Send us Fan MailHow do you stay in the game for more than 20 years as a professional goalie? In this episode of The Goalie Mindset Podcast, Pete Fry sits down with former pro goaltender Brett Jaeger, who built a career that lasted over two decades across North America and Europe.Brett shares his journey from growing up in a tiny town in northern Alberta to playing junior hockey, pro hockey in the ECHL and CHL, and eventually building a long career overseas in England, Denmark, and Germany. What makes this conversation powerful is how honest it is.Brett talks about getting thrown into tough situations early, facing 60–70 shots a night as a teenager, struggling through difficult stretches, and learning how to stay mentally steady through it all.Pete and Brett get into:Why playing on weaker teams can actually help goalies growThe importance of competing, even when things aren't going wellWhat Brett learned from guys like Robb Tallas and John StevensonWhy stretching and recovery helped extend his careerHow confidence and mindset become more important as you move up levelsThe difference between talented goalies and mentally tough goaliesBrett also shares a great message for goalie parents and coaches. Goalies already put enough pressure on themselves. They need support, trust, and room to work through adversity, not embarrassment or panic after every mistake. One of the best lines from the episode comes from Glenn Hall, who once signed Brett's blocker with this message:“Don't be afraid to sweat.”That pretty much sums up this whole conversation.

There are coaches… there are builders… and then there are legacy-makers.This episode of 3 Old Goalies steps into rare air.We sit down with a man whose career isn't just measured in wins and losses, but in lives impacted, programs built, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. From the sidelines to the classroom to the boardroom, Woody Gibson's journey is a masterclass in what it truly means to give back to the game that gave you everything. At High Point University, Gibson didn't just coach soccer… he helped shape an entire athletic department. Over nearly four decades, he wore just about every hat imaginable: head coach, athletic director, professor, mentor. And somehow, he made each role feel like it was the most important one in the world. On the field, he built winners. • 200+ career wins as a men's soccer coach • Multiple conference titles • National tournament appearances year after yearOff the field? That's where his impact echoes the loudest.Woody Gibson is the kind of leader who believes players were students first, people always. A coach who taught lessons that lasted longer than any season. A mentor who viewed success not as trophies, but as the ripple effect of investing in others. And that mindset didn't stop at soccer. From helping guide High Point's transition through multiple NCAA levels… to building academic programs… to serving on national committees… to continuing his work in nonprofit leadership and veteran support… his story is one long, steady drumbeat of service.

The guys are at 84 Lumber Anderson Showroom in Mt. Lebanon today! Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joins at the top, and they discuss which teams the Penguins do (or do not) want to face in the playoffs. Is Philadelphia a team you'd want to avoid? Where do Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby rank among the best players of all-time?
The Penguins have a chance, in 3 different ways, to make the playoffs tonight for the first time since the 2021-2022 season. A win gets it done the easy way, but they can also get in with 1 point or no points in the event of losses around the eastern conference. What a job by Dan Muse. Where does it rank among best coaching jobs in the last 10 years of Pittsburgh sports? The back-to-back Cup runs by Mike Sullivan probably take the cake. Mike Tomlin has had a few good ones, too. But Muse has turned things around faster than we ever anticipated. A season in which the Penguins did not have Sidney Crosby for 70 games or Evgeni Malkin for 60 games is on the doorstep of a playoff berth. Poni doesn't like how Dan Muse is handling the current goaltending situation. Who should get the nod in the playoffs? A funny lookalike conversation. Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason thinks the reality for Paul Skenes is that he is headed to a major market within the next 5 years, but that doesn't mean there is zero attempt to keep him around. Will we see a revamped MLB system that could benefit the Pirates? Jason gave his take to an online battle regarding the Pirates signing of Konnor Griffin as a common practice. Did one side cave more in the Griffin negotiations? The guys didn't like the pulling of Mitch Keller after 75 pitches, followed by the bullpen immediately giving up runs. Jason told us about Keller doing Pilates in the offseason that may have an impact on what he's doing so far. Was Keller OK with being done after 6 innings yesterday? Jason broke down the season of Oneil Cruz so far, which has seen lowlights in the outfield, but highlights at the plate.

New York Rangers analyst and CEO of Clear Sight Analytics Steve Valiquette (3:22) joins Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne to chat about building culture within a hockey club, where it starts from within an organization, leaning on talent vs. character players, why the schedule doesn't work in Columbus Blue Jackets' favour for them to sneak into a playoff spot, what has gone wrong in Tristan Jarry's game, the reasons for the Edmonton Oilers to declare Connor Ingram as their starting goaltender down the stretch, and who will lead the Montreal Canadiens in net. Then on Grill Marks, Vally asks which players have had the most low-danger goals, which defenseman has had high-danger chances without converting a goal, and more! Afterwards, Nick, Justin and Sam McKee discuss Doug Armstrong's decision to step down as general manager of the Canadian men's hockey team and who could be next. Hour 1 with Joe Starkey: Are the Penguins the biggest story in Pittsburgh sports today? They smacked the Avs 7-2. Austin thinks the World Baseball Classic is close to that. Dom thinks the biggest story is the Steelers not signing Kyler Murray. Joe thinks that the single biggest reason for this Penguins run is Fenway Sports Group. What the Penguins may need to do in the NHL playoffs!

In this podcast episode, St. Lawrence University head coach Chris Wells discusses his deep-rooted connection to the Saints women's hockey program and the unique community of Canton, New York. As a local native and alumnus, Wells highlights the "small-town USA" charm of the university, where a $20 million renovation of the historic Appleton Arena has provided top-tier facilities while maintaining a close-knit, supportive environment. He attributes the program's success—including recent NCAA tournament runs and victories over Big 10 teams—to the remarkable stability of his coaching staff, many of whom have worked together for nearly two decades. Facing a developmental season with nine freshmen, Wells emphasizes a coaching philosophy built on transparency, data-driven practice feedback, and a "family first" culture that transforms the isolated North Country setting into a competitive advantage for player growth and recruitment. You can learn more about and the St. Lawrence University Women's Ice Hockey program here: https://saintsathletics.com/sports/womens-ice-hockey You can connect with Chris Wells on the SLU website: https://saintsathletics.com/staff-directory/chris-wells/42 or via Chris Wells Champs App profile: https://profile.champs.app/h/chris-wellsFollow Chris Wells or the St. Lawrence University Women'sHockey team on X: @SLUCWells and @slu_whockeyand Instagram: @slusaintshockey===================Champs App is your recruiting and development copilot.
