The Learning Leader Show with Ryan Hawk www.LearningLeader.com The Price of Becoming is a USA Today, LA Times, and Publishers Weekly Best-Seller! www.LearningLeader.com/Becoming This is brought to you by Insight Global. If you need to hire one person, hire a team of people, or transform your business through Talent or Technical Services, Insight Global's team of 30,000 people around the world has the hustle and grit to deliver. Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS Shoes in 2006 after a trip to Argentina, where he saw children without shoes and built a company around giving away a pair for every pair sold. TOMS went on to donate more than 100 million pairs of shoes and became one of the most copied business models in the world. What most people don't know is what happened after he sold it, and I'm grateful that he was open to talking about that on this episode of The Learning Leader Show. Key Learnings Make your gratitude specific. Not "I'm grateful for my family." Name the exact thing. Blake's example from that morning: the photos the camp posted of his daughter laughing in the lake, and knowing his stoic kid does not smile like that unless she is genuinely happy. He kept the practice going for five years when he couldn't feel any of it. Blake could not name five things he was grateful for, and he had all the same things in his life he has now. He did it anyway. He credits it as one of the things that kept him going. Surfing is a great thinking practice. Surfing is mostly just sitting on the board. Three hours in the water, ten waves, maybe five minutes standing. The rest is paddling and sitting. That's why it works as a thinking practice. Capture the idea in the moment or lose it. Blake programmed the side button on his Apple Watch to open a voice memo. Every idea he has sitting on the board, he records. They're all waiting when he gets out. He hit every marker and still felt worthless. "I did everything, and I still, deep down in my soul, had this feeling like I'm not worthy, I'm not enough, and I never will be." The external validation was the drug. Selling TOMS cut off the supply. The thing that had been holding up his sense of self was suddenly gone. If you get there and it's empty, don't panic. Panicking is what Blake did, and having money meant he could make expensive mistakes fast. Build the dream house. Get divorced. One thing after another. The emptiness may be the point. Blake's read on it: if achievement delivered what society promises, you'd never go inward. Feeling hollow at the summit is what forces the inner work. He re-patterned the sentence he'd been telling himself since childhood. The old one was "you're not enough." He replaced it with "I am enough. I've always been enough." Twenty minutes every morning and every evening. Forty straight days. It worked, and he no longer needs to do it daily. Sometimes you just need a physical cue to catch the loop. That's the whole idea behind the bracelet he wears. Not magic. A reminder on your wrist that interrupts the thought. Give the second one away. Blake found the bracelet's real power was handing one to a friend. Now you're both wearing it, you're both in on it, and there's an unspoken agreement that neither of you has to have a bad day alone. Men are worse at building that than women are. Tell your kids they're enough, and keep telling them. They're going to get the opposite message from everywhere else, which is exactly why it has to come from you repeatedly. Blake says the relaxation you'll see in them is immediate. Be brutally honest about how hard the job is. Try to talk them out of it. Blake is the last interview in the process now. If he can lay out every negative and they still desperately want it, the commitment is real. "How many people did you convince not to take the role before you got the right person?" Most leaders slip into sales mode, talk the candidate into it, and end up talking themselves into the candidate. What he screens for during the interview process: Integrity first. If it isn't there, it surfaces fast now. Attitude second. The person who never says "that's not my job." Whether they're building a resume or joining a movement. Find the people who cover what you're bad at. Blake is a storyteller, a vision-sharer, and high energy. He is not a supply chain guy, not a finance guy, and he has trouble saying no. So he hired around it. That's what let him actually be the chief shoe giver instead of pretending to be a CEO. Don't wait for permission. Most people stand in line at the front door. Blake looks for side doors. In Argentina he had no investors and no plan, just an idea and the words One For One. Ryan's version for his kids: everyone can apply online. Drive to the restaurant and go talk to the manager instead. Having no experience was the advantage. He'd never made a shoe, so he didn't know which rules he was breaking. Same with outdoor advertising. Same with driver's ed. He learned it from Richard Branson: ask forgiveness, not permission. Nashville wouldn't allow advertising, so he sold art instead. Blake spent two years with the city council and got there by removing the ad from the ad. No price, no call to action. Just album covers on the sides of buildings, called country music art. Once one artist had one, they all wanted one. He sold the company to Clear Channel. You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are. Want honest friends, be honest. Want peace at home, bring peace. Want trust, practice it when nobody's watching. Blake applies it to customers too: sloppy companies attract sloppy customers, and that's usually the real reason the business fails. Charlie Munger got asked how to get a great wife. He said: deserve one. Be known for doing what you said you'd do. Early on Blake didn't have the skills, so he built the reputation on execution instead. Move fast, keep it simple, do it with integrity. Momentum is a form of trust. The other half