SMART goal setting is a method of setting goals that is widely used in business and organizations. The acronym SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It should answer the questions of what, why and how3. Measurable: A measurable goal can be quantified or tracked in some way. This allows for progress to be monitored and the goal's achievement to be evaluated.4. Achievable: The goal should be realistic and attainable. It should be something that can be achieved with the resources and capabilities available.5. Everyone has heard of SMART Goals. They're the corporate buzzword for goal setting. The issue is, they aren't the best for goal ACHIEVEMENT. Sure, they sound good. People get really excited setting SMART goals, but then they woosh right on by and rarely are achieved. In this podcast I dig into why the SMART framework sounds good but doesn't deliver. I also teach a more effective framework to get into the meat of your goals, what actually needs to be accomplished to get you to the finish line, and how to repeatedly win.
Today we talk about the importance of goal setting, how to create SMART goals, and how to guarantee your success. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. You can see the full video of this coaching cafe on our website here. To be honest I've not paid much attention to the ‘R‘ in SMART Goal Setting, ie. making sure that the goals are REALISTIC. That is until I found myself not achieving some big goals within the timeframes that I had set. Perhaps you've experienced this in the frantic lead up to the end of last year?‘Being too realistic gets in the way of achieving big visions' was a mantra that I used to trot out and, in the past, I could be known to scowl at people who would try to be ‘too realistic' when I was coming up with big plans. And I do say IN THE PAST…thankfully not any more. There's one thing to set big goals, but it's another way of thinking to ensure that the goals are realistic and achievable. Maybe you are doing Feb-fast; maybe you've set goals at the beginning of the year; maybe you've been a bit stuck for motivation around goals or have only just now had the chance to start thinking about your goals? Whatever your motivation it's good timing to join us for the Coaching Café to take a fresh look at the value of the ‘R' in SMART and how this might benefit your own performance or the performance of your team or clients. If you are a regular, you know the vibe and the great contribution that you make to our discussions; so we look forward to welcoming you and offering you a value-packed 30 minutes each Friday. The theme of GOALS and GOAL SETTING continues in this second podcast episode of 2022. Why?! Well it's not because goal setting should only occur in the month of January (it is a year round, life long endeavour!) but the collective energy and hope of a new year means that you may be susceptible to thinking about what you can do differently or better (while simultaneously acknowledging how fabulous you are already!) So what are some of your goals this year? Achieving a 2.1 in your degree / an A A B at A-level / securing an apprenticeship within tech? Getting fit enough to run 10k?Writing a book? We have so many varied and wonderful goals and in this episode I talk about a popular goal setting method known as SMART. I also talk about how powerful goal methodologies like SMART can not only increase you chances of achieving your ambitions but they can also have a positive impact on your mental health. Sugar Freedom Series: DAY THREEGet SmartNow it’s time to create goals. This will help you put yourself in theright mindset. Remember, your goals should be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-specific). For example, your ultimate goal is to stop eating sugar. You haveto be more specific! Say that that chocolate is your Achilles' heel, sobreak it down by saying that you are only going to have chocolate ondays that start with an “S”, then move to just once a week, then just one time onone day per week, etc., and set target dates. Think specifically andPractically. I’ve said this many many times but small hinges turn big doors. Don’t try to change too many things at one time. I’ve seen this a lot with my clients. They want to start a new eating plan, plus Intermittent fasting, plus drink ½ their body weight in water daily and start training for a 5k…..slow down. Pick one goal then one step to get you there. And sis...it’s not going to happen overnight, but it’s incrediblydiscouraging when you set unrealistic goals you can’t reach them because they are too big or too many. Another mindset shift that helps in this regard is instead of thinking,“I need to quit sugar immediately,” think “Today, I will focus onchanging these habits, so I will eat some strawberries for a snack insteadof a candy bar.” One day at a time. “Setting goals and figuring out how to do that is called goal estimating because often it's just really hard to figure out how to set goals. How are you doing? How long do you set them for, and so what ends up happening is we don't really Think about it, we just set goals, like what we do with New Year's resolutions, we just throw things into the air as wishes.” - Kellan FluckigerListen to more episodes of Your Ultimate Life: your-ultimate-life-by-kellan-fluckiger.simplecast.com What you are about to learnHow do we go about setting goals, and why would we set them anyway? You don't have to. You don't have to set goals if you don't want to. This is not compulsory. We are not setting up a goal because someone requires us