In today's episode we discuss all things goaltending in the Conference Finals. We comment on how goalies are currently playing, and the panic around goalies when they have (or the team has) a tough game. Then, we comment on depth management and reaction time, and strengths that smaller goalies in today's NHL possess that allow them to excel. Finally, we dive into the mentality that the goalies in these conference finals have that allows them to play at the top of their game under such immense pressure. Thank you so much for listening. With many of our goalies just finishing "tryout season", we discuss off-season training following tryouts. Whether you were selected for the team or cut is not as important as the work you do after that. The work you put in during the upcoming offseason and season of hockey will determine your future far more than making any one team will. We talk about how to manage your offseason and season for improvement, and the proper mindset to have every day to reach your goals. Then, we briefly discuss Round 2 Stanley Cup goaltending performances, and break down some of the goals in the Panthers/Leafs game 7. Thank you so much for watching!! In today's episode we discuss Hellebuyck's performance in the playoffs so far. Even though he is one of the best goalies in the world, he isn't playing his best in playoffs. We comment on why we think this might be, and common reasons goalies may be off their game. Then we discuss what our remedy might be to get him back to playing at the Vezina level he typically does. After that, we once again address the criticism around the media regarding Stuart Skinner's performance in the playoffs thus far. In this week's episode, we break down Igor Shesterkin's shiny new 8 year by $11.5 million contract, and what it means for the New York Rangers going forward. We discuss comments made on social media that goalies don't deserve big contracts, and why we disagree with them. Finally, we evaluate the goaltending selections for the 4 Nations Faceoff tournament, and what goalies we feel may have been left out.
In our first episode back in a couple weeks, we discuss Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets' hot start to the season, and why he and the team are so good to kick the season off. Then we comment on the NHL preseason's "Top 10 Goalies Right Now List", and whether we agree with all of the goalies on it. Thankfully, it's not as bad as we thought. Finally, we talk about playing pucks that are rung around the glass, and the pros and cons of doing so. We don't think it's the best idea. Thank you all for listening and the continued feedback-- we really appreciate it!!
In this episode, we discuss the new contract offered by the Boston Bruins to Jeremy Swayman, and speculate on why he turned it down, and how much he actually may want. Then, we compare that contract to other elite goalies' contracts around the league, and whether we think that is a fair contract for him. Are the Bruins being cheap, or is he asking for too much? Finally, we talk about Hellebuyck's tough preseason performance, and Austin reflects on a game in which he was involved in multiple fights, while giving up multiple goals.
In this episode, we discuss a crazy stat by Jeremy Swayman from last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs. Then we talk about the goalie battle brewing in Calgary between three good, but unproven, NHL goaltenders. Next, we comment on how Marc Andre Fleury can help the young Minnesota goaltenders heading into his final NHL season. And finally, we predict how Markstrom's season will go as a new member of the New Jersey Devils.
In this episode, we discuss 4 ways that you can be the best goalie partner possible. Being a great goalie partner not only leads to team success, but individual success as well. We give reasons for why when you have a goalie tandem in which both goalies work well together, they both reap massive benefits, no matter who is starting. And we comment on why when they don't work well together, both goalies, and the team, are worse because of it.
In this episode, we discuss Austin's road back from hip surgery, and how to recover from hip surgery as fast as possible. Then, we go into benefits of taking time off the ice in the off-season, and getting back into a rhythm on the ice in preparation for the season.
In this episode, we break down the Goals Saved Above Expected stat used to evaluate goaltenders, and the variables that go into determining an Expected Goal Against. Then we look into this stat and others, such as High Danger Save Percentage, for NHL goalies throughout this past regular season and playoffs. We comment on whether or not we think it is a totally fair and accurate stat with which to determine goaltenders' abilities compared to others. Then we discuss in season protein intake and eating habits that we follow to help maintain peak performance throughout the hockey season.
In this episode, we reflect on our recent goalie camp this past weekend in Jacksonville Florida. Then, we break down a comment from BelfourFan001 on one of our recent videos, which brings an interesting stat into play that we hadn't thought of before. Thank you so much to BelfourFan001 for the insightful comment. It really pushed us this episode. Then, Austin comments on his reaction to the recent Henrik Lundqvist documentary, "Open Heart", and why every athlete and sports fan should watch it. Please leave comments on any topic you would like us to discuss. We do read them, and still have a few we have not gotten to!
Today we are joined by a surprise guest, Birmingham Bulls defenseman Taylor Brierley. We discuss topics from a player's mentality, and what they are thinking in different situations. Then, we take a deep dive into the most effective way to break up a 2 on 1 rush as a defenseman, and how to navigate the little nuances that each rush may include. After that, we share thoughts on how to best coach young hockey players to help them improve and reach their goals!!
In this episode, we discuss how to deal with losses and frustrating moments as a goaltender, and how not to. We mention how different athletes respond to frustration and anger, and why that makes them the best at what they do. Then, we get into why we disagree with three of hockey's goaltending legends on a recent trending topic.
We apologize for some of the audio issues throughout the episode. With it being our first episode out in "the field", we knew it wouldn't be perfect. Thank you for your patience, and constant support!!
