In this episode, Mardi Winder talks with Jamie Lima, a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Certified Financial Planner, and mediator, to discuss the complexities of money during divorce and how financial concerns can influence decisions both before and during the process. Jamie brings a personal and professional perspective, sharing his own story of navigating divorce and how those early experiences shaped his career and approach to financial planning.Throughout their conversation, they explore why having a diverse team of professionals, including financial planners, divorce strategists, attorneys, and, at times, forensic accountants, is essential to achieving clarity and support during such a challenging transition. Jamie notes the common pitfalls of expecting attorneys to cover every aspect and encourages building what he calls "Team You," where specialists collaborate for the best outcome. The discussion highlights the value of understanding one's financial options, preparing relevant documents, and using supportive resources wisely, especially as emotions can interfere with decision-making.They also touch upon the evolution of collaborative divorce formats and how emerging technology, like AI-assisted financial analysis, is making asset tracing more accessible and affordable. Jamie generously shares details about free and practical resources, including budgeting worksheets and online tools, aimed at empowering listeners with knowledge as they plan or move through divorce. This episode offers not only practical steps but also reassurance for anyone feeling overwhelmed, reminding listeners that thoughtful preparation, education, and the right support system can help ease the process and set the foundation for a brighter financial future after divorce.About the Guest:Jamie Lima:I grew up in a family that always seemed to have money challenges, especially after my parents divorced when I was very young. They tried incredibly hard, but I knew, even as a small child that it was rough on them. That led me to a career in finance as I wanted to learn and understand how to better support myself and my future family. After going through an incredibly difficult divorce myself, I decided to become a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® and founded Allegiant Divorce Solutions to help others better prepare for, navigate, and recover financially from divorce.I promised myself early on that I would do whatever was required to ensure that my clients never felt the same struggles related to money that I did growing up, and through my divorce. After over 20 years of experience, I really love helping clients make important financial decisions and making the puzzle pieces ‘fit' for them. But I also noticed a need in the Divorce space. The software we are using is antiquated, and I knew there had to be an easier way. That led me to build SecureSplit. SecureSplit Pro helps divorce professionals organize their cases in an easy-to-use and modern layout. I also created quick calculators to help consumers that are unable to work with professionals, SecureSplit Essentials.Outside of work my wife, Dawn, and I spend a lot of time in our Jeep off-roading, traveling the country in our RV, and trying to keep up with our 5 (yes, 5!) kids. For Jamie's gift: https://allegiantds.com/resourcesTo connect with Jamie: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamielima/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allegiantdivorce/Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@allegiantdivorceFacebook: www.facebook.com/groups/preparingfinanciallyfordivorce/About the HostMardi Winder is an ICF and BCC Executive and Leadership Coach, Certified Divorce Transition Coach, Certified Divorce Specialist (CDS®) and a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator in Texas. In this episode, LaKiesha Tomlin, a former aerospace defense engineering leader, shares how she transformed her personal journey into investing into a mission to help others understand and participate in the stock market. Her interest was sparked during the 2008 financial crisis, and over several years she educated herself, overcame fear, and began investing with small, intentional steps. What started as a desire to better manage her own finances grew into a framework she now teaches—one rooted in consistency, practical learning, and building confidence through understanding rather than chasing quick results. The conversation explores the emotional and psychological barriers many professionals—especially women—face when approaching investing, from fear of losing money to believing they must "know everything" before starting. LaKiesha explains how simplifying complex concepts, committing just 30–60 minutes a day to learning, and focusing on clarity over fast profits can create lasting financial empowerment. She also emphasizes her philosophy of helping people become independent decision-makers, not lifelong followers, and reframing market shifts as opportunities to think strategically and build long-term confidence. Gov. Josh Shapiro on Tuesday unveiled a 53-billion-dollar state budget for the fiscal year that begins July first, the final budget proposal of Shapiro's term. Under the governor's plan, the spending gap would be made up by tapping into the state's rainy-day fund. Increasing public school funding is the big ticket item in the governor’s budget. But it’s not the only school policy he has in mind. Republicans in the state Senate say that Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget proposal would threaten Pennsylvania’s financial future if enacted. Republican Congressman Lloyd Smucker of Lancaster and York counties is suing Lancaster’s main newspaper. A Dauphin County judge dismissed Harrisburg mayor Wanda Williams' lawsuit over this year's budget, ruling that City Council was acting within its power when it defunded four positions within the mayor's administration. Pennsylvania State Police announce they're upgrading their vehicles with some of the latest technology. Those improvements include distinctive V-shaped light bars that provide full 360-degree illumination during traffic stops - and turn into arrow boards for traffic control - or floodlights for dark, hazardous conditions. Pennsylvania is expanding and improving its all-terrain vehicle trails and facilities across the state. The state's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announces it's awarding $1.4 million in grants for ATV projects in five counties in western PA and the Pennsylvania Wilds region. One of our region's high school athletic conferences has a new name. Why is it so hard to make decisions today that benefit you years from now? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most powerful — and underused — tools for long-term financial change: Future Financial You. You'll learn why most people struggle to delay gratification, why saving and long-term planning feel unnatural to the brain, and how the lack of connection to your future self keeps you stuck in short-term patterns — even when you know better. We'll explore the neuroscience behind future-self connection, why vague visions don't pull you forward, and how to stop trying to buy transformation through aspirational spending. Instead, you'll learn how to build your future from the inside out — through identity, emotional capacity, habits, time, and relationships. This episode walks you through a powerful framework and reflective exercise that helps you turn your future self into a real source of accountability — not through discipline or restriction, but through self-respect and care.