to have one or because your friends have it, or it’s because you see someone has it on their list. You set goals because you want to like you don't have to do anything. You do not have to do anything. Now there are consequences with doing or not doing certain things like if I don't get up and go to work when I had a job. And eventually, I'll lose it. And there are consequences to that financially, and in taking care of whomever, I'm responsible for. But you don't have to set goals. If you choose to, this is something to remember that you want to set a goal. You have a choice right now about how to do this, how to set goals. So if you're going to set them at all, set them because you want to set a goal, or more goals than one, because it's something you want to do. You want to do it because your deep spiritual inner real voice is saying I want that. Whatever it is right now because it's a leftover story from somebody else.Do what by when? If you're going to set them effectively. Now there are all kinds of goal setting tools that exist. One that I've heard used a lot is set SMART goals. And that is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, achievable. Get it on your calendar. So the buy when an element is critical. Again, if you want to have it done by a particular period. Now, often those by whims are externally imposed because someone at work or in some other capacity that you are working with or is depending on that there's a particular deadline. But the real point is figuring out the do what? So how do you do this? How do you set worthy, audacious, challenging stretch goals that are not ridiculous, but the challenge is to stretch us without risking, self-esteem, and being damaged by failure? Well, the answer is easy to carry a big blanket of forgiveness. Here's the way I think of it. Those who dare substantially are going to fail much. If you dare to declare and try great things, you're going to fall on your face, and you're going to fail once, twice, three times, four times ten times. how you interpret the story you carry and create around that failure is going to be crucial to whether or not you try again, and eventually succeed. Key Takeaways“There's no such thing as failure. You only fail when you quit trying. So what have you really got to lose except not achieving the goal? If you choose to keep trying, you will eventually get there. So, the way I describe it is always to carry big blanket forgiveness if you dare greatly, and you declare greatly. And then you flop. You forgive yourself, you set a new goal, and you recommit, and we don't carry the story of failure as an indictment of yourself. The truth is, most people don't dare and declare greatly. They would rather live in shrunken mediocrity.” Connect with Kellan on your favorite platforms:Facebook: www.facebook.com/kellan.fluckiger3YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/ultimatelifeformulaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kellanfluckigerTwitter: https://twitter.com/kellanfluckigerYou can find out more about Kellan and how he can help you achieve your ultimate life by checking out his website.Subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, iHeartRADIO, or anywhere else you listen to your podcasts. If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts

Build Your Best Life Step 1: Have a deep and meaningful understanding of where we want to be. The first thing we have to do is develop a baseline. In this case, a basic goal to get us started. Most people start with a general goal like, “I want to feel better” or “I want to lose some weight”. The first thing we need to do is to break the goal down to something more specific.

Podcast 6 - SMART Goal Setting.
On Episode 3, Erin McGuire chats about SMART goal setting: how to set goals of all shapes and sizes that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Goals play so many roles in an athletic setting. They’re challenging yet motivational, they contribute to confidence and rewarding once achieved. Goals are not one size fits all: they can be set in many shapes and sized. Result goals refer to a specific outcome; a ribbon, placing, or score. Result goals are quantitative. Performance goals are the process: your personal best, skill execution. Short-term goals take days, weeks, or months to achieve while long term goals take months to years, though the actual length of the goal is relative. We can also set BIG goals- goals that are going to take a lot to achieve, career accomplishments, and smaller goals- stepping stones towards our bigger goals. Goals are a necessary tool for any athlete, but they’re not a free-for-all. Goals should be set with an accountable standard, just as they hold their athlete accountable. Enter the S.M.A.R.T. Model. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time bound. Specific: what do you want to achieve? Measurable: How will you track your progress. Achievable: is this goal within your capability? what steps will you take to achieve this goal? Relevant? Why does this goal matter? Time-bound: what’s your deadline? It’s one thing to set a goal, it’s another thing to follow through. The SMART model is a great way to determine if your goals are worth achieving. This model can be applied to all goals: performance goals, result goals, long and short term, big and little. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE. In the first Become a Media Maven podcast episode of 2019, I’m talking about goal setting. SMART goal setting. I’m breaking down how I set my goals and break them down to ensure every last task gets put in my calendar… because if it’s not in the calendar, it’s not getting done. "What's the point in setting goals? I never hit them anyways..." I said that to myself every month for 5 years. I'd either set a goal, look at it, and then think it was silly to even try OR I'd freeze in fear after I set the goal and not know why. I got to a point where I was so sick of tired of never hitting my goals that I didn't even set goals for myself because deep down, I didn't believe that I could achieve them.I finally had a MASSIVE breakthrough because I started setting goals in a way that actually excited me... It's WAY different than you might think. https://www.bradbizjack.com/blog/smartgoals

