This Mother's Day, minister to a single mom of a son. Every single mom is a hero. And single moms who have boys? They should wear capes. Raising a boy– who needs a ton of exercise, outdoor activity, focused attention, and healthy risk taking– is a joy, but can be exhausting. If you don't know a single mom, ask a local church about their single moms ministry– they will be able to give you some names. Then, pray about the best gift to give. Some ideas are an anonymous check, a grocery gift card, or a coffee gift card. And if you know her well, offer to take her son on a fun outing. You won't only be giving her a break, but her son will appreciate the extra attention. To learn about the five critical needs of boys, visit Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

Tracy Rodgers shares how she went from living in low-income housing to building a network marketing team of over 45,000 and generating more than $10 million in monthly sales.Tracy shares her raw, transparent story filled with ups and downs, self-sabotage, breakthrough moments, and her return to the profession that changed her life forever. If you've ever felt stuck or doubted your path in network marketing, this episode will reignite your belief and drive. Her Humble BeginningsTracy's journey began as a single mom of four living in a small town. She joined her first direct sales company because it was free to start. Though the products were unattractive and the tools were minimal, she jumped in with hope and energy. She had early success due to her personality, but her unwillingness to get out of her comfort zone caused her teams to collapse. Repeated cycles of starting over led to frustration and burnout, eventually pushing her to leave the industry for a while. The Turning Point in 2017In 2017, Tracy had a breakthrough when a new opportunity reignited her passion. She decided that she couldn't do things the same way and expect different results. That led her to read You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero multiple times and dig deep into personal development. She made a list of 120 names and committed to calling 10 people a day. Although 100 people told her “no,” the 20 people who said “yes” helped her build a massive organization.Facing Rejection and Building ResilienceOne of the most impactful moments was when Tracy got harshly rejected on her ninth phone call during her outreach. It was so discouraging that she almost quit. But instead, she kept going—and that decision changed everything. Within months, her team exploded.Tracy learned that success comes just beyond the point where most people give up. As Simon quoted: “The temptation to quit is greatest when success is right around the corner.”Tracy's Daily Method of Operation (DMO)Tracy believes consistency and intention are key to long-term success. Here's her simple DMO:Write down the 6 most important tasks the night beforePrioritize follow-ups, customer calls, social media engagement, and team trainingCarry over any unfinished tasks to the next day's top 6Break your day into four 15-minute Power Hour blocksStay grounded in personal development dailyUsing Faith to Guide Her BusinessTracy openly shares how her faith transformed her business. She dedicates her business to God and wears her “Prayer is in My Business Plan” shirt as a daily reminder. Surrendering her goals and decisions to God helped her manage stress and find peace in the process. She believes when you lead with integrity, intention, and faith, not only will you attract the right people to your business—but also to your spiritual walk.Advice for New Network MarketersIf you're starting from scratch, Tracy's advice is clear:Take your business everywhere—your mouth is your officeCompliment people and start conversations everywhere you goWeave your product or opportunity naturally into lifeJoin local networking or school groupsFocus on creating relationships, not just posting onlineFavorite Quotes by Tracy Rodgers“Your success is determined by the number of lives you impact.”“Be the best version of YOU that God created you to be.”“Successful people just do the basics better.”Tracy's Go-To Prospecting MethodOld-school still works. Our heartfelt and empowering conversation was recorded at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Dallas with Danette Joy Crawford—TV show host, evangelist, author, and international speaker, known for her popular program “Joy with Danette Crawford.” Together, we tackle the timely and important topic of reclaiming a woman's joy and power. Danette shares her personal journey of overcoming deep challenges, including the heartbreak of facing single motherhood just days before giving birth. With vulnerability and wisdom, she offers practical, faith-based steps for moving forward, even when life feels overwhelming. From “soul control” and cultivating unshakable joy, to building community and the importance of reaching out for support, Danette's insights will encourage any woman feeling powerless, isolated, or stuck in a “pit.” Tune in for uplifting stories of transformation, real talk about mental health, and actionable tips on jump-starting your day with joy and reconnecting with your true purpose. Whether you're a busy mom, single woman, or simply in need of hope, this conversation will remind you that your current situation is only temporary—and joy can once again be your source of strength. Here's a glimpse of what's inside this episode: Danette's Personal Story of Strength Danette shares her powerful testimony of facing abandonment when she was nine months pregnant and how she chose not to “quit in the pit” but to take one step of faith at a time. Her journey reminds us that even in our deepest struggles, our stories are far from over. The Secret to Soul Control Do you find your emotions running the show? Danette explains the concept of “soul control”—learning to bring your mind, will, and feelings under the authority of your spirit so you can move forward rooted in truth, not tossed by circumstances. Daily Joy-Boosting Habits Danette suggests kickstarting each morning by proactively choosing joy—spending even five minutes with God, meditating on scripture, and setting positive intentions for the day. Small choices can yield unshakable joy! The Power of Community Isolation can make struggles feel heavier. Danette emphasizes reaching out—whether to friends, a faith-based group, or a supportive ministry. She reminds us that community is key, especially when we least feel like joining others. When to Seek Extra Support If you find yourself feeling persistently down, losing (or gaining) significant weight, neglecting self-care, or wanting to withdraw, Danette encourages seeking help, including counseling or prayer support. Resources to Encourage You Danette's ministry offers 23 outreach programs focused on helping single moms and at-risk youth. She also has a devotional, “The Power of Joy for Women,” available wherever books are sold. For prayer or support, her