A fancast where a Star Wars Boy and Star Trek Girl and an old school Sci-Fi Nut talk about all things in the new Star Trek Series: Strange New Worlds!
Captain Bubbles (A.K.A. Shannon) was in it for Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis while her crew of Starfleet Section 35 Chief Commander Klinger (Jake) and Agent SP (A.K.A. SP) discuss and review the 2025 Paramount+ streaming movie "Star Trek: Section 31." The crew run down how big of a departure the movie was from traditional Star Trek while retaining amazing nods to existing Trek storylines, the delicious history of Rachel Garrett and the actor that portrayed her Kacey Rohl, the alien sex/mecha boom-boom/lost Deltan, how the fight scenes came off, if Philippa Georgiou was redeemable or not, the sad state of Trek tech, and possible Section 31 futures. Thank you for listening to our coverage of Section 31. Strange New Worlds Fancast will return later in 2025 to cover Strange New Worlds season 3. In this, the last episode of Strange New Worlds Season 2 is a bit bittersweet. It's awesome and we love it but we most likely aren't gonna get another for a while. Join us as we gather to enjoy the cliffhanger that is 'Hegemony' and talk about who is carrying Gorn spawn.
We've got Klingon-Boy-Bands and Wubba-Lubbas all over this cast. You just never know what is going to come your way with Strange New Worlds, and today, it was a musical. We know what you're thinking but honestly, it does get better. However, just know we have one episode left after t his and we are stoked for it.
Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is completely crushing it with the last few episodes and that trend continues with episode eight. PTSD, super solider doctors, and a self-defense/murder that no cameras on the ship caught at all due to HIPAA regulations. Yeah, you know what happened there.
We are geeking out here! Season 2 Episode 7 of Strange New Worlds 'Those Old Scientists' is one of the best Star Trek episodes ever put out and even Shanon who doesn't like animated anything was won over by Boimler and Mariner! It's that good.
Jake and Sean review 'Lost in Translation' and can't help but talk about the table scene where we see history being made. There is also a fair amount of prune juice equivalency in this episode - trust us, its a thing.
We're back and completely geeking out about the Spock, T'pring, Chapel love triangle and really think T'pring is the keeper here even though Sean loves Chapel with all his heart.
It's a fine day for a new episode of Strange New Worlds! Its actually pretty fitting that I almost forgot today was Star Trek watching day and Shannon couldn't remember the name of the episode as in this one everybody forgot everything anyway!
This was the episode Sean was waiting for! It had Time Travel, La'an, yoga pants, fights, explosions, and muscle cars. Shannon however was bored out of her mind. Go figure. As always it takes all kinds and we are here for it!
It was a courtroom drama this time on Strange New Worlds! Shannon was here for it because Una, Jake loved to see Erica be loyal and Spock "Outbursting" and Sean couldn't be bothered unless things were blowing up.
Welcome back to Strange New Worlds, we are so excited about season two and have just watched the first episode! It's a great day to be a Star Trek fan and away we go with drunk Vulcans, fighting doctors, and a stolen ship. Join us!
