In a meeting with Commander-in-Chief Victor Bordson and Captain Kirsten Clancy (Ann Magnuson), Picard accepted a long-overdue promotion to Admiral in order to lead the Romulan rescue mission. But this meant Picard had to immediately relinquish command of his beloved Enterprise so, naturally, he suggested Worf, his current First Officer to become the new Captain. But Clancy balked at Worf getting the big chair and for good reason: the Klingon has a permanent black mark on his record. In the DS9 season 6 episode "Change of Heart", Worf allowed a Starfleet Intelligence operative to during a secret mission, choosing, instead, to rescue his injured wife Dax on the planet Soukara. Afterward, Captain Sisko told Worf that "[Starfleet will] probably never give you a command of your own after this." Captain Clancy was correct to raise this disciplinary issue with Worf taking command of the Enterprise, which is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets. Picard argued for his First Officer's spotless record since that incident, which occurred almost a decade before this meeting. As to the question of Worf's judgment, Picard noted that the memory of that mistake makes Worf even more careful about his decision-making. Picard was also offended at the idea that he would select Worf to be his First Officer if he didn't think the Klingon was capable of being a worthy Captain someday. Picard won the argument when he pointed out that a century prior, during the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the Klingons came to the Federation for help and they eventually became such staunch allies that a Klingon rose to the position of commanding the Federation flagship. Jean-Luc's point was that the Romulans could see the symbolism, which would help them understand what was possible in a long-term peace with the Federation. Clancy finally relented and she admitted that "The optics were good". With that, Admiral Picard officially relinquished command of the Enterprise to the newly-promoted Captain Worf. via: https://screenrant.com/star-trek-picard-worf-enterprise-captain-starfleet-how/  Star Trek: Why Didn't Tasha Yar Return for Picard? https://movieweb.com/why-didnt-tasha-yar-return-for-picard/

The sacrifice? https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568329487648948225 Tom Cruise's recklessness in destroying the hypersonic Darkstar experimental plane in Top Gun Maverick was at least dereliction of duty and most likely Improper Hazarding of Aircraft. His ego and vanity did not match the reasoning. The personnel would have just been transferred https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331101856301059 The scene in Tom Gun Maverick between Tom Cruise and Ed Harris was brilliant calling back to Ed's John Glenn role in The Right Stuff. Ed tells Tom he should be a 2 star Admiral or a Senator. Glenn became an Ohio Senator and Ed was wearing 2 stars in the scene. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331823372967937 The lack of F-35's at Top Gun in Top Gun Maverick is … worrisome.  https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333013087571969 I enjoyed Jon Hamm as Admiral “Cyclone” Simpson and Charles Parnell as Adm “Warlock” Bates in Top Gun Maverick but it would have been nice seeing Slider, Merlin or Wolfman from the 86 movie. Heck a nod to Ironside/Jester or Skerritt/Viper would have been nice too. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333895728259079 The strike package selection for the mission in Top Gun was horrifying. The United States military possesses capabilities better suited for the job with less risk. Also the lack of consideration for human casualties at the facility is extremely unrealistic. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568334446033502210 The addition of Jennifer Connelly as Penny in Top Gun Maverick was a welcome sight and a fantastic tie to the 86 film. I loved the world building there. Although her car's similarity to Charlie's was not needed at all. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335007097167874 The lack of a bar serenade in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Also the lack of flirting between Rooster and anyone was a missed opportunity for future chapters in the story. I believe this was a stupid decision by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335674020880387 Meg Ryan's backstory in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Again, I believe this was done by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568336210577301508 I'm struggling to understand how Hangman graduated top of his Top Gun class in Too Gun Maverick. His tactics and non team playing mindset would have gotten him low marks by the instructors. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568337040160202753 Why the enemy's 5th Generation fighters couldn't engage the F-18 strike package in Top Gun Maverick with Beyond Visual Range weapons is beyond me. That's one of the keys for 5th Generation fighters. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338030217289729 Technically Rooster's helicopter shoot down in Top Gun Maverick is an air to air kill which puts him on par with Hangman. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338249260613639 Let's not even start about Tom Cruise flying the F-14 in Top Gun Maverick. Just. No. But it was a deep good part of the film. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338906180976642 Seeing Val Kilmer in Top Gun Maverick made up for a lot of what's wrong in the film. It was well done with the exception of having the Pacific Fleet Commander not able to talk. He would be taken off of active duty. And we all know Iceman is the better pilot anyway. Sorry Tom. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339340677316608 Having Penny not in the bar when Tom Cruise returned from the mission in Top Gun Maverick was unnecessary. I'm not really sure what the point to that was. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339774372720640 For Top Gun III how about we see Rooster and Phoenix instruct Amelia at Top Gun? Oh. And no Tom Cruise please.

