Who doesn't love a good animal story, especially when it involves blood, amputation, or death? Yes, such heart warming tales (one of a missing tail) are brought to you in the format of an animal story contest. This is part II of our animal story contest that pits original broadcasts from the WLS world renowned Animal Stories from back in the 70s against our guests' own animal stories. We have two guests, Bruce King and Natalia Cooper, both of them experienced in veterinarian medicine, both willing to entertain us with their tales from the workplace. When this is published on April 15, 2025, it will be Bruces's 64th birthday. Happy Happy Joy Joy to Bruce! Jimmy Ahmuhdoofous has been appointed sole judge of these stories and will be choosing a winner for each round of stories told. In part I, we had two rounds of animal stories. If you haven't listened to part 1, you're encouraged to do that, so that you don't miss any of the gore involved with pythons, flying fatty masses, and more. We've got four more rounds of excitement coming up. In this conversation, Kreed explores the pervasive culture of toxic positivity and its impact on family relationships, particularly estrangement. She discusses how the societal obsession with happiness can lead to the invalidation of genuine emotions, creating a disconnect between parents and adult children. Kreed emphasizes the importance of facing discomfort and embracing the 'ick' in relationships to foster healing and deeper connections and provides insights on reframing perspectives, accountability, and the necessity of open communication to navigate emotional challenges within families. www.TheEstrangedHeart.com Email Kreed: TheEstrangedHeart@gmail.com Leave a voicemail for Kreed: https://www.theestrangedheart.com/voicemail/ Coaching with Kreed: https://TheEstrangedHeart-scheduler.as.me/COACHING Facebook Support Group for Estranged Moms: facilitated by Kreed - https://www.facebook.com/groups/estrangedmotherssupportgroup To support the podcast and Kreed's work with estranged and reconciled parents and adult children: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kreedrevere (one time donation) --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theestrangedheart/support

My take on how to get a relationship to develop after your first date. The happy medium of communication, expressing your genuine interest, and curiosity. Flirting, fun, and some directness!

“For some time now, Christianity has been on the decline. According to a September 2022 Pew study, people identifying as Christian have decreased from 90% of the U.S. population in 1972 to 64% in 2020. But it's not just researchers who are talking about this. As of Dec. 6, 2020, the hashtag “#exchristian” had 696.7 million cumulative views on TikTok and was assigned to more than 68,600 posts on Instagram. When looking specifically at evangelicalism, the numbers nearly double. The hashtag “#exvangelical” was viewed 1.1 billion times on TikTok and was assigned to 105,000 posts on Instagram. The behavior of Christians Beyond the issue of LGBTQ inclusion, Stanley did get one thing right: Many people object to the behavior of Christians, and that's not something new. When writing a letter to C.S. Lewis about potentially converting to Christianity, author Sheldon Vanauken wrestled with this exact thing in his book A Severe Mercy: The best argument for Christianity is Christians: their joy, their certainty, their completeness. But the strongest argument against Christianity is also Christians — when they are somber and joyless, when they are self-righteous and smug in complacent consecration, when they are narrow and repressive, then Christianity dies a thousand deaths. Apparently, some things never change — the behavior of Christians is a massive stumbling block for people coming to the religion and walking away. However, instead of dying a thousand deaths, Christianity is dying millions.” I don't believe in automatic forgiveness when it comes to heavy traumas. Forgiveness should be optional, not a requirement. Some people live healthy lives with forgiveness and some people live healthy lives without forgiveness. Religion doesn't encourage healthy channeling of emotions. Religion says there are negative emotions (which is a myth.) Religion encourages La-La Land, Fairytale Land, toxic positivity, spiritualizing, spiritual bypassing, gaslighting, sex-obsession, Fantasy Land, peaches and cream, sugar and rainbows, sugar and spice and everything nice, Kumbuya, can we get along and sing a song (let's be friends), Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy, doing the bare minimum, laziness, cruelty, stupidity, and every negative character trait. A lot of churches are fearful of losing the 501 (c) status so they avoid justice issues. Some churches are glad that The IRS allows them to endorse politicians and political parties to their congregations even though they know that they are not supposed to do according to the IRS. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

