Gov. Josh Shapiro on Tuesday unveiled a 53-billion-dollar state budget for the fiscal year that begins July first, the final budget proposal of Shapiro's term. Under the governor's plan, the spending gap would be made up by tapping into the state's rainy-day fund. Increasing public school funding is the big ticket item in the governor’s budget. But it’s not the only school policy he has in mind. Republicans in the state Senate say that Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget proposal would threaten Pennsylvania’s financial future if enacted. Republican Congressman Lloyd Smucker of Lancaster and York counties is suing Lancaster’s main newspaper. A Dauphin County judge dismissed Harrisburg mayor Wanda Williams' lawsuit over this year's budget, ruling that City Council was acting within its power when it defunded four positions within the mayor's administration. Pennsylvania State Police announce they're upgrading their vehicles with some of the latest technology. Those improvements include distinctive V-shaped light bars that provide full 360-degree illumination during traffic stops - and turn into arrow boards for traffic control - or floodlights for dark, hazardous conditions. Pennsylvania is expanding and improving its all-terrain vehicle trails and facilities across the state. The state's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announces it's awarding $1.4 million in grants for ATV projects in five counties in western PA and the Pennsylvania Wilds region. One of our region's high school athletic conferences has a new name. Why is it so hard to make decisions today that benefit you years from now? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most powerful — and underused — tools for long-term financial change: Future Financial You. You'll learn why most people struggle to delay gratification, why saving and long-term planning feel unnatural to the brain, and how the lack of connection to your future self keeps you stuck in short-term patterns — even when you know better. We'll explore the neuroscience behind future-self connection, why vague visions don't pull you forward, and how to stop trying to buy transformation through aspirational spending. Instead, you'll learn how to build your future from the inside out — through identity, emotional capacity, habits, time, and relationships. This episode walks you through a powerful framework and reflective exercise that helps you turn your future self into a real source of accountability — not through discipline or restriction, but through self-respect and care.

Most baseball families think "insurance" only becomes relevant after a player signs a pro contract — but the truth is, disability insurance is already shaping decisions in high school recruiting, NIL negotiations, and college roster building. In this episode of The Most Valuable Agent, MLB agent Matt Hannaford sits down with David Brookbank, co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), one of the most trusted independent voices in the disability insurance space for elite athletes. David has spent 30+ years inside disability policy structure, claims, and underwriting — and he's also deeply plugged into sports law and the business side of college athletics through Arizona State's sports law ecosystem. Together, they break down what disability insurance actually is (and what it isn't), why "loss of value" is the most misunderstood term in amateur baseball, and how families can avoid the biggest mistake: listening only to the person selling the policy. You'll learn the real layers of coverage (Permanent Total Disability, Critical Injury, Temporary Total Disability), how policy language can completely change whether a claim gets paid, why illness claims can be bigger than injury claims, and how universities are now using disability policies as a tool to attract and retain draft-level talent. If you're a parent, player, or coach trying to understand what happens if he gets hurt — and how to protect a future before the draft/NIL money shows up — this episode gives you the roadmap. Subscribe for weekly insight on player development, recruiting, and the business of baseball — with the truth families rarely hear early enough. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • What disability insurance is in sports — and why it exists • The 3 core layers of coverage: PTD vs Critical Injury vs Temporary Total Disability • Why most policies cover athletes 24/7, not just during games • The biggest misconception: why writers and families wrongly call everything "loss of value" • How Tommy John/UCL coverage varies dramatically based on policy wording • Why "required within 30 days" vs "performed within 30 days" can decide a claim • Hidden fine print that can void a payout (ex: % of season missed requirements) • The real claim rates David sees across hundreds of athletes each year • How universities handle insurance options (and why they can't "direct" one policy) • Why disability insurance is becoming part of NIL and revenue-share negotiations • How high school draft prospects use disability coverage as a college decision lever • What premiums can look like for pitchers — and why pitchers are the most expensive to insure • Why policy honesty matters: applications, medical records, and avoiding claim denial ABOUT DAVID David Brookbank is the co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), a specialty consulting firm that analyzes and advises on disability insurance policies for elite athletes across high school, college, and professional sports. David began his career in disability insurance over three decades ago and now focuses on independent policy review, education, underwriting guidance, and claims navigation — without selling the policies himself. He holds a master's in legal studies with a concentration in sports law and contract law and is deeply connected to the sports business ecosystem through Arizona State. ABOUT MATT HANNAFORD Matt Hannaford is a 25-year MLB agent and founder of Aligned Sports. In this episode of TRM Talks, Joshua Klayman, US Head of Fintech and Head of Blockchain and Digital Assets at Linklaters, joins Ari for a wide-ranging conversation on how legal frameworks around digital assets, tokenization, and blockchain-based finance are taking shape in real time. With nearly two decades of legal experience — and more than a decade working in crypto — Josh walks through how early blockchain work was shaped by skepticism around smart contracts, why the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) has become foundational to tokenized finance, and how lawyers and regulators continue to wrestle with the question of when a token is, or is not, a security under US law. They also dig into how global banks and startups alike are navigating stablecoin regulation, including emerging frameworks like GENIUS, and what it means to advise clients in an environment where precedent is still being built. From regulatory risk to tokenized treasuries, this episode is a clear, grounded look at where crypto law stands today — and where it's heading — from one of the lawyers helping define it.

