Sustainable living isn't just about the environment. There is a human element that runs deeper than waste reduction, glass over plastic, biodegradable product choices or switching off the lights we don't use. Living in a more conscious way means we are preserving the sustainability of our environm…
"I’ve always tried to remind myself that there’s always something good that can come out of something bad … sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find it" said by Kietah Martens-Shaw, Founder of BOKideas and the guest on this episode.Kietah is a business owner who wears her heart on her sleeve and had a real shift when Coronavirus started to take over her life and all her business events got cancelled. Before BOKideas, she was a for-purpose event manager and was in the midst of running a month long event during March for a not for profit supporting the wheelchair impaired. This along with many others were cancelled which instantly put her in ‘what the hell am I going to do mode’. Amongst the tears and moments of gathering herself through meditation and talking with her support network she decided it was the perfect time to shift her focus to her new business B.OKideas. B.OKideas is all about supporting others and there is literally no better time than now to help people and businesses to exactly that. And this is why I wanted to reach out to her and talk to her because during upheaval this is what we need. Good stories, warm hearted and soul driven purposes. The B.OK Boxes are designed to support someone with an ‘air hug’ or ‘hug in a box’ with the social distancing restrictions or for HR Managers and management to support employees working from home and finding a new meaning of work/life balance. Not only has Kietah had to switch business purpose and mode, she has battled cervical cancer when she was younger and know the hardship of sickness, isolation and depression and has come through it as an inspiring woman doing inspiring things.I encourage you to follow her, see her boxes and even spread some 'air hugs' to anyone going through something that needs to feel that warmth.Website: www.bokideas.comInstagram: www.instagram.com/b.okideasFacebook Group: The B.OK Buddy CommunityFacebook page: www.facebook.com/B.OKideas

Rachel Favilla is only 23 years old and already she is an author, a comedic nutritionist and has overcome a chronic autoimmune liver condition. She is the youngest guest on the podcast and one of the most entertaining hands down. But more than that, she is really switched on when it comes to nutrition and sustainable living. There is much to be learnt from this young woman it comes to how you treat your body and to how to treat it better, as well as being a conscious consumer. She is all about habits and the mind when it comes to changing the lifestyle choices as she did this to overcome her chronic autoimmune liver condition. Her book "Periods, Poo & A Glorious You" is a unisex read that touches on just about every commonly confused aspect of health and nutritional sustainability and communicates ideas, habit change and serving suggestions in a laugh-out-loud fashion. Think cards-against-humanity, meets Oprah, meets Sarah Wilson. And you can check the book out below in the links and subscribe to her social media to see her witty posts and be in the loop of the new book she has coming up which is set to be just as wonderful. All about teaching people to forget food ‘rules’ as we’ve come to know them and embrace simple ingredients, their instinctive cravings and develop their creative skill set around serving suggestions and cooking so that they can save time, money and resources whilst keeping themselves nourished. If you head to her shop on her site below and purchase a copy of her book ‘Periods, Poo & A Glorious You’, and add a note to your order that says you listened to this podcast, you can take me up on an offer of a complementary 20-minute personalised nutritional Q&A with her via phone. Whatever burning questions you have, she will answer them. My mum always said to me that a flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it. It just blooms. And as it blooms it makes way for other flowers to do the same.Vanessa Haldane is a woman that has not only overcome adversity, since childhood but has bloomed beautifully in the process. She is the definition of not letting circumstances control your life but the decisions you make from the experience of those circumstances. Not only has she done this for herself, she has created a loyal following of raving fans through her social media channels which she uses to empower women to empower themselves. From body image, to emotional teachings and mental wellbeing, using herself as the example, she gives permission to these women who follow her to bloom from their wounds, make a difference to their life and those within their lives to create a life thats worthy of goodness. This has lead to the creation of the Journey to Worthy movement, creating waves amongst Australian women, mothers and their daughters to think bigger than their body, deeper than their past experiences and more meta than just being a mum or a woman but a human of self love and care, a role model to change generational beliefs of women.Amongst being a wife, and a mother to three daughters, creating the Journey to Worthy movement and her social challenges and modelling career, she is also studying to be a councillor. Vanessa is a force to be reckoned with, none of which has come by luck. It has come by mindset changes and repetition of it over time. This is an episode not to be missed, and a movement not to be taken lightly.Head over and follow her below and come and join me and many other women in her Journey to Worthy movement. You know that saying the more we share, the more we have. Well, when it comes to today’s guest, Helen Andrew she has built a platform and business based around this. She is the Founder of a sharing platform called Spare Harvest. Spare Harvest brings together people in local communities to exchange what they have spare in their kitchens and gardens. And its no wonder she has seen much growth and success within it, the waste facts are very clear that something different needs to disrupt the industry of waste and how people view