Peculiar People is a podcast that seeks to raise up digital missionaries all around the world who transform their societies for Jesus.
We share some crazy stories from work, our past about the peculiar people we have met. David also shares an important life lesson from Avatar the Last Airbender!
We discuss the hype behind NFTs, the first Metaverse government and ask a challenging question regarding sexuality. I also share an embarrassing yet comical story of how I learned what a blowjob was in 10th grade! This episode is full of laughs and awkward moments in my teenage years, enjoy!
In this episode we discuss the advancement of technology with the METAVERSE. We discuss why people center their whole fashion around shoes and why in today's culture it is so hard to apologize when one has done wrong.
We are back and excited for all the discussions that are going to be happening on our podcast! In this episode we discuss pop culture in the 2020's, read some goofy tweets and talk dealing with pain while trying to live life.
Our world is becoming more complex. With new advancements comes growth AND problems. The challenges we face today seem bigger than the successes that are happening around us. Humanity is breaking records people only dreamed of no more than 10+ years ago. However abuse, dishonor and the ability to respect one another is decreasing. One of the ways this is taking place is the issue of sexting among teens. In this podcast we discuss this issue and discuss the importance of setting boundaries.
In this podcast we discuss how the world is changing fast. Everything is being flipped upside down. Though this may be scary for many it is actually an opportunity for those with the courage to take risk. We are living in a time where you do not have to be a "professional" in any field to influence it. It simply requires the passion and drive to do it. Listen to this podcast and be inspired to bring change.
We discuss some unexpected events that have occurred, Gen Z's understanding of privacy and what it means to truly have an identity.
In this podcast we have a real diverse discussion. There is a lot going on in the world right now (when isn't a lot going on?) and I really enjoy the fact that I get to talk about it. There is so much growth, learning and wisdom that is needed in this hour. Above all else - unconditional love is needed and sometimes unconditional love means . . . walking with people in order to understand and be compassionate.
In this podcast we sat down with Amanda Marroquins (yes, she is Marvin's wife) and what it is like being a millennial teacher among Gen Z. One thing you may not know about Amanda is that she has friends in the LGBTQ+ community. Her life is full of stories of God's love being shown to them. One of my favorite stories is about a young man who just met her and opened up about his sexuality. The crazy thing was is that young man was a pastors kid and struggling to tell his father. I won't go any further but Amanda has a way of showing people (not just LGBTQ+) love without the need to "preach" at them. Great conversation and I can't wait to have her back on.
Our podcast is back and we have some fresh stuff in store! In this episode we go deeper into God, the LGBTQ+ and the Church. We also play some games and talk pop culture. Personally I got to say it is nice to see new music and movies being released again! Anyway, enjoy this weeks podcast!
This is probably one of our most in depth podcasts yet! We were asked questions by both Christians and non-Christians about God, Hell, LGBTQ and more. I love these kinds of conversations because even though everyone in the room is Christian there is still a different take on each issue. Each of these questions could be a whole podcast of it's own and I am glad we could cover them in some depth. Enjoy the podcast and if you have questions you want us to answer, let us know! You can email us at thepeculiarpodcast@gmail.com.
What a week! 2021 is definitely continuing (if not escalating) where we ended in 2020. What happened at our nations capitol will be a disgrace remembered. Blood lust from all sides is rising and there seems to be little done for the cause of justice and peace. While many search for truth, Scripture shows us that this is exactly what happens to a nation when idolatry runs rampant. The church is not blameless either. We have contributed to the division and have even worshipped the idols of our nation. If anything 2021 will be a year where we let go of idols or destroy anything to keep them.
There has been a lot of words given about presidents and government this year. Did you know that certain areas of the prophetic are more open-ended than others? For instance, prophecies concerning the Messiah are more concrete than prophecies concerning my need for a car. Of course God cares about my needs but a car eventually will fade away even though God prophesied about providing a car. The same can be applied when it comes to prophesy about nations, governments and its leaders. At the end of the day Christ is what we stand on. Everything else is shaky and that sometimes means leaders going in one minute and out the next.
In this episode Marvin and I share some of our thoughts on the year as we come to its close. 2020 started out difficult and will end difficult for many. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes that it is better to go to a funeral than a wedding because of what death causes us to reflect on. This year many have died and many things have "died" and that means we need to look at ourselves for a moment. It is a year to reflect on who we are as a nation, a people and followers of Jesus. There is much that needs to change and change starts with looking at ourselves.