of that is not overpromising. Blake's own failure mode is getting excited, feeling falsely confident, promising something big, and missing. When it happens, own it fast and be honest, and the relationship usually survives. Be careful using a general-purpose chatbot as a therapist. Blake's warning, and the reason the founders of Sonia built a purpose-built tool instead: the big consumer models are designed to make you feel good about yourself. If you need to hear something hard, that's the last thing you want. He went from skeptic to advisor in six months. Blake met the Sonia founders at a mental health conference, tried the app to be polite, and by the third session was getting insights he hadn't gotten elsewhere. He now spends five to ten hours a week helping them. His reason for loving the work: "Now I get to be the coach instead of the athlete." Stop chasing balance. Design for harmony. Blake picked this up from an executive at Cannes who said she'd given up on balance. He goes hard in phases. Full dad mode with the office waiting on emails. Then all in on a launch and missing things at home. The measure isn't evenly split day to day. It's whether, over a year, everyone in his life feels like they got what they needed to thrive. Including him. Reflection Questions What did you actually feel grateful for today? Not the category. The specific moment. What is the sentence you've been repeating to yourself since childhood, and is it true? In your last hire, how hard did you try to talk them out of it? Or did you spend the interview selling them, and then sell yourself? More Learning #598: Sam Parr - Bold. Fast. Fun. Have you ever been so used to feeling awful that you genuinely thought you were fine?In this episode of The BPD Bunch, Xannie Raf, Mo, Céline, and Madhurima sit down to talk about depressivity in borderline personality disorder (BPD), including the experiences they didn't always recognize as depression at the time. They talk about feeling completely numb while somehow still being in unbearable emotional pain, partying and using substances to avoid being alone with their thoughts, staying in bed for weeks, intense self-neglect, believing they were fundamentally worthless, and even convincing themselves that people only liked them because they had somehow “tricked” them. They also explore why depression sometimes became more obvious once the louder BPD behaviors began to quiet down.In this episode:* BPD and depression* BPD depressivity* Feeling empty or numb with BPD* Shame, worthlessness and self-hatred* Quiet BPD and internalized depression* Reckless behavior and substance use* Suicidal thoughts and hopelessness* BPD recovery and recognizing emotionsIf you've ever looked functional from the outside while privately wondering how much longer you could keep doing this, you may recognize yourself in this conversation. This season, we're discussing BPD through the lens of the Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD). To meet criteria for BPD in this model, a person must have difficulties in at least two areas of personality functioning (Criterion A): identity, self direction, empathy, or intimacy, along with four or more pathological personality traits (Criterion B): emotional lability, anxiousness, separation insecurity, and depressivity (which are sub-traits of negative affectivity), impulsivity and risk taking (sub-traits of disinhibition), and hostility (a sub-trait of antagonism). In the first two episodes of the season, Dr. Carla Sharp, Dr. Frank Yeomans, and Dr. Alex Stein explain what the AMPD is, how it changes from the current categorical model, and how the BPD diagnosis is changing. Sunday, 9 August 2026   A summary of Matthew Chapter 21.   Chapter 17 revealed that there is a future for Israel in God's redemptive plans. The main message of Chapter 18 was that childlike faith is required to enter into the kingdom. The final parable, that of the wicked servant, dealt with Israel's rejection of Christ's fulfillment of the law, showing that they would be delivered up until they entered the New Covenant. Chapter 19 took the reader through various topics to reveal what God prioritizes. The contrasts between law and faith were seen throughout the chapter.   Chapter 20 was a chapter filled with hints of the transition from the dispensation of the law to the dispensation of grace. It dealt with order and propriety concerning each step of the redemptive process to ensure that nothing is dealt with until the previous steps are completed.   It also presented the truth that God has made faith in what He has done the necessary condition. Nothing more can be added to it, and without meeting that one condition, there is no chance of obtaining access.   Chapter 21 continues that thought, but it deals specifically with the object of that faith, Jesus Christ. The chapter began with the details concerning Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. He came to Bethphage, the House of Unspiced Figs.   The fig pictures a spiritual connection to God. These being unspiced picture those who have not yet received their spiritual reconnection to God. Once spiced, the connection is made.   It was said to be at the Mount of Olives. A mountain typologically refers to a large but centralized group of people. The olive is a symbol of religious privilege. The picture anticipates those who will have the spiritual connection and who will become a part of receiving religious privilege through faith in Christ.   At Bethphage, Jesus directed two disciples to find the donkey with her colt tied at her side. As seen, the female donkey signifies permanence. She represents patient endurance. The colt signifies humanity, but being a colt that was unyoked, it signifies innocence concerning the yoke of sin. It is a picture of Christ, unstained by Adam's sin, despite having come from the line of humanity.   