Is romantasy dead? That's the question we try to answer on our latest Short Stories episode. Ayesha gets the ball rolling by giving her thoughts on recent romantasy read, QuickSilver, and what booktok's take is on Silver Elite. This leads us to question what exactly romantasy means these days and why all of the sudden it seems like newly published romantasy books are giving us…well, nothing. No plot, only vibes (if even that). After airing our many grievances with the genre, we try to end with recommending some romantasy books we do actually enjoy!

Stroke is one of the biggest causes of death in the world — but also one of the most preventable. Up to 80–90% of strokes could be avoided with more awareness, resources, and a firmer focus on prevention over intervention. In this episode, we're joined by renowned stroke neurologist and public health pioneer Dr. Olajide Williams, MD, MS, whose ‘Hip-Hop Stroke' movement is a shining example of enacting culturally-sensitive community-wide healthcare change. In this episode, we discuss: • What actually causes a stroke (and how to spot one in seconds using the ‘act FAST' acronym) • Why blood pressure is the #1 modifiable risk factor (and how stress and sleep impact it) • How social determinants like ZIP code and health literacy shape stroke risk • How Dr. Williams' Hip Hop Stroke campaign helped kids teach their parents how to save lives • What every family should know about TIAs (‘mini-strokes') and silent strokes Whether stroke runs in your family, or you simply want to protect your brain, this episode could change (and save) lives. Worlds collide in the latest BOOKSPO, in which Uzma Jalaluddin contemplates her pivot from romance writing to crime fiction. Or was it actually a pivot after all? It turns out that Jalaluddin's history with crime fiction goes way back, to her own voracious reading as a teen, and even further—to her grandfather's library in India, which included the novels of Agatha Christie. How did one of Christie's best known works, THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD, inspire DETECTIVE AUNTY, set admidst a Muslim community in modern day Toronto? How was Jalaluddin inspired by her mother's generation to give a unique twist to her Miss Marple-like character? And how is a mystery novel structured like an inside-out romance (which poses quite the challenge for the writer moving from one genre to the other?). Listen to find out! How can we eat better when we're constantly marketed to in a way that hijacks our attention and habits? To complement the incredible discussions we regularly have about brain-healthy nutrition, in this episode, we've having a very important conversation about how the food industry works against our best intentions, and how we can break through the psychological barriers they use to hold us back. We're joined by Marion Nestle, Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, Emerita, at New York University, whose name is practically synonymous with food policy: a pioneering nutritionist, public health advocate, and author of some of the most important books in this space, including Food Politics, What to Eat, and Unsavory Truth. In this episode, we discuss: • The neuroscience of why food choices aren't “just willpower” • Why access, not just knowledge, is the biggest barrier to good nutrition • The importance of schools, policy, and local food programs in shaping food culture • The role of stress, fatigue, and decision overload in weakening dietary choices • Why social media is a double-edged sword for nutrition information • How we can make a difference at the community level This is... In episode 118 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield take on NBA's greatest 3-point shooter, Stephen Curry and his entrepreneurial wife, Ayesha Curry. The two first met as teenagers and remained friends until a romantic spark was lit and they decided to take their relationship to the next level, eventually marrying and having four children together. First, we look into Ayesha's chart and see a willful, self-motivating Aries Sun. This, combined with a square from Uranus produces someone who makes her own rules and loves to move at lightening speed. However, finding balance is importanat to her as well thanks to her Libra Moon. We also notice an intuitive stellium in Pisces which makes the art of sacrifice easy for her. Next we look at Stephen's chart, and see a proud champion thanks to his Leo Rising sign and his Sun in the athletic and adventurous Ninth House. He's always on the hunt for bigger and better accomplishments. We also see an Aquarius Moon, giving him an outsider quality that sets him apart from other players. However, he also has a challenging T-Square from Venus and Pluto causing tension and issues