it, understand it and work within it. The global cost of waste is estimated to be almost $1trillion a year and that food waste is more toxic to our planet than driving our cars or flying. When food or any organic matter ends up in landfill it produces toxic greenhouse gases including methane which is 25X more toxic than Co2.I learnt so much from Helen - like, when we waste all this food, we also waste all the resources that go into growing it, transporting it, storing it and selling it. So, the waste continues, yet while we waste this food, we also see people in our communities experience food insecurity. Globally there are 43 million people who can’t afford a quality meal every other day. Its unbelievable!!Why I love Spare Harvest so much is that it is a similar concept to ShareAbode. Its a platform that connects certain people for a certain common goal. Spare Harvest, is a community tool that connects people to share, swap, sell and source spare, idle and unwanted food and garden resources. The connection of people isn't just about waste, but its about creating a network thats sustainable socially and environmentally. Plus, educationally. This episode with Helen truly was one of those "WOW" podcasts that you know that when the word gets out about Spare Harvest to the masses, it can literally change many, many lives. So, I'd love you to help me do that and follow her social links and share this episode with anyone and everyone because the more we share the more we can care for our planet and everything living on it, including us.Website/Platform: https://www.spareharvest.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/SpareHarvestInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/spareharvestLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/helen-andrew/
Hands up who has done a spreadsheet budget at home, our even paid a company to do one for them and "take control" yet they find themselves back at square one in struggle again, or they continually find themselves deviating from what they put on their money spreadsheet? I will totally put my hand up to that, because I've been there and done that and if you have too, this episode will really get your mind ticking over. It's a combination of behavioural science in humans, habit discussion, money management and budgeting - WITH realistic tips and suggestions to get a hold of it right now. That’s why most people who do a budget don’t end up saving. The man behind the mic in this episode is Matt Hern. Matt has advised people for the last 15 years on the right financial decisions to achieve their goals, working as a Certified Financial professional. Now he offers money coaching to teach people a system, thats extremely personalised to them with their habits and behaviour surrounding money. He creates a system that automates their budgeting and supports them while they embed new, healthier habits. This podcast discussion brings into it a topic which is so important, as a parent which is the next generation and how they might not listen to us, but they definitely copy us - Making the relationship we have with money and how we behave with it vital for their ability to manage their money successfully in the future and become financially independent adults. And as my podcasts are at the moment, we talk about Coronavirus and the impact it has had on individuals and the economy as well as what the future financial reality might be. A possible controversial deviation of the idea that a personas individual financial income and savings can impact the global financial market. The more debt a person carries the more they borrow and the more they need financial aid, putting resources there as opposed to other areas that may be needed. It's a good ending to spice up the podcast and your experience at home in social isolation!!Matt makes a very good point, which sums the whole podcast up and that is that - Often we assume that struggling to stick to a budget is our fault. It’s not a character flaw, it’s a design flaw in the systems we’ve tried.I highly recommend you taking the opportunity while your at home with more time than you have had before to benefit from his free mini-guide "How to stick to a budget" which is available when you subscribe to his newsletter via his website link below:Website: https://matthern.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/matthern/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matthern_moneyguide/ LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/matthernYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/mattatfindre/
It's not everyday I get to speak with a simplicity expert. In fact, before today, I have to be honest. I did not even know such an expert existed! And for those of you who are in agreement (hopefully some, because then I don't feel so daft!) a Simplicity Expert is someone who can help you to cut the noise and complexity out of life so you can reconnect with what’s important to you. Might sound easy to do, but have you actually tried that and succeeded long term? I sure haven't.I'm Wilhelmina Ford, host of ShareAbode: The Podcast and the simplicity expert I chat with in this episode is a woman by the name of Bronwen Sciortino. If you recognise that name, its probably because she has three published books that have gone to international critical acclaim: ‘Keep It Super Simple’ , ‘The Economy of Enough’ and ‘Beyond AH-Ha’. Bronwen is sought to blog regularly for global platforms, and is regularly invited as a guest interviewee on TV, radio, blogs, podcasts, Facebook Live, YouTube and member sites situated throughout the world. This episode was recorded before the #Coronavirus got extreme here in Australia but the elements that are touched on such as technology overwhelm, stress and ability for it to creep into every part of our lives so we think we are busy, but in fact, not as busy as initially thought can be very powerful lessons as we self-isolate. Being stuck in our homes, with our constant power switch on causing harm to the body, inability to fully recharge, replenish and rest during sleep time can have really BIG impacts on how we regulate our emotional, mental and physical wellbeing during the day and those of everyone in the household.Brownwen doesn't administer the typical