If you're going through divorce and feeling overwhelmed by the financial decisions in front of you, you are not imagining it. There is far more to divorce financial planning than most people are ever told. Divorce creates financial challenges that most traditional financial advisors simply are not trained to handle, which is why I invited Jamie Lima, a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and the founder of Allegiant Divorce Solutions, to the show to help demystify the financial realities of divorce. Jamie explains why dividing assets during divorce is rarely as straightforward as it seems, especially once taxes, retirement accounts, and long-term consequences are factored in. We talk about some of the most common and costly blind spots women face, including critical documents like QDROs, along with who actually carries the tax burden when assets are divided.  Throughout the conversation, we come back to one essential truth. You should not be navigating this alone. Divorce requires a team, and having the right financial expertise can protect your future long after the paperwork is signed. What you'll hear about in this episode: What a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst does and why divorce financial planning is different from traditional financial planning (2:02) What a QDRO is, how it works, and why it is essential when retirement accounts and pensions are involved (7:38) How after tax value changes the true worth of assets in a divorce settlement (17:43) The most common financial mistakes people make during divorce and what Jamie wishes everyone knew before signing an agreement (31:28) Learn more about Jamie Lima, CDFA®: After watching her parents go through a divorce at a young age, and experiencing a tremendously expensive and emotionally draining divorce herself in 2017, she launched Allegiant Divorce Solutions as a sister company to her traditional financial planning firm. She recognizes the challenges people face as they decide how to handle their finances during divorce. Her parents struggled, and it was challenging for her as well. Looking back, there were mistakes she made during her own divorce that could have been avoided had she had the support of a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst ®. At present, armed with this ever growing knowledge and almost 20 years of financial planning experience, she is dedicated to helping her clients navigate the complex aspects of divorce and gain a fair settlement, with much less stress. All rights reserved. SUMMARY:Retirement anxiety is real for most people. Prepare for it with a winning business plan. Passive saving won't secure a financial future; take charge and actively invest instead of saving without a winning business plan.Knowing is not enough. Invest intelligently—so why aren't many doing so? Why most people around the world are concerned, and here's how we can address it. We will discuss the bonus topic, “What Are The Crucial Steps to Jumpstart our Positive Cash Flow?,” at the end of today's discussion. All investors, whether new or experienced, need guidance, financial education and planning. Most people understand the importance of investing, just as they know they should maintain a healthy diet and exercise. Yet, millions remain inactive investors. At best those who invest without a winning business plan and facts are gamblers not investors. We define investing here at masterinvestor as having a winning business plan with a lucrative exit strategy. When we observe those who say that they are investing many lack what investing is, which is a winning business plan but not limited to that only. A business is a system of systems that requires key elements in place in order to succeed at building wealth. Active investors (aka Inside Investors) rely on our investments for passive income instead of traditional jobs which provides earned income. There is a big difference in the types of income that exist. There are three main types of income and they have different tax rules. The following are the types of income that anyone can build:1- Earned Income, 2- Capital Gains Income, 3- Passive Income. Now the highest taxed income of the three is earned income. Giving the employees and self-employed people no room to become wealthy. As their hard earned money is taxed at the highest bracket. Before they get to touch their earned income, majority of it is gone via taxes, social security and other mandatory fees. For instance, masterinvestor earns a monthly positive cash flow from our investments, allowing the founder and investors to forgo employment and focus on creating solutions for the world. Moreover, by doing so we are also creating jobs for the economy and for those who decide to only build earned income. The government incentives us for creating jobs and investing in sectors that they are wanting to grow in the economy. Every investor, whether new or experienced, needs direction, mentors, and motivation. Brian Skrobonja closes out the year with a milestone episode that marks the final episode of 2025 and the conclusion of this version of the show. He shares the gratitude he feels for the listeners who have supported the mission, the team whose work brought each idea to life, and the recognition the podcast received from Forbes as one of the top shows by financial advisors. Tune in to hear Brian reflect on why he started this podcast, how the mission has been accomplished, and why this moment isn't an ending but the beginning of a bigger vision that will unfold in 2026. He also shares the three core truths that can reshape your financial future if you're ready to take them to heart and take action. Brian reveals that today's episode is a meaningful milestone. It closes out the year and marks the end of this version of the show. He takes a moment to thank the listeners, the production team, and Forbes for recognizing the podcast among the top in the industry. He reflects on why he started the podcast in the first place: To cut through the constant misinformation about money and share the strategies his team uses to help people achieve real financial results. Looking back, he believes that mission has been accomplished.  