Read OnlineJesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith. Mark 6:4–6It's an old expression that “familiarity breeds contempt.” It is often easier to harbor contempt for those closest to us than to offer admiration. This dynamic frequently manifests itself among relatives, neighbors, and friends. The “contempt” might remain subtle, without clear outward expression. Yet, when those close to us are honored, it is often easier to call to mind their faults than to join in their praise. These feelings, if left unchecked, not only harm human relationships but also blinds us to the workings of grace in those closest to us.Today's Gospel tells the story of Jesus returning to His hometown of Nazareth after beginning His public ministry. Soon after He was baptized and emerged from the desert, Jesus began gathering disciples, preaching authoritatively, and performing miracles. Though His ministry began in Capernaum, about twenty miles northeast of Nazareth, word spread quickly about Him, leaving the people of Nazareth uncertain about what to think. When Jesus returned to Nazareth for the first time, He entered the Synagogue and read from the Prophet Isaiah, declaring that the “Spirit of the Lord” was upon Him (cf. Luke 4:18). Mark's version of the event, which we read today, tells us that “many who heard him were astonished.” They asked one another, “‘Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary…?' And they took offense at him” (Mark 6:2–3).Their refusal to believe stemmed not from Jesus but from their inability to reconcile the Jesus they thought they knew—a carpenter, a local boy—with the Jesus who now spoke with divine wisdom and authority. The reaction of the people of Nazareth reveals the danger of clinging to preconceived notions about others, which blinds us to God's presence in the ordinary. When you consider the people with whom you are familiar, do you exhibit a similar tendency? Do you struggle to recognize Christ at work in family members, friends, or even within yourself? Familiarity can make us dismissive, but it also invites us to look more deeply for the divine, even in what appears humble and mundane. We must approach everyone we know with eyes of faith, searching for the presence of Christ, despite their weaknesses and sins. As Jesus reminds us, “Seek and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). This exhortation extends to seeking Christ in the people around us, especially those closest to us.This can be difficult. We are often tempted to focus on faults rather than goodness in others. The tendency is well illustrated in social media. Sensational and shocking posts draw our attention far more than uplifting and inspiring ones. This reveals the fallen human inclination, much like the people of Nazareth, to reject goodness and the deeper truth we are called to see. We often want others to fail as a way of feeling better about ourselves. Among the people of Nazareth, despite Jesus' perfection, those who knew Him allowed their preconceived judgments to blind them, leading to their rejection of Him as the Messiah. This reaction challenges us to examine our own hearts. How often do we fail to recognize Christ's presence in those closest to us? Reflect today on those closest to you and ponder how easily you seek and find Christ in them. Everyone you know—including yourself—is a sinner. It's easy to find fault and dwell on it, even sometimes when there is no fault to be found—such as with Jesus at Nazareth. Prayerfully reject that fallen human tendency and embrace the mission of seeking Christ in others, for “the one who seeks, finds.” Seek Jesus everywhere and celebrate the Good News of His ongoing presence in our world, especially in the lives of those with whom you are most familiar. My omnipresent Lord, You reveal Yourself to me in countless ways—through the Sacraments, Your holy Word, and the lives of those around me, especially those closest to me. Grant me the grace to seek You each day with faith and love, that I may find You in the hearts and actions of those You have placed in my life. Transform my vision, Lord, so that I may see Your presence even in the ordinary and humbly respond with gratitude and trust. Welcome to Heart of the Matter Radio/Podcast. Today we're looking at a sensational story. It's Michelle Rickett's story. She's the woman behind She is Safe. Before she fought modern day slavery, she survived abuse and had every right to let bitterness consume her. However, she chose a different path. She didn't just survive, she forgave and that action set her free That led her and her husband to build an organization that battles trafficking across the globe. Her mercy became a weapon for justice.. As we move into 2026, a milestone year of American libery, we have to ask a question. Is it possible that our greatest impact on the world is hidden behind the person we are most afraid to forgive? I'm Cynthia L Simmons, and I write about the intersection of history and faith, and the moral courage that changes our world. Today, we are going behind the scenes of a true story that proves mercy isn't weakness. Let's dive in.