method of "cut it out of your life!!" She believes #technology is a fact of life, it's part of it - Heck, she built a global business through technology. What she teaches us is that life is only getting faster and more demanding – so for us to thrive we have to work out who we are within that environment of technology, aspirations and speed and once we know this then it becomes about the blend that works best for each individual. You WILL finish this episode knowing more about your values, whats important to you, the extent to how technology can work well and work poorly for you in mental, physical and emotional areas of your life and get some resources for you to delve into, in order to take that discovery further. Bronwen has generously offered you a 15% discount on individual book purchases from the below website:https://www.sheiqlife.com/shop (use code: KISS123) She has also put together some free tools fo you to use as follows:1. To kick off Season 2, the First Episode is a beautiful and insightful conversation with a woman by the name of Natasha Ritz. She is the co-founder of ARNAonline alongside her sister Arianne. They founded ARNA mid 2019 with the mission to empower women to make bold decisions. Her background has been in marketing and retail for many years, working for brands like LUSH, supporting teams to create sustainable growth in businesses. She works for brands that really look to create a social and environmental impact and not just to make a profit. Her current campaign is called Bold Moves and is focused on changing the stories we see and tell about ourselves as women. It’s about owning our own narrative and taking risks on ourselves to make a bold move. The idea is to be accountable and make a pledge to yourself about a Bold move you will make in 2020. The core focus is to push women’s voices and stories forward and to help the closing of the gender pay gap and the 208 years until parity that we’re currently looking at in Australia. It’s to challenge us women to also have these tough conversations with ourselves and to begin being supportive of each other rather than compete or put each other down.Continuing on with the discussion of sharing, we delve into the whole idea of what it really is all about, from a cultural, social and planetary aspect. How come different cultures share differently on a daily basis in terms of living? What sets us apart from the cultures that have this as their normal way of life? And how does the interconnectedness of everything on life come together? From sustainable business practices and product delivery lines, to communal living and sharing "the load" and all the way to what is taught in the school system to the next generation. It is a diverse range of points that fall under the central idea "One Planet, One Health".I hope you love this episode and uncover some things, as I did, that you never would have thought of, had this not been something you listened too. If you do love it, please tell me, through a review or subscribe, and as always, please continue sharing this podcast so we can keep having these intentional, deep and somewhat controversial discussions.Thank you to Natasha who has extended to you, for listening a 15% off discount from her online store: www.arnaonline.com.au - Just head there and use the discount code ShareAbode to get this discount in checkout.Head over and support her BOLD MOVES campaign and stay up to date with what she is doing through the following links:Facebook: www.facebook.com/arnaonlineauInstagram: www.instagram.com/arnaonlineLinkedin: www.linkedin.com/company/arnaonline
In this episode of ShareAbode: The Podcast I chat with Fairien Azeem, a mother of 3 and also a long career if 25 years within the finance industry. She runs her own mortgage brokerage and financial planning business and has recently started a new endeavour called Financially Savvy Society which is all about empowering women to live a life of financial wellbeing. She teaches them financial strategies in plain English and finds a way to make finance fun, sexy and fabulous. She does this through online courses to help improve their financial literacy and she run workshops and retreats.I took a lot away from chatting with Fairien, especially when it comes to the mindset of money and the creation of good money habits. Her strategies are simple and effective and if put into place will help anyone with financial understanding as well as control. And with her mindset philosophy around money it really kicks home the very thought creates your reality, including money that comes and goes from your life. This isn't just for those of you struggling financially, this is also for those who want to continue to improve their financial standing, that want to teach their kids about money habits and also the relevance of the immediate gratitude vs rainy day argument.Fairien has kindly offered all listeners a great little incentive to help them help themselves when it comes to money and finance and that is her Cashflow Success online program. It's a 6 week course that will teach you how to budget and manage your money. In this episode I talk to Jade Walker who first caught my eye when I read about her raising funds for her friend and her cancer battle through doing marathons. She is a single mum also and it blew me away. Single mum life is challenging in itself, and then adding on training and running not just one marathon but more and more - out of the goodness of her own heart to help a friend and her family just gave me an intense desire to reach out to her.The resilience and persistence alone needed for training for these marathons is intense, let alone actually doing them and all whilst you got little ones to care for as their main provider. Did I mention she is also a business owner too!! Her outlook is fantastic, she is down to Earth and it was a real pleasure to chat with her.She has some really great advice, hint and tips on co-parenting effectively, how she started her business as a single mum and how she was moved through the initial single mum struggle phase as a new single mum into a more mature and experienced one. I hope you enjoy listening to her, hearing her story and get some really wonderful advice from her experience through her journey so far.
