Eveen the Eviscerator is skilled, discreet, professional, and here for your most pressing needs in the ancient city of Tal Abisi. Her guild is strong, her blades are sharp, and her rules are simple. Those sworn to the Matron of Assassins—resurrected from death and wiped of their memories—have only three unbreakable vows.First, the contract must be just. Second, even the most powerful assassin may only kill the contracted. The third and the simplest: once you accept a job, you must carry it out. And if you stray? There's hell to pay--literally. When the Festival of the Clockwork King turns the city upside down, Eveen's newest mission brings her face-to-face with a past she isn't supposed to remember and a vow she can't forget. In this reading, we meet the undead assassin Eveen as she readies to set out on a job. Gliding high above Tal Abisi from rooftop to rooftop, she surveys the night Festival of the Clockwork King--where careful readers will catch glimpses of a mashup of New Orleans Mardi Gras, Carriacou Shakespeare Mas, Trinidad Canboulay, allusions to Lord Blakie's "Steelband Clash"--and more. Phenderson Djéli Clark is the award-winning and Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Sturgeon nominated author of the Abeni's Song series and A Master of Djinn, and the novellas The Dead Cat Tail Assassins, Ring Shout, The Black God's Drums, and The Haunting of Tram Car 015. Ugly American Werewolf in London: Genesis - A Trick of the Tail

During The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Tour, Peter Gabriel informed his Genesis bandmates that he would be leaving once his touring duties were fulfilled. While this was disappointing to the band, some members of the press heralded it as the end of Genesis. However, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett could all contribute to the songwriting as could their wily drummer, Phil Collins. So the band forged ahead and began and exhaustive search for lead singers. To make a long story short, they figured out that Phil had the kind of voice they were looking for and decided it best if he came out from behind the drum kit to be the lead singer. While sometimes replacing the lead singer can cause a revolt of hardcare fans, it actually opened up the band for greater success in the US as they found his funny, entertaining style more fun than the serious, artsy Gabriel. Their first post-Gabriel effort was A Trick of the Tail, a gathering of 8 eclectic songs that hold them to their progressive roots but also branch out into more radio friendly material. The opener Dance on a Volcano let's Hackett and Banks bounce off each other in bombastic proggy fashion while the follow up Entangled is a more lilting back and forth. And it adds a bit of humor as does Robbery, Assault and Battery which lets Collins adjust his accent for different characters. Ripples is a lovely song that would portend more like it in the coming years and Los Endos is a great way to end the album (and a concert). Of course we talk about all the politics, go track x track and discuss how this album started them on a more pop path, one that would end up with them on top of the rock /pop world 10 years later. Maynard James Keenan (Tool) with Daniel Ash

I might overuse this word a little bit, but on this week's episode we do have a true pair of legends in conversation on the Talkhouse Podcast this week: Maynard James Keenan and Daniel Ash. Keenan is of course best known as the frontman for Tool, the dark, complex, heavy band he formed way back in 1990—but whose records come few and far between. Keenan is also the frontman for A Perfect Circle, but the reason for today's chat is yet another band, Puscifer. This one started out almost as a solo outlet for Keenan's weirdest ideas: There are comedic elements, and—fun fact—Puscifer actually sprung to life as part of a Mr. Show sketch. (Google it, it's a good story.) But the band has evolved over the years into a steady trio that features Keenan alongside Carina Round and Mat Mitchell, and that more recently has explored Keenan's most theatrical and straightforward impulses. It's funny, weird, and heavy, and the brand new Puscifer album, Normal Isn't, even nods sonically to UK post-punk bands like Killing Joke. Check out “Self Evident” right here. The other half of today's conversation is Daniel Ash, whose resume also includes a remarkable number of incredible bands, starting with Bauhaus, moving directly into Tones on Tail, and then heading for a long stretch into Love and Rockets, which reunited a couple of years ago for some very welcome shows. Ash's guitar playing over the years has been quietly influential on a ton of players; you can hear his tone in a remarkable swath of bands. Last year, he released the first album by his latest outfit, Ashes & Diamonds. Called Ashes & Diamonds Are Forever, it's unmistakably Ash's voice and tone, though in some flashier dressing on occasion. It's a lot of fun. Check out “Teenage Robots” right here. In this wide-ranging conversation, Ash and Keenan talk about Keenan's wine business—he was nice enough to send Ash some bottles in advance of this chat—as well as touring, making videos, and the seemingly inevitable future of AI. Ash thinks it's going to be good, so even if he's wrong, it's nice to hear some optimism. Ash is also obsessed with motorcycles, leading Keenan to suggest an intervention. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Maynard James Keenan and Daniel Ash for chatting. UAWIL #271: Genesis - A Trick of the Tail

Bullis The camp may be home for several squirrels, but only one called Bushy Tail, shows up regularly and he is into everything. Bushy Tail, a lively, energetic, inquisitive creature of the forest, reclaims the campground as his permanent residence. Nothing is beyond his ability to investigate and report back to Chatter, his mate. The campers all appear to have fun, especially with a character like Bushy Tail around. If there are more squirrels than these two, the others are too shy to be seen in the campsite at the same time as Bushy. A young couple with two small boys are quite challenged to live for six weeks in a conestoga-like, fold-down camper trailer. The campground is located in Florida with a shower and restroom building close to the site. A natural pool is provided for recreation, and Bushy Tail’s antics entertain at least this one camper family. Florence P. Bullis combines a little fiction with a bit of non-fiction in poetic form, from a squirrel’s point of view with humor and excitement, filling the experience with treasured memories worth sharing back home and with future campers. About the Author When her own children had grown and produced children of their own, Florence P. Bullis began gathering the journals of her memories to share with the next generation. Her hope is that in the lives of this electronically connected culture, the joy of experiencing nature is not lost. Florence is now a retired LPN and an author of 5 other books: Including Vision of Two Ships, an auto-biography and Welcome Holy Spirit, a 50 day devotional. From her kitchen window, she often checks on the lively black and brown squirrels, wild turkeys, groundhogs and an occasional deer that appear in her backyard. More episodes of Bushy Tail may be pending.

That's where long-term Treasuries serve as recession insurance and why picking the right time horizon for correlation analysis changes everything. From there, we zoom out to the four-quadrant framework—growth and inflation as the axes that drive correlations. Stocks thrive in positive growth with moderate inflation, Treasuries support you in weak growth and disinflation, and assets like gold and managed futures help when inflation shifts. If passive flows are reshaping markets, the practical antidote isn't a new product; it's a value tilt on the equity side. History shows value, especially small-cap value, is a reliable counterweight when growth-heavy indexes crack. We also share a clear, DIY method to audit and classify your holdings ahead of retirement. Start with growth vs value as your primary lens, use size as a secondary tilt, and treat international exposure as tertiary since currency swings drive much of the variance. Tools like Morningstar and Portfolio Tracker make it easy to roll up accounts, view factor exposure, and keep your targets on track. Finally, we walk through our sample portfolios and a crisp market snapshot—gold's strength, steady REITs and commodities, and how leveraged mixes are faring—to show how these principles play out in real allocations. If this helps you build a stronger plan, follow the show, share it with a friend who's rethinking their hedge, and leave a quick review to help more DIY investors find us.Support the show
