Judging with other people can be a way to bond with one another - this can include put-downs, but it is most hurtful when people question your character, intelligence, beliefs and personal preferences. Positive judgement requires maturity, emotional intelligence and self-control. Listen in to learn more about ways to stop judging.

Social Media: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Play Episode Listen Later May 31, 2018 29:15

Social Media: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Join us for another episode of real conversation around the use of technology, in particular, social media. Social media/media has a lot of the same offerings that have existed in the past, we are just using a different platform to meet our needs. This includes online shopping, playing games electronically, listening to music, reading digital books, and reviewing research - something that use to be done in a library. Technology and social media also can elicit an additive response and trigger addictive-like behaviors. FOMO (feeling of missing out) is a real feeling that often times can leave the viewer feeling socially isolated and sometimes causing a fear of rejection. FOMO also pulls us away from embracing the moments we are currently having with other people, and sometimes those people are actually more important to you than what you are viewing. Multitasking isn’t physically possible and the belief that it is - is robbing us of emotionally fulfilling connections.

Unfortunately, when you turn on media of any sort, there is a false sense of security that if we implement reactive measures/procedures, we will decrease the chance of a school shooting. This episode will discuss 3 key concepts to preventative measures when it comes to exploring ways to decrease school shootings. We reviewed the notion of a sense of belonging - including role modeling with our own children and what schools can do around Social Emotional conversations with students. Our gaming industry continues to be a multibillion-dollar industry, we looked at the complexity of ratings on games, especially when it comes to first-person shooter games. In addition, we are huge advocates for more mental health supports especially in the rural areas.    Find out more at https://simplesoulat.wixsite.com/loveyoursimplesoul Resources Tasha and Amy referenced: Why we need Social and Emotional Learning in Schools ESRB enforcement New Gaming Boom