Sensational ambient techno, dub pressure and acoustic visions, sculpted for dreaming and dancing. In 2023, we called Mariachiara Troianiello one of techno's most exciting producers. And time has only confirmed that statement. Belonging to a new school of head-spinning artists following in the lineage of Donato Dozzy and Cio D'or, the Turin producer put out her debut EP as Katatonic Silentio, Emotional Gun, in 2019, exploring breakbeat and IDM through a distinctly introspective lens. Since then, her evolution has been striking: from hyperkinetic, post-rave intensity to the sound design-rich tapestries heard on releases for Delsin, Ilian Tape and Mantis. At first glance, Troianiello's RA Mix ends on an unlikely note: "Technologystolemyvinyle," Moodymann's gloriously disjointed 2007 house cut. But this is a mix best understood in two halves. The opening stretch leans heavily into acoustic, organic sonics before kick drums gradually emerge in the second half. Even at its most stripped back, RA.1021 feels full-bodied: immersive, meditative and transportive. There's also an unmistakable sense of freedom throughout, the sound of throwing caution to the wind, playing purely on instinct and joy. It's the feeling of being invited into Troianiello's inner world, and revelling in it together. That unguarded spirit defines RA.1021. Find the tracklist and Q&A at ra.co/podcast/1040

Beloved,Darkness isn't an external enemy waiting to be defeated. It's what arises when awareness softens or drifts—when we momentarily turn away from the clarity that is always available to us.Nothing has gone wrong. We've simply lost touch with what is already here.Judgment, resentment, and fear all work the same way. They narrow perception. They pull our attention into contraction.Yet the moment resistance eases, clarity doesn't need to be forced or earned—it returns on its own.Awareness naturally restores itself when we stop fighting what is.This is why fear has become such an effective tool in media and messaging.Sensational headlines are designed to bypass discernment and activate something ancient in us—the instinct that equates the unknown with danger.Once fear is engaged, attention fragments, and presence dissolves.Predictions and forecasts then step in, offering the illusion of control. They promise certainty in exchange for our focus. But real influence isn't found in trying to manage an imagined future. It lives in where we place our attention right now. What we consistently focus on shapes how we perceive, respond, and create.Grounded attention opens us.When we stop reacting to old stories or projected outcomes, something quiet and powerful emerges. We stop amplifying noise and begin generating light—clarity, steadiness, and coherence that ripple outward without effort.Even artificial intelligence mirrors this truth. It reflects what it's given.Feed it fear, and it amplifies fear.Feed it curiosity, openness, and discernment, and it responds in kind. The same dynamic plays out within us and in the world around us.The shift we're being invited into isn't about striving harder or assigning blame. It's about living with intention—choosing thoughts, actions, and inputs that uplift rather than constrict. This isn't a moral stance. It's a practical one.Groundedness simply means being here. Not trapped by the past. Not pulled into imagined futures.Just present enough to respond to what's actually unfolding. From this place, clarity guides us naturally. And when you notice yourself drifting into fear or judgment—as we all do—the question isn't why it happened. The question is simple and gentle: what brings you back to presence the fastest? The Light Between is a reader-supported publication. China analyst and Momentum Works founder Jianggan joins Jeremy Au to break down how US–China tensions evolved through a year of tariffs, rare earth leverage, supply chain shocks, and fast-moving geopolitical swings. They examine why both sides misread each other, how Chinese companies adapted faster than expected, and why the global system settled into a tactical pause instead of a decisive split. Their discussion shows how on-the-ground China differs from Western narratives, how product iteration and factory conditions changed under competitive pressure, and why neither side can force a quick victory. Jianggan also shares insights from thirteen trips across China as he tracks e-commerce exporters, shifting macro sentiment, and the emerging negotiation patterns that shape 2026. 02:28 US tariffs aimed to hurt China but failed to break its exporters: Chinese firms diversified markets, adjusted production, and kept shipping strong volumes even as analysts expected collapse. 03:08 China deployed rare earths and soybeans as leverage: Beijing used export controls, licensing rules, and supply pivots to respond in structured tit for tat moves that surprised US policymakers. 07:04 A tactical pause replaced escalation: Both sides realized they could not win quickly, creating a fragile equilibrium shaped by low trust but stable expectations. 10:06 Factory floors tell a different story: Air-conditioned warehouses, livestreamed food production, one dollar meals, and rising worker savings show a more complex China than what headlines describe. 21:12 Chinese product cycles sped up dramatically: Exporters improved quality within a year, added more features, and stayed cheaper, putting global incumbents under real pressure. 26:26 Narratives on both sides miss the nuance: Sensational media framing and echo chambers make Americans underestimate China and make Chinese underestimate America. 29:06 TikTok deal shows coexistence is possible: Restructuring turned adversaries into stakeholders and created a template for how cross-border platforms can operate under political pressure. Scientists have made an extraordinary discovery near Perth: In the Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary, they discovered a large population of the extremely rare carnivorous plant Drosera silvicola. Curtin University doctoral student Thilo Krüger spotted the tiny species by chance as the team drove by and thus initiated the discovery. In conversation, he explains how this surprising moment came about, what significance the find has for species protection and what makes this inconspicuous but remarkable plant so special.
In this episode of The Illuminated Woman, we're diving deep into 1 Timothy chapters 1–3 — and what they reveal about living a sincere, Spirit-led life in a culture obsessed with visibility, influence, and spiritual performance. Whether you've had a platform or simply lead in your home, this message is for the woman who longs to walk in quiet strength, spiritual maturity, and God-honoring purpose.I share how the Apostle Paul's letter to Timothy speaks to modern women navigating curated social media feeds, charismatic false teachers, and the confusion of “truths” offered by New Age and self-help movements. We explore modesty, character, reverence, and why God's design for women isn't outdated — it's a call to something deeper, freer, and more beautiful. If you've ever felt unseen, misunderstood, or unsure where you fit in the church… or if you've been disillusioned by loud voices that lacked love — this episode will meet you right where you are and remind you that sincere faith still matters. What you'll learn in this episode:Why sound doctrine is an act of loveWhat modesty truly means (hint: it's about the posture of your heart, not just your clothing)The seductive influence of the Artemis cult in Ephesus — and its eerie parallels with modern-day feminine “spirituality”Why “good works” don't earn you salvation but reveal who you're walking withWhat Biblical leadership really looks like — even if you're never on a stageHow sincere women are the backbone of the church — not just the ones with microphonesWhy intercession matters and how to stand in the gap through prayerA redemptive reframing of passages often used to silence or shame women*Note* I misspoke at one point. I referenced 1 Timothy 3:13 when I meant to reference 1 Timothy 3:15. The Illuminated Connection Call is a free conversation where we talk heart to heart—no pressure, no agenda. I'd love to hear what's on your heart, where you are in your life and spiritual journey, and what you're sensing God may be stirring in you.