Matthew noted that what occurred was fulfillment of prophecy, demonstrating that Jesus is the anticipated Messiah and that Scripture was being fulfilled in Him. The spreading of the garments was seen to be a recognition by the people of Jesus' kingly status and authority.   But this kingly authority was acknowledged to be the fulfillment of the messianic promises to David. The people's proclamation recognized this in the words “Hosanna! The ‘Son, David'.” It is Jesus who came in the name of Yehovah. Whether the people realized it or not, their words are the Bible's confirmation that He is Yehovah incarnate.   When Jesus entered the temple, He drove out those who defiled it with their selling and exchanging money. After all the time of the law, the corruption of the people was never satisfactorily dealt with. Jesus' cleansing of the temple proved it was so.   How could a corruptly run temple provide cleansing for the corruption of sin in the people? The answer is that it could not. It was only a shadow of what would be fully accomplished in Christ. That was confirmed in Jesus' healing of the people in the temple.   The sin of the people could not be dealt with through the temple's rites and rituals, but Jesus demonstrated that the consequences of sin could be dealt with through Him. And He demonstrated this while right at the temple complex. While He was doing these things, the children cried out, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”   When the leaders at the temple heard it, they were indignant. What did Jesus do? He cited Scripture, clearly implying that He is the fulfillment of what is recorded there. He is the purpose and point of the prophetic word. After that, Jesus went out to Bethany.   Various suggestions for the meaning of the name were given. Based on the surrounding context, it seems that House of Figs answers the imagery. Jesus left a place with an unacceptable spiritual connection to God because of its defilement and went to a place with a typological connection to God apart from that place.   That is then seen in the next verses where Jesus cursed the fig tree, saying that it would never bear fruit again. As seen, that was a picture of the temple, where He was heading, which was to lose its place as the point of mediation between God and man.   After that, the disciples were amazed at what took place concerning the fig. From there, Jesus' words were precise –   “Answering, also, the ‘Jesus', He said to them, ‘Amen, I say to you, if you should have faith, and not you should waver, not only the ‘the fig tree' you will do, but and-if the ‘mountain, this', you should say, ‘You be borne, and you be cast into the sea', it will become. 22And all, as much – if you should ask in the prayer, believing, you will receive.'”   As explained in those commentaries, the mountain is the mountain of the law, Horeb, which Paul says is the temple in Jerusalem. The prayer is the prayer of salvation, receiving Jesus, such as is indicated in Romans 10:9, 10 –   “...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”   In receiving Jesus, the burden of the mountain of the law is forever removed from that person.   In verses 23-27, there was the question of John's authority, where it came from. The chief priests and elders would not answer. In turn, Jesus did not respond to their question. The law and the prophets, completed in John, fully testify to Christ Jesus. If someone will not acknowledge the source of authority concerning those things, they will never be able to identify where Jesus' authority is derived from.   Because of their lack of willingness to proclaim what should be obvious, Jesus gave the parable of the two sons. The leaders of Israel, who are supposedly the obedient by saying they will do the things the Father directs, do not do them at all.   On the other hand, the tax collectors and harlots who supposedly rejected what the Father told them to do, ultimately do them when they come to Christ. This is because Christ is the fulfillment of all the work necessary to be saved. To say you will do God's will and not accept Jesus means you failed to do God's will.   Next came the parable of the wicked vinedressers, a parable the speaks for itself. This is so much the case that the chief priests and Pharisees knew Jesus was speaking of them. Despite their desire to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitude and did not do so. This final thought is summed up in Jesus' own words –   “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” John 10:17, 18   Jesus' time had not yet come. Therefore, until He was ready to lay down His life, obstacles to others laying their hands on Him would continue to exist.   Life application: The chapter continues the Bible's theme of the law versus grace, which comes through faith. It details the means of re-obtaining the spiritual connection to God, which is only through faith in the sinless Christ. In proclaiming Christ, salvation is realized.   Israel would lose its right to be the vineyard of God. It would be taken from them and transferred to the church, a body comprised of people of faith from around the world. All people, including those of Israel, must be willing to come to Christ to be saved.   The law was and is an ineffectual means of obtaining salvation, except as it is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Believe today and be saved!   Lord God, thank You that the pressure and burden of the law is removed from us. Thank You that we have full, final, and forever access to You through the precious shed blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.   Matthew 21   21 And when they neared unto Jerusalem, and they came unto Bethphage toward the ‘Mount, the Olives', then Jesus, He sent two disciples, 2Saying to them, “You go into the village, the ‘opposite you,' and immediately you will find ‘donkey, having been bound', and ‘colt, with her'. Having loosened, you bring to Me. 3And if anyone, to you, he says anything, you will say that the Lord, these – need, He has. Immediately, also, he will send them.”   4This also, all, it having become that it should be fulfilled, the ‘having been spoken through the prophet,' saying:   5“You say to the ‘daughter, Zion', ‘You behold! The ‘King, yours', He comes to you, Benignant and having been upon-stepped upon a donkey, Even upon ‘colt, son under-yoked'.'”   