Captain Bubbles (A.K.A. Shannon) takes the Laris loss but the PB&J gain while her crew of Starfleet Section 35 Chief Commander Klinger (Jake) and Guest Star Chief Miles O'Brien (A.K.A. SP or StarPi from Voices Of Defiance and Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) discuss and review the Picard season 3 finale episode "The Last Generation." The crew run down all the wonderful Trek fan service and nostalgia, their favorite finale moments, The Next Generation's cast characters forward movement, what's left on the table for a future series like Star Trek Legacy, the season's writing, remaining plot holes, missed character opportunities, and their last fond farewell to the cast that's been in their hearts since 1987. Thank you so much for listening to our coverage of Picard Season 3. Strange New Worlds Fancast will return in June 2023 to cover Strange New Worlds season 2. Sean will return to reclaim his seat on the crew from SP then. SP thanks all of you for your kindness as he stepped in for Sean during Shannon's recovery. Captain Bubbles (A.K.A. Shannon) is finally reunited with her collective and all but forgets about her fascination with Laris while the crew of Starfleet Section 35 Chief Commander Klinger (Jake) and Guest Star Mr. Mot (A.K.A. SP or StarPi from Voices Of Defiance and Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) discuss and review the Picard season 3 ninth and penultimate episode "Vox." The crew discuss the episode's writing, big Borg reveal, the counseling Jack Crusher will need, the carpet onboard the Enterprise, Shaw's sacrifice, and the painfully slow moving Starfleet attack on Spacedock. The trio have a lot of fun along the way and look forward to their opportunities to see the finale on IMAX (if it's available to them). Join the crew and let them know what you think. When news of the Romulan supernova reached Starfleet, Picard was summoned to Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco. In a meeting with Commander-in-Chief Victor Bordson and Captain Kirsten Clancy (Ann Magnuson), Picard accepted a long-overdue promotion to Admiral in order to lead the Romulan rescue mission. But this meant Picard had to immediately relinquish command of his beloved Enterprise so, naturally, he suggested Worf, his current First Officer to become the new Captain. But Clancy balked at Worf getting the big chair and for good reason: the Klingon has a permanent black mark on his record. In the DS9 season 6 episode "Change of Heart", Worf allowed a Starfleet Intelligence operative to during a secret mission, choosing, instead, to rescue his injured wife Dax on the planet Soukara. Afterward, Captain Sisko told Worf that "[Starfleet will] probably never give you a command of your own after this." Captain Clancy was correct to raise this disciplinary issue with Worf taking command of the Enterprise, which is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets. Picard argued for his First Officer's spotless record since that incident, which occurred almost a decade before this meeting. As to the question of Worf's judgment, Picard noted that the memory of that mistake makes Worf even more careful about his decision-making. Picard was also offended at the idea that he would select Worf to be his First Officer if he didn't think the Klingon was capable of being a worthy Captain someday. Picard won the argument when he pointed out that a century prior, during the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the Klingons came to the Federation for help and they eventually became such staunch allies that a Klingon rose to the position of commanding the Federation flagship. Jean-Luc's point was that the Romulans could see the symbolism, which would help them understand what was possible in a long-term peace with the Federation. Clancy finally relented and she admitted that "The optics were good". With that, Admiral Picard officially relinquished command of the Enterprise to the newly-promoted Captain Worf. via: https://screenrant.com/star-trek-picard-worf-enterprise-captain-starfleet-how/ Star Trek: Why Didn't Tasha Yar Return for Picard? https://movieweb.com/why-didnt-tasha-yar-return-for-picard/

He won in every single situation and came out smelling like the good guy. Wheee was the loss? The sacrifice? https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568329487648948225 Tom Cruise's recklessness in destroying the hypersonic Darkstar experimental plane in Top Gun Maverick was at least dereliction of duty and most likely Improper Hazarding of Aircraft. His ego and vanity did not match the reasoning. The personnel would have just been transferred https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331101856301059 The scene in Tom Gun Maverick between Tom Cruise and Ed Harris was brilliant calling back to Ed's John Glenn role in The Right Stuff. Ed tells Tom he should be a 2 star Admiral or a Senator. Glenn became an Ohio Senator and Ed was wearing 2 stars in the scene. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331823372967937 The lack of F-35's at Top Gun in Top Gun Maverick is … worrisome. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333013087571969 I enjoyed Jon Hamm as Admiral “Cyclone” Simpson and Charles Parnell as Adm “Warlock” Bates in Top Gun Maverick but it would have been nice seeing Slider, Merlin or Wolfman from the 86 movie. Heck a nod to Ironside/Jester or Skerritt/Viper would have been nice too. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333895728259079 The strike package selection for the mission in Top Gun was horrifying. The United States military possesses capabilities better suited for the job with less risk. Also the lack of consideration for human casualties at the facility is extremely unrealistic. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568334446033502210 The addition of Jennifer Connelly as Penny in Top Gun Maverick was a welcome sight and a fantastic tie to the 86 film. I loved the world building there. Although her car's similarity to Charlie's was not needed at all. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335007097167874 The lack of a bar serenade in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Also the lack of flirting between Rooster and anyone was a missed opportunity for future chapters in the story. I believe this was a stupid decision by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335674020880387 Meg Ryan's backstory in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Again, I believe this was done by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568336210577301508 I'm struggling to understand how Hangman graduated top of his Top Gun class in Too Gun Maverick. His tactics and non team playing mindset would have gotten him low marks by the instructors. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568337040160202753 Why the enemy's 5th Generation fighters couldn't engage the F-18 strike package in Top Gun Maverick with Beyond Visual Range weapons is beyond me. That's one of the keys for 5th Generation fighters. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338030217289729 Technically Rooster's helicopter shoot down in Top Gun Maverick is an air to air kill which puts him on par with Hangman. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338249260613639 Let's not even start about Tom Cruise flying the F-14 in Top Gun Maverick. Just. No. But it was a deep good part of the film. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338906180976642 Seeing Val Kilmer in Top Gun Maverick made up for a lot of what's wrong in the film. It was well done with the exception of having the Pacific Fleet Commander not able to talk. He would be taken off of active duty. And we all know Iceman is the better pilot anyway. Sorry Tom. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339340677316608 Having Penny not in the bar when Tom Cruise returned from the mission in Top Gun Maverick was unnecessary. I'm not really sure what the point to that was. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339774372720640 For Top Gun III how about we see Rooster and Phoenix instruct Amelia at Top Gun? Oh. And no Tom Cruise please.

Jake, Sean, and Bubbles are excited and a shade sad to review the last episode (episode 10: A Quality of Mercy) of season 1 of StarTrek: Strange New Worlds! It was a fantastic episode and an unbelievable season. We talk about the episode and our thoughts on what might be on the way for season two - join us!
Episode 9 'All Those who Wander' is a powerhouse of content. We couldn't believe how much Sci-Fi heritage they managed to cram into the span of one episode! We gather to talk about the consequences of the events down on the planet and celebrate the first 'spiritual redshirts' of the series.
For episode eight of Strange New Worlds 'The Elysian Kingdom' we are taken for a ride that's got everything from swordplay and wizards to heavy-cut, hoisted, cleavage. As usual, we are happy to go where pike and the crew lead us!
Unfortunately, Shannon couldn't be on the cast this week but season 1 Episode 7 "Serene Squall" is going to hold the honor thus far of having Sean's favorite villain Capt. Angel. Jake and Sean then get into a discussion about shooting accuracy in close-quarters combat and marvel at Chapel's body count with nothing but a hypospray. Join us!
We take on episode six this week and this is a tough one. Shanon is a little down on this particular take on the series and Sean thinks this is what good sci-fi does. As they argue about it a show is created. Join us this week for some great sci-fi talk that works its way into voices and posters.
Episode five of the season was some of the best Trek we've seen no matter the series or season. In short, it was just about perfection. An episode with 4 storylines, bestie shooting bestie, punch-out, body-swapping action - plus the beautiful pacing throughout we cannot wait to talk about it with you guys. Join us for some grade A+ Trek.
This week the crew talks about the s1e4 Memento Mori. This is the episode we were waiting for. The new Trek series finally took the gloves off and came out swinging and we are here for it. Everything from fingernail polish on a dying commander to how the Gorn remind Sean of Inspector Gadget. Shannon gets stuck imagining T'pring as Catwoman then Jake breaks down how Q is an awesome misunderstood big brother. All in all, it's a well-rounded show.
In this our third episode: Sean finally gets some intro music going, then proceeds to blow it by not being able to pronounce Illyria. Shannon comes up with a new nickname for number one and Jake sees visions of Khan in the future. Join us for episode 3 of the Strange New Worlds Fancast!
This week on the show we cover the Season 1 Episode 2: Children of the Comet! Also, Shannon finds her Tricorder, we talk arc vs. single episode preference, and a whole bunch more!
Welcome to the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Fancast. We can't wait to talk about this series and geekout about the upcoming awesome that we think SNW has in store for us. Join your hosts Jake, Sean, and Shannon as they discuss their favorite theories, scenes, and characters from the show!