What does idolatry look like in today's world? It is not set up with statues of silver and gold but of things that we consider valuable. Specifically, idols exist today in the form of values, ideas, philosophies and morals. Even if someone were to have all morally good values, it can still become an idol. In fact, everything can become an idol except Christ Himself. In this podcast we discuss how some of the good things we stand for can fall into idolatry.
When the nuclear bomb was introduced to the world, the rules of war were forever changed. When it comes to technology we are not as diligent to notice that there needs to be change in everything technology has influenced. Technology has drastically changed how someone can gain wealth, power and influence. People who had little or were not well known can become sensations overnight (so it seems). Since the world is moving at a new pace it is time we relook at how we think about certain things, specifically in America. Technology has changed economics, government, culture and more and we are not keeping up with the pace. This episode is a cry for change!
Do you know how much God desires you? The bible says that His love for you is like a thirst that cannot be quenched. You heard from the Bible ladies and gentlemen - God is thirsty for you! This revelation of God's desire for you is the most important thing when you commune with Him. In fact there is nothing you need to do when you spend time with Him except enjoy Him. Our communion with God is meant to be experienced as God experiences it in Himself. There is no agenda needed in the Trinity for The Father to enjoy the Son and vice versa. They simply desire one another in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. My hope is that you receive an impartation to commune with God in a deeper blissful way!
Experiences are powerful. Powerful enough to shape the way you see the world, others and most importantly yourself. There are many things in life that teach us but rarely does anything come close to experience. However what if this is a wrong way to judge our own lives? What if experience is lying to us and telling us to believe in something we were never supposed to? The only way to know is to go to something greater than experience - that is Our Heavenly Father. This is how Jesus determined everything. He did not use His experience as a point of reference - He used His Father.
Have you ever felt a sense of pointlessness when it comes to politics? That is normal and not necessarily a bad feeling. It is healthy to feel the vanity of the things of men. The problem is allowing that feeling to become a depressing and hopeless conclusion. What is the answer to vanity? If I am being honest - HAPPINESS. To see real healthy change, true justice, a big key is going to be whether or not the people bringing those things are glad in their own heart. Something right done with a wrong heart is still damaging. We need people filled with joy and have learned the wisdom of seeing the vanity of this life. Listen to this podcast and learn how to keep your happiness in a political world.
Christian Maturity is when we learn to rely on faith more than our own constructs. The problem is we do not know how to get out of our constructs. When it comes to our morals, ideas on God and beliefs we tend to fall into boxes that ultimately hurt ourselves if we do not mature past them. In this podcast I discuss the three stages of Christian maturity and how God moves you to be fully mature in Christ. The 3 stages are Aesthetic, Ethical and Spiritual. In American Christianity, most do not make it past the 2nd. Listen and find out why!
2020 has been hard on all of us. With everything going on it seems like there is no room to hope, dream and pursue your passion. DON'T BELIEVE THAT LIE! Our God is a God of hope and you are called to prosper. Don't quit! Keep dreaming for yourself and your loved ones. Hope is your strength in this hour. It is going to be okay (even if your plans didn't work out). This is only a chapter in the big story of your life.
There is a cycle of bondage in our country. That cycle is violence. The biggest issue with violence is that it does not care who it consumes. It is a dragon that must be slayed not through violence but through peace. The peace that is the solution is not passive but active and powerful. What is needed now are individuals inspired by the Spirit of Jesus to bring in new solutions that are not currently being offered. When we can stand like Jesus and love our enemies then this cycle will lose its power.
It is time for people who have chosen to truly love their enemies to arise! Every election year things seem to explode. This has been a "normal" cycle in America. It gets crazy then it calms down (somewhat). This time around it seems as if everything keeps building up in tension. Even after riots, multiple injustices and corruption being exposed it is still increasing. If there was ever a time for peacemakers it is now. In this podcast we go over the cycle of hatred that America is trapped in, what it looks like and the kind of people that are needed in this hour.
Social life, girls, sports and more! In this special episode of the podcast we get to discuss what life is like for the next generation. This was honestly a blast to record. There are lots of laughs, insights and thoughts that will help you see into the life of the Zoomers! We will definitely be having them back on.
In this episode we discuss the importance of Christ being in you. Often times we grow tired and wonder if we are going to make it in our journey. There is hope for you! Jesus within is not tired or weary! He is full of faith and hope for your life. Learning to rest on this revelation will give you the endurance you need to run your race.
In this episode we discuss the spirit of fear that influences our nation. Much of what is called patriotism, revolution and change is fear in disguise. The children of God must learn to overcome this fear and show the world a way that it has not known - one free from fear which only perfect love is able to bring.
