Episode 323 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features another fantastic interview with ex-NHL goalie turned analyst and coach Steve Valiquette. In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Valiquette takes us behind the scenes of a summer spent coaching goalies (and inevitably shooters too), walking us through how he translates the scoring chance insights from his data company, Clear Sight Analytics, into on-ice drills over the course of an offseason. Mix those specifics in with stories and anecdotes from his playing days and lessons from New York Rangers goalie Benoit Allaire and legend Henrik Lundqvist, who is also now a sometimes broadcast partner on MSG, and it truly is a can't miss interview. In this week's Parent Segment, presented by Stop It Goaltending U the App, we talk about why the importance of having a game-day routine and enabling your kids to develop -- and stick to -- it themselves. We also review this week's Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, with Devin Cooley of the Calgary Flames explaining some of his keys to managing a tall stance and the importance of visual leads. And in our weekly gear segment, we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a closer look at a new CCM Vision stick that was so good Dustin Wolf wouldn't give back his demo last season.
Part 3 shifts from chat-fueled fireworks to a nuts-and-bolts look at how modern hockey cards get made. We dig into why players sometimes miss checklists, how budget and foiling choices shape designs, balancing beloved inserts (Jambalaya, Platinum Portraits) against over-saturation, and what it takes to engineer the “next PMG.” We also touch on PWHL product plans and why thoughtful innovation matters more than ever. Highlights Live-room energy: 200+ in chat, quick nods to a Marc-André Fleury “swan song” moment and a Barkov knee news blip What companies can actually do for collectors: concrete, collector-first thinking from the product side Checklist realities: autographs, game-used, licensing/approvals, and why “just add Player X” isn't simple Cost vs wow-factor: spectrum deco foil, high-gloss choices, and why some designs get cut to hit budgets Insert strategy: keeping Jambalaya/Platinum Portraits special while avoiding annual overuse and fatigue Designing a new chase: how “Liquid Gold” became a true insert hit (tough odds, no parallels) and the blueprint for future chases PWHL roadmap: building excitement without copy-pasting NBA/WNBA formulas; fresh mechanics for a new audience Family/on-ramp ideas: hobby “quests,” living-set vibes, and gamified projects that bring kids into collecting Player-collector lens: why team/player collectors still want firsts (e.g., a legend's first Jambalaya) even if the theme returns Learn more about your ad choices. What makes a truly great teammate? It's not just about scoring goals or making big plays—it's about how you treat the people around you.In this episode of The Ride to the Rink, PWHL stars Taylor Heise and Hayley Scamurra share powerful stories about what it means to be the kind of teammate that others never forget. From offering encouragement and building confidence to accepting challenges and learning from mistakes, they remind us that being a great teammate is about character, respect, and care for others.Taylor talks about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and challenge you, while Hayley reflects on how different influences (both tough love and warm support) helped shape her into the player and person she is today. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why the best teammates aren't always the most skilledHow encouragement and honesty both make teams strongerThe balance between surrounding yourself with cheerleaders and challengersWhy confidence in others is just as important as confidence in yourselfThe simple ways you can make a teammate's day—on or off the iceNo matter your age or skill level, this episode is a reminder: you don't need hockey skills to be a great teammate—you just need to care.
How do you build a professional women's hockey league from the ground up — and convince the sport's best players, skeptical investors, and hungry fans that this time it's built to last? CBC Sports journalist Karissa Donkin, author of "Breakaway: The PWHL and the Women Who Changed the Game," helps us dive into the backstory of the incredible Professional Women's Hockey League. Donkin traces the roots of the PWHL back to the collapse of the Canadian Women's Hockey League in 2019 and the rise of the Professional Women's Hockey Players' Association, whose “Dream Gap” tours kept women's hockey in the spotlight when no stable league existed. She also unpacks the complicated legacy of North American professional women's leagues: the original National Women's Hockey League (1999–2007), and the later NWHL launched in 2015 — the first U.S.-based league to pay salaries — which eventually rebranded as the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). The overlap of these leagues, combined with the PWHPA's touring circuit, splintered talent and divided attention, but it also highlighted what was missing: a single, unified, and financially sustainable league. These years of struggle, advocacy, and experimentation ultimately set the stage for the PWHL's 2023 launch. We'll explore how the Mark Walter Group, Billie Jean King, and a coalition of powerful allies turned that vision into reality, and why the league's first collective bargaining agreement matters so much for players seeking true professional standards. Donkin also unpacks the drama and exhilaration of the inaugural 2024 season — from record-breaking crowds to the intensity of Boston–Montreal showdowns — and explains how the league is balancing rapid growth with the need for long-term sustainability. Finally, we look ahead: what does expansion to markets like Vancouver and Seattle mean for the league's future? How will the PWHL navigate the ongoing battles for sponsorship, broadcast exposure, and cultural relevance in a crowded sports marketplace? And most importantly, how will the next generation of girls growing up with the PWHL on TV — and in their hometown arenas — reshape what professional hockey looks like in North America? + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable The "Good Seats" Store: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "Breakaway: The PWHL and the Women Who Changed the Game": https://amzn.to/3IL81bu SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 FIND AND FOLLOW: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/GoodSeatsStillAvailable Web: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/good-seats-still-available/

Callers suggested deals with gambling companies might be propping up the league. In other sports news, the Yankees lost in Toronto with more fielding issues, and George Springer hit two homers, including a grand slam. The hour concluded with news that NBA player Malik Beasley is under federal investigation for a potential sports betting scandal, prompting a caller to criticize leagues for their involvement with sportsbooks. News updates included Red Panda's unicycle fall and George Springer's dominant performance against the Yankees. A caller suggested betting on WNBA "unders" based on players' menstrual cycles. Finally, a Queens driving school was exposed for illegal licenses, prompting a Google search for NYC's gambling revenue allocation, which largely funds public schools. NBA free agency sees the Knicks' roster seemingly set and LeBron's agent claiming four teams are interested. A man shared his story of leaving his fiancée for an HR colleague. Updates included the Blue Jays beating the Yankees, the Nets introducing draft picks, and Gio predicting a terrible Dolphins season and Mike McDaniel's firing.