6Having gone, also, the disciples, and having done just as He directed them, the ‘Jesus', 7they brought the donkey and the colt, and they upon-set atop them the ‘cloaks, theirs', and He upon-sat atop them. 8The ‘also most crowd', they spread their ‘the cloaks' in the road, others, also, they chopped branches from the trees, and they strewed in the road. 9The ‘also crowds', those preceding, and those following, they croaked, saying:   “Hosanna! The ‘Son, David'! Having been blessed, the ‘coming in Name, Lord!' Hosanna in the uppermosts!”   10And having entered, He, into Jerusalem, it was shaken, all the city, saying, “Who is this?”   11The ‘also crowds', they said, “This, He is the Prophet, Jesus, the ‘from Nazareth, the Galilee'.”   12And He entered, the ‘Jesus', into the ‘temple, the God', and He ejected all those selling and buying in the temple. And the ‘tables, the coin-dealers' He overturned, and the ‘benches, those selling' the doves. 13And He says to them, “It has been written: ‘The ‘house, Mine', ‘house, prayer' it will be called.' You also, it, you made ‘cave, robbers'.”   14And they approached Him, blind and lame, in the temple, and He cured them. 15Having seen, also, the chief priests and the scribes, the ‘wonderfuls' that He did, and the boys croaking in the temple, and saying, “Hosanna! The ‘Son, David',” they outraged. 16And they said to Him, “You hear what these, they say?”   The ‘also Jesus', He says to them,   “Yes. Never, you read that, ‘From ‘mouth, infants and sucklings' You prepared praise.'?”   17And having left them, He proceeded out of the city to Bethany, and He overnighted there.   18Daybreak, also, returning to the city, He hungered. 19And having seen ‘fig tree, one' upon the road, He came upon it, and nothing, He found in it, if not leaves only. And He says to it, “Not more from you fruit it should be, to the age.” And it desiccated straightaway, the fig tree.   20And having seen, the disciples, they wondered, saying, “How, straightaway, it desiccated, the fig tree?”   21Answering, also, the ‘Jesus', He said to them, “Amen, I say to you, if you should have faith, and not you should waver, not only the ‘the fig tree' you will do, but and-if the ‘mountain, this', you should say, ‘You be borne, and you be cast into the sea', it will become. 22And all, as much – if you should ask in the prayer, believing, you will receive.”   23And having come, Him, into the temple, they approached Him teaching, the chief priests and the ‘elders, the people', saying, “In where-such authority these, You do? And who to You, He gave the authority, this?”   24Answering, also, the ‘Jesus', He said to them, “I will entreat you, I also, word one, which if you should say to Me, I also to you, I will say in where-such authority these I do. 25The ‘immersion, John', whence it was? From heaven or from men?”   These, also, they deliberated with themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven,' He will say to us, ‘Through why, therefore, not you believed him?' 26If, also, we should say, ‘From men,' we fear the crowd, all, for, as a prophet, they have the ‘John'.” 27And answering, the ‘Jesus', they said, “Not we have known.”   He said to them, also He, “Nor I, I tell you in where-such authority these I do.”   28“What, also you, it seems? A man, he had ‘sons, two', and having approached the first, he said, ‘Son, you go this day. You work in the ‘vineyard, mine'.' 29The ‘also answering', he said, ‘Not, I will.' Afterward, also, having regretted, he went. 30Having approached, also, the second, he said as thus. The ‘also having answered', he said, ‘I, lord.' And not he went. 31Which from the two, He did the ‘determination, the father'?”   They say to him, “The first.”   He says to them, the ‘Jesus', “Amen! I say to you that the taxmen and the prostitutes, they precede you into the ‘kingdom, the God'. 32He came, namely, John to you in ‘way, righteousness,' and not you believed him. The ‘also taxmen and the prostitutes', they believed him. You, also, having seen, not you regretted afterward the ‘believe him'.”   33Another parable, you hear, “‘Man, certain', he was ‘housemaster who, he planted –vineyard', and circuited, it, he encircled, and he dug in it – winepress, and he built – tower, and he leased it to land-workers, and he abroaded*. 34When also it neared, the ‘juncture, the fruits', he sent the ‘servants, his' to the agronomists to receive the ‘fruits, his'. 35And having taken, the agronomists, the ‘servants, his', one, indeed, they scourged. One, also, they killed. One, also, they stoned. 36Again, he sent other servants, ‘greater, the first', and they did to them as thus. 37Afterward, also, he sent to them the ‘son, his', saying, ‘They will be in-turned* of the ‘son, mine'.' 38“The ‘also, agronomists', having seen the son, they said in themselves, ‘This, he is, the heir. You come, we should kill him, and we should retain the ‘inheritance, his'.' 39And having taken him, they ejected from the vineyard, and they killed.   40When, therefore, he should come, the ‘lord, the vineyard', what he will do to the agronomists, to those?”   41They say to Him, “Worthless! Badly, he will destroy them, and the vineyard, he will lease to other farmers who, they will give him the fruits in the ‘junctures, theirs'.”   42He says to them, the ‘Jesus',   “Never you read in the Scriptures? ‘Stone – which they rejected, those building – this, It has become to ‘head, corner'. From ‘Lord', it was, this, And it is marvelous in ‘eyes, ours'.'”   43“Through this, I say to you that it will be lifted from you, the ‘kingdom, the God', and it will be given to ethnicity producing the ‘fruits, it'. 