In this episode we discuss how God often uses people that are outside the paradigm of "usefulness". The truth is, if someone exists, God can use them. No one is so bad that the could never be used by God to fulfill His purpose on the earth.
In this episode we discuss different issues that need more voices involved to bring justice. Your voice matters now more than ever. You are called to bring hope, change and justice in this world!
In this episode we discuss what God says about the poor. Every nation struggles to live up to God's standard to defend the poor and because of that nations end up exploiting those in need. The church must be a voice for them and also recognize where it has failed. We can hear the voice of God in the cries of the poor and we must answer the cry of Jesus.
In this episode we discuss pursuing your passion and the freedom Christ has given you to do it! Are lives are not so micro-managed that we have to ask God about every decision we make. He wants you to co-create with Him! You were made to be as free as Jesus!
In this episode we discuss the promise of God to hear His voice. Many Christians struggle in hearing Him not knowing that they already do! His children know His voice and we go over the ways God speaks to us and how we can grow in our intimacy with His voice.
In this episode we ask the question, "Is violence necessary? The answer is not so "clear cut" as we like because we live in a broken world. However, no matter what happens Jesus is in our midst working all things out. There is hope in the violence because of Jesus
How can the church be a part of history and not just watch it happen? Marvin and David discuss how love can influence where history goes in a way that no other force can do for humanity.
Marvin and David discuss what it means to be a part of change. The whole earth is crying out for freedom and Jesus told us it would be through His Church. Listen and find out how you can be a part of it!
In this episode we discuss the issue of racism in America and how the church should respond in this hour. There is a cry for justice being heard around the world and the church must answer it in Jesus name.
In this episode we discuss the Gospel vs the way we many of us in the Western Church grew up hearing it. The Gospel isn't hard to believe because God was angry at us. The Gospel is hard to believe because it is too good to be true! Join us as we tell you how unconditionally good God is to all of humanity!
In this episode we discuss how Jesus challenges our concepts of Him. The difficulty of trying describe God is that we often fall into the trap of philosophy, ideas and concepts. The problem with this is that God speaks through none of these things. God speaks only through Jesus. When we humble ourselves and realize God is impossible to actually construct in our minds then we are open to knowing who He is reveals Himself to be in His light.
In part 2 of this episode we discuss where we believe the church is heading in this season. The church might be put in a place of weakness but as Paul said, "Christ's power is perfected in weakness". God is going to do something amazing in this country and it will happen through the church - His Bride.
In this episode (part 1 of 2) we discuss what the church can learn from COVID-19. Twenty years from now what will we say the church did during this pandemic? What lesson is there to be learned in this moment of time? We also look at the mistakes that have been made by the church and what we should be focusing on right now.
In this episode we discuss what it means to be, as Scripture says, "Peculiar People". We look at the life of Jesus, the disciples and scripture to understand what this means. Disciples of Jesus are meant to live a "different" way that brings the prodigal sons home. You are called to be that person.
In this episode we discuss one of the reasons Christians don't move in the power they see in Scripture or as Jesus said. If we are ever going to be wholesome witnesses we must learn the never ending truth that the kingdom of God is not in words but in power.
In this episode we discuss what love looks like right now. One of the greatest aspects of love is long suffering. It is rare to see someone long suffer with people, yet that is what is needed most in today's world. Just like Joshua long suffered with Israel for 40 years and Nehemiah long suffered with his people to rebuild, we need to long suffer in order to see restoration. We hope you are encouraged to be a Joshua or Nehemiah in this generation.
In this episode we discuss the role and importance of Joy in the Christian Life. Many times we have heard "God wants us to be joyful but not happy" - this is nonsense. God does want us to be happy in Him! This kind of happiness brings so much freedom and unlike the world there is no limit to your intake. We encourage you to let go of control and see how happy Jesus will let you live.
In this episode we discuss the state of fear people are in today. Fear causes us to do crazy things - even sacrifice one another. When we allow fear to be the driving force behind "solving" problems we end up doing evil that good might come. Marvin and David discuss how fear and the fear of death have been solved by the greatest sacrifice ever given.
In this episode we discuss the effects of corona and what it is revealing in the church. The challenges we are in has shone a big light on the issues the church has ignored for the most part within itself. It is these things we discuss and why it needs to change if we are going to be an effective in making disciples.
In our first episode we discuss how to have a lifestyle of constant communion with Christ. So many christians struggle in their relationship with Jesus and don't know why. We are here to dive into the "Why".
