When Chakotay and the cadets decide to A-Team the Protostar, they sail it towards a dangerous storm to collect the deuterium they need to go fast. But when Dal fails on ship-steering duty and starts to question his future, Chakotay encourages him to explore a different career path that sends them both overboard. Who thinks a lot about the Shinzon Incident? How is this story like an evening in Nashville? Which Prodigy character is David Carradine's favorite?

It's a meta-existential threat episode! Riker is an actor in a play written by Beverly Crusher, or is that Jonathan Frakes? Or is it the host of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction? This episode is written in such a delicious way, blending exposition and strange character behavior in a perception-annihilating frame of mind. I am shattered, like the fabric of reality poor Riker is experiencing, each time I watch it. Shades of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Waiting for Godot, and The Matrix collide in a tour-de-force performance by Jonathan Frakes. Casual Trek - A Star Trek Recap and Ranking Podcast

It's Halloween time again! Put on your sexy Star Trek costume and make sure you're fully in control of your faculties because you might not be entirely you in there! This time, our Casual Explorers decided to explore some of the many psychic and or energy beings who can just pop inside your flesh and blood as easy as a pair of boots. In Enterprise's ‘Observer Effect,' Trip and Hoshi get sick off Klingon rubbish while Travis and Reed get possessed by one very eager energy being and one who is basically #quietquitting, in Deep Space Nine's ‘The Assignment,' O'Brien's life is once more a living hell when his wife gets taken over by the Pah'Wraiths and Rom struggles to make friends at work and finally, we round it off with our main event, Dr. Beverly Crusher's adventures with sex-ghosts who live in candles ‘Sub Rosa' and Charlie and Miles find themselves watching one of Star Trek's worst-ranked episodes and ask the most important question, 'Do the Scottish know there's a Scotland in Space?' Honestly, it's much more fun to watch Troi get heavily involved in talking about Crusher's sex dreams than it ever is to have to engage in discussions on the ethics of terrorism as we did last episode. If you or anyone else is showing signs of possession, please don't come to us for help, Google it. Or ask us on Ko-Fi.Episodes Discussed: Observer Effect (12:25), The Assignment (42:12) and Sub Rosa (01:13:40)SHOW NOTES: The FULL English Breakfast, Miles forgot to do his Crypt-Keeper Schtick this Halloween, he also has opinions on the Halloween series of films, the Leprechaun films, Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, Jailhouse Rock's surprising appearance on the charts and a quick diversion into British music magazine the NME, Let Me Love You is possibly the WORST song we've had to listen to for the show (you win this round, Sheeran!) Miles admits to his dark past as a ‘Nice Guy' The Andromeda Strain, You gotta feel sorry for Klingon Plumbers, quiet-quitting Energy Beings, the Organians have gone all The Good Place with their criteria for success, how this would have ended if this were either an episode of The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits, the Spice Girls, Charlie DOES know songs that weren't featured on Rock Band thank you very much, Miles takes a break from bitching about Starbucks to bitch about the Hilton, Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 are ripping each-other, Bashir and O'Brien being sitcom scamps, Rom trying to make friends, ‘Things can Only Get Better' is a song that'll forever be thought as an anthem for Neo-Liberal malaise, Sunshine, Charlie recommends a horror film,Scream, Bryan Adams, Sting & Rod Stewart as alternate Three Musketeers, Have YOU ever told a boss about a sexual fantasy? Marina Sirtis' accent slips a lot, ‘The Innocents', Charlie's RPG of the week ‘The Between,' would Ronin have had to seduce Wesley Crusher? Despite it's female audience Star Trek always has a Male Gaze on the Cosmos, SF complaining about romance and sexuality, the SCOTTISH PLANET, the fact there's a church leads us to wonder if the Abrahamic Religions are still practised and worshipped in the often-secular Star Trek, consent in ‘Sub Rosa' comparing to consent in ‘Plato's Stepchildren,'PEDANTS CORNER: It's Busta Rhymes who kung-fu'd Michael Myers in Halloween Resurrection, The Defiant actually came first with Deep Space Nine's Season 3 in 1994 Babylon 5 introduced the White Star in Season 3 in 1995. Although, when talking about Doctor Who, I didn't think to consider that some of the more legitimate arguments against the Doctor being more sexual as a being has felt like the show's Ace-Erasure to fans who see the Doctor as an all-too-rare example of positive Asexual Representation)Casual Trek is by Charlie Etheridge-Nunn and Miles Reid-LobattoMusic by Alfred Etheridge-NunnCasual Trek is a part of the Nerd & Tie Networkhttps://ko-fi.com/casualtrekMiles' blog: http://www.mareidlobatto.wordpress.com Charlie's blog: http://www.fakedtales.com