Brian makes it clear that this is not an ending but a transition into something bigger. He shares that a complete rebrand and new platform will be announced in 2026, designed to serve listeners at a much higher level. Before signing off, he leaves the audience with three core truths that can transform their financial future. Truth #1: Not all financial advisors are the same. Some sell products, while others build full plans that protect your assets and future. Learn how to spot the difference so your plan always comes first. Truth #2: Chasing interest rates won't make you wealthy. True financial success is about outcomes, not chasing quick wins. When your plan dictates the strategy, your money finally works for your life. Truth #3: Stop procrastinating. According to Brian, waiting for the perfect moment or strategy only delays your security and peace of mind. Taking action now, even imperfectly, moves you toward real results and freedom. Brian explains how a real financial plan protects more than your investments. It covers taxes, estate planning, long-term care, Social Security timing, and income planning. With a holistic plan, you stop guessing and start living with security and clarity. Learn why a plan comes before products. Products like stocks or insurance aren't your strategy, they are tools your plan uses to achieve your goals. When you focus on planning first, every financial move has purpose and impact. Brian reveals how to choose the right financial advisor. Look for someone who brings tax, legal, and comprehensive planning expertise to the table. The right advisor helps you use your money to build the life you want. For Brian, the secret to building wealth is taking imperfect action. Waiting for the perfect strategy or market conditions rarely works. Brian shows how moving forward, even with small steps, creates momentum and confidence.  Brian explains why financial clarity beats short-term gains. Rates of return and interest are important, but they don't define success. Outcomes, security, and a plan that fits your life always win in the long term. Even as this podcast chapter closes, bigger opportunities and tools are coming to serve you at a higher level.     Mentioned in this episode: BrianSkrobonja.com SkrobonjaFinancial.com SkrobonjaWealth.com BUILDbanking.com Common Sense Financial Podcast on YouTube  Common Sense Financial Podcast on Spotify     Alternative investments may be subject to less regulation than other types of pooled investment vehicles. Why It’s Not Okay for Candace Owens to ‘Just Ask Questions On this episode of Cross Politics, Knox, Toby, and Gabe welcome viewers into the studio to talk about the issue of Candace Owens' recent conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk's assassination and why her approach to journalism violates biblical principles of justice and truth-telling. ABOUT CROSSPOLITIC CrossPolitic exists to put Jesus over Politics and reclaim the public square through bold, joyful, biblically grounded media. We confront the chaos discipling America and build the next generation of Christian media infrastructure. Our mission is simple: all of Christ for all of media for all of America. Mainstream media is collapsing. Eighty-seven percent of journalists align with progressive ideology, and even many conservative outlets chase profit instead of principle. But Christians have a massive opportunity as billions of hours of digital content shape the world every day. CrossPolitic stands in that gap—producing courageous, entertaining, truth-filled media for households and leaders across the nation. Are you prepared for the major life catalysts that may influence your retirement planning and long-term lifestyle? In this episode of the Retire Sooner Podcast, Wes Moss and Producer Mallory highlight key moments that can shape financial decisions, expectations, and overall well-being. • Explore how the “Retire Sooner Richter Scale” frames the relative influence of major life catalysts on retirement planning. • Recognize how family transitions—college milestones, caring for aging parents, or losing a spouse—may shift emotional, logistical, and financial considerations. • Consider how relationship changes, such as marriage, remarriage, or divorce, may alter household finances and planning priorities. • Evaluate how moving, home renovations, or major projects can temporarily affect budgets and long-term plans. • Embrace core pursuits, travel decisions, and lifelong learning as accessible ways to support purpose and engagement in retirement. • Assess job changes, early retirement offers, or selling a business as catalysts for reassessing benefits, income, and next-phase goals. • Acknowledge that inheritance may help, but generally works best as a supplemental planning element. • Track milestone ages—59½, 62, 65, 67, 70, 73—that align with key retirement, Social Security, and healthcare rules. • Explore “unretirement,” including part-time work or renewed professional involvement. • Monitor market conditions and potential tax law changes that may influence planning assumptions. • Prioritize reducing debt, including mortgages, to support long-term flexibility. • Anticipate long-term care needs and evaluate available coverage options. • Update estate documents—wills, trusts, and powers of attorney—as circumstances evolve. If you want a concise, research-informed overview of catalysts that may influence retirement readiness, this episode delivers meaningful context. Listen and subscribe to the Retire Sooner Podcast, and share it with someone who may appreciate clear, objective discussions around long-term financial planning. Learn more about your ad choices.