44And the ‘having fallen upon the stone, this,' he will be pulverized. Upon whoever, also, if it should fall, it will winnowize* him.”   45And having heard, the chief priests and the Pharisees, His parables, they knew that concerning them, He speaks. 46And seeking Him to seize, they feared the crowds, since as ‘prophet', Him, they held.   *Verse 33 – Greek: apodémeó, to go abroad. Abroaded is a coined word. *Verse 37 – Greek: entrepó, to invert. In a good sense, to respect, in a bad one, to confound, as in put to shame. *Verse 44 – Greek: likmaó, from likmos (a basket used for winnowing). In this episode of Primetime Gamechangers, we sit down with undefeated professional MMA fighter Jon Kunneman to explore why the greatest victories in life are earned through discipline, resilience, and embracing the process, not chasing comfort. From his journey as a 10-0 fighter to overcoming the daily challenges of living with Type 1 diabetes, Jon shares how choosing hard things has shaped both his mindset and his faith. Together, we discuss the dangers of what Jon calls "worthless luxury," the pursuit of instant gratification that keeps people from reaching their full potential, and why real growth only happens when you're willing to step into discomfort. We also dive into the importance of controlling what you can control, developing mental toughness, enjoying the process instead of obsessing over the outcome, and building a life rooted in purpose rather than convenience. Whether you're pursuing a dream, facing adversity, or simply trying to become a stronger leader, this conversation will challenge you to trade comfort for discipline, focus on the next faithful step, and discover that lasting breakthrough is found in the work no one else sees.

Monday, 3 August 2026   They said to Him, “He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons.” Matthew 21:41   “They say to Him, ‘Worthless! Badly, he will destroy them, and the vineyard, he will lease to other farmers who, they will give him the fruits in the ‘junctures, theirs'.” (CG).   In the previous verse, Jesus asked Israel's leaders what the housemaster would do when he comes to his vineyard. In response, “They say to Him, ‘Worthless! Badly, he will destroy them.'”   If the response is from the leaders, they have admitted with their own mouths that such treatment is from worthless people who deserve to be destroyed. The reason for the “if” will be explained later. As for the continued words, they say, “and the vineyard, he will lease to other farmers.”   The leaders of Israel were the ones being spoken of. They rejected Christ, failed their people, and were set for a bad end. However, the vineyard won't simply be left unattended. God is working in the world for the redemption of man.   The economy in which this takes place will be a new cultural setting. In fact, it is one that spans the entire world of cultures. Anywhere the gospel is believed and churches are formed, the leaders of those churches bear the responsibility for tending to God's vineyard. As for those responding to Jesus, they say these new vinedressers will be those “who, they will give him the fruits in the ‘junctures, theirs'.”   When the fruits are ready, they will be offered to God accordingly. This will come about in the various ways people are brought to saving faith, discipled in doctrine, reassured through preaching, raised up to become ministers, etc. As for the words of this verse, it appears that the response to Jesus is from the leaders. However, in Mark and Luke, the answer appears to be given by Jesus –   “Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and give the vineyard to others.” Mark 12:9   “Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.” And when they heard it they said, “Certainly not!” Luke 20:15, 16   So how can this be reconciled? There are at least a couple of possibilities. One is that the leaders, in fact, spoke to Jesus as is recorded in Matthew. After that, Jesus then responded with their own words in a manner that made them understand He was referring to them, such as “He WILL come and destroy those vinedressers...” while looking directly at them.   From there, they responded, “Certainly not!” as is recorded in Luke, having realized Jesus was speaking of them. A second option is that the word “they” in Matthew 21:41 is not the leaders, but the other people who were listening. From there, the leaders called out, “Certainly not!”   Either way, there is no reason to assume there is any contradiction.   Life application: God was evaluating the leaders of Israel and held them accountable for their failure to acknowledge Christ in His coming. They were the stewards of the law and should have known perfectly well that Jesus was the Christ. Because of their rejection of Him, they were judged accordingly.   As this is true, there is no reason to assume God will be any less ready to judge those leaders in the church who mislead their people. It has become almost fashionable in liberal churches to deny the resurrection, to make sick claims about Jesus that have no basis in Scripture, etc.   Such people will not fare well when they stand before the Lord to give an account of their lives. Similarly, false prophets and teachers like Joseph Smith and Ellen G. White, among a host of others, will suffer the consequences of their false teachings.   Even if not teachers, each of us should tread carefully when we conduct our affairs before God, treating His name with great honor, exalting Him for His goodness. We will be evaluated on the lives we live, so be sure to keep in mind that you are always in the presence of the Creator.   Lord God, we thank You for the salvation You have provided us in Christ. Help us to remember that You are always present and that we should conduct our lives before You in holiness all our days. May it be so to Your glory. Amen.

