When God looks at the world, what does He see? Most certainly He sees the beauty of His creation, the perfect order of His design and the presence of His sons and daughters. But He also sees the horror of the multitude of sins. Even the slightest sin or imperfection cannot escape His sight. Imagine trying to take in the sins of the world with one glance. But in His perfect Mercy He allows Himself to be consoled by those humble and holy souls who are specially chosen by Him. Yes, all people are chosen, but certain souls respond to the heights of holiness more than others, and in so doing, combat the evils of our world in a powerful way. This is one of the unique callings of those living in the cloistered religious life, hidden from the world with a single focus on interior conversion. We may not see the benefit to such holy souls, but God does and His wrath is turned into Mercy, especially on account of these and all holy souls (See Diary #926).Reflect upon the fact that you are one of these chosen souls. You may not be called to the hidden life of a cloister, but you are called to achieve great sanctity. As God sees the holiness of your life, His justice is satisfied and His Mercy flows forth. Though the things you say, the thoughts you have and the prayers you pray may never be known by another, God who sees all things sees your heart and the holiness that you achieve in life. This holiness will do more than all the words and actions you could ever accomplish on your own. You are a chosen soul. I have some good news for you.  The majority of this episode doesn't involve politics!  I know, right?  A breath of fresh air.  Also, my guest is NOT the Senator!  How about that?  My guest is my OP from my radio days and like you she is coming out of  quarantine/ hibernation and like most of you… probably… she's watched a little more television, I'm sorry, streaming content in the last year and change than usual.  And we settle on talking about “The Crown” on Netflix.  Yes, it's been on for years but since when has this show ever been cutting edge about anything? Personally, I'm on season 4 of The Crown, which brings in Princess Diana and I'm finding it a bit hard to watch.  I remember my mother waking up at 4 or 5 am in the Summer of 1981 to watch the wedding.  I never knew my mom gave a hang about that stuff but there she was with the TV on.  I heard the TV on so I went in and watched it with her.  I do remember how wildly popular Princess Diana was and The Crown gives a look behind the curtain of the royal family and in many, many instances it's not pretty. In fact, speaking of being behind things like curtains, if you've watched any amount of The Crown, my observation is that the producers and directors really want you to know that these people are imprisoned as much as they are entitled.  I have found there to be lot's of camera angles depicting a solitary Queen Elizabeth in shadowed profile, lot's of long shots of the queen through hallways sitting alone at a desk or fancy chair and many shots of Royals looking out a window at what is going on at the gates of whatever palace they're in or who might be pulling up, but always looking out the window and the window panes might as well be prison bars. So, Princess Diana… I'm finding it uncomfortable to watch some of this as she was part of my generation.  She would have turned 60 on July 1st of this year.  But in season 1 we find out about a very young, soon to be Queen Elizabeth.  Much sooner than she ever could have imagined and she probably didn't imagine it at all because it was her uncle who was King.  King Edward VIII.   About 13 minutes in my guest mentions The Wallace Simpson affair.  This is the reference to the woman who King Edward fell crazy in love with to the point he abdicated the thrown. So why wasn't King Edward allowed to marry Wallis Simpson?  Well she had been married… twice.  Once was enough to put her out of the running back in the pre World War II era.  During her first marriage she was touring China and while in Beijing she had an affair  with a man, got pregnant and had a fouled up abortion, which left her infertile.  How's that for hot gossip?  I guess it's not very hot when it happened almost a hundred years ago huh? Anywho!... the guy she had an affair with?  An Italian diplomat named Galeazo Ciano, who would later go on to become the son-in-law of… Benito Mussolini.  I guess she had a thing for dictators.  Bottom line, she was bad news to the Royal family and King Edward absolutely could not marry her.  But she had him hooked big time.   You might think of her as the Yoko Ono of the Royals. So we do talk quite a bit about “The Crown” as it pertains to history and the great actors in the series.  Then we have a quick phone interview, our first, with... a politician.  My OP used to be a news director and she still has some contacts into that world so… that's all I'm going to say for now.  Call it a surprise. We talk about the Crown and talk to a Clown… on the Modern Moron… I just did that ‘cause it rhymed. CLOSE - I'm not sure how to close this episode as I'm still processing that.  Um… maybe this is what we needed to get the Modern Moron to the next level?  I don't know.  My thanks to my Old Partner and by Old I don't mean in years but my old radio partner and thanks to her for her old journalism connections. Oh! Here's how we'll wrap up since we spent most of our time talking about The Crown on Netflix.  Production has ramped back up and I believe they plan to begin shooting this July so, buy the time you get to this, they could be shooting Season 5!  There will be a new Queen Elizabeth as they have changed every two seasons.  For Season 5 Queen Elizabeth will be played by Imelda Staunton.  While that may not be a household name in the U.S., Imelda Staunton has won at least 3 Laurence Olivier Awards for either best Actress or Best Supporting performances.  The Laurence Olivier Award in Britain is the equivalent to a Tony Award over here.  In 2005 you may remember she was also the lead in a film called Vera Drake for which she was nominated for an Oscar.  