So, how's things in the 25th century? Well, Dr. Beverly Crusher is vaporizing baddies trying to board her beleaguered ship and sending coded messages to Picard -- whom she has not spoken with in 20 years. Raffi is working undercover to find stolen weapons on M'talas IV. Seven of Nine is working as first officer (under a pig-head of a captain) on the USS Titan.   As for Jean-Luc? He is moving house to join his girlfriend(?)-bodyguard(?)-housekeeper(?) Laris on her diplomatic posting in the Chaltok system. And, you know, letting go of the past.   And *that* is when he gets the message from Beverly -- and, as is typical, all hell(bird) breaks loose.    Join us and go boldly with our Patreon crew at http://patreon.com/setphasers

In the 25th century, Dr. Beverly Crusher and her son Jack are attacked aboard the SS Eleos. Beverly is injured and sends an emergency message to her former Starfleet captain, the retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. Picard and his love Laris are planning a trip to Chaltok IV when he receives the message and she encourages him to go. Beverly told Picard not to involve Starfleet so he goes to his former first officer, Captain William Riker. Riker and Picard stage a surprise inspection of the successor to Riker's former ship, the USS Titan-A, planning to convince its new captain, Liam Shaw, to go to Beverly's location without revealing their intentions. Shaw declines, but his first officer is Picard's friend Seven of Nine who ignores Shaw's orders and changes the Titan's course. On M'talas Prime, Starfleet intelligence officer Raffi Musiker searches for a stolen quantum tunneling device that her mysterious handler fears will be used in a terrorist attack; she fails to find it before it is used to destroy a Starfleet facility. Picard and Riker board the Eleos, finding Beverly and Jack as a large ship appears.Support this podcast at patreon.com/TVTalkAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This episode carries content warnings for slavery and indentured servitude, kidnapping, discussion of taxidermy, blood, injury, physical harm, death, and the discussion of sports-related injuries. Here, in Somerset House, drama of the most unlikely kind is afoot.  With the family fortune withering away, the Solstice clan plays host to a pair of powerful Pact dignitaries: the data-magnate Exenceaster March and the notorious Admiral Bel'Agos Bloom.  They aim to draw March away from his loyalties to the Columnar with an exquisite retreat prepared by the house's staff,  featuring hunting, fine dining, and other entertainment. But one after another, the unpredictable has become the occuring: A terrible accident among the hedges. The discovery of an explosive device. And next, the return of an absentee member of the household…  Can Solstice House's staff turn the situation around and save the day? Or is something—like the mysterious, dark pall that surrounds the estate—due to break? Records Recovered from the Divine, Arbitrage Factions The Bilateral Intercession: This faction, made up primarily from Stel Nideo and Kesh assets, was formerly known as the Curtain. The rebranding comes as part of a “civil coup” performed by Cynosure Whitestar-Kesh. In a move that surprised no group more than the Curtain themselves, Cynosure spent years growing in confidence and power, until that intelligence organization could be once again reduced to a tool. Still defined by their traditionalism, they wield their control on culture, religion, and history as a weapon—and the extensive spy network for which they are named when those come up short. The Pact of Free States: While the Bilateral Intercession's name change reflects a shift in leadership and posture for the Curtain, the shift from “The Pact of Necessary Venture” to “The Pact of Free States” is simply the public acceptance of what was already widely understood to be true. Led in name by Dahlia, the Glorious Princept, and in day-to-day operation by senior members of Stels Apostolos and Columnar, the Pact paint themselves as liberal reformists whose aim is to increase the degree of autonomy in each of the Stels, such that they become in reality five separate nations. This episode carries content warnings for slavery and indentured servitude, kidnapping, discussion of taxidermy, animals bred to be hunted, blood, injury, physical harm, death, and the discussion of sports-related injuries. It is often noted that the Bilateral Commission (formerly the Curtain) is mostly comprised of people from Stels Kesh and Nideo, and likewise that the Pact is largely made up of Apostolosians and Columnar. Room is made for exceptions because, in many cases, such cases are all the more important. Thus could be the case of Exanceaster March, Columnar data magnate and long time friend of the (ever diminishing) Solstice family of Kesh. Today, the troubled aristocrats bring their powerful ally to their estate for a visit, during which they hope to persuade March to leave the Pact behind.  