Proverbs 6:12 (NLT) – “What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars, signaling their deceit with a wink of an eye, a nudge of a foot, or a wiggle of a finger.”   In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall shares unpleasant but necessary wisdom regarding how to identify and evaluate the character of wicked and worthless people. Drawing from Proverbs 6, he outlines the traits of those who are constant liars, practice deceit through "code words" or secret signals, and possess perverted hearts that constantly stir up trouble and division.   Pastor Sumrall explains that while these individuals may seem powerful or strong for a season, the Bible warns they will be destroyed suddenly and beyond hope of healing. He advises believers that when they encounter such people, the best response is not to go to war, but to simply "back up" and distance themselves. Learning to recognize these characteristics protects you from getting caught in a mess that leads to the same destructive end. ---- Don't forget to like, subscribe to Cathedral of Praise TV https://www.youtube.com/c/cathedralofpraiseTV/?sub_confirmation=1,and hit the bell icon

Sometimes a fishing derby doesn't go the way you planned. Actually, sometimes nothing goes the way you planned — especially when you're running an Evinrude that decides to play Russian roulette with your confidence. Worthless isn't really a strong enough word for that motor. We're diving into two days of the Chippewa Flowage solo derby, and yeah, there's some real frustration baked into this one. Day one had Jordan grinding as a Boater alongside a solid fishing partner that he didn't know he was gonna have in the boat until that morning, but the real story? That Evinrude. You know the one. The one that drops RPM on pad, shuts off, fires back up, shuts off again, and then — after enough cycles of rage-fueled troubleshooting — just decides it's done with you. Completely done. Won't start. Won't even pretend to cooperate. It's the kind of motor drama that'll test your patience faster than a full moon bite. But here's the thing: fishing is still fishing, and fun found a way in anyway. Day two brought an unexpected turn when Jordan, fishing as a non-boater, got in the Triton with Brian Beebe, and that's where the energy shifted. Fresh perspective, different approach, and a reminder that sometimes the best derby moments aren't about dominating the leaderboard — they're about who's sitting next to you and what you're learning together.