with power dynamics in relationships. Looking at their compatibility, they have a strong, romantic conjunction between his Sun and her Venus in Pisces, creating feelings of true love and compassion. We also see a promising Sun/Moon sextile, telling us they're partners in crime, but also supportive of each other. But a Saturn/Sun square along with Moon/Mars square definitely adds challenges to the marriage. Careers versus Love, Impatience versus Sensitivity and a heavy sense of responsibility might not make this relationship so easy. Listen in to hear what Venus score this long-standing couple receives! Tripped-out excursions through percussive club music with the Nowadays resident. Ayesha Chugh, AKA Ayesha, makes club music that activates the body. The Brooklyn-based artist has spent the last few years carving out a distinct lane in modern club music. Her fusion of dubstep, techno and essential '90s rave elements into dynamite club tools that test and support dancers in equal measure. This time though, for her RA Podcast, Chugh purposefully tilts in a "more colorful wonky direction." Since first turning heads with releases on labels like Fever AM and Kindergarten Records, she's continued to refine a sound that feels both playful and punishing, marked by writhing basslines, rumbling drums and an innate ability to make bodies move. Her productions capture a kind of kinetic precision—tracks that are slippery yet forceful, balancing psychedelic textures with dubstep-like physicality and club-focused power. As Andrew Ryce wrote of her debut, Rhythm is Memory, her skill is "full of textures that wrap around the otherwise thudding, sub-heavy kick drums." After a serious accident in 2024 stopped her in her tracks, this year marks a full return to global touring with a new vantage point on life and the sound she seeks to push. RA.983, clocking in at nearly two and a half hours, finds Chugh flexing that club muscle once again. Offering a tour through global club music both old and new, it's based around a set at her home base Nowadays this February. It's a patient but relentless ride: from deep, tunneling psytrance, progressive techno and slippery electro before really turning on the gas at the half mark, moving into slanted UK techno territory. As she explains in the Q&A, it's a carefully curated selection of tracks that probes "what we perceive as tasteful." It's a mix that speaks to her deep knowledge of dance music's lineage—and her intuitive ability to push it forward. @aye5ha Find the interview and tracklist at ra.co/podcast/983
In this episode of Pastoral Thoughts, Chaplain Ayesha Kruetz shares her powerful testimony of redemption and purpose. Raised in a dysfunctional home by hippie parents, she struggled with addiction, experienced the pain of abortion, and navigated life as a young mother. But everything changed when she encountered Christ. Now a passionate advocate in the pro-life movement and a leader with the Frederick Douglass Foundation, Ayesha speaks boldly on faith, truth, and the power of transformation. Tune in to hear her incredible story and the calling that drives her today. Enjoy!
First of all, we are old. Like, what is happening?! My allergies are out here fighting for their life, and Dex's back is giving up on her. If y'all have any remedies for allergies that don't involve me living in a bubble, let me know because I am struggling. But let's get into it—this week, we had a very heated debate over Ayesha Howard and Anthony Howard. Listen, I just have questions—like, is it okay to still be making major mistakes at 38 when choosing who to have a baby with? Because at some point, shouldn't we be making better decisions? Meanwhile, Dex is over here saying we're all making assumptions about Ayesha's situation, and she deserves more grace. And the big question—should a woman give up her baby just because the man makes it clear he doesn't want to be involved? Whew. We got into it. Speaking of bad decisions at our big age, we took a little detour to talk about the Take It Down Act—which, yes, is being pushed by Melania Trump. It's aimed at protecting people from revenge porn, but it had us asking—are grown people still sending nudes in 2025? Then we switch gears to 19-year-old Aleyshia Ortiz, who is out here suing her school district for graduating her without knowing how to read or write. WHO is to blame for this? The school system? Her parents? Dex is out here calling for George Bush's standardized testing (who knew she'd miss that?!), and I—Carla—am putting this one on her mama.Because how do you not notice your child can't read?! We need to hear from y'all! Should Ayesha have kept the baby? Are we too old to be sending nudes? And who do we blame for Aleyshia's situation? Hit us up! Let's talk about it.