If there was a way to hide murderous aliens by going back in time, our dear doctor tells us THIS would be the perfect crime. Except Riker the cop who totally respects the law. Anika and Liz assemble a board of inquiry and examine two episodes which turned out to be significant for Star Trek: Lower Decks - "The First Duty" and "Lower Decks". Are we gonna cry? Oh yes.  "The First Duty": Imagine if Beverly Crusher got to parent her son "Anika needs to talk about Jack Crusher" is an item in our outline We get into the really serious issue: who is dating whom in Nova Squadron? Liz's knowledge of American high school life, as gleaned from YA fiction and Archie comics Star Trek is a place where it's okay to fail   "Lower Decks": Picard's relationship with Sito The Enterprise only takes the best. So why are the bridge crew SO bad at managing staff? Except Worf, an unexpected contender for Best Boss Ever And Deanna Troi, Holder of the Brain Cell We can infer a lot about Sito's personal growth between "The First Duty" and now, and her reconnection with Bajoran culture Our semi-regular one-sided correspondence with Mike McMahon continues Critiquing Worf's contouring

Simple solutions abound this week! First up, a very lazy "Seven Samurai" clone is wrapped up with no loss of life thanks, in part, to the worst Klingons we've ever met in "Marauders". It's remarkable that a early 90s sci-fi show examined the idea of rape. The Enterprise plays host to a race of psychic spelunkers on a quest to catalog the galaxy's memories for history's sake. The father is a flirty fool, saying some inappropriate things to the Dr. Beverly Crusher after he skillfully illuminates a memory for Keiko. But it's the son who is the real monster. He attaches himself to a memory of Troi and Riker lingering after a poker game and turns it ugly. He then terrorizes more of the crew until Troi kicks him in the balls. Yes, it's finally time for Anika and Liz to talk about Star Trek: Picard... There is a strong possibility that this was … bad In Star Trek: Picard, Borg nonsense is always on the horizon Is Terry Matalas mirror!Anika? The signs are there! A lot of our problems with this season are actually with season 2, ie, the discarding of the original cast Some TNG characters were incredibly well-served in season 3. Others…  Returning female characters, fridging, and men who hold grudges for three decades The MCUification of Star Trek Anika cannot be normal about Jack Crusher Something very odd is happening with the passage of time in this series, and in the absence of any other evidence, we're going to assume it's Janeway's fault Hey, remember when Soji was the female lead? Anyone?

This is a spicy one for Dr. Beverly Crusher. Her toes are curling for a hot Star Fleet ambassador, but he's got a secret inside him. No, really inside him. Odan is a Trill - we'll learn much more about them in future Star Trek iterations - and that means he's a bug inside a host body. The bug is important, because he's the only person two warring moons trust to broker a deal. So Dr. Crusher puts the bug in someone else, her friend Riker, and all of the feelings of love and infatuation are there still, kinda. Sorta. Beverly Crusher - Vacuum from the 2022 album Waste of Waves on Freakout. Seattle punk rock band Beverly Crusher has been chipping away and threatening a full album for about three years and finally have come to the point they can share said forthcoming new album Waste of Waves, out on Freakout Records. Said Cozell Wilson (guitar and vocals) of their brand new LP, "We had so many set backs, development, and growth working on this album that all we can be is ecstatic that it finally printed in its final form on a sick record label that really believes in us and bends over backwards to support independent music. 17 year old us wouldn't believe this is real."