Watch the Devotion Based on Numbers 27:15-23 Relieved of Duty, Not Relieved of Grace “Because of your insubordination I am relieving you of command.”   Those are words that no one wants to hear, and yet these are the very words the Lord spoke to his servant leader Moses. Moses had led the nation of Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness for 40 years and was about to lead the people into the Promised Land. But God stopped him short. The reason? “You disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes” (Numbers 27:14).   God led Moses to the top of a mountain so he could see the Promised Land and then he died and God buried him.    I'm certain you know someone who has been relieved of duty, lost command, demoted, received a reduction in rank because of a violation of policy, poor performance, or loss of confidence in their ability to lead. Maybe that's you. And like Moses, there are reminders of that failure always before you. How does that make you feel? Worthless? Full of regret? Full of guilt? You are not alone.       Before Moses died, the LORD commanded him to lay his hands on his successor and commission him to lead. And he led well. His name? Joshua. In the Hebrew Yeshua. In the Greek language Jesus: a name that means – the one who saves. Yes, God provided another leader to shepherd his people – a picture of what the perfect Good Shepherd would one day do for Moses. God's imperfect servant leader could cling to the promise of the perfect servant leader and know his sins were forgiven. Moses could die in peace knowing his God had made all things right.       Whatever it is you failed to do in your job, whatever consequences you suffered for it, believe this: Jesus was and is the perfect leader, and the perfect subordinate, the perfect servant of all, the perfect shepherd for all, and that includes you and me.   As shepherd he looks at people like you and me, and doesn't shake his head, groan and say, “Not again!” Instead, he looks on you and me with compassion. His heart goes out to us, because he sees people, sinners, sheep who need a shepherd, and he comes to you and to me and offers his holy, perfect, selfless, sacrificial life and says, “Here, this is yours. You are righteous in my sight.”   Whatever God has called you to do right now, go and do it. Go with confidence. Believe that your sin is covered by Jesus. Go with confidence knowing that Jesus goes before you as a shepherd leads his sheep.   Prayer: This weekend as the US Army celebrates its 251st birthday we pause to thank you for this branch of our armed forces that has stood ready to protect our nation and its people and defend its values. Raise up more men and women willing to serve with loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. Through the sacrifice of our US Army may we continue to enjoy and practice the freedoms of this great country. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray it. Amen.        Written and recorded by Rev. I stood up at the Minnesota Republican state convention and spoke on behalf of Lisa Demuth — the candidate for governor my party didn't end up endorsing. This is my honest account of why, and the bigger problem it exposes.I'm not here to relitigate the count or the chaos. I'm here to ask the question conservatives keep refusing to ask: if we believe in value for value, what value does the MNGOP endorsement actually provide? Because we haven't won a statewide general election in twenty years — the longest active losing streak of any state Republican party in the country.Maybe the candidates running past the endorsement aren't dishonorable. Maybe they're trying to break the cycle. And maybe, if we want the endorsement to mean something, we have to make it worth abiding by — not just appeal to honor and hope.Chapters:0:00 — Why I spoke for the candidate we didn't endorse1:40 — Where I'm standing when I say this4:40 — The scoreboard we keep getting wrong6:30 — What does the endorsement actually deliver?10:00 — Why the August primary makes it worse11:40 — The closing argumenthttps://x.com/WalterHudson⬇️ Watch, think critically, and decide for yourself.

It was Saturday, May 14th, 2005. I was sitting in the middle of a packed auditorium on graduation day from Boise State, and I looked left, I looked right, and I saw hundreds of people with huge smiles on their faces. And I was confused. Not for myself - I'd gone to college for one reason and one reason only, to wrestle - but for them. Because I knew what was about to happen the next morning. Most of them were about to walk into entry-level jobs that wouldn't pay enough to cover the monthly payments on their student loans. Loans that, by the way, you can't even discharge in bankruptcy. They follow you forever. And they were smiling about it. This is the episode I've been thinking about for months. The idea that you need a college degree to be successful is not a fact - it was manufactured. It was sold to an entire generation by the same system Edward Bernays used to sell wars and cigarettes, and it's grown into a $1.7 trillion debt machine - more than every credit card in the country combined. And there's a new piece nobody has fully connected yet: AI just made almost every technical skill colleges still charge $200,000 to teach obsolete, while schools across the country are banning students from using the one tool that actually matters in the modern economy. I walk you through the manufactured-consent history, the moment in my own sophomore-year economics class that built my entire business, the seven skills AI just made worthless, and the framework I now use with my own kids. Key Highlights: ◼️The manufactured-consent history of college - how the post-war GI Bill created a massive customer base for universities, how tuition has gone up roughly 1000% since 1980 while wages stayed flat, and how $1.7 trillion in non-dischargeable student debt became the most successful piece of manufactured consent in American history ◼️The single concept I wrote in my notebook during a sophomore-year economics class that built my entire business - and why every other thing I learned in four years of college is worth less today than a $15 book or a YouTube weekend ◼️The seven skills colleges still charge $200,000 to teach that AI now does for free or close to it - programming, accounting, design, writing, legal research, marketing, and finance - and why schools are banning AI for the same reason newspapers banned the internet ◼️The two things real education should actually focus on right now (deep reading and AI literacy), the exact books that taught me more than my degree did, and why I'd rather my kids master those than collect another credential ◼️The framework I give my own kids about college - “stay in school until you're making more money than your teacher” - and the story of why I let three MBAs go in a single year because they couldn't grasp concepts my