For the Solstice family, this could be everything they need to be catapulted back into the upper crust. For their servants, it will be just one more hellish event left for them to clean up after. This week on the Road to PALISADE: Upstairs & Downstairs Records Recovered from the Divine, Arbitrage Factions The Bilateral Intercession: This faction, made up primarily from Stel Nideo and Kesh assets, was formerly known as the Curtain. We are back for another finale as we discuss Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 10 Farewell as the band complete their mission in 2024. Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 10 Podcast Synopsis Executive Producers: Michael Chabon & Kirsten Beyer & Akiva Goldsman & Alex Kurtzman Episode Written by: Akiva Goldsman and Christopher Monfette Episode Directed By: Michael Weaver With time ticking down to the launch of the Europa Mission, Tallinn interprets the Borg Queen's message to mean that a sacrifice is required to save Renee. Despite Picard's protests, Tallinn uses a holographic disguise to thwart Soong's murder attempt on René. Tallinn is successful but dies in Picard's arms while Renée departs on the Europa mission. Meanwhile Rafi, Seven and Rios take out Soong's back up plan to cancel the Europa Mission using his drones. After his failure, Soong returns home to find that Kore has deleted his digital files of his research, destroying his life's work, but he still retains a physical back-up with the file, labeled "Project Khan". Kore, following an unexpected message about what is next, meets with a Traveler formerly known as Wesley Crusher and is recruited to join the Travelers to Watch and Observe, as she picks a path for herself that will place her in danger. With the Europa Mission safe, Rafi, Rios, and Seven are believed to be stranded in the past, but Q arrives to speak to his friend Picard about the trial. Its purpose was for Picard to accept the past, his fate as the Jean Luc he is so that he can forgive the past and accept the love that is in his life. Q then uses the last of his power to send Picard, Seven, and Raffi back to the Stargazer in their own timeline, where Elnor is alive. Rios decides to stay in the past with Teresa. On the Stargazer, with the self-destruct ticking down, Picard recognizes that this Borg Queen is Agnes, whose collective has detected the disruption in space. Canceling the self-destruct, the Borg and Federation join forces and shields to stop a system-wide destructive event from the tear in space. Succeeding a new trans-warp conduit is revealed, part of a puzzle that is linked to a threat. Borgatti is unsure of what threat is on the other side, and offers to monitor the conduit in return for provisional membership of the Federation. Back on earth, after reuniting with the older Guinan and learning about Rios's life in the 21st century, Picard returns to his chateau and asks Laris for a second chance. “Monsters” Lying in the clinic and near death, Jean-Luc is lost in the recesses of his mind—and we're there with him. Also with him is a Starfleet psychiatrist, in a late 24-century uniform, who is trying to get Picard to open up. He suggests that telling a story might help, and this takes us deep into Jean-Luc's childhood and the struggles of his mother. As light is being shed on this psychological aspect of the story, Raffi and Seven learn of Jurati's assimilation and set out in search of the soon-to-be Queen in what may be a race again time for humanity's future. Meanwhile, Rios channels Kirk as he embarks on his own voyage home. But in which century will he settle down? In this episode of The Artificial Tango, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss “Monsters,” the seventh episode of Star Trek: Picard Season 2. We talk about Jean-Luc's view of his father and the realization that things were not as they seemed, James Callis as Maurice Picard, Tallinn's revelation that she is actually Romulan (and probably Laris), the birth of a new queen, and Rios's reenactment of Kirk's visit to California's past. We also speculate about the nature of the conflict between the Q and El-Aurians, and introduce our upcoming Q detection workshop. We only took a week off, but it feels like an eternity! Mike and Johnson have a lot to catch up on - they not only chat about two episodes of Discovery ("Rubicon" and "The Galactic Barrier"), but also touch on the season 2 premiere of Picard ("The Star Gazer")! When it comes to Discovery, we celebrate some of the finer moments that explore the character relationships, but also bemoan how the writers seem to pick the most inappropriate times for people to share their stories. We also wonder how much longer the show is going to drag out the 10-C reveal, while Mike is secretly hoping that someone spaces Tarka ASAP. As for Picard, we decide to just lightly touch on the premiere to prevent this episode from becoming a three hour tour. Biggest takeaway - NO to Picard and Laris please!