Happy Happy Joy Joy. Well, Happy Happy Paula Paula. That's how it feels whenever Paula Poundstone's around. It was another grey rainy day in SoCal, but the sun was sure shining on the interweb. I laughed pretty much non-stop, my cheeks hurt, in the good way, and a drop of water or two squirted out mine eyes, again, in the best possible way. We talked Paula's care back out in the world and on the road for well over a year and a half now. Doing loads of gigs, flying everywhere, she's more cautious than this COVID crazy, masks' everywhere, and I mean everywhere (some crazy funny stories), and she thankfully remains free of the dreaded thing. We talked health care. For Paula that would be Diet Pepsi, Hostess donut gems, Ruffles potato chips, about 300 situps, and a long walk with her two dogs, as well as caring for her ten cats, to whom she may now be allergic. With Paula, everything's funny––including her take on parenting, parental controls, her TV viewing, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, MSNBC, getting guests for her podcast, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone (except, we do), best guest, worst guest, recurring bits, self-taping an audition. Through the years Paula remains fearlessly honest, unassumingly humble, and downright HYSTERICAL. I'm not sure a sentence goes by without garnering a genuine laugh-out-loud guffaw. I love and adore this quicker, sharper, and brighter-than-lightning, firecracker. I've said it before, but it bears repeating––Paula may just be the funniest person on the planet. Long may she play! With us. For all things funny and Paula https://paulapoundstone.com Don't miss her Academic References! The famous film that brought together the power couple of Bogie and Bacall, Howard Hawks' To Have and Have Not is an enigma of sensual fascination. Ostensibly an adaptation of the famous Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name, but in actuality anything but, Hawks' laissez faire pairing of the hard-boiled Bogart and the sumptuous ingénue Bacall marinates in electric chemistry sparked between its two leads, emphasizing little else beyond their seductive rapport. The tropical Martinique setting and World War II background help set the stage for the film's undercurrent and intrigue, but its appeal pales in comparison to the iconic romance of the soon-to-be real life couple. We explore all the reasons why the film works so well despite the hodgepodge nature of its construction as well as a litany of subjects ranging from the latest M. Night Shyamalan film to the maligned history of innovative children's cartoons to the complete rage-induced disaster of Woodstock '99. Questions: Why is David, a man who did nothing when his daughter got raped considered a man after God's own heart, but Tamar, a victim of rape is not considered a woman after God's own heart? Why is Jephthah, a dude who made his daughter a victim of human sacrifice by his own hands apart of the Heroes of Faith Hebrews Chapter 11, but his daughter is not? Why is okay to be all milk, and no meat in so many houses of worship? Why is gossiping instead of one-one-one conflict resolution so prevalent in places of praise? Why is so many afraid of doubts, fears, worries, insecurities, sexual beingness, the possibility of absolute certainty being untrue, and their own anger? Why do so many in buildings of religion run away from being fully human and instead choose to live a one-sided humanity (Happy-Happy Joy-Joy)? How come Paul never wrote to the families of the Christians he mass murdered as a form of public repentance and open amends making? Why are they winning the worldliness competition when it comes to themselves vs the world? I think Christlikeness is written within us, not outside of us. I also think that we are the Christ figures that we have been waiting for. I love these eight points of Progressive Christianity: Focus: The teachings and life of Jesus provide them with a path to God. Pluralism: They recognize that others follow their own paths to God which are equally true for them. Communion: They view the sharing of bread and wine in Jesus' name to represent "an ancient vision of God's feast for all peoples." Inclusivity: All are welcome to become involved; persons of all genders, sexual orientations, traditions, races, etc. Reciprocity: How people treat one another is the "fullest expression" of their beliefs. Search: They find more grace in searching for truth than in accepting certainty. Community: They form communities to support each other in their quest for peace, justice, a restored environment, and to provide hope. Cost: Following Jesus involves a personal investment in "selfless love, conscientious resistance to evil, and renunciation of privilege." I am not the private life police. I repeat for the final time: I live the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like others to treat you. I live also live by the Silver Rule: Do not treat others in ways that you would not like to be treated. What you wish upon others, you wish upon yourself. As a do no harm principled person: I am live and let live meaning that all should be able to live their lives in the manner they want to, regardless of what other may think of them. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support
If the title didn't affect you, you either have no soul or your parents didn't let you watch this and we understand the latter. Ren and Stimpy was far and away the worst thing Nickelodeon got away with and it definitely affected us mentally in a disturbing and great way. It influenced adult cartoons for generations and we thank this abusive interspecies couple with all our hearts. Guest spot this round is Angelo Gingerelli, a great comic and author of Stand Up and Laugh. #comicscartooonsandcraftbeer #comicscartooonsandcraftbeerthepodcast #comics #cartoons #craftbeer #craft #beer #podcast #pod #cccthep #cccb #ashareduniverse #renandstimpy #ren #stimpy #nickelodeon #nicktoons #powderedtoastman #happyhappyjoyjoy #StayTooned --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/comics-cartoons-craftbeer/support