In episode 03, Ayesha and Angelica are joined by Student Success Officer Adella to share and chat about their experiences of living and studying in London. They discuss the challenges of adjusting to the city's fast-paced lifestyle, high cost of living, and competitive housing market while also highlighting the vibrant opportunities London offers—from cultural diversity and student discounts to free events and green spaces. They offer practical advice on budgeting, making the most of student resources, and navigating both university life and future career prospects. Whether you're new to London or considering studying here, this episode provides valuable insights into student life in the capital. Ayesha Adamo is an academic, performing artist, and filmmaker currently working towards a PhD in Religion at Rice University under Jeffrey J. Kripal. Her dissertation project explores fluid cosmological ideas, both historically and in current quantum mechanics. She holds an MA in Religious Studies from Universiteit van Amsterdam's Centre for the History of Hermetic Philosophy & Related Currents and is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a degree in music. Rumor has it she was once in an Asian pop band on EMI Records. Her most recent articles can be found in Anthropology of Consciousness and Religious Studies Review. She is also an ordained Hierophant and Grand Chief of Temple of Thelema. In this discussion, we first look at Georges Bataille and his interpretation of the Acéphale. Bataille (1897-1962) was a philosopher and intellectual, interested in surrealism, and anti- fascist, who, in 1937 founded two groups with the goal of exploring how combinations of power and ‘the sacred' were at play in society. The first group was called the College of Sociology that gave lectures (exoteric group); the second group was Acéphale, an esoteric ‘secret society.' Additionally, a public review by the same name, whose emblem was a headless man, was published in 1936. Ayesha talks a bit about this Acéphale emblem and what this represents, including remarks about the connections to Aleister Crowley's concept of The Abyss; the notion of receptivity, and the difference between the ‘magical' and ‘mystical' currents. Moving from Bataille to George Balanchine, the famous choreographer who co-founded the New York City Ballet Company in 1948; Balanchine is probably most known for his plotless ballets and minimalism, and has a famous quote, “Don't think Dear, just do!' Ayesha shares how are she is linking these two figures and the concept of the Acéphale. She is currently thinking about how the meditative state is the artist's state as well.Ayesha then expands on her 2023 article, “The League of Endarkenment: Hakim Bey and the Way of Disappearance into Nature” talking about “Endarkenment” and how this fits into this same area of headlessness, the mandrake, and disappearance.Lastly, taken from her paper abstract, Ayesha talks more about what she means by “the open fluidity of no-mind” and “the performance of headless meditation.”*Note 1: I mistakenly say ‘Endarkment' instead of ‘Endarkenment' (my apologies!); plus, around the 29:00 minute mark, the name ‘D.T. Suzuki' is unfortunately cut off due to audio issues. Please find more information about Suzuki in the program notes below.*Note 2 (Not Ignoring the Elephant in the Room): Peter Lamborn Wilson, who wrote under the name ‘Hakim Bey,' was a controversial figure, and unfortunately, rumors have arisen surrounding some of his writings regarding NAMBLA. Accusations were made by a particular website (run by one person, a fellow anarchist) against Wilson, and due to the nature of the internet, damaging assumptions were made. This article A Tribute to Peter Lamborn Wilson - The Brooklyn Rail is a collection of testimonials, and discusses this matter in more detail, giving much needed context.PROGRAM NOTES:Ayesha Adamo | Student | The People of Rice | Rice UniversityAyesha Adamo | Rice University - Academia.eduInstagramAyesha Adamohttps://www.hds.harvard.edu/faculty-research/programs-and-centers/program-evolution-spirituality#:~:text=The%20Program%20for%20the%20Evolution%20of%20Spirituality%20%28PES%29,also%20prepares%20students%20for%20ministry%20in%20these%20mov (More information forthcoming regarding this program and how to join remotely!)It Takes a Lunatic | Officiële Netflix-websiteORGCHAOSMIK - GUSTAF BROMSD.