college-less students mastered in two weeks At the end of the day, this isn't an anti-college episode. There's real value in the social experience, the friendships, the network - I met my wife and most of my closest friends in school, and I wouldn't trade that for anything. But the value is in the people, not the diploma, and you can get that without taking on six figures of debt that follows you to the grave. The propaganda that sold a generation on “you need this degree to succeed” was manufactured. It's maintained by a $1.7 trillion industry that cannot survive if people stop believing it. So the real question for every parent and every young person listening is: are you going to keep paying the tuition the system needs you to pay - or are you going to give yourself the education that actually matters? ◼️If you've got a product, offer, service… or idea… I'll show you how to sell it (the RIGHT way) Register for my next event → https://sellingonline.com/podcast ◼️Still don't have a funnel? Most of what you do in marketing will not produce the results you desire. That's the harsh reality behind the mathematical structure of marketing.  But it's your mind that turns mathematical realities into a problem.  Here's what I mean: After racking up a couple of embarrassing marketing failures, most advisors think they're a failure and give up. They don't realize that every marketing failure skyrockets their odds of disproportionate success.  So, yes, 90% of your marketing efforts are basically worthless. 90% of my marketing efforts are basically worthless too.  But as long as you don't quit, then every failure brings you closer to your next marketing campaign being wildly successful because it allows the mathematical structure to work. Listen now. Show highlights include: The "Power Law" secret which explains why you put so much effort into marketing and get so little back (and more importantly, how to "flip" this law to work for you) (2:17)  A paradigm-shifting story from Y Combinator that will forever change how your approach marketing (it's also how Peter Thiel made $1 billion from one investment) (4:56)  Why it can be a good thing that your marketing produces no tangible results… as long as steer clear of these 2 common mistakes (7:34)  How the "Power Law" takes your marketing failures and uses them to increase the odds of wildly disproportionate results for future campaigns (10:31)  The "Double Down" rule that prevents your mind from sabotaging your marketing success (14:02)  How to radically increase your odds of marketing success by adding more "positions to your portfolio" (20:09)  Why advisors' analytical mind is the single biggest obstacle you'll face in marketing (20:49) Since you listen to this podcast, I want to give you a gift: If you subscribe to the Inner Circle Newsletter, I'll send you a collection of seven "objection busting" and copyright free emails, personally written by me, that you can use right away to begin getting more clients. Your database is a gold mine. The problem is most agents have never learned how to use it. The average agent has 200 to 300 people sitting in their phone right now who already know them, trust them, and would list with them — if they were just asked. Meanwhile, agents pour money into Zillow leads, over-engineered drip campaigns, and social media strategies that AI is making obsolete by the day. This episode is the wake-up call every real estate agent in America needs to hear in 2026. Tim and Julie Harris break down why the real estate agents who will survive and dominate the coming AI disruption are not the ones with the best content strategy or the biggest ad spend. They are the ones who have mastered a skill that no algorithm, chatbot, or AI platform can replicate: genuine human communication. Real conversation. Real listening. Real connection. In this episode, you will learn why the traditional 77-touch drip systems are creating distance instead of trust, how to use the FORD Memory Jogger framework to have deeper and more profitable conversations with your sphere of influence, and why emotional intelligence has become the single most valuable competitive advantage in real estate. Tim and Julie also explain exactly how AI is already dismantling off-market listing strategies, exclusive buyer portals, and paid lead models — and why listing agents with real client relationships will be the only ones positioned to win. You will also hear a clear breakdown of the four stages of mastery — unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, and unconscious competence — and learn how to identify where you are right now and what it takes to move forward. The agents who make it to unconscious competence are the ones whose sellers say after a competitive listing appointment: you were the only one who actually asked what mattered to us. This is not a conversation about tactics. It is a conversation about the future of your business and what it will take to protect your commissions, your relationships, and your livelihood as artificial intelligence rewrites every rule the real estate industry has operated by for the last two decades. Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who never cheated, never raged, never drank — someone everyone around you thought was wonderful — and yet you constantly felt like you were the problem? Like you could never measure up, never quite get it right, never escape the quiet but crushing weight of their disappointment? That's not your imagination. And it's not your fault. In this episode of the Covert Narcissism Podcast, Renee breaks down one of the most misunderstood and hardest-to-identify forms of covert narcissism: the self-righteous narcissist. This is the narcissist who gains their supply not from attention or admiration — but from their own sense of moral superiority. They would never cheat. They would never lie. And they will make absolutely sure you know it. In this episode, you'll learn: What narcissistic supply actually is — and why morality can be a form of it How the self-righteous narcissist uses a "moral scoreboard" to keep you in a one-down position The specific phrases they use that sound reasonable but function as control Why this type of abuse is so hard to identify — and why victims almost always end up blaming themselves The long-term impact on your sense of self, your confidence, and your own moral compass What healing looks like — and how to start reclaiming who you actually are Whether you grew up with a self-righteous parent, are in a relationship with a self-righteous partner, or are just beginning to connect the dots on why you always felt like the problem — this episode will give you language for something you've felt but never been able to name. You were never the problem. And the scoreboard was never fair. If you're ready to stop untangling this alone, Renee's coaching program is open. Visit covertnarcissism.com to learn more.