Why do I focus on mood and mental health? Well, at the core of it, when I was working with patients who were suffering from various physical ailments, I often found mood, mental and hormonal health at the bottom of it. After all, what do we want to be if not happy? I mean the reason your IBS or your PCOS or your CFS or your MS bothers you is that, ultimately, it makes you unhappy. And so, for me and for most of us, health is happiness. I also saw SO MANY solutions in my naturopathic toolkit to solve depression, anxiety and hormonal issues--new, science-based ways of looking at how our bodies and minds function--that weren't anywhere to be found in the conventional system. I was excited to share these tools and resources and strategies with my patients. But good health isn't the only route to happiness. Dr. Ellen Wong, my supervisor and teacher when I was at CCNM, and a fellow ND, knows this. Ellen decided to focus on happiness when she, like me, realized that it was the key component to helping her patients live an amazing life. Ellen had her own struggles with perfectionism and depression and so, to heal herself (I mean so many of us are in this game to first heal ourselves and then lead others on the paths we've blazed through, scratches on our faces from the underbrush, machetes still in hand... good visual, I digress) and heal her patients, she began to study happiness. Her studies took her to the happiest place on Earth... nope not Disneyland... is Disneyland that happy? There's no real food there and Mickey is quite elitist... but to Bhutan, a country that has a Happiness Index. We talk Bhutan, snow days, we talk about mindset, we talk happiness. It's a terrific episode. Dr. Ellen is a real gem and I miss her Saturday clinic shifts. This was a fun catch up. We also talk technology and how it doesn't necessarily have to alienate us. Also: the little relationships are just as important (or at least they're important) as the deep soul connections. We need both. And, of course during this time we're missing out on the those day-to-day casual interactions with the local barista. Dr. Ellen describes herself as a recovering high-functioning overthinker (if this is you, you HAVE to listen to this episode, we talk so much overthinking... it's great). After two hospitalizations she reached a tipping point--she burnt out. How many of us have been there? Or are there? Or are getting there? Although she appeared like she "had it all together" - she secretly lived with never ending mental chatter that left her feeling overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted and unhappy. Realizing this was not how she wanted to spend the rest of her life, she set out to learn how to stop overthinking and reframe her negative thought patterns. As the Founder of The Joy Avenue, a Confidence Coach and a Creatrix® Transformologist®, Ellen works with women who are tired of feeling overwhelmed, self-doubt and anxious and guides them towards feeling calm, confident and free. But what she's most passionate about is helping women prioritize their happiness as much as their success. Just Chuck and I this week, but we have plenty of Smod Content for all the Ants who now love us (maybe?)! We talk about Song Exploder and the trailers for WandaVision and Console Wars (with a slight tangent to the Cola Wars of the 80's). We get psyched for the Scott Pilgrim game re-release and express concerns and joy about the Adam Sandler film "Hubie Halloween." Chuck tells me about the documentary "Class Action Park" and its quality. We then discuss Pretending I'm A Superman, a documentary about the history of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games, as well as Happy Happy Joy Joy, a documentary about Ren and Stimpy. We discuss the re-release of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 for current gen systems and briefly mention the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Chuck tells me about Being John Malkovich, which somehow gets us to the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. Chuck then regales me with the tale of his recent trip to Jersey. Filming for Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, eating at Mooby's, hanging at Smodcastle - fun stuff across the board! Following that, we talk about art from our past that we created that we are now ashamed of and question what to do with it. - BradMP3 Download

Ashley & Blake were truly the most relaxed, joyful, smile-y couple from start to finish on their wedding day and while we know that some of that is just the kind of people they are, we can't help but think that some of their day-of attitude was also by design. Christy was Ashley and Blake's wedding planner at their wedding a month ago in Dallas, and we wanted them on the podcast today to share their advice and hindsight about their wedding day...and specifically how they both stayed so darn happy all day long. What they did, and didn't do, that led to such a positive experience: We present to you, a retrospective, from Ashley and Blake, the happiest couple ever.
