one big goof with my first seller.
This episode includes the 8th mindset lesson from the book by Og Mandino, 'The Greatest Salesman in the Worl.' In a nutshell, the lesson asks us to consider our ability to multiply our value by setting long and short-term goals, building on our successes, and getting used to saying our goals out loud. In addition, I talk a bit about my constant stream of leads, the Lighthouse Strategy, the fate of real estate agents, and why I joined eXp.
This episode speaks to some of the many reasons why new real estate agents might not make it in the industry. I just returned from a camping trip to Gila National Forest that provided an entertaining background for the episode. We know that roughly 4 out of 5 new agents won't make it. Check out this episode for some insights about why this might be the case.
This episode is all about a relationship scare I had this week and the resulting pivot in my business, mindset, and this podcast. Sometimes we think we've got it all figured out, which is usually not the case, at least for me anyway! Also included in this episode is a brief breakdown of Pareto's Principle, otherwise known as the 80/20 rule, which has made a dramatic appearance in my real estate business. Check out an amazing podcast, 'MicroFamous' by Matt Johnson.
Have you ever wondered what a new real estate agent makes? In this episode, I lay out what I've made after being in the industry for 8 months. Spoiler alert, it's not very impressive!
How do you react when the little things start to go wrong? What about the big things? This mindset lesson from 'The Greatest Salesman in the World' helps us deal with the moments when things aren't going the way we hoped. It's inevitable that you are going to have moments when life just isn't going the way you hoped. In real estate, especially, it is important to maintain your composure and handle these moments professionally and competently.
This episode is all about your sphere of influence. As a real estate agent, your SOI is extremely important and according to NAR, it accounts for about 42% of your business. In this episode, we will define it, talk about how to best organize it, and finally share a couple of ways to nurture and stay top of mind with the people in it. Make sure to stick around for the part where I talk about a recent FAIL with my own SOI!
This episode is another mindset lesson from the book by Og Mandino entitled "The Greatest Salesman in the World." The premise is that our emotions are like the ups and downs of nature (the tides come in and go out). There are just going to be times when our emotional wheel is turned more towards sadness or negativity than joy and positivity. This episode is about handling those times when our emotions are interfering with our work and productivity.
It's no secret that if you want to learn something, the best move is to find an expert and learn from them. So, why should you listen to me, a relatively new real estate agent who is not an expert? This episode is all about my answers to that question.
This episode picks up with Og Mandino's book entitled, "The Greatest Salesman in the World." The big takeaway for this episode revolves around what you CAN and CAN NOT control. Many people waste their time obsessing about the past or the future which is out of our control. Learning to stay present and take care of the work that can be accomplished now is a huge advantage for anyone! So, do you let fear consume your productive hours during the day?
Do you know what Circle Prospecting is? This episode explains the strategy and attempts to answer the question of whether or not it's a good option for new agents!
This is the 4th mindset lesson from the book by Og Mandino entitled, "The Greatest Salesman in the World." The underlying idea is that YOU are unique - there has never been another person like you. So, the question is, what is unique or different about you and how can you use THAT to set yourself apart from others and win clients? As a new real estate agent, you might be inclined to blend in and do exactly what everybody else does. Og Mandino would say that's like choosing to be a lump of coal rather than a lump of gold! There is value is all things rare and different, this mindset lesson is all about embracing what's special about you and leveraging it to your advantage.
Have you ever wondered what it's REALLY like being a real estate agent? If so, this episode is for you! Many new real estate agents getting into the business come with a set of misconceptions. There are also a number of myths out there about what it's like to be an agent. This episode speaks to 6 truths and misconceptions that you should know about if you're thinking of becoming a real estate agent. This episode is the 3rd mindset lesson takeaway from the book by Og Mandino, "The Greatest Salesman in the World." Persistence is the firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. As a new real estate agent you are going to face plenty of difficulty and opposition when you get started. Mr. Mandino has some fantastic advice about this topic and will help you understand the absolute necessity of being persistent.
As a new real estate agent, lead generation should be your first and foremost objective. Lead generation, or lead gen, is the act of finding clients and without clients, you've got nothing. In this episode we're going to take a look at the more traditional lead gen strategies from door knocking to networking events. With the current pandemic, many of these strategies are going to look a little different! Check out the episode if you're a new realtor or just looking to get into the game.
In Episode 2 we talked about the first mindset takeaway from the fabulous book by Og Mandino called "The Greatest Salesman in the World." In this episode, we will discuss the second mindset lesson from the book. We will look at the lesson through the lens of meeting with a potential client that you have never interacted with face to face. In order to win clients, especially ones that do not already KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST you, these mindset lessons give you an advantage right from the start!
Have you really thought about WHY you chose to become a real estate agent? Sure, you probably have a general reason behind getting into real estate, make money, work for yourself, etc., but currently, there are a lot of people out there telling us that having a big WHY is extremely important! In this episode, we are going to look at why this idea is so popular right now and how it can help you succeed in real estate. From helping you focus to keeping you motivated to helping you pick up the pieces when things go bad (and they will go bad sometimes), having a powerful enough WHY that resonates with you could make all the difference. Real estate is a challenging industry to get started in which is my the majority of new real estate agents are out within the first 5 years. My name Is John Pena and I am a new realtor as of January of 2020 and I created this podcast and Youtube channel to help new agents feel supported and get a strong start. We will share the best strategies, tools, tips, and advice to help you succeed in real estate and reach the goals and dreams that you've set for yourself!
This episode is a mindset lesson taken from a book by Og Mandino called "The Greatest Salesman in the World." This is one of the first books that was recommended to me by another individual in the real estate industry. There are ten lessons in the book and the first one is all about forming good habits. Since habits are involuntary, on auto-pilot if you will, they can make a huge difference in how we act and how others perceive us. As new real estate agents, how we are perceived by potential clients is very important, especially as we begin to lead gen and grow our business. In his book, Mr. Mandino spells out the importance of our habits and how they directly impact our success. And fear not, bad habits can be dropped and new habits can be formed! If you are a new real estate agent, looking for actionable tools, tips, strategies, and advice, you've come to the right place.
Welcome to the first episode of New Agent Mindset, a podcast specifically for new real estate agents. My name is John Pena and I became a licensed realtor in January of 2020, a couple weeks before the global pandemic blew up in the United States. My original intention was to start a book club locally, the New Agent Book Club, to get together with other new agents and learn from the best books out there like "Sell It Like Serhant" by Ryan Serhant, "The ONE Thing" by Gary Keller, and "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by Og Mandino. However, a book club during Coronavirus was not going to fly! Instead, I realized that there most certainly are other agents out there just getting started, so why not create a podcast and community for them? I plan to share the best strategies, tools, tips, and advice for new real estate agents while building a community to support all of us. In addition to the weekly podcast episodes that will be released, there is also a Youtube channel (New Agent Mindset), a website (newagentmindset.com), and a private Facebook group (you guessed it, New Agent Mindset). This first episode tells my story and explains some of the content that I plan to cover. If you are a new real estate agent looking for best practices and/or community support, please consider checking out the website and joining the Facebook group. I look forward to meeting you and going on this journey with you!