Most baseball families think "insurance" only becomes relevant after a player signs a pro contract — but the truth is, disability insurance is already shaping decisions in high school recruiting, NIL negotiations, and college roster building. In this episode of The Most Valuable Agent, MLB agent Matt Hannaford sits down with David Brookbank, co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), one of the most trusted independent voices in the disability insurance space for elite athletes. David has spent 30+ years inside disability policy structure, claims, and underwriting — and he's also deeply plugged into sports law and the business side of college athletics through Arizona State's sports law ecosystem. Together, they break down what disability insurance actually is (and what it isn't), why "loss of value" is the most misunderstood term in amateur baseball, and how families can avoid the biggest mistake: listening only to the person selling the policy. You'll learn the real layers of coverage (Permanent Total Disability, Critical Injury, Temporary Total Disability), how policy language can completely change whether a claim gets paid, why illness claims can be bigger than injury claims, and how universities are now using disability policies as a tool to attract and retain draft-level talent. If you're a parent, player, or coach trying to understand what happens if he gets hurt — and how to protect a future before the draft/NIL money shows up — this episode gives you the roadmap. Subscribe for weekly insight on player development, recruiting, and the business of baseball — with the truth families rarely hear early enough. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • What disability insurance is in sports — and why it exists • The 3 core layers of coverage: PTD vs Critical Injury vs Temporary Total Disability • Why most policies cover athletes 24/7, not just during games • The biggest misconception: why writers and families wrongly call everything "loss of value" • How Tommy John/UCL coverage varies dramatically based on policy wording • Why "required within 30 days" vs "performed within 30 days" can decide a claim • Hidden fine print that can void a payout (ex: % of season missed requirements) • The real claim rates David sees across hundreds of athletes each year • How universities handle insurance options (and why they can't "direct" one policy) • Why disability insurance is becoming part of NIL and revenue-share negotiations • How high school draft prospects use disability coverage as a college decision lever • What premiums can look like for pitchers — and why pitchers are the most expensive to insure • Why policy honesty matters: applications, medical records, and avoiding claim denial ABOUT DAVID David Brookbank is the co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), a specialty consulting firm that analyzes and advises on disability insurance policies for elite athletes across high school, college, and professional sports. David began his career in disability insurance over three decades ago and now focuses on independent policy review, education, underwriting guidance, and claims navigation — without selling the policies himself. He holds a master's in legal studies with a concentration in sports law and contract law and is deeply connected to the sports business ecosystem through Arizona State. ABOUT MATT HANNAFORD Matt Hannaford is a 25-year MLB agent and founder of Aligned Sports. If you're going through divorce and feeling overwhelmed by the financial decisions in front of you, you are not imagining it. There is far more to divorce financial planning than most people are ever told. Divorce creates financial challenges that most traditional financial advisors simply are not trained to handle, which is why I invited Jamie Lima, a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and the founder of Allegiant Divorce Solutions, to the show to help demystify the financial realities of divorce. Jamie explains why dividing assets during divorce is rarely as straightforward as it seems, especially once taxes, retirement accounts, and long-term consequences are factored in. We talk about some of the most common and costly blind spots women face, including critical documents like QDROs, along with who actually carries the tax burden when assets are divided.  Throughout the conversation, we come back to one essential truth. You should not be navigating this alone. Divorce requires a team, and having the right financial expertise can protect your future long after the paperwork is signed. What you'll hear about in this episode: What a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst does and why divorce financial planning is different from traditional financial planning (2:02) What a QDRO is, how it works, and why it is essential when retirement accounts and pensions are involved (7:38) How after tax value changes the true worth of assets in a divorce settlement (17:43) The most common financial mistakes people make during divorce and what Jamie wishes everyone knew before signing an agreement (31:28) Learn more about Jamie Lima, CDFA®: After watching her parents go through a divorce at a young age, and experiencing a tremendously expensive and emotionally draining divorce herself in 2017, she launched Allegiant Divorce Solutions as a sister company to her traditional financial planning firm. She recognizes the challenges people face as they decide how to handle their finances during divorce. Her parents struggled, and it was challenging for her as well. Looking back, there were mistakes she made during her own divorce that could have been avoided had she had the support of a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst ®. At present, armed with this ever growing knowledge and almost 20 years of financial planning experience, she is dedicated to helping her clients navigate the complex aspects of divorce and gain a fair settlement, with much less stress. Why It’s Not Okay for Candace Owens to ‘Just Ask Questions On this episode of Cross Politics, Knox, Toby, and Gabe welcome viewers into the studio to talk about the issue of Candace Owens' recent conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk's assassination and why her approach to journalism violates biblical principles of justice and truth-telling. ABOUT CROSSPOLITIC CrossPolitic exists to put Jesus over Politics and reclaim the public square through bold, joyful, biblically grounded media. We confront the chaos discipling America and build the next generation of Christian media infrastructure. Our mission is simple: all of Christ for all of media for all of America. Mainstream media is collapsing. Eighty-seven percent of journalists align with progressive ideology, and even many conservative outlets chase profit instead of principle. But Christians have a massive opportunity as billions of hours of digital content shape the world every day. CrossPolitic stands in that gap—producing courageous, entertaining, truth-filled media for households and leaders across the nation.