Hillary Swank won that year along with Clint Eastwood as director for Million Dollar Baby. If you haven't seen Vera Drake, and you like films about the commoner, they everyday person and you don't always need special effects in your films, you will not be disappointed.  The director is Mike Leigh who was also nominated that year for Best Director and for Best Original Screenplay.  Mike Leigh is sort of a director's director who relies on improvisation and that film required 6 months of rehearsal before they began shooting the film.   You WILL remember Imelda Staunton however, from the 5th Harry Potter film “The Order of The Phoenix” where she played Delores Umbridge who took over the school to replace Albus Dumbledore at Hogwarts?  Remember how hideous she was?  Watch that performance next to Vera Drake and you'll be as big a fan of hers as I am.  Can you tell? 4 Key Steps Away From Chaos Chaos... that ever-present foe (or friend) to some of you. How do you take much-needed steps away from it? How do you close the door on it and lock it out for good? Well, let's talk about that today! Happy Monday friends! Thomas Joyner with Business on Purpose here. Every single sales meeting we do inevitably comes back to employees and sales. Every. Single. One. But what's behind all of that? What's really at the core, the root of the problem? Chaos. It just boils up and keeps us from training our employees as well as we should. We're chasing revenue numbers and trying to meet sales quotas, so we never put in enough time to build out the necessary systems and processes to alleviate that chaos. So what happens? It just sits there, staring us in the face and daring us to make a change. But we don't. We just let it chase us around until we figure it out or burn out. So, how do you leave chaos behind? How do you turn the corner and get above the noise?  A few weeks ago we sent texts out to several of our clients to ask them that question. They are rocking the BoP Roadmap and the ones we texted are far enough along to have some perspective of how they got there. We sent them a simple text.  “If you were to tell someone in one sentence how to succeed as a business owner, what would you say.” We were asking in the context of new Business on Purpose clients, but the message translates to any business. Here are the top 4 answers we got: Put in the work and show up. We are asked all the time, “What's so special about the Business on Purpose Roadmap?” Our answer? It's packaged in a way that we can guarantee if you put in the work, you will see your business change. That may sound arrogant, but it's getting to the point where we've seen it work with enough businesses... so we have the confidence to say that. Just like boiling water. If you put water in a pot and add enough heat, it will start to boil. If you have a business and put in the time on your vision, mission, values, delegation, recording, and training on processes, everything we coach. You WILL get above the chaos. Here's where that's tough. You have to put in the work. We can't do it for you! Just a few weeks ago I was meeting with a business owner who wanted to work with us. I asked him how much time he would have, outside our coaching, to work on implementing this. He couldn't commit to any. So... I told him we may not be the right fit. That's right, turned down a sale. Because if you're not willing to do the work, we don't have a magic wand to wave over your business. It's hard work, but it will succeed if you put in the work and show up. Side bar there, if there's ever a coach or consultant claiming a magic wand to cure your business? RUN THE OTHER WAY! It never happens outside of hard work. Schedule time to work ON your business every single week, not just in it. I was really proud of my client who texted back this one. Early on he struggled to find the time to work on his business. There were a lot of fires burning. A lot of things to do and spinning plates to keep in the air! He was a little frustrated at how slowly he felt like the ball was rolling, so I challenged him to set non-negotiable time to implement what we talk about every week. If he will commit to that for 2 months and it's still not working, I'll tell him to walk. No questions asked. The beautiful thing? He scheduled the time, never missed a meeting with himself to work on his business and the snowball is cruising downhill. He has an effective team meeting, he has a team leader that's newly trained and crushing it as he leads in the field, and their finances are finally telling them something from subdividing their bank accounts and spying on their businesses money.  It's changed everything. But not without doing the work every week. Implement quickly... don't wait This one seems like second nature. Like, why pay for the coaching if you're not gonna insert this into your business. But we do this, right? We read self-help books and say, “Man, what a great book!” A year later, we can barely remember anything that stuck out about reading it. We go to a conference and listen to amazing speakers, but we don't write it down and implement it, so it's forgotten a month later. We remember the feeling, but there was no lasting impact.  So to succeed in business, you have to LEARN AND IMPLEMENT. It's why that's a core value at BoP. The longer you wait to implement, the less chance it has to make any kind of lasting impact. Put in the work and implement today. This week. Now! You get out what you put in, stop making excuses. This one was one of my favorites because it was accompanied by another little quote. “Excuses are like butts... every business owner's got one!” I love it! And it's so true. Everyone has a reason why it's not time for coaching or why they can't seem to get free from chaos. But when was the last time you drew a line in the sand? When was the last time you were so sick and tired of constantly putting out fires that you did something about it and stopped with the excuses? We've heard them all! “I'm just too busy, I'll jump on that when this slows down. We're just in a busy season. I can't find the right people. That doesn't work in this industry. You just don't understand!” Need me to go on? No, freedom from chaos begins the moment you get sick of it enough to do something about it, get help, and get to work. It will never happen on its own.
