Her students know her as Ceci. She is part of a team that delivers near peer prevention in local middle and high schools, teaching from lived experience rather than from a textbook, and she builds her presentations around quotes and stories that teens recognize from their own lives. She entered an abusive relationship at fourteen with an older partner and stayed in it for ten years, a decade she now uses to show students how control can arrive disguised as protection. She left at twenty-four, when her oldest daughter was two months old. Today she is raising three daughters, and she talks with students about la tóxica, love bombing, the silent treatment, and the rights every young person has: to feel safe at home, to be a kid, and to be loved in a healthy way.Key Points• Control often arrives in the language of protection, which is why it survives the first look. Ceci's partner came to her soccer practices to walk her home safely, and that became the reason she should stop playing.• The silent treatment is the first flag most teens miss. Someone who cares will have the conversation about what went wrong; withholding it is a punishment, and it shows up long before anything physical does.• An apology that arrives as a gift is one more turn of the cycle. He broke her phone whenever he got angry and replaced it within hours with one her parents could not have afforded, which made the next break easier to absorb.• Time in the wrong relationship is the cost that compounds. Ceci tells students, "If you get on the wrong bus, make sure you get off on the first stop," because she stayed on from fourteen to twenty-four.• Blame does its damage by moving the rules off the record. Once she was reading his face for permission he never had to forbid anything out loud, and she started deciding for herself not to see her friends.• A teen's playlist is a way in, and calling it bad music closes the door. Ceci wanted her mother to ask why she loved the sad, heartbroken songs she played loud enough to get told to turn them down.• Home sets the first model of love, so prevention starts before any relationship does. Ceci grew up without a picture of what affection looks like and assembled one from television, the same gap she now watches teens fill with Euphoria.• Teens act on rights before they act on warning signs. Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are Vogue's September cover stars! They had the glow of two people running on adrenaline and very little sleep when they joined The Run-Through for their first joint interview just ahead of The Shards premier day. The two stars of Ryan Murphy's new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's book were candid, funny, and clearly delighted to be doing press together for the first time. Asked for her elevator pitch, Gerber, a Ryan Murphy veteran who counts herself among Ellis's biggest fans, called the show a "seductive drama thriller" following privileged teenagers at an elite 1981 Los Angeles prep school as they collide with obsession, identity, and violence. Gere, for whom this was his first-ever podcast interview, offered a punchier synopsis: Euphoria, he said, "if it was in the '80s and was also a horror and was also Glee."  Much of the conversation turned, fittingly, to what makes Ellis's work so unsettling in the first place. For Gerber, the answer lies not in the show's more graphic moments but in the eerie flatness with which her character and the rest of the cast greet even the most traumatic events. "A lot of the horror comes from the lack of reaction to the horror," she explained. Gere agreed, describing it as less shock than slow-building dread. The two also traced the emotional throughline back to their September cover shoot, photographed by Steven Meisel. It was another first for Gere, though Gerber has worked with the photographer since she was thirteen. Watching him find his footing on set, she said, felt like he'd "been doing this since you were 13." Gere and Gerber had the intimate, inside-joke energy of two people who've spent the better part of a year together on set. There was the cast's six-person group chat, unfortunately nicknamed "The Sharts"; Gere's failed attempt to sneak home a pair of the show's leather pants, which he wore, by his own count, for six months straight, and the very sweet wrap gift that Gere chose for Gerber. Tim has never been happier to be wrong: he had LeBron going to Cleveland, then Golden State or Miami, and instead he got the biggest thing in Philadelphia sports history. Xfinity Mobile Arena is MSG now, Broad Street is Broadway, and anybody who lived through the process — Ish Smith, Evan Turner, Thad Young, Henry Sims — has earned this. John pours cold water: he's 42, the best player on the roster is Jaylen Brown, and nobody on that team knows this offense yet. Then John opens the curtain on something fans never see — what an NBA practice actually looks like after training camp ends, why teams won't let you watch it, and why LeBron will not take a full practice rep all season.