ministry's phone center is open 24/7 at (757) 420-2625. A Final Word of Hope No matter what you're facing, “where you're at is not your final destination.” Your breakthrough can start with a single, faithful step—and your hope might be exactly what someone else needs. In this episode, we're excited to introduce Jen Zwick, the Family Support Specialist in the Single Moms Program at Hope Bridge. Jen shares her heart for walking alongside single mothers and highlights some of the challenges these families often face. Did you know that 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 are raised by a single mother? That's about 13 million children growing up without a father. In Ohio, nearly two-thirds of all children living in poverty are in single-mother or grandmother-led households. Poverty is often misunderstood as neglect due to issues like poor housing conditions or food insecurity, which can lead to increased involvement from child welfare systems. At Hope Bridge, we believe in stepping in before that happens—offering stable housing, supportive services, and practical help to moms facing crisis in our communities.Through our residential program, single moms (ages 18 and older) live in a safe, supportive home with their children for 9–12 months while working toward personal goals. We provide mentorship, help with education, budgeting, life skills, and healthy meal planning. Moms are also encouraged to connect with local churches and build community support. It's all about creating stability and equipping moms to thrive. We've also launched Empower U, a new skill-focused support group for single moms that meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Compassion Center. This is a space where moms can continue learning and growing with the support of others. We are currently looking for volunteers to get involved by teaching skills, providing meals, or helping with childcare. If you're interested, check out the links below to learn more and sign up. Together, we can be the village that makes a difference in the lives of single moms and their children.Episode Highlights: Meet Jen Zwick, our Family Support Specialist in our Single Moms Program Single Mom's Program at Hope Bridge What is Empower U?Volunteer to help out at Empower UFind More on Hope Bridge:RSVP to attend Empower U!Volunteer for Childcare at Empower U Schedule a time to chat with MelLearn more about our Single Moms Program! My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Shelby Saville, author of the book And They Had a Great Fall. Shelby resides in a suburb west of Chicago. Despite her city living, she's a small-town girl at heart. She grew up in a town of 2000 people where she spent her teenage years at her typewriter late into the night. Her stories brought her to a world beyond the 1.6 square mile radius of her town. Her first writing job was for the Lacon Home Journal, where she covered the news of the town. She particularly loved writing obituaries, taking great care to convey the life of someone's friend … sibling … lover…. But still the city was calling. She moved to Chicago when she got her dream job in the advertising industry. Throughout her career she realized she had an interest in digital media. She's spent the last 25 years at Publicis Media where she's focused on media investment – quite simply – how advertising space is bought and sold. Most surprisingly, she found her career in numbers, not words. She's returned to the world of words with her debut novel, And They Had A Great Fall. It's a second chance love story, set in a foreign city with a dash of a celebrity secret romance. Writing this novel has felt like coming home as the two sides of her brain merge. When not at her computer, she can be found hanging with her husband, Scott, teenage daughter, three dogs and one mean cat. In my book review, I stated And They Had a Great Fall is a wonderful romance that had me in all of my emotions. For me, it was particularly poignant since we learn early on that Kat lost her husband to cancer five years earlier - and she is having a heck of a time moving forward. Although she is much younger than me, has a young child at home, and was in the midst of an important corporate career, I still felt a kinship. Kat's love interest, Jake, is someone well outside her norm. Everything about his life is what she claims to abhor - messy, emotional, spontaneous, and all-in. Jake sees that she offers a stability and sense of purpose he craves. But what happens when two broken people find one another and try to fix the other without first fixing themselves? I laughed. I cried. I raged. I cheered. But most importantly, I connected. This book should be on your TBR. In this deeply personal episode, I sit down with my mom to talk about what it was like raising my sister and me as a single, divorced mom working full-time. She opens up about navigating co-parenting with different rules, parenting through heartbreak, and showing up for her kids even when she felt completely broken. We talk about how divorce impacted her faith, how she kept shame from consuming her, and how the people in her life helped her survive one of the hardest seasons. My mom also shares what she wishes other single moms knew, and how she handled introducing someone new into our lives. It's emotional, honest, and filled with wisdom for any woman walking through divorce, single motherhood, or simply trying to hold it together when everything feels like it's falling apart. Plus, we laugh about the messy, real-life moments—like me locking myself out of the house and calling her at work to save me (again). If you're a single parent who's ever wondered, “Can I really do this?”—this one's for you. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Living Easy for more like this! Christian comedian Kerri Pomarolli knows what's it like to feel hopeless. After she and her comedian husband divorced, she didn't think anyone would want to hire her for Christian events again, so she holed up in her bedroom and hid under the covers, binge-watching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights, drinking coke and eating a balanced diet of M&M's and salt and vinegar potato chips. Becoming a member of the Single Moms' Club wasn't exactly on her bucket list, but God revealed a plan for her to reach a whole new group of people. That was the motivation for her to get out of bed and start working again as He provided opportunities she'd never expected. Kerri's resume includes being on the Tonight Show 29 times and named one of LA's Most Inspiring People by LA Voyage Magazine and Comedian of the Year by The Hollywood Red Letter Awards in 2022. In this episode Kerri shares her journey as a comedian and how she's making single parenting work for her and her two daughters. She also brings lots of humor as she shares her life experiences as well as practical advice for single moms. Even though divorce was never something she wanted, she's learned how God can use it for good.