Thank you to all of my current subscribers! Remember that September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Remind the men in your life over the age of 55 to talk with their healthcare provider about prostate cancer screening. My late husband and father both died from prostate cancer. So, please have a discussion with the men in your life who are 55 or older. Let's get started... So, you might be saying, Mickie, I usually do my exercise goals in January when I create my resolutions. Why do I need to do this again? You need to be updating your fitness goals regularly and the Fall season is a great time to do that because we start moving less (staying indoors more) and eating more. Your exercise goals aren't homework or a drag. They're important and will only take a few minutes of your time. This is your health we're talking about. I can't tell you what goals to set but I'm going to give you the framework and mindset you need to have to create goals that will work and get you results. Then, I'll give you the tips from the American Council on Exercise on how to create your fitness goals. And I'll also share a few of my own fitness goals so you can see an example of how it's done so you can get the most benefit out of your exercise goals. The Things to Think About When You Set Your Fitness Goals: Don't Compare Yourself to Anyone Else This is YOUR fitness journey—your time and your efforts—your goals need to be specific to you. Resist the urge to compare yourself to someone else. One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was don't compare your start to someone else's middle…or end or beginning. It doesn't work because we're all at a different place. Comparing yourself to someone else will suck the life right out of you because there are other factors at play that you're not aware of. Don't Be a Wimp—You're in Charge of Challenging Yourself Girls, you have to challenge yourself physically. No one is going to do it for you. You know how you get to go to your kid's basketball game and tell them they weren't focused or didn't give 100% or gave up too soon…etc. Uh huh…turn all that advice back on yourself today and get focused and give it your all by challenging yourself. Set the bar high with your fitness goals. Give 100% and don't give up. Set Mini Goals as well as Yearly Goals You can keep weekly goals on your calendar. And you can make mini goals with yourself within each workout (for example, to use heavier weights or take shorter rest breaks, run at a faster pace, etc.). Be Realistic You're not in high school anymore. Don't create goals that are going to set you up to fail. Strive for total body health from head to toe, inside and out. Try not to focus on a specific body part. Remember your Fitness Goals Aren't Set in Stone They aren't like the way you feel about broccoli or beets (never changing) but more like your life…always changing. Don't be stubborn because you get a new job that screws up your workout schedule. You're only hurting yourself if you don't make adjustments when you need to so that you can stay on track. Tips for Creating Your Fitness Goals (by the American Council on Exercise) Be Specific—make sure your goals are clear and easy to understand Make Sure Your Fitness Goals Are Measurable Be Relevant-make sure your goals are relevant for where you are in your life right now Have an Endpoint—make goals that have end dates so you can reevaluate how you're doing all the time. A Few of My Personal Fitness Goals Add a 3-5 mile run to my workout twice a week Try at least one new exercise style Be able to do 10 pull ups Maintain my current weight Drink 8 oz more water/day So, you see these fitness goals are specific, challenging, realistic and measurable. Take the time to create your own fitness goals. It'll help you. Today's Fun Tip is to Create Some ‘Fun' Life Goals Life is stressful and complicated and if you're not careful you'll go through life without a smile on your face or ever laughing. Don't let that be you. Here are a few of my fun goals: Take a first class flight Take a circus class Have a costume party Have the courage to sing karaoke Create a list of your fun life goals. There is a thin line between desires and goals. And while it's commendable to dream big, it's not realistic to go from zero to one hundred in one shot. I’ve identified that the most important thing for me to accomplish in 2012 is to get more sleep. In a recent conversation with my best friend of nearly 30 years, she pointed out something she has observed repeatedly through the years: Whenever I don’t get enough sleep, I have a variety of negative results which dramatically reduce my productivity. Listen to how I will use the Productive Environment 5-step process to overcome this.
We have a great line up for you this year while bringing you the issue which matter most to your wallet.
